6081  Economy / Speculation / Re: People should use MBITS/mBTC/Millibits already ......... on: December 25, 2016, 12:21:53 AM
Breadwallet default is bits already, wait until blockchain.info and coinbase do the same.
Honestly, in my opinion, making a sidechain with the two way peg to bitcoin at 1:000 one way and 1000X the other, would do the trick.
Let's say, it would be called "coiny", "b-buck", 'bitty" or something else entirely.
you buy a cup of coffee with "coiny" on the sidechain, but you do investments, buy a car, a house, etc on the main chain (bitcoin).

wow, amazing..
people are paying $450 (>0.5 BTC) for these?
good for you...
6083  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: December 24, 2016, 06:19:26 PM
Phil,  How many of your failures were outside of the warranty window?  Are most failures appearing relatively soon so you are covered by the warranty?

okay  first five units  All ordered in june ----- 1 dead board on day 80

sixth unit ordered in august ----------------  2 dead boards and 1 dead controller  all in under 2 weeks

seventh unit  ordered in NOV -----  auto tune still working.

I did everyone with bitmain warranty   so I paid shipping NJ USA to Colorado, USA

My repairs were all free .   My costs were shipping 15 to them 25 back to me  so 4 x 40 = 160

I purchased some fans and 2 spare old firmware boards which are no longer available  cost about 300

So 460-500   spent for repairs maintenance and spare parts.  against 7 units of s9.   Down time  say 1 full month of 1 s9  which is around 250 in coin

so lets say 750 lost for 7 s9's

I won't count the 25-30 extra trips from my house to the solar array  6 mile round trip

I am curious to know why your repairs were free?

That's just Phil's repair "rate", for everyone else it is typically $175+$25 shipping back, plus whatever it actually costs to ship to them.
Maybe $215 or about per board.

LOL, it is not (to my knowledge) 2Pac because of Tupac, but because of shortened 2 chip Compac (or two-Pac or 2Pac), but it rhymes  Grin
6085  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [25+PH] Kano CKPool kano.is 0.9% PPLNS US,DE,SG,JP,NL,NYA on: December 23, 2016, 04:30:33 PM
Thanks for the reply, UG. Well, the PPLNS payout method is one thing I read a lot about and understood (at least I guess I understood). But what I meant, sorry if I didn't described precisely, are the fees when you transfer a certain amount of bitcoins from your wallet to a friend or shop or whatever. Due to the small payouts from Kano I see a lot of small payments received in my wallet that cause a high fee when being transferred. Sure, because the payment size being transferred is huge and the fee (satoshis per kB) is quite high. Small rewards for example = 0.00015 BTC per Block. And to transfer let's say 0.05 BTC will eat up a large amount of the hardly mined coins because of the fees. Did I explain it better as before? Anything I can do to lower the fees?

some specifics to what @kano said...
accumulate btc for 50-100 tx (from the pool) to wallet#1, then transfer all in one go to wallet#2.
you can use just 20 satoshis/byte, so 0.005 btc in fees for 100 tx consolidation or 0.0025 for 50tx
You will have to wait several hours (or until kano gets a block) for confirmation, typically.
6086  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: December 22, 2016, 06:19:16 PM
since they switched to dynamic (real!) pricing, I ordered one today.
obviously, they had this capability yesterday  Angry
we shall see...
6087  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: December 21, 2016, 09:48:34 PM
I have a B10 11.85Th S9 running original firmware (File System Version Mon Jul 11 18:23:27 CST 2016) could I use the "Generate Archive" button to save a copy of the firmware? Has anyone ever used the Generate Archive button?

Im a bit apprehensive to press it without checking here first seeing as I've got all my BTC tided up in it.

no, it does not do anything, really. It will save the file on the desktop, that's it.
You cannot update it back (rollback from another firmware verssion) from that archive, I tried.
Maybe it could update your pool settings if you changed them, etc.
6088  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: December 21, 2016, 09:46:12 PM
I don't think I'm up for buying anything if the exchange rate is $15 or more below what it should be. As bitcoin skyrockets in price bitmain stays put at $808. I don't really need any more miners and I only would be buying one or two more just to fill out space. I think I'm going to boycott these batches until bitmain keeps their price up to date again. If I miss out, oh well. I guarantee you they would be updating the price if it was falling right now.

my thoughts exactly...it basically defeats the whole purpose of bitcoin as a 24hr asset.
nevertheless, people are rah-rah about ordering..I can't speak for others, but I will not order anything until this stops.
6089  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: December 21, 2016, 04:14:14 PM
Just so you know, bitmain's price for btc=$808.21 with REAL price of btc=828.67 (index) or $830 (coinbase).
I cannot support this kind of skulldoggery. what is this, a central committee price?

