6121  Other / Meta / Re: Is Bitcointalk.org losing user base? on: January 08, 2022, 09:35:53 PM
Jameson Lopp noticed something about Bitcointalk on his 2021 review
I like all the work Jameson Lopp is doing for Bitcoin, but I didn't notice he tweeted about bitcointalk.
It's real question how many of this new registered users are real genuine users, and how many are bots, spammers and trolls.
That number should probably be reduced with number of banned users to get a better picture of stats, including number of active and inactive users.

It might be time to advertise him to give the forum another try after the introduction of the merit system?
Here is one idea for contemplation, why not make one interesting interview with Jameson Lopp, and who better to do the job than our very own BitcoinTalkShow, who just released second episode few days ago.

I have no idea who this is, but his logic has a flaw: the total number of registered users doesn't mean anything.
omg... Have you been living under the rock, or maybe you have been drinking a lot (alcoholic beverages) again? Only around 40% this time  Tongue Cheesy
Type Jameson Lopp in search engine and you will find his website, most famous for stress testing metal backup plates, and collecting Bitcoin resources for years.

6122  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Rikafip na Youtube on: January 08, 2022, 09:25:48 PM
Čestitam Rikafip još jednom, a drugi BitcoinTalkShow možete pogledati ako do sada niste, a neću otkrivati nagradu jer morate pogledati video i staviti like i comment:

6123  Other / Meta / Re: [NEW EPISODE] TheBitcoinTalkShow - Second episode is here! on: January 08, 2022, 09:16:18 PM
What? Second episode you say?
Second Episode is even better than first one, and I honestly expected to see something like this after watching first teaser video with t-shirts and cool packaging.
It's obvious that you made this video earlier in 2021 so you had to make small corrections later  Wink

I have one suggestion for everyone who wants to keep more privacy but still receive their unique reward, just use alternative address, PO boxes or some other mail & package forwarding service.
Congrats to all happy winners (again). Smiley
6124  Economy / Exchanges / Re: What's the best exchange after Binance? on: January 06, 2022, 07:10:34 PM
I am on Binance but I want to buy some coins that they don't have. Later, I might consider to do also trading on that particular exchange.
So, is there any top5 of exchanges based on available coins, trading volume, fees, other criteria? As I'm on Binance, KYC is not a concern.
KYC is a big concern, especially if you spread it among multiple centralized exchanges because you are increasing chances for your data to be exposed with some future hack or leak.
Best alternative for Binance is decentralized exchanges like Bisq for example, you can use it without any verification and you will own the keys of coins you use for trading there.
6125  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Internet is down on Kazahstan, Bitcoin Hashrate drooped, Price affected? on: January 06, 2022, 12:04:57 PM
An Internet connection from Kazahstan was shut down and it could be possible because of protest from the gas price.
Many miners from moved from China to Kazahstan but they are now faced with internet shutdown issues and I suspect that government will increase price of electricity very soon.
This could be just one of many reasons for Bitcoin price correction, stocks are also down with other markets and economy worldwide is shaky and holding on glass legs.
There is also news about congressional subcommittee preparing oversight hearing environmental impact on on Bitcoin mining...
Better prepare and hold on for one bumpy ride in next few months and not only for Bitcoin hashrate/price.
6126  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Show off your hardware wallet on: January 06, 2022, 11:39:06 AM
I was surprised that it's so easy to replace the screen yourself. You basically just pull out the connector for the old one and replace it with the new one you bought for a few bucks.
It's easy if you know how to handle electronics, and I would suggest ordering several reserve displays just in case yours go dim or totally dark.
You can always sell them locally for multiple times higher price, or start your own ledger repair shop if you want Cheesy

It's quite a big difference. Are you absolutely and 100% certain that particular brand will work with a Ledger Nano S?
I am 99% sure because I didn't order from that link and I didn't test this myself, but it was confirmed by other people.
Model number is exactly the same and even ledger is ordering them from China/Asia.

I agree that your assumption on display of Ledger nano was completely wrong. You said it is LCD type display  while officials   says it is  OLED one.
I am old generation and I almost never use word OLED... out of old habit I mostly refer to all screens as LCD screens. I know they are not the same.
Counting alleged 46,000 to 230,000 hours that is around 1,916.6 year or 9,583.3 years for ledger display to work fine, and meanwhile we have hundreds or thousands of people reporting issue with their display.
Someone must be lying here, if you know what I mean Smiley

Ledger display problems youtube proof examples:

This ledger oled screen also have some vulnerabilities reported back in 2019 and I think they still exist, but ledger claims they are non-critical and they implemented some countermeasures.

6127  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Seed Generation in Hardware Wallets on: January 06, 2022, 11:22:40 AM
In short, they seem definitely much better than human beings at generating randomness (the degree of disorder is higher).
This is not exactly correct, even if it's true that humans and their brains are generally bad for creating randomness, using simple tools like dices and cards, changes the game a lot.
I would dare to say that you can create better and safer random results with dices, following simple instruction than using most hardware wallets for this.
Coldcard and Keystone are only wallets that have Verifiable Seed Generation as far as I know (Passport is working on this also).

