6081  Economy / Exchanges / Re: coinbase? on: December 10, 2018, 01:21:17 PM
Coinbase recently publish a list of 31 cryptocurrencies that were evaluating for potential listings!

https://coincodex.com/article/2725/coinbase-publishes-list-of-31-cryptocurrencies-it-is-evaluating-for-potential-listing/

Check the URL.

I hope they know what they're doing. Most coins out there are not robust or professional enough to justify listing on a place that wants to be the gold standard.

Imagine if they had 100 million clients and a ton of institutions and all this Bcash shit had kicked off.

Funnily enough the one and only coin that does tick all the boxes, Bitcoin, is the one they hate the most and would prefer to go away.
6082  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-12-10] Still Trending: Bitcoin Subreddit Hits 1 Million Subscribers on: December 10, 2018, 12:48:41 PM
Could the reason for this be that many people subscribed to discuss the latest "dump" or was this just bad timing and it would have happened eventually.  Roll Eyes

Nothing but a slow accumulation. I haven't noticed any spikes on its way there. And of course many will be duplicates or bots.

I don't remember it ever being a paragon of intellectual rigour, but these days it seems more brain dead than ever. It's either memes or wilfully misinterpreted news most of the time.
6083  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Which services do you expect to die during crypto winter? on: December 10, 2018, 12:19:18 PM
Considering that everything has pretty much been mentioned already, I would like to highlight how derivative platforms have a near perfect formula to remain relevant and thriving even during the worst times.

The worst times for them are when absolutely nothing happens. There was a bit of that in the $6000-6500 phase but nothing like as hopeless as the $250 phase.

We're not there yet, but once the ultra dump is done it may sit at a price for what seems like forever. I guess that's when they have to introduce 1,000,000x leverage.
6084  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: A Future Collapse in Bitcoin's Network, Plus $1175 in The Cards! -magicpoop on: December 10, 2018, 01:55:10 AM
The only aspect of mining anyone should care about is how many actual coins miners possess and need to sell. I don't think anyone should be trading based on analysing mining.

Mining was designed to take care of itself. No one else needs to care about it. If the current crop of miners can't hack it they'll leave until some others come along who can hack it.  No one knows their costs, whether they're hedged, who's buying their coins or what their plans are. It doesn't matter.
6085  Economy / Speculation / Re: Underlying BTC problem on: December 10, 2018, 01:17:55 AM
how about this fix.  a wallet that has a built in hedge. it automatically goes short against your balance so you are flat neither long nor short. your dollar equivalent stays the same.

Sounds like a recipe for utter disaster.

The Mycelium wallet does have a service named Coinapult locks in it that allowed you to convert to USD in wallet and then switch back seamlessly. I'm not sure whether it's still going and there've been some complaints about it.

Converting back and forth between USD also creates a tax liability in a few countries. As can shorting too.
6086  Economy / Speculation / Re: SEC delays decision on ETF again on: December 10, 2018, 01:12:38 AM
However, @rickadone has made a good argument on why the delay is more towards the approval of an ETF than a rejection. If the SEC wanted to reject it, would it take them this long to analyze the situation? I reckon, no.

There's no reason for them to speed it up. They have plenty more on their plate with hammering ICOs alone so they may as well take their time. They may also intend to learn a little more too. They've made repeated requests for opinions on the matter, not that it attracted much more than psychos and brain dead moon kids.

And once again this guy is on the money - https://twitter.com/jchervinsky/status/1072216015801585664

It's not looking promising, not that anyone should've expected anything else.
6087  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: KFC Venezuela Accepts Dash Cryptocurrency, Joining Subway and Papa John's on: December 10, 2018, 01:08:09 AM
Not much idea about their technical merits or the murkiness or not of their origins, but Dash certainly know how to put themselves about.

They bribed Kraken to get a listing on there a long time ago, a move that'll have paid off in spades by now. They also managed to get themselves installed as the basis of the Petro, though I don't really think that's anything to be proud of.

