6101  Economy / Economics / Re: How evil is Bitcoin ? on: October 27, 2010, 08:27:31 PM
I'm not a troll,  I've been a part of the bitcoin forums for a while and intend to stick around for a while yet.  I don't check in all that often so don't always respond quickly.

Defending one's fields by having neighbors assist in defending them and paying with vegetables is community action, that is at the heart of Anarchist thought (at least Anarcho Socialist thought) but it does mean that in a certain way the fields belong to all of the neighbors.  Holding a giant compound with security doors meanwhile, I don't know that I can address that properly.  I suppose that so long as you are not using that control to exert power over your neighbors there is really nothing wrong with it.

I hoped and expected you would be okay with those actions. Now if some neighbors don't like vegetables and trade them for something else is that okay? What if you trade the veggies fist and give them what they want directly?
6102  Economy / Marketplace / Re: paypal dropped mtgox on: October 27, 2010, 08:24:03 PM
I just created a LR account.  After withdrawing USD 75, which went very quickly, I got 73.51 on my LR account.  Shouldn't it be 74.25?  Looks like the fee of 1% has been deducted twice?

Apparently mtgox takes 1% and LR takes another 1%? If so, better to have fees on withdraws than on every trade. That way market makers can still keep very tight spreads.

I wonder what the deal is with deposits. Just one 1% from LR?

What a way to draw conclusions about people, and whether true or not if he's gay, what business is it of yours? What a way to greet a new member - confront him about his sexual orientation.

This guy has been discussing Bitcoin on twitter for days. He hosts a talkshow. He's not a bot.

Roll Eyes
Welcome Bruce.

But how do we know a bot isn't running the talkshow?

Sorry, Bruce-bot, we were a little hasty.
6104  Other / Off-topic / Re: Just wanted to Introduce Myself on: October 27, 2010, 05:07:50 PM
Nice Grondilu, I missed all of that. It's pretty early in the morning here, I'll take that as an excuse.

Looks like a real person who has a form letter introduction for self/site/career promotion. I think it means he doesn't really love us, so don't get your hopes up guys.

Oh snap! He even mentions keeping spambots out. It's over, machines win.
6105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in 15 Words for Laymen on: October 27, 2010, 04:56:10 PM
Could someone explain the US dollar in 15 words or less to me?

The dollar is a warehouse receipt for gold. The gold is gone, sorry about that.
6106  Economy / Digital goods / Re: Poker Stars USD for Bitcoin ($.125/BTC) on: October 27, 2010, 04:24:16 PM
Old offer (10/27): I buy Bitcoins with my Poker Stars at a rate of $.125/BTC, up to $1000 for now. $5 minimum.
6107  Other / Off-topic / Re: Just wanted to Introduce Myself on: October 27, 2010, 04:15:26 PM
Hi Bruce, welcome.

This forum is the best place to hear first about new merchants and such. I just set up a google alert for bitcoin too, I had been checking search results frequently, the alert should be more efficient I think.
6108  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcoin Poker Room on: October 27, 2010, 03:54:54 PM
Another question for people out there:

I plan to pay back some percentage of rake paid to top X performers. I thought about setting up public "Top X players" showing their rake profit. There is question - should I show real nicknames or use something like "Player 1", "Player 2" instead hidding who is really top performer. Any thoughts appreciated!

I think we'll have an idea of how much everyone plays anyway since it's a small pool for now. I guess that means show names. I suppose that's a little better transparency wise too, so that we all know that prizes are being paid to real people and not some phantom you invented  Tongue
6109  Economy / Marketplace / Re: paypal dropped mtgox on: October 27, 2010, 11:29:18 AM
Ok I've given up the search and started integrating Liberty Reserve.
You can now add payments with LR.
I'm doing withdrawals manually for now.
ExchangeZone.com seems the best place to buy and sell LR since you can do it with out the crazy commission the other exchangers charge.
Please email me if you have issues.

Be careful. ExchangeZone is rife with scammers.

That's what years of experience can teach.

That and what it costs to maintain inventories and mitigate fraud.

You see, for you guys, bitcoin is a nerdish hobby. People serious about digital currency pay exchange commissions because it's worth it.

Both you and BCM were warned long ago about the risks you were taking. I even warned you both last year that your market data would become skewed from the fraud.

I can't even use Mt Gox data because it's so far out to lunch.

Now look at these numbers. Do you still think it's too expensive to deal with a real exchange company?

Code:
BitcoinMarket
  Pecunix           :      0.0901
  PayPal            :      0.1500
  Liberty Reserve   :      0.1000

Mt Gox
  PayPal            :      0.16

Link2Voip
  Phone credit      :      0.15015

Nanaimo Gold buys   :      0.0901
Nanaimo Gold sells  :      0.1037

That's a great rate.

It seems to me that when I put in the amount of LR I want to trade it should calculate the number of bitcoins I will receive and not a number of dollars. Even on the preview page it has dollars and not the number of bitcoins.
6110  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone willing to buy Mhash/s? / distributed hashing on: October 27, 2010, 10:38:47 AM
Even if difficulty rises even more I'll at least make sure everyone who invested makes a small profit form it.

It looks to me like difficulty will rise soon. How many Mhash were sold in total?

I think we will all make profit compared to buying coins now.
6111  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone willing to buy Mhash/s? / distributed hashing on: October 27, 2010, 09:03:08 AM
approx. 9.92 BTC/(Mhash/s) after two weeks.

