What is this captioning  Huh
Yeah, I'm curious about that as well.  I clicked on the link and can see how you submit it, but I don't get what this is all about.

Edit:

<snip>
Ah, thank you TryNinja.  I haven't really been following that thread and hadn't seen that post.  I appreciate the clarification.
6042  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This Regulatory Filing Could Soon Boost The Bitcoin Market on: November 09, 2019, 05:32:15 AM
While TDAmeritrade's number of users is definitely no joke(11 million as per the article you linked), I really doubt this would "boost the bitcoin market".
Based on bitcoin dropping a few hundred bucks in the past half a day or so, I'd say the news was met with a disinterested "meh" by the market.  Not surprising since TD Ameritrade is one brokerage that (to my knowledge) isn't global.  But hey, I have an account with them for trading stocks and it'll be very interesting indeed to see what comes of this.

I'd love to be able to deposit bitcoin into my account and use it to fund stock trades.  I'm not sure if I'd actually do this, but I'd really like for it to be an option--in fact I'd been thinking about it for a couple of years at least.  Currently there aren't any brokerages that let you do this.

Robinhood lets you invest in bitcoin, but you don't actually own it apparently because you can't withdraw coins, nor can you deposit bitcoin with them.  Hopefully TD Ameritrade makes some progress in this area.
6043  Economy / Economics / Re: Malaysia to Limit Cash Transactions in 2020 on: November 09, 2019, 05:15:35 AM
OP, first two things:  1) Please don't include huge, unnecessary pictures in threads like this.  It's really annoying.  2) You might want to move this to the Economics section, as it seems more relevant to Economics.

This is lousy news for Malaysia, and I'm not sure what the hell their government is thinking by doing this.

Quote
“This is to address the abuse of physical cash used for illicit activities,”

I mean, give me a break.  I know banks in the US have to report withdrawals of greater than $10,000 to the IRS or something like that, but they sure as hell don't limit the amount of cash you can spend.  It's our fucking money, after all.  You can probably tell that this article pissed me off, because I don't think any government should be limiting what people do with their own money, especially not for the reason quoted above.  Such limits are going to do nothing to stop illegal activities, and this might even prompt criminals to adopt bitcoin even more than they already do.

Argh.
6044  Other / Meta / Re: Post Deleted by Mods / by ourselves / By Self-moderated OP on: November 09, 2019, 04:59:20 AM
Since those people whom post are deleted frequently are considered bad posters
That's not strictly true.  I've had quite a few posts deleted over the years, and while some of them might have been bad (probably troll-type posts), some of them I just didn't understand the reason for.  And sometimes you'll get a post deleted if you quote another post that gets deleted.

In any case OP, don't let it bother you.  I haven't checked your post history and don't know if you're a shitposter but if post deletion starts to become a pattern with you, you might want to think about stepping up your constructiveness.  Looks like members here are giving you some feedback which you ought to take to heart.
6045  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Happens If China Bans Bitcoin Mining? on: November 08, 2019, 05:54:23 PM
When china gets their filthy hands on something, they always ruin it. Besides, it doesn't make a lick of sense to waste so much energy. It's ludicrous, egregious, preposterous.
LOL.  I'm not a big fan of China, either, but it mostly has to do with their culture of counterfeiting American goods.  I could care less what they do on their own soil, but that affects our economy and it's built into their way of life.

There was an article floating around here the other day saying that China wasn't going to go through with the mining ban, and I think that's a good thing.  Chinese citizens ought to have the freedom to mine if they want to and the government should just fuck off.

But even if the ban did go through, I would imagine that those Chinese miners would migrate to a country nearby that was friendly to miners.  I can't imagine that they would just give it up.  Can Chinese citizens move freely to other countries?  I know they're a communist country and sometimes they have harsh laws about that.
6046  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Business ideas with 60 Bitcoin? What would you do? on: November 08, 2019, 05:08:09 PM
Don't expect a passive income yet if you are not successful in your business. Having a business doesn't mean you will have a passive income already.
That is most definitely true.  Even people who own established businesses like restaurants and the like still end up having to do work to maintain the business.  It isn't like they just sit back and collect the money.

