6141  Other / Meta / Re: Is a campaign manager responsible for preventing low quality posting? on: May 16, 2018, 10:11:25 AM
You would think that people getting paid to post would at least take some time in their replies and make a thoughtful post. But, it's just too easy. The criteria is way too low, and I do understand that the more people, and more posts the better advertising. But, if it were me who brought out something worth advertising I would want to best quality posters rather than hiring a bunch of Jr Members who have only ever posted in off topic and spam megathreads.

Probably I'm just too naive to assume that 10 posts are easy for everyone with limited English and limited understanding about bitcoin. I found that many generic threads, such as: bitcoin price, altcoin price, my portfolio, etc. are the culprits. Maybe campaign managers should look at this issue.

Seeing the stuff that gets advertised here - they probably want the opposite. It's the same reason why Nigerian scam e-mails are written in horribly broken English. Someone dumb enough to fall for such e-mails is a perfect mark. Someone dumb enough to click on some shitcoining ICO ad under an incomprehensible Google-translated word salad is a perfect "investor" for said ICO.

I wouldn't mind if theymos strong-armed the campaign managers into some sort of responsibility. Probably not gonna happen though.

Indeed, campaign managers should be punished for promoting scam ICOs. I still remember Benebit was promoted in this forum. I have this hunch that maybe seniors here already designed new rules, we're just not being informed yet.
6142  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I got merits, lots of them - do you want some?? on: May 16, 2018, 12:12:40 AM
I disagree with most things you said. You want to say if we post only quality English we will get merit? No. Because I do post quality English but no one merit me. Are you saying also if one be polite for calling somebody sir will prevent him from getting merit ? another NO.

I've just fix the typo, it's not a valid argument if you guys bring up this minor issue.

For a record, listen. A lot of  Senior members to even Hero members like even you got the opportunity to be rank up all because you have be here long, and I bet you ,if most senior members were subjected to merit system in those days, they wouldn't be at where they are because majority post SHIT.

This is also true, but it's their privilege of being early adopters. It's like saying the bitcoin HODL-er wouldn't be at where they are because majority cannot afford BTC price now or cannot mine with PC anymore. It's just how real world works, cmon man!

Merit is not really important, guys. If you wanna get some pennies from bounty campaign, you might be better off doing other than signature campaign. Do not put too much pressure on yourself. TMAN's guide essentially is the "Posting 101" but whether you will get merit or not, it's still mystery that can only be solved when stars aligned.
6143  Other / Meta / Re: Must Acrivity and Merit fall over time? on: May 15, 2018, 04:52:27 PM
They've earned their rank because of "early adopters." It may seems unfair but this is how things work in real life. I never bitching about merit since I know it's their privilege, and if you don't like you can create your own forum. You can fork from block x or create genesis from block 0.. ooopss
6144  Other / Meta / Re: Is a campaign manager responsible for preventing low quality posting? on: May 15, 2018, 04:38:34 PM
For 10 posts a week (or less), I don't find it significantly impact junk post because we will get 10 posts anyway except really busy IRL. The real danger is when the campaign demand more posts and/or stakes based on post counts.

Notice that not all the people wearing a signature is a shitposter, as well as not all the people without any signature is a good poster.

This!
6145  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC's intrinsic value in history on: May 15, 2018, 04:20:55 PM
Is this your article https://medium.com/@kongyang217/value-btc-from-a-historic-view-fb389b77deb8 ?
If yes then I have no problem Grin
Anyway, I just have a concern about BTC being opensource. It means that anyone can create "another" BTC.
6146  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto currency in a card? on: May 15, 2018, 07:51:33 AM
applepay or any other mobile based payment would still require a credit card before you can use it. therfore those are still useless. what we really need is a single payment method just like what we have on cryptos . Cryptocurrency in a card is i think possible and i think itll work just like a credit card but of course it will still requires an internet connection in order for transaction to be processe via blockchain.
Yet this is still pretty useful if you are a person that always on the go, whether you shop or dine , you can just always swipe your crypto card elsewhere and there no need for you to open up your phone or any other apps/wallet in order to pay or withdraw your crypto coins.

Yeah that's make sense, but without apps, how can user sign the transaction? If privkey embedded into the card then it's really not secure. User still need apps to sign the transaction internally and only transmit hashed messages/transactions.
6147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain can help banks on: May 15, 2018, 06:50:42 AM
Another indication that banks can use blockchain as an ally, instead of seeing as a competition.

Don't you know what's inside bitcoin genesis block?

6148  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto currency in a card? on: May 15, 2018, 06:46:45 AM
I think card is obsolete, nowaday you can pay with applepay or other mobile based payment apps.
So in the future I believe that apps would be the better solution and is being developed by many startups
6149  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Day trading VS long-term hodling on: May 12, 2018, 04:51:17 AM
None is good for cryptocurrency, the mentality should be use it as currency i.e. spend and replace. Long term hodling and day trading don't give any value to the network. With this mentality there won't be cryptocurrency in the future, but cryptoscam.
6150  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's your attitude to this? on: May 12, 2018, 03:31:17 AM
You should notice that this is bitcointalk forum, not altcointalk, so it's understandable that there is a huge group of people who are Bitcoin maximalist. However, Bitcoin dominance is now <40%, it means that altcoin is growing. I think of currency is like language or culture, there can't be only one currency in this world. Also, at least two of major altcoins exist because of Bitcoin dev failure to moderate (or incorporate) them. Yes, I'm talking about Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash. As long as this attitude keep happening, there will be another new major altcoin arise.
6151  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How/Why to trust Anonymous Developers and code? on: May 11, 2018, 04:29:44 AM
If the blockchain a currency or token is on is only as strong as it's developers, then what is the best way to really find out how to trust it before investing? Especially if the developers are anonymous?

