First off please don't tell me that my miners are junk

Sorry, but they are junk Cheesy

You would get at most 0.02$ per day so I recommend to you that sell them if maybe someone who is naive will buy them because they are really worth nothing, not even worth trying  Undecided

Not everything has to be done for profit. The OP is clearly aware that his equipment is obsolete, but he's keen to try anyway.
Long time ago I bought a USB block erupter and did some mining being 100% aware that it's not profitable. Just wanted to see how it works etc, and have no regrets.

@OP - I won't be able to help you, as I haven't mined in a long time. It may be best to post it in the 'mining' section of the forum and state as many details as you can (operating system, have you installed drivers, what's the version of cgminer etc).

Just thinking that is likely that newest versions of cgminer and bfgminer don't support the old block erupters (just my guess tho).
6002  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: noob question: is there an ethiopian exchange? on: December 04, 2014, 12:22:18 PM
hi! is it possible to sell bitcoins in ethiopia? anyone knows if there's an exchange there?
thanks

I've no idea whether there's any exchange, try googling it.

But you can always use localbitcoins:

Yeah I know , but Fj has conducted a previous sig. campaign where the payments were "up-front" or am I wrong ? (I was enrolled in all the FJ sig. campaign).

Yup. Edited my post above before you replied
6004  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: December 04, 2014, 11:49:44 AM

He pays directly in the coin-sweeper  account .... also fortuneJack .

Nothing wrong with that as long as you're able to withdraw without limitations. Had no issues in this matter with FJ.

Edit: But is this their first campaign, or have they done one previously? If it's 1st - they defo should escrow or pay in advance (like FJ did with their 1st camp)
6005  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: December 04, 2014, 11:44:54 AM

Escrow: No

No escrow and lower rates than Fortune Jack

Doesn't seems promising

Haven't they run a campaign previously? If so, there's no real need for an escrow.

Rates are lower than FJ, but FJ is only for seniors and above. And if all spots are taken in FJ camp, then few seniors may go for it.
6006  Economy / Services / Re: Logo Contest for start-up. Pay in Bitcoins on: December 04, 2014, 09:24:00 AM
Hi,
I am having trouble finding some creative minds to make a logo for a non-crypto company I am starting.
<snip>  will pay anywhere between .05-.1 BTC

I'm not surprised you're having trouble finding someone to essentially do it for free Smiley
A good design costs money. Skilled designers don't work for peanuts, why would they ?

You don't necessarily need a skilled/professional designer to do it, anyone can come up with the good logo idea.
Also, what's considered 'peanuts' in US can be pretty worthwhile in some of the poor countries.
6007  Economy / Economics / Re: If Bitcoin were backed by something. on: December 03, 2014, 08:31:21 PM
Bitcoin is backed by the exact same backing as gold. Belief in it's value.
Except gold has very rare physical and chemical properties, while also being scarce...
Gold really does have value by itself, as a resource. Bitcoin does not.

True, but value of those properties is a small % of total gold value. If you take away all the speculative/investment/store of value part, the price would fall to something around 15% of it's current value.

Also, remember that it's use in jewelery is mostly due to it being considered precious and valuable. Afaik pure gold is too soft and brittle to be used as sole material to make rings etc, you have to mix it with other metals.

Helium (gas) got some very unique properties and apparently is very scarce, but it's not considered valuable or precious.

Escrow?

If so, I'm in Smiley

How would the escrow work in this case? You submit your logo, he says he doesn't like it, BTC return to him from escrow, he uses the logo anyways.
Same risk as without an escrow.

Escrow holds money.
I will send the user a copyrighted Logo or whatever.
If he likes it I will send the escrow guy the normal picture without copyright watermarks.
Escrow releases money.
Wink

I know how escrow works. But in this scenario copyright + watermarks are the only protection. Escrow is pointless and doesn't make any difference in this case.

They started to accept BTC in August and raised BTC237 in the first week, which was pretty good result.
6010  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] bitcoin or bitcoins ? on: December 03, 2014, 03:16:33 PM
In English, saying "x bitcoins" for any non-1 decimally-represented value is the correct usage. You could also say "half a bitcoin", "a quarter bitcoin", etc. but for 2, 0.5, 0.1, 0.52423, etc. it's "bitcoins"

That doesn't sound right. I'd always use singular for fractions less than one.

