Bookie Beta Phase 1: Recap

From February 1st to 13th, 2018, the Peerplays Blockchain Standards Association (PBSA) oversaw Beta Phase 1 for Bookie, the sports betting exchange built on the Peerplays blockchain. Contributions came from a diverse group of individuals - professional bettors, software developers, affiliate marketers, cryptocurrency & blockchain enthusiasts, and third-party partners of PBSA.

And what a great group! As expected - even exceeding expectations - the beta testers provided solid and detailed feedback.

“We're really impressed with the quality of the feedback during the beta testing. User testing is such an important element of product development and one which we will be returning to in the coming months as the Bookie app progresses,” said Allyson White, QA Lead at PBSA.

When testing began, each beta tester was given 1 Bitcoin to bet with and had their choice of American Football (the Super Bowl!), Soccer (EPL), and Basketball (NBA), depending on the day. Over the course of two weeks, testers were encouraged to place as many bets as possible and to experience as much of the app as they could.

Feedback emails started in almost immediately, and right away we knew Beta Phase 1 was going to be a success in terms of information gathered.

Some key issues raised by beta testers from the feedback:

Settled bets did not immediately show up in My Bets (To specifically monitor event settling, Quality Assurance manually triggered the event resolution mechanism. Resolution delays and the symptoms will not be an issue in the future.)
Some markets remained open long after the game had settled (This is a symptom of the issue above)
Small rounding errors with particular combinations of odds and stake
Installation Issues (We are currently in the process of obtaining Windows and Mac Certification)
Transaction fees not showing in betslip
Data presentation improvement in betslip
Stronger error messaging (We are assessing all of our error messaging to make it as detailed as possible)
Update Rules section (Currently we have placeholder information but our team is finalizing this element)
In some instances, the search function within app produced events that already passed
The color scheme of Bookie could use an upgrade (Duly noted!)

We also collected a ton of fantastic feature requests to build out our post MVP roadmap

CoinLoan Global Tour

On February, 4–6, CoinLoan Team took part in the Blockchain Economic Forum 2108 Singapore as a sponsor and participant of the exhibition. Here’s what we want to share.

It was the Big one! 1100+ blockchain leaders, including 350+ entrepreneurs, 250+ investors and dozens of visionaries as stated by the organizer. Great job, #Latoken, absolutely top notch!

According to The Economist Intelligence Unit, Singapore heads Business Environment Rankings. It’s no wonder that foreign companies choose this city for Asian branch or even for new business activities. We looked forward to meeting many new people and got in the right place!

CoinLoan’s stand has been visited by more than 1000 people. Among them there were potential platform participants, contributors, and business partners.

We were glad to meet one of our contributors from Singapore. That was awesome, we learned more about Singapore and discussed investment prospectives. Finally, CoinLoan found not only funding, but also a long-term partnership.

Max Sapelov had an interview about the project with a Korean crypto blogger.

Mike Rozhko pitched CoinLoan from the stage and presented the progress achieved during the ICO. As a result, we had some fruitful conversations with potential contributors and platform users. We have even received a proposal to buy CoinLoan in its entirety. Sorry, we are not for sale 😄

It was worth to go. Our Team enjoyed meeting so many people from so many different places. We returned with a ton of budding links, biz dev ideas and desire to return (maybe, to establish CoinLoan office in Singapore 😉)

Nearby the Chinese New Year, we have completed the normative definition of two core functions. On the basis of the “neu” version, we shaped the “Tensority” mining algorithm of Bytom, and the algorithm white paper is in the process of being written, including the previous proof logic and a complete explanation. At the same time, we’ve also done a functional verification of smart contracts “Equity” for Bytom and the development guides will be released when the code is open. Bytom is to the last tough moment, although a lot of difficulties, but the future is bright.

What makes a ‘good’ ICO?

As our ICO is progressing, it is fascinating to get feedback from people. Every time you present the project, you are challenged, questions are asked, and it makes you think more and more about your own project; how to improve it and how to anticipate these questions in your next pitch. Online the feedback can be even stronger. Often bolstered by their online anonymity, people don’t hold back with their opinions of ‘what’s good’ and ‘what’s bad’.

Interestingly, the range of potential token buyers is broad; from die-hard crypto nerds (in the positive sense of the word!) that are looking to implement their vision of a better internet and better technology options, to first time, personal or institutional buyers, hoping to make a (quick) financial gain. As a result, the opinions on what is perceived to be a ‘good’ ICO and what is not, vary wildly, and are of course down to each person’s preferences and intentions. Which made me think; ‘what would make a ‘good’ ICO for me?’. Despite having put the materials together for our own project, I had never stepped back and structured it, so it was an interesting exercise. I am certainly no specialist, but this is what I came up with. I would love to read what you think and how you evaluate the projects out there!

The package — Straight of the bat, maybe a controversial one. Call me superficial, but I think the overall package needs to look and feel good. In my eyes, it says a lot about the people you’re dealing with. They are selling; are they aware of that? Do they have eye for detail? If the whole thing is not put together well at this early stage, what can you expect later on? As the saying goes; you’ll never get a second chance to make a first impression!

The proposition — For me the idea is crucial. I love product, I love innovation, but it has to be well explained and illustrated. It has to solve a real-world problem, today, and it HAS to have commercial viability. I’m not a big fan of technology for technology’s sake. Having said that, I love reading through ICOs and see the future potential — where could it go? Especially if there is a route from it being an application now, to some sort of infrastructure play in the future.