Well mixed results with the move to 2.0

Had to clock two back to 550Mhz and one has locked up or exploded or something, gotta wait till someone reboots it then catch it before it overheats again.

New firmware seems to run a bit hotter than the original B13 firmware.

Wish there was a way to keep the existing firmware and just copy the miner binary over. hmm.

yep

good luck on restarting
i will not bother with this "upgrayedd" again until... maybe never

6091  Economy / Speculation / Re: Another reason for a sustainable rally on: December 20, 2016, 08:53:42 PM
yeah, the central point is that you get most benefits by just investing in protocol/tokens vs the rest of the internet, where investment in services (Google, Facebook, Amazon) was the most lucrative.
the good news for us is the following: there are no inside deals on buying bitcoin vs at least Google and facebook where they started publicly trading at about 40bil and 116 bil, respectively. Most appreciation percentage wise was, of course, between a few mil and 40-116bil, NOT after they become public.
https://techcrunch.com/2011/01/10/facebook-5/

Peter Thiel invested $500 K and got 3% of the Facebook, which is about $10bil now (he probably sold some or most after the IPO).

Nevada if you don't specify. There is no auto-switching thing, that would create extra latency.

cool, thanks

where does it go if you don't specify anything apart from kano.is-nevada or to closest depending on location?
6094  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin to go up another 100% on: December 20, 2016, 05:38:52 PM
Lets hope on it that this will happen, it can happen but it will not happen fast it need a year or so to do this if you are asking me about it.
Yes and no. Just getting doubled had happened many times in short period of time itself with the bitcoin prices. So getting 100% growth is highly possible to occur in very short period of times like one or two months are more than enough. But for that we need some initial triggers, yes we are all waiting for those triggers.

What could those triggers be that will raise the prices really high?

ETF (COIN, etc), in more immediate time frame. ETF could happen in 2-3 mo or later in 2017.
It will move btc at least 400-500% to $4000-4500 within 2-3 years from it happening.
personally, I would probably put 5% of my retirement fund in such ETF(s) early.
There might even be an arbitrage opportunity if such ETF NAV exceeds 100%, and it will, at least for some time.
6095  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will crash every 3-4 years? on: December 20, 2016, 05:30:39 PM
Difficulty rise, reward halving, mining electricity cost, and profitability decrease may give rise to these situation.

you got it exactly backwards
6096  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [25+PH] Kano CKPool kano.is 0.9% PPLNS US,DE,SG,JP,NL,NYA on: December 20, 2016, 05:40:41 AM
what are you are talking about?
they were reaching 110-114C at some point before I rolled back.
good luck running your equipment at these temperatures.
note to myself: don't buy used equipment from the OP  Roll Eyes

Quote from: TheDamnManual
...The miner with automatic frequency adjustment firmware will stop running when the Temp(Chips) reach to 125 -135 ° C ,there will be a error message “ Fatal Error: Temperature is too high! ” shown in the bottom of kernel log page.
The fans peed must be set above 60% to keep the PCB temperature below 80°C,and chip Temperature below 115°C...

Last I looked, 114 < 115.
That being said, they aren't designed to run in a room with an ambient temp north of 27C.
There's a perverse irony in buying a Lamborghini and deciding that it idles too high while in 2nd gear.  Undecided

this stuff is breaking up at 10-16% frequency by itself (at least earlier batches), so, no siree about 115C constantly, but you go ahead.
it will be instructive (or not).

good luck, it overheated a couple of my miners, so i had to rollback.
You opinion of "overheated" and the manufacture's seem to be 2 different things.  Undecided

Sidehack, the 4TH boards, what will these use from the old hardware? Mounting case and heat sinks?
I'm just wondering if these boards could be mounted easily in any casing, 4U rack maybe, or PC tower with lots of fans etc. How hard heasinks will b to find

Before someone starts quoting this as a source, AFAIK there is no such thing as a 4Th board, but rather a 2Th board (~200W):
