I honestly don't believe in deleting posts without leaving their duplicate/copies behind.
Most posts that get deleted deserve to get deleted. Take a look at Modlog, the latest user who got Nuked was Dr.Exchanger. He posted malware. There's no need to preserve that.

No it's not. Deleting useless data makes the remaining data easier to find.
6122  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: November 17, 2022, 03:07:56 PM
Another idea would be the weight of votes. In other words, the vote of a Legendary was worth more than a Member.
A bit of what happens in the voting of sports associations, that those who have been a member for the longest time are entitled to more votes than new members.
If you're going to adjust voting power, why not give each vote the power of the log of the earned Merits? You've earned 1096 Merits, so your voting power is 3.0398. O_e_l_e_o earned 12992 Merits, so his voting power is 4.1137. A user with the minimum of 50 earned Merits, gets voting power 1.6990. This way, the increase in voting power is only very small so votes from newer members don't become worthless.

Just curious where the "wasabi is working with chain analysis" is coming from?
Read Wasabi blacklisting update.
6124  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: [Contest][ALT] Best portfolio 2022 on: November 16, 2022, 07:18:48 PM
for 2023 I was thinking of some adjustments :

- +1000/-1000$ would become +100/-100$.
That's probably better Smiley And how cool would it be if that 100$ is only a tiny fraction of the total amounts next year?

Quote
- And I will only allow one stable coin (sorry LoyceV, you'll have to get your hands dirty and dig into the depths of the shitcoin rankings Smiley).
I'll argue some of them aren't that stable Tongue Or maybe I can find a coin that shorts other coins Cheesy

I wonder if Gold or a stable coin pegged to Gold price would have beat your pick?
Nope, the gold price is (still) lower than it was at the start of the year.

Thanks again for your flawless timing Smiley My timing is, well, let's say it sucks.

6126  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How do i make sure my Bitcoin Private Key is Random and secure? on: November 16, 2022, 07:04:00 PM
See basically a private key is an integer between 1 and 2^256 converted to hex right. So what's stopping Random number generator to pick a private key from say first few million integers??
What's stopping the random number generator from doing that, is chance probability. What you're suggesting has a chance of 1 in (give or take) 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 to happen. It's not going to happen, don't worry about it.
6127  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Unconfirmed transaction is not even visible on block explorers on: November 16, 2022, 06:58:40 PM
Currenly, my Bitcoin Core uses 267 MB. As far as I know, most nodes limit their mempool to 300 MB, after which they start dropping the transactions with the lowest fee. My guess is that's what happened, and if that's the case, all your wallet has to do is keep broadcasting the transaction so that it will show up when mempool clears.

So maybe this is a Guarda bug or something?
I know nothing about that wallet, so I have no idea how it broadcasts transactions.
6128  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Keyspace and Bitcoin Addresses on: November 16, 2022, 03:29:43 PM
is there a ways to get a list with btc addresses and public keys ?
I did this, see Get pubkeys out of Bitcoin block data, but haven't updated it since April. Start reading from that post, and you'll see I got stuck a bit later.
If you want my help continuing this, post in that topic.
6129  Other / Meta / Re: Monthly Report Statistics on: November 16, 2022, 12:07:21 PM
What makes a report go as unhandled status and why is it not later handled?
My interpretation is that a Mod isn't sure ("not great, not terrible"). My most recent example: this post has been "unhandled" for 2 days. I assume each Mod doesn't want to remove it because they're not sure that's justified, but they also don't want to mark it as Bad, so other Mods can also have a look at it.
The obvious reports usually don't stay "unhandled" for long.
6130  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Forget about exchanger search! Use BestChange! on: November 16, 2022, 11:58:18 AM
What will happen if result of AML check result used by individual and the exchange/BestChange is different?
That's the problem: there is no official AML check that's valid in all jurisdictions, but there are companies trying to sell their interpretation of which addresses are good or bad. Those companies now have a financial interest in convincing people "taint" exists, in order to sell their "services".
6131  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: [Contest][ALT] Best portfolio 2022 on: November 16, 2022, 11:09:06 AM
Whoever bets on the best performing altcoin at the end of 2022 will receive a 1000$ bonus on the value of his final portfolio.
I thought I could at best be #2 because of this, but I'm starting to think I may have the "best performing altcoin" in my selection Shocked I'm disappointed though, I wanted to lose this one, and I wanted Bitcoin to above all others.

Quote
Whoever bets on the lowest performing altcoin at the end of 2022 will receive a 1000$ penalty on the value of his final portfolio.
So DarkStar_ will be at -$1000 Cheesy

I'm quoting it here from another topic
Sorry for being off-topic in my own topic. My intention was to post this here, but I failed. Since PowerGlove responded here, I'll reply once more:

you can take that exclusion to mean: "Treating the sun as a point".
That's my point: it's okay to ignore small influences, but this simplification completely changes reality.

