6141  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is this right time to buy bitcoin?? on: June 29, 2017, 07:24:40 AM
But you should only buy as much you can afford to lose.

That's what people say when they advice others in relation to gambling. In reality, the exchange rate is just a temporary reflection that has basically no value for long term holders. If you discard that aspect, there is absolutely nothing to lose. If you buy yourself 0.1BTC as starter, then you'll have that number of coins sitting in your wallet regardless of the exchange rate - so what does one lose then? I remember how the shutdown of Silkroad resulted in a massive selloff - within an hour or so, my holdings in BTC and LTC lost +40% in value. I wasn't that confident back then as I am now, but I said to myself, as long as I don't sell, I am not losing anything, and that's how you should look at this situation.
6142  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tipping homeless people with Bitcoin paper wallets on: June 29, 2017, 07:01:43 AM
They will lose most of the tips in transaction fees so instead of filing the pockets of miners you can just give them cash  Grin

If you fill a paper wallet with like 0.01BTC, you'll end up paying (assuming the transaction has an average byte size) around 75K satoshi in fees. If you're a penny pincher and don't mind having to wait a while, you could even do it with 40-50K in fees. Give them food, or at least pay for a place where they can sleep for a few bucks - handing out money just like that isn't the right option.
6143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Russia] Burger King to accept Bitcoin this summer! on: June 29, 2017, 06:37:13 AM
Most of these merchants or retailers have very good CCTV systems that can be used to link the identity of the user with the Bitcoin wallet that are used.

Is this good for Bitcoin?  ^hmmmmm^

The point is that you should use a different address each time you settle one or more purchases. Say, if you transfer an x amount of coins from a mixer, exchange, etc, to that throw away address, and after a few purchases you burned through your balance, you simply delete that address. Isn't that difficult, right? No one with a decent functioning brain will use an address in such circumstances all the time.
6144  Economy / Services / Re: [OPEN] | 🔥 Bitmixer.io Signature Campaign 🔥 | Earn up to 0.035 BTC/week on: June 28, 2017, 07:49:50 PM
I am experiencing this as well. I had 12 posts a few hours back, and they have all been reset to zero. It's not really Bitmixer's fault, but I think the bot should count posts based on each seperate week, instead tethering payouts to the total post count. It seems that posts aren't being counted as the bot holds itself on to the previous post count. It means that I have to create 12 more post to make the bot count 1 post.

6146  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-06-27] WannaCry Some More? Petya Bitcoin Ransomware Attacks on: June 28, 2017, 03:32:54 PM
I seriously don't get why after WannaCry businesses haven't taken the necessary steps to tighten their overall IT security....
I can't seem to understand it either. It has been pointed out in the news that various large businesses are losing over a million per day, due to them not being able to operate properly, and thus had to halt various sections of their business. Let's pretend they have like 1000 desktops/servers running in total, I am sure they would get a decent bulk discount, it would likely cost them less than $200K on new operating systems. Also let's put another $20K on top of that for the extra effort that the IT people have to do, and you could have prevented these massive losses easily. Just wait for another attack, businesses will never learn...
6147  Economy / Speculation / Re: Anyone else think "long term" hodlers are idiots? on: June 28, 2017, 03:06:54 PM
Being up 200% in 4 years... I have smashed everyone in the stock market.. soo no I think I am a fucking god.

200% is obviously a very decent return, but in four years time I would have expected you to net more than that, how come? If you are the original creator of your account, you have had enough opportunities to buy a large number of coins below the $300 level back in 2015. If you combined that with some buying low and selling high, you would have made some great profits on top of that.
6148  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10K at the end of 2017? on: June 28, 2017, 02:41:35 PM
if it punches through $2600 in the next 24 hours then we might be in for a suprise

Not really. If you look at how the market has been performing lately, you'll notice how repetitive the patterns are. It will continue to bounce up and down below the $3000 level, as long as there isn't any sort of good news coming regarding the activation of SW2X. Till that time no one should expect fireworks. If you're holding, just keep waiting, and if you're a trader, then use these ups and downs in your advantage. There isn't much more that you can do.
6149  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-06-27] Surveys Suggest Bitcoin Still Has Enormous Growth Potential on: June 28, 2017, 02:11:34 PM
I seriously believe that what we have been experiencing so far in terms of growth, it's nothing more than peanuts. Just wait for the day where people will start to convert a serious part of their savings into Bitcoin, to keep it outside the reach of banks and governments. Point however is that a large number of people still don't understand anything of how Bitcoin works, and how it can help them achieve a good level of financial freedom. People focus too much on Bitcoin as investment asset, and that needs to change. Everything takes time...
6150  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-05-26] Why the Bitcoin Price Will Go Up to $5,000 By the End of 2017 on: June 26, 2017, 09:17:05 PM
I probably have lost the count of how many times articles nowadays contain the term expert. Experts expect this, experts expect that, bla bla bla... If we have to believe Stelian Belta, Bitcoin's market cap will increase to $1 trillion in the coming 3 years. To put it into perspective, in current situation a $1 trillion market cap translates into 1BTC to cost $60K. Roll Eyes
6151  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC 2500$ / $3000 ? on: June 26, 2017, 10:05:32 AM
It is very difficult for beginners to understand what network separation is.
How is that difficult with so many articles popping up containing a decent bit of information regarding chain splits, UASF, hard forks, etc? If you don't do any effort to know where you put your money in, and what the potential dangers are, seriously, what are you doing here? Gambling can be done through fiat related casinos if you so wish...