OP, I think you're thinking about your 60BTC all wrong.  Instead of considering it to be startup money, why not just treat it as an investment in itself?  The only real passive income I've seen in crypto is with staking coins like NEO and some others.  Even mining isn't a passive thing, since you always have to be paying attention to what's going on.  Investing in a gambling site might do the trick provided the site is legitimate, needs stakeholders, and doesn't require you to do much.  I don't know much about things like that but I know people who've invested in online casinos.

Good luck, though.  Passive income is like the holy grail that we'd all like to achieve.  Me included.
6047  Economy / Economics / Re: Gold bubble and Economic situation more what to expect on: November 08, 2019, 04:54:16 PM
As I predicted here the Gold bubble Will pop.
Gold is NOT in a bubble right now.  In fact, gold is existing in the market in the farthest thing from a bubble you could imagine.  It was in a bubble in the years leading up to 2011, but definitely not now.  So I'm not sure what you're thinking here.

safe heaven  Safe HAVEN.  You're welcome.

Gold is the closest thing to a haven as you're likely to find in the investment world, and that's basically because its price isn't very volatile (usually).  And it's supposed to keep pace with inflation, even though I would contest that assertion.  Bitcoin is most definitely not a safe haven asset, and that's precisely because of its volatility.  Sound about right?
6048  Economy / Currency exchange / [H] $75 PayPal [N] btc preev 1:1 on: November 08, 2019, 04:35:46 PM
As stated in the title, I need $75 worth of BTC at preev 1:1. We can use whatever preev is at, at the time we finalize the deal.  Right now that would be 0.0085616438BTC

I will not send first unless you have significant green trust or if I've done business with you before.

This will be a neutral feedback transaction.

Send me a PM if you're willing to help me out, as I might miss seeing this thread if you post here.

Local rule:  Please do not post here unless you're interested in doing this deal.  PayPal is very risky because of the chance of chargebacks, but I have never done this and won't ever.  Also, I won't deal with anyone under Full Member unless they're willing to send first.

Thanks.

Edit:  Deal done, locking thread now.
6049  Economy / Reputation / Re: Farm of 10 Copper Members. on: November 08, 2019, 02:27:18 PM
I believe that someone who has not made a note in the accounts of relatives / friends about their connection and begins to tell "stories" only after the abuse is found should blame himself.
Yeah, but the problem with this is that I don't think any new bounty hunters ever bother to read any threads in Meta, Reputation, or Scam Accusations and don't realize that many bounty hunting "families" have gotten red-trusted because they apparently shared a wallet and were linked to each other through blockchain evidence.  Thus they have no way of knowing beforehand that this might be a possibility and wouldn't even think to tell anyone in advance of their plans.

Not that I think such a warning would be believed anyway.  We've seen so many instances of alt accounts abusing bounties that it sounds like just another far-fetched excuse by members trying to get their tag removed.

I did get a PM from dengineersprof, who gave one reasonable explanation as to why bounty hunters might share a wallet, and I'm not sure why he didn't just post it here.  I'll leave it to him to do that if he wants, because I don't want to quote the PM in public since he might not want me to.
6050  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Moving Towards $9500 Mark on: November 08, 2019, 02:07:04 PM
Uhh....just looked at preev and it would appear that bitcoin is not moving toward $9500 at the moment and in fact it's below $9k.  Dang, I figured if any movement happened it would be in the upward direction.  Maybe this is just a little dip.  I'm hoping it's that.

Bitcoin continued to fall below trying to keep the support levels at $9200 USD
I don't put much faith in those support levels, because I've seen bitcoin break through them often enough to realize that they're just figments of technical analysts' imagination.  Prices can and do fall below them, and quite often.  The whole "support level" thing has just become jargon that gets bandied about and I've learned to tune it out.