I can't see the Venezuelan government allowing an outsider currency free reign but perhaps they've thrown even more money into the right pockets.
6088  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price Manipulation, the impact of Bitcoin SV. on: December 09, 2018, 11:05:36 PM
because it assumes that traders are illiterate and retarded.

Many of them are. I've seen coins with a similar ticker to another coin that received some major news pump as well until it tails off when enough people realise. And most of it these days is bot driven. If one moron starts a run the bots may well pile in.
6089  Economy / Economics / Re: Remember: Bottoms are ALWAYS higher than your idealized entry point on: December 09, 2018, 10:14:50 PM
You're right, the only FUDsters who are doing it to buy low are some hired trolls, aside from that I seriously doubt there are any public figures or Internet personas with that motivation behind their actions. Like, take kwuckduck or other trolls of this forum - what is more likely - that they are just enjoying being trolls, or that they spend their time in order to influence the market? Also, if there's no proof that FUDsters are engaging in trading Bitcoin, then it's just a conspiracy theory.

There absolutely are people here who've been driven batty by buying or selling at the wrong time, but certainly not anyone public.

Loads of people get married to their positions and refuse to believe they're wrong so get left behind with nothing.

One of the people that springs to mind was a poster named Matthecat who got into BTC to buy drugs at $10 and spent all of it. Then he came back and started trading and almost every move he made was the wrong one, plus he got hacked. Almost every single post was a stream of abuse laced with some lucidity. In the end he gave up and left.

I don't buy the professional fudster thing. The pathetic thing is that many people are willing to do it for free out of pure bitterness.
6090  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 09, 2018, 10:08:37 PM
Fuck, that picture is almost as depressing as Bitcoin graphs currently. That guy will grow into a mathafacka hodler for sure.

He might be staring at the bounteous bosoms of the hooker his auntie has laid on for him who has just emerged from his cake. Never judge by one single image.
6091  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Which services do you expect to die during crypto winter? on: December 09, 2018, 10:05:27 PM
there's been a plethora of small, new exchanges launched over the past year---both centralized and hybrid decentralized. i imagine a long term low volume lull will shake a lot of them out of the market. some will be tempted to exit scam, no doubt.

That's a good call. At times like these there's no way I'd be dabbling in anywhere new or marginal. Even the glossiest places might go to the wall, let alone all the shitpits that have sprung up. I hope noobs have enough sense of the utterly wretched history of crypto services. Doubt it though.
6092  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price Manipulation, the impact of Bitcoin SV. on: December 09, 2018, 09:54:21 PM
I completely agree with you. I think that bitcoin getting below such a stable price barrier near $6k at the same time when news about this mad guy appeared cannot be a coincidence.

I think everyone and everything was looking for a direction. Our special friend Craig provided it. Everyone else followed through. If the price had sat at $6500 until it suddenly took off again a couple of years later, that would not have been normal behaviour.

Before this fall many absolute shitcoins were still crazily high. Now we're finally seeing some actual purging.
6093  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-12-08] Crypto, Bitcoin (BTC) Crash Just A “Bump In The Road” on: December 09, 2018, 07:24:26 PM
After Bevan made his comments, other industry insiders also discussed stablecoins, a growing subset of cryptocurrencies that are aimed at more conservative investors — namely, institutions.

Erm, how does the average investor make a fucking bean out of a stablecoin? It just sits there and does nothing. If you find yourself scalping it as it wavers against the dollar then that's a neat sign to get out of it and not look back.
6094  Economy / Speculation / Re: BITCOIN is right now 3300 USD - Etherum 80 USD... Where is the bottom? on: December 09, 2018, 05:19:31 PM
Nope. $32 bubble top, next bubble's ($1160) low was $150.
Now, do you think that $150 is lower than $32?
Rhetorical question.

That used to be the case when people had a heady two bubbles to choose from, 2011 and April 2013.

April was possibly Gox messing around.