And they make the simplest decision - to sell bitcoin.
Simple, but the most idiotic solution.

They still do not trust bitcoin. And because of this, a panic is created in the market.
I am more leaning towards the fact that these people don't trust themselves.

I do not know what will happen on August 1, but it worries me too.
At this point no one for sure knows, but it's not looking all that bad with the potential activation of Segwit2x knocking on the door. It should happen before the end of next month.
6152  Economy / Economics / Re: Will UASF affect Bitcoin ? on: June 26, 2017, 08:27:41 AM
in about half a year's time, 2M hard fork comes about.
More like three months...

If SegWit is worth it, it should be activated without any reservations like going for hard fork thereafter.
In an ideal situation that would be the likely outcome, but the point is that the need for a change/improvement is higher than it was ever before. No matter how we think about the miners, which mostly isn't very positive, they are part of the game, and thus Segwit2x is more or less the closest we can come in terms of a major agreement. Overall, it's not a bad proposal at all, it's perfectly workable.

That's the reason why the Bitcoin Core team will likely reject this proposal, and they will be right
That's what you hope...
6153  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC 2500$ / $3000 ? on: June 26, 2017, 08:17:03 AM
The $3000 price wall might be breached but it will not last long. I also expected that because it is too early for bitcoin to reach that price, maybe after the network splitting we will be seeing it.

Network split? I am fairly sure that with the UASF more or less being prevented by having miners largely support Segwit2x, the chances for a chain split have become lower than they were, ever before. The market is holding a conservative stance because people want to see how things are going with Segwit2x. If a chain split was seriously looming, the market would respond to that by correcting itself as people either enlarge their fiat holdings by liquidating Bitcoin, or use altcoins to hedge Bitcoin.
6154  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: BUY high sell low ? on: June 26, 2017, 07:19:46 AM
just my predictions are not so accurate even thou I study market every day, I read a lot about everything.

In most cases when it comes to altcoins, you shouldn't really blame yourself for going wrong when trading them. It's a market that mainly the market movers benefit from, and after that those that guess right (aka gamblers). If you genuinely try to gain profits with altcoin trading, you'll either need to look for repetitive patterns, or simply do less frequent trading. In some cases it pays off in a better manner if you just buy at x price, and sell at y price a month or two later.
6155  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why some people prefer Bitcoin over fiat ? on: June 26, 2017, 06:58:44 AM
Mostly people prefer bitcoin because they can earn from it thats why they are using it than fiat. It is very difficult to earn fiat now because you need to work from it in real life/

If you're a capable developer, graphic designer, or whatever else that is quite in demand these days, you will have no problems earning yourself a decent bit of money through fiat. People have become extremely lazy due to signature campaigns and bounty threads offered by services and altcoins, allowing people to earn money without much effort for it in return. If you find it hard to earn money in your personal situation, then it's either a matter of where you come from (e.g. third world country), or you simply don't push yourself hard enough. Money doesn't grow on trees, you need to work for it.
6156  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-06-25] Markets Update: After Some Stability Bitcoin Price Trends Downwards on: June 26, 2017, 06:26:23 AM
I would say $3000 is becoming increasingly difficult to reach

Maybe if had a very good news could push the price for  $3000

Point is that logically, and justifiably, we shouldn't be at current levels as there is nothing that has changed fundamentally. In that regard, it's more than normal that the market isn't able to hold its position too long if we go over the $2700 level. In order to allow the market to move past the $3000 level, we definitely need the Segwit2x activation to become reality. As long as that isn't the case, people will constantly think about what might happen if we proceed with the UASF as was the initial plan. It's no secret that certain miners aren't looking forward to that.

6158  Economy / Economics / Re: What is the best short-term investment you have ever made? on: June 25, 2017, 09:23:55 PM
I have once made a 500% profit in just a few days with Nautiluscoin on Mintpal back in 2014. I must however note that I did it with a lousy 0.10BTC, but hey, better something than nothing. If we talk about serious amounts, then it was probably just after the MtGox collapse, or even this year - I am not completely sure. If I look at how much profit I have made in the last three months with trading alone (not counting the price that has gone up), then it's more or less in the range of 150%.
6159  Economy / Speculation / Re: Anyone else think "long term" hodlers are idiots? on: June 25, 2017, 09:02:43 PM
If idiot means that holding Bitcoin allowed me to earn more money than I possibly could ever earn without Bitcoin, then sure, call me an idiot. Cheesy Very important point that you miss here, is the fact that the more experienced people here have coins and funds that they specifically use for trading purposes, and enough coins in their cold wallet(s) for long term holding purposes. Only noobs focus on just one of these two options while in reality, both can be done simultaneously without any problems.
6160  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What is your trading strategy? on: June 25, 2017, 03:24:04 PM
To be honest the best strategy over the long run is HODL
So far at least, as long as you keep the coins for the long run the profits do seem to make themselves.

If you explicitly look at both holding and trading, then both might turn out to be a very profitable practice, but the main difference here is the level of risk you expose yourself to. Holding requires no effort, and basically no risk aside from the fiat value that might go down, but you'll always have the same number of coins in the end. Trading on the other hand requires (depending on how frequent you trade) quite some effort/time, and a great level of experience and market understanding. But with the level of volatility that Bitcoin experiences, it's very likely that the profits an experienced trader gains, easily surpass the profits from someone holding. Benefit of trading is that if you're a profitable trader, that you'll end up with more coins, and more coins means more value that you can gain in case the price happens to go up.