On the higher timeframes you can clearly see that we're still in a massive consolidation that I see as a re-accumulation period.
I tend to believe that's the truth, even though I don't believe in chart reading.  My instinct tells me that the last bull run isn't over yet, just stalled out for the moment.
6051  Economy / Economics / Re: 2019 Crypto Hedge Fund report on: November 08, 2019, 12:37:13 PM
It has a number of gems within: there are a 150 active crypto hedge funds. Most have AuM (assets under management) of about $22 million.
Holy crap, that's a lot of crypto hedge funds!  I wasn't even aware that there were any.  On the other hand, it doesn't really take much to start a hedge fund, and I do believe they're less regulated than things like mutual funds because they generally attract high net worth investors who presumably know the risks before they invest.  At least that's what I've read.

$22 million for a hedge fund dealing with crypto isn't a lot of money, at least compared to other hedge funds I've heard of.  They must be pretty small, boutique-type ones.

in 2018 a lot of them invested in ICOs and lost money (though some made money by exiting these early).
Jesus Christ, I would never, ever put money into a fund that was investing in ICOs.  Are they crazy?  And I think I just found my answer to the question I've been asking myself for a long time now: who are the suckers that keep pouring money into ICOs and keep getting scammed time after time.  I can't believe it's actually hedge funds that are doing this.  I bet if they stopped, the whole ICO space would collapse in a heartbeat.
6052  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Sad news - Coinbase is leaking your information on: November 08, 2019, 12:15:09 PM
Quote
I got mine, and I found it shocking: More than 400 pages long, it contained all the messages I’d ever sent to hosts on Airbnb; years of Yelp delivery orders; a log of every time I’d opened the Coinbase app on my iPhone. Many entries included detailed information about the device I used to do these things, including my IP address at the time.
That's frightening, and I didn't know services like this existed.  I'm also wondering whether this was part of the reason Coinbase closed my account suddenly a few years back.  I don't use Airbnb or anything like them, but who knows what data Coinbase has access to and how they use it.  Yet another reason to say "fuck Coinbase!".

Also, fuck those companies like Sift who deal in consumer's information.  That's one of the most shady practices I've ever read about and they're probably more corrupt than all the credit rating agencies combined.  This is scary stuff.
6053  Economy / Speculation / Re: Aren't we headed towards getting a 10k (or maybe higher) shot again? on: November 08, 2019, 11:49:11 AM
<snip>
Maaan, everything you wrote sounds Greek to me because I'm not into TA, but I do think $10k is going to be the next stop once bitcoin can break out of this range its been in.  The market vibe is definitely more bullish right now than bearish, which is a change from only a month or so ago when bitcoin was at $7k.  I'm just not sure how long it's going to take to get to $10k.  Bitcoin tends to stay stuck for long periods of time and it might be in one of those periods at the moment, even though it's been in the $9k range only since Oct. 26th.

We are, I'm optimistic with that, no TA would convince me because this market has never been measured by TA only.
I don't believe in TA myself, but bitcoin sort of lends itself to TA since there's no real way to do fundamental analysis with it.  The only thing traders can do is look at the price chart and hope history repeats itself.
6054  Economy / Reputation / Re: Farm of 10 Copper Members. on: November 08, 2019, 11:29:10 AM
As we speak. My TAN tokens is currently in the hands of my Bangladesh friend Saheeb. He is yet to sell.
What is the advantage of doing that, may I ask?  And I'm genuinely curious about this, because obviously we've all seen this before and besides being the perfect excuse for employing alt accounts to abuse bounties it seems irrational--to me, at least.  I'd like to know why people give control of their tokens or coins to family members/friends.

In any case, I've started giving such members the benefit of the doubt and don't tag them anymore based on this kind of evidence.  That's just me, though.  Part of me believes it's just a lie to cover up abuse in bounties, but part of me just doesn't know.

Oh yeah, I'd like to see that data about this:

More than half the world is poor and many depend on crypto for endsmeet. I can get you stats on this but its not the point anyway.
You can PM me with it if you like.
6055  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [2019-10-06] Leading crypto exchange to freeze US customer accounts on: November 08, 2019, 01:17:09 AM
@Bitcoin_Mafia_Me. Clickbait title. You did not include the part of the article with the good news. Huobi US will be online and continue to serve its American customers hehe.
And we also don't need a giant picture of a generic representation of bitcoin here, either, the kind that's used in every single mainstream media article about it.