After rereading your post I noticed that you are mixing up "entropy" and "mnemonic" or rather use them interchangeably, which is not quite correct because they are not the same thing especially when we are talking about the generation of random numbers. Mnemonic words aren't random at all because they are mathematically and deterministically derived from entropy.
I used official websites as source of information and I only mentioned word mnemonic one time for (ledger wallet) in first post, so I didn't mix anything.
Order of mnemonic words can be random or not random, but that was not the point at all.
6128  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Airbnb To Implement Crypto Payments on: January 06, 2022, 11:02:48 AM
Back on Monday, Chesky (Airbnb’s CEO Brian Chesky) asked its users what Airbnb should launch for 2022. He received 4000 submissions from users.
He received 4000 submissions from users.
This tweet smells like some testing ground to announce their own airbnb token, but I thought that airbnb was accepting Bitcoin and other cryptos for year, but this was their rival called Travala.
It's possible to pay to airbnb with crypto even now, but you need to use alternative options like Bitrefill, Fold App and gift cards, but there are some limitations.
Maybe airbnb wants to take over Travala crypto market share, and make some profit from their new token in future, but overall this is a good news for Bitcoin adoption.

I don't agree with that and I think bitcoin is fast and cheap enough for air bnb payments.
One thing is sure, Bitcoin transaction fees are much cheaper than for unsustainable ethereum, and most of the time you can send any amount and pay $0.06 or 1 sat/vB just like now.
With high priority that would be 5 sat/vB or $0.30, and you can't even compare that with eth and all other shittokens.

6129  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: phishing on: January 06, 2022, 10:51:30 AM
Exact same spinbot phishing thing happened to shasan few days ago, but he received message from different member.
It is possible this accounts are all hacked and/or part of some bigger farm, so I a sending them New Year red feedback gifts.

What happened:: Sent me a Suspicious Link

6130  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Sent me a Suspicious Link on: January 06, 2022, 10:40:08 AM
It is a great news that pinoyiloco has been auto-banned. So, pinoyiloco wont be able to post/send pmto anyone.
I also noticed this when I checked his profile few days ago, but I am sure he is not worried so much because this is not his only account in forum.

I believe the scammer behind this is preparing for a bigger and more sophisticated scam and is targeting mainly users who are active in the Collectibles board.
This phishing scams exist for years in forum, maybe they are using some farmed accounts and bots to send personal messages, but they can send them to anyone.
Collectibles board is just a small part of the forum and not everyone is active there, so best protection is not clicking on any link you receive from other members.
I did a little search for term spinbot and it's some kind of text rewriting, article spinning tool.
6131  Other / Meta / Re: Ban request for user: franky1 on: January 06, 2022, 10:27:15 AM
Most of us know this member for trolling and posting negative comments but that is a part of forum, and I don't want bitcointalk to become eco chamber without any criticism.
I believe that franky already have some limitations on his account and I think that is enough for now, there is not a single valid reason to ban him,
especially when I remember recent case when one moderator temp-banned Nutlidah and chase him away, probably forever.  Tongue
BlackHatCoiner, if you have some personal problem with franky than just click magical ignore button and his posts won't bother you ever again.
6132  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Entropy 2 of 3 MultiSig wallet question on: January 05, 2022, 06:26:52 PM
Yes it's the same in theory, I don't know how or how well the other devices do it. They *should* all work the same but as we all know should is not the same as do...
It would be a good idea to ask Trezor/Keystone developers if their Shamir Secret is compatible with Mycelium Entropy or not.
Reason is that you have backup alternative option in case you lose Mycelium Entropy device, as I don't know what happens if you lose your device.

It looks like Mycellium also had an interesting blockchain based card payment device and I never got a change of testing it and seeing how it works.
Instead of using cryptocurrencies Mycelium card used some pegged digital tokens for payments.
This could be a nice collectibles item now.

6133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitmex is sending a physical bitcoin to the moon in summer of 2022 on: January 05, 2022, 06:12:06 PM
This looks like some cheap sci-fi movie...sending physical bitcoin to moon is waste of resources and sound almost as stupid as Elon Musk sending a car in space Roll Eyes
Official version claims that last man on moon was walking in 1972 and 50 years later in 2022 Bitmex plans to send Bitcoin there, makes you wonder what stopped them from repeating moonwalk for so long.
Real question is how much Bitmex paid for this lame commercial  Wink
6134  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Andreas Antonopoulos says to stop using paper wallets, do you agree? on: January 05, 2022, 06:04:40 PM
I was about to say: whether paper or hardware - you're always gonna have a paper or steel backup anyway; so hiding / protecting a seed always needs to be done, no matter which method you use.
This is true, but you would be surprised how many (dumb) people don't have backup phrase on paper, and they ae only depending on hardware wallet device to keep everything. Cheesy
Difference is that you are writing backup yourself with your own hand or metal tools, and for paper wallet printer is doing all the work.