Quote
It's a shown-work argument to help the OP (in that thread) understand why their intuition was faulty (that the shadow would get appreciably bigger as the tarp was lifted)
OP wanted to reduce heat input. The interesting part is that none of our discussion matters for that: the tarp will absorb a certain amount of sunlight, and that sunlight won't reach earth. It doesn't really matter if it's a sharp shadow or slightly less sunlight on a very large surface, the result is the same: less heat input.
6133  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Forget about exchanger search! Use BestChange! on: November 16, 2022, 08:43:19 AM
because “dirty” coins were transferred from your side and there is no exchanger’s fault.
That's a bunch of BS! There are no dirty Bitcoins, all Bitcoins are equal. You should really stop promoting this attack on Bitcoin by pretending it's normal. It's not.

Quote
The exchanger has no access to your funds.
Meaning: the exchanger doesn't own any funds and just uses a third party.

Quote
To avoid such situations we highly recommend to make self AML checking before an exchange using existing AML-check services.
I highly recommend to avoid any service that uses arbitrary reasons to block your funds.
6134  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Updated] FTX on: November 15, 2022, 05:27:25 PM
As utterly stupid as this meme-coin-based-on-a-meme-coin is, if customers are depositing it then the exchange should be holding it.
It's one thing to support depositing and withdrawing of some shitcoins, but it's totally different level to keep this trash coins in your reserves.
I would imagine that reserves for any serious crypto company should be mostly in Bitcoin, some in stable coins and maybe few biggest shitcoins.
O_e_l_e_o is right: if someone has shitcoins in their exchange account, the exchange should have those shitcoins. Let's say they didn't have Doge, and Doge went up 100-fold. They'd be insolvent if that happens, and it's not something they should risk.

Quote
Analogy for shiba inu shitcoin reserves would be like if banks would keep bananas in their safe deposit reserves, instead of gold and silver.
If a customer puts bananas in their safe deposit box, the bank should keep the bananas. They shouldn't speculate on bananas becoming cheaper later on, so they can turn a profit by selling the bananas and holding gold instead.
6135  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Keyspace and Bitcoin Addresses on: November 15, 2022, 05:22:49 PM
is there a way to get the public key from a specified bitcoin address ?
Only if it sent a transaction. Or signed a message. Or (of course) if you have the private key.

Quote
lets say i have a list from few bitcoin addresses, how can i get the public key
If that's all you have, you can't get the public key.
6136  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Nov 2022] Mempool empty! Use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs! on: November 15, 2022, 01:56:53 PM
Someone dumped 150 vMB into the mempool. So far, it's not really getting less, so 1 sat/vbyte confirmations may very well be gone until (after) the weekend.

6137  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Keyspace and Bitcoin Addresses on: November 15, 2022, 11:03:25 AM
can we see somehow which address is in which keyspace ?
No.

Quote
Why have some Bitcoin adresse the same start characters ?
Because there are more than 58 different Bitcoin addresses Wink Someone probably used vanitygen to create them.

Quote
are these address in in the keyspace from 2^63 till 2^64-1
You need the private key to answer that.
6138  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How can you verify the randomness that's coming from a hardware? on: November 15, 2022, 09:28:24 AM
Get one, write down a B or a W, eat it, get the next one. Repeat until nauseous. It's much faster than flipping a coin, and less boring Cheesy
But of course there probably isn't an even number of blacks and whites in the bag, and with each one you eat you reduce the odds of that color appearing again. So overall a bad system. Wink
When in doubt, you could of course apply the system where BW means B, WB means W, and BB or WW means ignore, but that means you'll have to eat at least 3 times more candy.

You should also put the candies back into the bag
Absolutely Barbaric
6139  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin core randomly turns off on: November 15, 2022, 09:10:21 AM
it randomly closes No error or anything
So it crashes? Chances are part of your hardware is failing. Bitcoin Core gives this warning when you first run it:
Quote
This initial synchronisation is very demanding, and may expose hardware problems with your computer that had previously gone unnoticed.
I'd say start testing your hardware. Your CPU's TDP is 84W. It may be overheating, or your power supply might be unstable. Or your memory or SSD might be bad. I'd start with the CPU temperature though.
6140  Economy / Reputation / Re: [self-moderated] Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source on: November 15, 2022, 09:03:20 AM
PowerGlove asked me to explain this post, so I'm quoting it here from another topic:
your post is wrong Tongue So I've Merited decodx and odolvlobo.
Hah! Really? If you can spot a mistake then please PM me about it (or maybe post in that thread) and I'll fix it!
I gave a hint already by saying who I Merited. I'll use this part to explain:
Even if you placed the tarp as far away as the moon (about 1.3 billion feet) the shadow would still be ~10.027 feet (i.e. the shadow would only be bigger by about 1/3 of an inch).
Imagine looking at the sun, and 400,000 km (I don't do "feet") away, right between you and the sun, is a tiny tarp. That doesn't put you in the shadow of the tarp, because the sun (from where you're standing) looks much bigger than the tarp. The light passes the tarp from all sides, so there is no shadow.

This picture explains it:
Image loading...
If the tarp is low, the "total eclipse" is what we know as a shadow. If the tarp is high, there's only a "partial eclipse", and if it's high enough, you won't even notice that at all (because if blocks only a tiny fraction of the light, and the "partial eclipse" covers a very large surface area on earth.