0.4 apple - singular, as it's shorter version of "four tenth of an apple" not apples

Aint nobody carez for your rulez!

6012  Economy / Service Discussion / Advertising with freebitco.in - is it worth it? on: December 03, 2014, 02:34:48 PM
I did some experimenting with freebitco.in new 'Advertise' feature and have mixed feelings.

I created and tested few banner ads, my stats for the best of them are:

Views: 13,703  Clicks: 43  Total cost: BTC0.00904398.

They charge for views not for clicks, so basically I've got:

1 click for every 319 views and cost per click of BTC0.00021

Didn't manage to convert it to profit, but didn't really expect to, since it's a small, experimental run.

I don't have much experience in advertising, so my question is: Are the above results good/poor/average?

What are your opinions on freebitco.in as advertising tool? I like how easy it is to set up and manage a campaign, but I'm bit concerned about the quality of their audience. Since most of them are looking to get tiny amounts from faucet, their not likely to be holding/operating with reasonable amounts of bitcoin, which doesn't really make them 'valuable customers'.

Is it worth it? Are there any better alternatives (working in a similar way)?

No to pieknie.

Ponoc nowo zarejestrowani uzytkownicy maja wydluzony czas oczekiwania na potwierdzenie depozytu (x1.5), moze o to chodzilo.

Zalezy od waluty. Jesli masz "... out of 4" to zapewne 4.

Jesli ci nie przejdzie to pisz do customer support
6015  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Toasters to Mine Bitcoins on: December 03, 2014, 11:39:30 AM
Op are you really interested in mining cryptocurrencies with Toeaster or Freezer? It seems illogical and really waste of potential even if you could make it work. You will be better with one ASIC than dozens of Toasters.

Don't see it work for toasters and freezers, but it could be possible for an electric air heaters. Instead of classic heating mechanism, you could use optimised/integrated ASICs to provide the heat. The only question is power consumption, if it's significantly higher than for classic heater, then it's pointless.
6016  Economy / Economics / Re: If Bitcoin were backed by something. on: December 03, 2014, 11:00:51 AM
But what is gold backed by?

By general consensus that gold is precious and valuable?
6017  Economy / Economics / Re: If Bitcoin were backed by something. on: December 03, 2014, 10:58:25 AM

Backed by something also means the currency is centralized by the backer's ability to honor commitment to redeem the currency for an underlying asset. As far as I know no decentralized mechanism of redemption exists, please someone correct me if I am wrong. What can give Bitcoin and other crypto currencies value is demand for use cases. The more use cases - the higher the demand and the price.

It's probably possible to set a decentralised 'backing' if it relates to other intangible/digital asset.

Yes, backing bitcoin with physical goods would require trust (to the 'backer') but that won't necessarily make bitcoin centralised. Anyone can really back bitcoin with anything. For example, I can publically promise/oblige myself (making formal signed off statement, with all my details etc) to exchange 1 paperclip for 1 bitcoin. Each full bitcoin would be officially backed with one paperclip (as long as I'm alive), but that won't make it centralised. It won't make any difference whatsoever, other than no one could say that "bitcoin has no intrinsic value" anymore.
6018  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin or bitcoins ? on: December 03, 2014, 10:08:56 AM
It's pretty easy: "two bitcoins" plural. The same rule as saying "I've got two coins" not "two coin"
6019  Economy / Gambling / Re: [SafeDICE.com] Low 0.5% Var House Edge - Fast Cashout & Bet - True Provably Fair on: December 02, 2014, 11:59:00 PM
OK, got bit confused here regarding commission/referral payments.

Long story short - is it the same (or similar) system PRCdice have? You take commission on every bet (win or lose) and share a % of that commission with referrer?

As I understand it:

* they take commission on every bet, of 10% of the house edge (and automatically invest it on their own account)
* they pay affiliates 10% of (the house edge or 1%, whichever is smaller) (and automatically invest it in the affiliate's account)

So for regular bets, with a house edge of 1% or less, they give 100% of the commission to the affiliate.

OK, cool. Thanks for replying.

Sounds like good deal for affiliates (maybe except for the fraction-of-satoshi-rounded-to-zero thing). Although, think it'd be better if op was getting his cut of the commission from every bet, creating more sustainable model etc.

@SafeDice, it's a long shot, but do you have any promo banners by any chance? Ideally 468*60px or similar. No worries if not.