You need to have some knowledge about blockchain programming and start to dig into their GitHub repository. Anon or not are not really important if you can review the code. Even when the devs are popular, you shouldn't blindly trust them. If you have serious amount of money to be invested, maybe it's better to hire programmers to review the code for you if you cannot do it yourself.
6152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NO-PREMINE][EtherGEM] An ethereum network with a different view. on: May 11, 2018, 04:20:48 AM
I finally receive payment for my local ANN translation. Thanks! This tell me that this community and developer are paying attention to anyone effort to make this coin grow. I'll hodl that reward till it reaches $10k lol. Good luck and cheers! Wink
6153  Economy / Economics / Re: one question tickling my mind on: May 11, 2018, 04:14:00 AM
i have one question..
in 2011 bitcoins per 50,000 to 500,000 we spent for nothing, just pranking and stuff...
if one person kept 50,000 bitcoins in his account from 2011 up till now,
would the bitcoins still be valid for transactions?

I have different opinion on this matter. I think if all Bitcoin holders at that time (2010) just hold without spent (using) it, Bitcoin could be useless. Present value is determined from the past action. Bitcoin reach $10k price along with its stories, such as pizza day, Cyprus banking crisis, and other countries with "trash" fiat value. You may argue with gold case when it mainly uses for store of value, BUT gold has a long history of being medium of exchange.
6154  Economy / Economics / Re: What are the challenges for investment with Small capital? on: May 11, 2018, 03:27:49 AM
In the study of economics, Investment mean any addition in physical stock as well as stock of finished goods,  or you can say any putting money in anything for the motive of profit.I want to know your opinion that what are main challenges for small investors in any type of business now a days, If he/she has nothing after his investment?

I think small investment just doesn't work because the ROI would be too small to make it counts. For example 20% return per annum with $1,000 investment is only $200. If you want to be financially free, you better of create your own business that could generate 10x (or more) return per annum. Remember that E (employee) -> B (business owner) -> I (investor).
But if you just want to protect your wealth (store of value) then 5%-10% return is fine to compensate inflation.
6155  Other / Meta / Re: All About Merit. on: May 11, 2018, 03:13:18 AM
As this forum is supposed to be discussion about bitcoin and not about leveling up for bounties. I don't see merit is a problem. In discussion you are judged by your post content, not your rank. BUT, if you are here only to make some money then it's indeed a problem because you need merit to level up your account.
Newbie to newbie advice: you better of do other bounties, not signature one.
6156  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: A critique on the Lightning Network from a regular poster. Long. on: May 10, 2018, 05:14:31 AM
They did, the limit is now 4x higher at 4MB.
Biggest ever Bitcoin block was 2.3 MB. That's bigger than the 2MB you're asking for.

Lightning testing has been conducted on the Bitcoin testnet for over 1 year, and increasingly large amounts of people are using it with the live Bitcoin blockchain (6000+ channels moving around 18 BTC right now).
Lightning payment channels are proven technology, by definition. It's been tested extensively now.

No-one can prevent forks in the code or any blockchain forks caused by forked code. The Bitcoin developers can only do their best to make sure that Bitcoin users stay on the Bitcoin chain, they cannot control the actions of people deliberately splitting the blockchain.

Thanks for this enlightening message, much appreciated!
6157  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: A critique on the Lightning Network from a regular poster. Long. on: May 09, 2018, 10:02:25 AM
Hard fork to 2mb blocks and risk Bitcoin to become the altcoin because you-1 believe the Lightning Network, which is still beta-2, "is still unproven and so many different concepts make it even more doubtful".
That must be one of the most stupid posts I have read lately.-3

Well, on above statement I'm just talking about past event. Just hypothetical, if there is bigger block-size, core dev could develop LN without "pressure" and fees would still be low.
1. I'm merely a scholar who learning about btc. It's not just my personal opinion.
2. Yes, beta means unproven
3. Thank you for your compliment
6158  Local / Altcoins (Bahasa Indonesia) / Re: [ANN][TANPA-PREMINE][EtherGEM] Jaringan ethereum dengan pandangan berbeda on: May 08, 2018, 01:23:10 PM

6159  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: A critique on the Lightning Network from a regular poster. Long. on: May 08, 2018, 01:02:42 PM
"anything not core gets sidelined as a altcoin."
Wonder what op expect people to call Bitcoin forks. Bitcoin 1, Bitcoin 2, Bitcoin 3...? Anyway sometimes I wonder why the name Altcoin was chosen for non Bitcoin coins. I think AlternativeBicoin(Altbitcoin?)is a more befitting name.
Why me alone? It does not matter what I believe. Ask the whole community what they consider the altcoins are.
What about you? If I say I am going to give you .01 "Bitcoin" what do you expect to receive?

Guess no amount of this potential problem would make Lightning Network as scary as Centralized Exchanges. What I like most about LN  is that people still have control of their Bitcoin unlike the toxic exchanges that exist today.
"As scary as centralized exchanges"? I used them to buy Bitcoins last week. It was not scary.

Core should've raised the blocksize at least 2MB while developing LN, because the tech is still unproven and so many different concepts make it even more doubtful. I just don't get it, they could prevent bcash split and still developing LN. Oh whatever will be, will be...