I remember people preaching that mantra in 2014. Then it was pissed all over in early 2015.
6095  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am a loser. My only question now is, how do I tell my wife on: December 09, 2018, 03:34:27 PM
If it makes you feel any better, I invested around 170 000$ in a stock market. Quickly after that, it wen't down like 60+ %. I was tempted to sell but I endured and it came back, and now my money is doubled. I did not tell my wife until the money was positive, luckily I had quite the salary and the money i invested was saved, not loaned.

Would you regard that as your money, or you and your wife's money?

If I were married I'd only be making bets with money that was unequivocally my own, and I wouldn't tell her indoors about them either.
6096  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price Manipulation, the impact of Bitcoin SV. on: December 09, 2018, 02:50:14 PM
this is not the first time someone tried to take over bitcoin. it is just a new way of doing it. in the past there has been numerous attacks against bitcoin and there will be  a lot more and as bitcoin grows the number of take over attempts will only increase.

The question of what form future fuckery will take intrigues me.

At some point, hopefully soon, the idea of doing it via another coin will be laughable and indeed it's very disappointing people are dim enough to follow it now.

There'll come a point where attempting the same thing will be like a flea trying to rugby tackle an elephant. It'll simply be ignored completely.
6097  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I got my handmade Swiss Bitcoin watch and it is beautiful! on: December 09, 2018, 02:14:52 PM
Buying a watch has become pointless as #nutildah has said, because everyone already have time on their mobile phones. Paying $9000 for the watch is even more ridiculous. < I guess, it is your money and you can do with it as you want >  Roll Eyes

Then avert your eyes now - https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/8kefgt/rfluffyponyza_wearing_a_884k_watch_at_consensus/?sort=confidence

Only $884,000 for that particular one and it looks like a bit of $20 Iron Man merchandise.

I don't understand the watch thing myself, but I can appreciate the art and effort that goes into them, apart from the one in the link.
6098  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 09, 2018, 12:51:43 PM
Also, did anyone notice Gentlemand is a weirdo?  Not JayJuanGee level weirdo, but more like creepy, Dennis Rader style weirdo.

That's his gimmick.

..or could be the booze.

I'm high on life, baby. I haven't had any boozes in many, many years.

And there's nothing creepy about me. I'm as wholesome as Karen Carpenter (pre laxatives) baking Mom's Apple Pie on Christmas morning surrounded by singing elves.
6099  Economy / Speculation / Re: How likely do you think it is we see triple digits in 2019? on: December 09, 2018, 12:40:47 PM
lets not forget about all the damage that these ups and downs are doing to bitcoin. if you stop looking at bitcoin as a hardcore believed or as some people see it as short term profit making machine then you can see how bad it looks from outside.
we have an invention that was supposed to be a payment system which is going to $20000 then falls down to $3000.... we are all talking about adoption but we are also preventing it by having this kind of volatility.
i will also be here no matter what. but at what cost? i think something seriously needs to be done about manipulation if we want to see bitcoin grow and not just rise in price.

It's a necessary phase, especially for something rising out of nothing. No one knows what it's worth so it stands to reason that the process for settling the value is going to be a rocky and violent road. People on it should make their peace with what they're letting themselves in for. No one's forcing anyone to be here.

The first man through the door is the one to get blasted. Everyone else gets to trample over his ruined corpse.
6100  Economy / Speculation / Re: How likely do you think it is we see triple digits in 2019? on: December 09, 2018, 02:54:45 AM

2015 the altcoin market was still having pumps/dumps and governments hadn't cracked down on exchanges with this fucking kyc bs. In short, back in 2015 the future was still full of the promise of the unkown. and ethereum with it's idea of launching shitcoin icos was growing wings.
There is absolutely no guarantee the crypto market pumps again, and we all know the alternative to that - zero. The only way forward is legit honest to God adoption by the masses, never before has bitcoin been closer to do or die than now.

Agreed about the adoption. Not agree about death. It's looking better than at any other time in terms of what's underlying. And are you ever going to let go of this weird theory about kyc? The next level won't happen without it, or rather won't be permitted to happen.

Once BTC is boring alt pumps will be back. Look at factom recently. That's an echo of the olden days.