Thanks for the update. It looks like we would have been a little better off buying at the beginning that generating, but better off generating than buying at the end.

I guess it is a little more complicated though because if the value and difficulty had decreased we'd do a lot better generating than buying at the start.
6112  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcoin Poker Room on: October 27, 2010, 03:40:43 AM
This is a general question for all gambling sites using bitcoin.
Wont it be good to impose a limit to stop 18 year and under kids from playing.
At least a formal warning and anti addiction messages.

Seriously? You think warnings stop people from doing what they want? Yes, people under 18 are people and choose to do what they want.

Did warnings stop you from watching porn?

Ageism is bigotry. It's been done to us, but we don't have to perpetuate the idea that there is some sub-human cutoff age if we don't want to.

Sorry to derail the thread, I won't discuss it here, but in another thread I'd love to rant for a while.
6113  Economy / Economics / Re: Treasury Draws Negative Yield for First Time During TIPS Sale on: October 27, 2010, 01:26:21 AM
You guys ever listen to peter schiff? He'll tell you all about the coming inflation in the USA.
www.youtube.com/user/schiffreport

He thinks the dollar is going to collapse and he makes a very good case for this.

He'd probably think Bitcoin is awesome too.

Austrian economics is a tight field at the national level, I'd bet dollars to donuts that a great many are already aware of Bitcoin and are either watching it from a quiet distance or have written it off because it's not backed

It's silly to say that Austrian economists insist on backed currency. Backing is something you do to a crappy piece of paper if people won't take it without. Gold is not backed by anything, it IS gold. Bitcoin is not backed by anything it IS bitcoin. The dollar IS paper that used to be backed by gold, now it just IS paper.

The actual thing >>> promises.

I wonder what's about screensize. Was it's easy to play at all? Or you used some sort of zooming?

It seemed easy to me, but I might have just been excited that it worked at all. It was only heads up, so maybe the whole table didn't fit, but it didn't matter. This was over a month ago, I'll try again later today and give a better report.
6115  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcoin Poker Room on: October 26, 2010, 07:21:10 PM
Was it phone or tablet?

phone.
6116  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcoin Poker Room on: October 26, 2010, 07:12:13 PM
Today tested room on iPad - work perfect =) Looking forward to test it on android device.

I played very briefly on my android one night when the power went out. It seemed to work fine.
6117  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: A Heroin Store on: October 26, 2010, 09:27:09 AM
Sending heroin to random people ?

This is insane. If you are caught, you will end up with spending the rest of your life in prison (just imagine that some kids find your package).

I've always said that drugs kill your brain. It seems I'm mostly right in your case. The fact that you seem proud of it says it all.

As a side note, being brand new on this forum, I'm kind of uncomfortable with topics discussing how to use bitcoins to bypass the law. The fact that the law is good or not is debatable but completely unrelated with bitcoin. I really think that, in order to build a good image, bitcoin should not allow public discussing on "how to bypass the law with bitcoin". This is public relation. Just imagine a journalist that hear about Bitcoin and, the first thing it finds is people talking about setting a drug store or laundering money.

This is not about morality. We all have different morality so we have to stick on one common ground. I propose to use laws as this common ground (which are, in this area, essentially the same in most countries).

For example, I believe that talking about porn is fine because it is legit. What if someone talked here about setting up a child porn website ?

So you are worried that if some people (A) discuss doing something that some other people (B) don't like then B will hurt some other people (C) and you want A to change their behavior, not B?

If the admins of this site want people to not talk freely, then I'll talk somewhere else no problem. But the reaction of "Don't talk  about that, you'll get us all in trouble" is terrible imo. Maybe we could discuss ways not to get any of us hurt by violent people instead.

Maybe if more journalists ran into people saying "Violence is wrong" more of them would print revolutionary shit like that.

6119  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Suggestion for dwdollar & other BTC traders: How to fix the SCAM problem on: October 25, 2010, 11:05:56 AM
I see that bitcoinmarket registrations are still closed, so I'm proposing a solution which should fix the paypal, moneybookers & other "soft" currencies scam problem, so the site can be opened immediately:

1. Allow trading in "hard", non-drawbackable currencies (such as Pecunix, LibertyReserve, Wester Union etc.) to everybody.

2. Allow trading in "soft" currencies only for users which are trusted. Trusted means:
a) Are registered for 3 months or longer, or are registered & trusted now
b) Have traded at least X BTC minimum and have perfect trade history without any scams or other problems
c) Have verified their credentials through some mechanism - credit card, mail verify code delivery or personal digital signature.
The solution can be composed of all a) b) and c) or their combinations.

3. Force all Paypal & Moneybookers transfers to wait at least 5 days before they can be finalized. This should solve the stolen credit cards reversal problem.

4. Allow paying with paysafecard and such.

Sounds good to me. I don't see any risk that this would leave.
6120  Economy / Economics / Re: How evil is Bitcoin ? on: October 25, 2010, 08:11:50 AM
Bitcoin is not Anarcho-capitalist its more socialist as its based on the trust system. It's a start to show people that the days of bartering and gift economy can work again and there is no need for centralized banks. This is a start towards abolishing money in all forms towards a more Utopian Anarcho-communist society.

Bitcoin is specifically designed so that users don't have to trust or even know each other so I don't know what you are meaning by that.