I'm sure OP won't be back to this thread, as it's just a dump and run for him and nor do I think he gives a shit about misleading people.  Please correct me if I'm wrong, OP.

Huobi is basically doing what Binance did if I'm not mistaken, because there was another thread about this move a couple of days ago.  They're not freezing any customer accounts that I'm aware of, just restructuring their business to be in compliance with US regulators.  I'm sure most legit exchanges are going to have to do the same thing.
6056  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Selling Bitcoins for Paypal on: November 07, 2019, 07:32:34 PM
Don't bump your thread more than once per 24 hours, as it's against the rules.  I'm not sure if what you did with your last two posts qualifies as breaking the rules, but it sure looks like it.

Are you really asking $11,500 for bitcoin?  Usually people can trade at preev 1:1 in this section, and there are plenty of trusted members who would do so.  Also, if you're going to post in this section, please write out what your terms are instead of linking to another website.  Peace.
6057  Economy / Securities / Re: Vietnamese Exchange BitcoinVN Is Seeking Investors For 12 New Bitcoin ATMs on: November 07, 2019, 07:22:34 PM
KYC process is something that a lot of countries with Bitcoin ATMs require for their users some do it not directly with the ATM itself but from a crypto wallet associated to them, if you don't have it now then expect that you will forcibly have one when the Vietnamese government starts to get more involve with the industry.
That's probably true, though if the government doesn't require it now there's no reason why the bitcoin ATM operator should ask for that information.  Don't do it until it's required, that's my take on it.

This is a great idea, and if I had a spare $5000 laying around I'd probably invest in the project.  I have kind of become a fan of bitcoin ATMs after discovering that there was one in my town (who knew!), even though it was malfunctioning when I tried to use it.  They offer an excellent way of buying bitcoin, even if the fees are generally high.

The only issue I see with this succeeding in Vietnam is the problem of merchants accepting bitcoin.  Tourists were mentioned in the infographic, but bitcoin won't do them much good if they can't spend it, right?  And is it hard to convert foreign currency to whatever the local Vienamese one is?  I don't remember the name of it, my bad.  Tourists generally don't have a problem converting their money when they arrive in the country I would imagine.  But all that aside, good luck with this.
6058  Economy / Speculation / Re: Market Forecast on: November 07, 2019, 06:57:42 PM
It will be good opportunity for one to go for buy
I generally agree with this, because I do think bitcoin is going to hit that $10k mark within a couple of months maybe.  There's always the chance it could go the other way, but I think there are a lot of potential buyers who saw the rise from $7XXX to the current price and feel the bullish vibe in the market.  I sure do.

I guess it is unlikely to penetrate the mark $9300 USD but maybe we can keep up only to $9600 or $9700 for the matter until the year ends
That's probably going to be the case, and I don't really expect a major rally by the end of the year.  I've been pinning my hopes on something major happening in 2020.  In any case, it couldn't be a worse year than 2018, right?
6059  Other / Meta / Re: [CONTEST] Design the 10 years of Bitcointalk commemorative Coldkey ($500+ prize) on: November 07, 2019, 05:42:46 PM
I am just in the mood to edit and this is my entry, it is my first time to join and I hope you like it  Wink

Great job, dude.

And I don't want to be a critic here since I'm not contributing any designs of my own, but most of the ones I've seen don't really have any visible symbols or words on the design that would make it obvious that these are to commemorate bitcointalk.  Shouldn't that be a key element of the design?

By the way, something like this would be absolutely perfect in place of a set of trading cards with the top members on them.  I really like Debonaire217's designs with Mitchell and the rest on them.  Those really have the bitcointalk flavor to them.
6060  Other / Meta / Re: Users that wiped all their posts. Or anohter project for LoyceV on: November 07, 2019, 05:28:27 PM
Don't know if it's possible (though I'm pretty sure LoyceV will prevail), but I'd be interested to see the results.  There would probably be a lot of Newbie accounts that tried to scam and then tried to cover their tracks, but I'd like to see if there are any older members whose names I haven't seen in a long time.  I think there were a couple of them a while back who were deleting most if not all of their posts.

Too bad there's no option on the forum to delete your account.  I'm not sure why that is.