Actually, one scenario comes to mind where the person has a backed-up hardware wallet without ever writing it on paper / exposing it to potential spy cameras or anything like that. That's with a device like the Foundation Passport. It allows you to insert a microSD card, back the device up to the card and even do it to multiple cards.
Physical backup on paper/metal is almost always better than any using digital backup like microSD cards even if they are encrypted, but it's not a bad idea to have multiple options in case one of them fails.
I think that Coldcard and Bitbox02 hardware wallets are doing something similar like Passport with SD card backup.

The idea about SeedSigner is not mainly for creating paper wallets (in my opinion) but allowing you to also sign transactions (hence the name) while keeping the wallet / seed itself actually offline. It has a camera which can temporarily import the seed through QR code into RAM so it's wiped when power is plugged.
Seedsigner is a nice idea, but problem is that Raspberry Pi Zero and all components for making is hard to find know because of supply chain issue, or it's more expensive to buy.

thing is, those old school private key paper "wallets" still work. exactly as they did 10 years ago, and will 10 years from now. nothing fancy.. just works
Yeah, just like riding a horse and driving first automobiles from 1900 still works and it's nothing fancy also  Cheesy

6136  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Show off your hardware wallet on: January 05, 2022, 05:29:36 PM
Ledger nano s has green OLED film  display but not LCD one. The lifetime of green OLED emitters is ranging from 46,000 to 230,000 hours so there is no need to worry about  its state if it is powered on a couple of hours per day. The most dangerous for this type of display is a water. That is why you need to do all you can to prevent water (condensate including) from coming inside the plastic case of Ledger nano (both s and X).
This is totally wrong assumptions, it is well known fact that display is weak spot for this devices, and you can find countless reports from people who complained about their screen going dim or totally stopped working.
I know exactly what cheap display model Ledger Nano S is using and you can purchase it for few bucks online, when it stops working after few years of normal usage (Not talking about device constantly connected to computer).
There are several video instructions for replacing display yourself, or you can use smartphone camera to mitigate this issue.
If you want to check my claims just type phrase ledger nano s display problem in browser search or youtube, and you will see clear results.
In addition to this, keeping your device non-stop connected to your computer can be a security risk.

Just for comparison, I don't know a single case of oldest hardware wallet Trezor One with bad or faulty display going dim.
That doesn't mean it's can't happen like for any other devices, but that is not something happening in mass scale.
6137  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Entropy 2 of 3 MultiSig wallet question on: January 05, 2022, 05:13:59 PM
Or, you could ask the person who you bought it from. They are a really nice guy who can help. :-)
Are you saying that you are actually selling this devices, or I understood something incorrectly and some other person is selling them?

It's not regular Multisig it's Shamir’s Shared Secret.
Is this the same Shamir’s Shared Secret like we can see in hardware wallets Trezor model T or Keystone?
I never tried creating one of this schemes, and I think it has more flaws compared to multisig setup, including single point of failure.
It is probably still better than using regular singlesig without passphrase .

You don't have to run the site while connected to the internet.
You can go to it and once it's loaded go offline
It's something similar like with paper wallets websites... most people are using them while connected to the internet  Cheesy
6138  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Do all Native Segwit addresses begin with bc1q? on: January 05, 2022, 05:04:05 PM
and here is the funny..
taproot was promoted that "no one will be able to distinguish if its a standard transaction or a taproot transaction.."
um.. the 'q' and 'p' kind of give it away
There is nothing funny about that, and you came up with your own twisted conclusion about that.
Now you can't really distinguish if address is used for single or for multisig setup, and in due time more people will use Taproot address, just like most people today use bc1 segwit addresses.
It helps if you actually read how Taproot works directly even if you are not a tech expert, instead of reading random tweets and videos from some trolls.
My conclusion is that Taproot is not a magic stick that fixes everything, but it has some nice benefits and adoption is slowly growing if we look at the stats.

6139  Other / Meta / Re: Advertising and shilling on Bitcointalk on: January 05, 2022, 03:41:18 PM
The conclusion is that Bitcointalk is a place that remains relevant for some crypto news sites. They don’t mind discussing and even paying someone for advertisement/shill campaigns. So, the next time you see a specific member or a group of people shilling a particular brand or 3rd-party website aggressively, it is quite possible that they are paid for it.
Bitcointalk sure is relevant nowadays, and anyone who is active in forum can see that.
Advertisment Round 347 auction was posted few days ago in forum by theymos, and anyone can participate including news agencies.
Maybe someone remembers that guy from China who came with his big dao farm few months ago, after he was busted by Ratimov Smiley

I honestly expected greater interest in my fake services when I started this experiment.
It's no surprise to me because you sent them emails around holiday time and new year, so give them some time and you will receive more replies from others.
Once they post public email address it constantly gets filled with mix of genuine emails and spam from Nigerian prince(s).

Što se radi u tome točno?
Mi pišemo postove, eto to radimo.
