Night bitwisdom:

Bitcoin Difficulty:    59,335,351,234
Estimated Next Difficulty:    60,443,097,899 (+1.87%)
Adjust time:    After 379 Blocks, About 2.5 days
Hashrate(?):    438,139,628 GH/s

So I really like that if we could get under 2 that would be amazing.  But likely there are still enough batch 1 S7's being delivered we likely will be over 2.

Price around 238.  It teased us and got under a dollar away from 240 but never did get to it.
6162  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Sidehack stick solo pool club on: September 29, 2015, 03:21:07 AM
lol edonkey you beat me to it! I was gonna make a comment about going blind from that sort of thing.

Anyways, my input on some people's aversion to the 1 user = 1 share, nobody is forcing you to clock your stick higher or lower, or to partake in the pool at all for that matter.  For example I have both mind clocked fairly low, so even though my second is technically a "donation", I feel better about having both pointed there.  If you don't, point your other stick/miners at other pools.  Realistically, if we did hit a block, a good chunk more should go to Phillip for all the extra hash he's rolling into our pool (stick that in your pipe and smoke it).

In re: to fun social things, we could start posting pictures of our cats? (Just kidding, I hate socializing. And cats.)

I don't think anyone would disagree with that.  He no doubt has been the number one hasher in the pool.

And add organizing this group ontop.  I think he has put in most work and money.

playing with my stick as we speak, trying higher freq

Playing with your stick huh?

Are you sure you're on the right forum?

Sorry, maybe I shouldn't have had that second glass of wine tonight Wink

When I said I hoped it got more social.... this was not the direction I was thinking Smiley.

This should be fun I think is main thing I got out of this.   I am trying to think of fun ideas.  Anyone have any fun social ideas for the group?

Back on track. I need to buy a powered hub ^_^

If you really want to push them you need a Y cable or something to allow power from 2 USB ports.  Unless you are getting a ton of power through 1 port somehow.

With Y cable I am able to get 16gh out of a stick.  I need some time to built something to hold my usb stick nicely in front of a fan to cool it as it get's warm at 16gh.
6165  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Modifying a USB hub for extra power and "I did it!" showoff thread on: September 29, 2015, 02:11:46 AM

just to let you know, these are nasty to modify, has to get the heat-gun and iron to get the plastic potting off.

After some looking, found an image of these with the plastic cover removed:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/291548978082?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&var=590604172289&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

http://cdn2.goughlui.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/DSC_9492.jpg

Which looks like they would work without the mess.

Cut the digital left side off (in the pic), re-connect the trace on the right, and add the second power/ground wire's. Can even reuse the plastic cover to glue the second plug wires in place.

Hmm.. I might just grab a few to play with it doesn’t look to hard, even to splice in a secondary plug on a cable just for power.

Are you trying to just get power from 2 usb's for this or are you hooking the little dongle or to something else for more power?

You can get Y splitters very cheap on ebay.  I think it was Phil that pointed these out in another thread - http://www.ebay.com/itm/221661361513?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

They are 1.45 each.  Only thing is it took a LONG time to get.  So do not order them if you need them quick.  But order and have 2 weeks or so they are quite a bargain.  The 5 I got all seem to work good aswell.  So work as advertised.
6166  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 6 Vs Antminer S7, which one you will choose? on: September 29, 2015, 01:40:46 AM
I hope Avalon will do better job on  noise level of Avalon 6, then can get more customers on the current hard situation.

Avalon 4.1 is very quiet.  It's the quietest fan miner I have had.    Hopefully they keep this aspect as it was pretty amazing on that front.

Can you link to any of the sites that show pre-orders?   I am not pre-ordering but would enjoy to see the site to see if looks creditable.
It's decently quiet but gets loud at points, seems my Antminer S5 with modded fans are possibly quieter overall.

I have 3 and have not experienced these points.   Are you overclocking or something?   I am running mine at very efficient settings.   I just have not seen a miner that matches them on quietness.

Have ran efficient most of their life's.  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1008726.0
No, no overclock but my s5 runs about 38 db at a foot or two away, I will have to measure the Avalon on noise, it is by no means loud but occasionally spikes.

Yea measure them and let us know.  I would be interested in hearing it.   I think something is off with your unit if your getting these spikes that are making it louder then a S5 even modified.

You might check your fan and see if something's wrong.   I have 3 and do not experience the spikes on any of them.  All were bought directly from avalon (e-hash) not second hand.    But I even had them running in my bedroom they were so quiet.  Only miner I have done this with.

I would stay far away from Avalon given my experience with them.  I won't buy one of their miners again.

Is your experience from the early avalons?  I'm guessing so with that.

I ordered some 4.1's from when I did a guide for it.   All went fine when I ordered from ehash.   But I realize that is different then those who dealt with original avalon.
6169  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did you earn some bitcoin today? on: September 29, 2015, 12:25:30 AM
One of those favorite times of the week for me.  Signature time which is always fun.   Sadly it will be spend soon though on a RPI kit to play with.

Also mining as always.   Which since price of coins went up a little today is nice.

How much do you earn with mining? Do you kine at home or some cloud miners?

I enjoy playing with hardware and doing hardware guides.  So I have done mostly hardware miners.   I was able to use a work area for a mining room instead of work and just used a lot of CFM worth of fan's and am happy to say I was able to mine through summer.

I do have a little in cloud's but it is no where near my hardware miners.    I did cloud for fun just to try.

so far today in 22 hours and 20 min which should be 134 blocks

we made 376576 - 376445 =  132 blocks   not that bad

https://blockchain.info/blocks

I always love your updates thank you for doing them.  I have wondered how do you get the number we should be at?   Is it a website your going to or are you doing some math by hand?

1 block every 10 mins is 6 blocks an hour is 144 a day, so start at midnight being 0 blocks for the day and depending what time of day it is you can easily figure out how many blocks "should have been" solved already.  At least I'm guessing that's how he does it.

I really enjoy this thread and the updates, too.  Watching the diff is just part of the fun of bitcoin.  /popcorn

This may be a horribly stupid question but how do you get the 144 number that it should have been?   It seems like it would change which each difficulty change.  I'm not clicking on how you get the "should be" number.

And thank you for taking time to help me understand it,  I'm just wanting to be able to calculate it myself.
For 24 hours @Mikestang gave the calculation. 10 minutes is average of the block time between blocks.

Quote
so far today in 22 hours and 20 min which should be 134 blocks
we made 376576 - 376445 =  132 blocks   not that bad

Check the date of block 376445; it's 2015-09-28 00:03:37 (First block of the day)
https://blockchain.info/block/00000000000000000c91485e60e4bbf4143c7993c7d53c6e36493dde7b1b99ca

Check the date of block 376576; it's 2015-09-28 22:19:20 (Last block at the given time)
https://blockchain.info/block/00000000000000000b304a89e75f6174f2aeb551fee3338416f020e6fff9e096

Approximately 22 hours and 20 minutes passed between those blocks.

Now; Multiply the hours by 6 and divide the minutes by 10 then calculate the sum: 22*6 + 20/10 = 134 blocks should be found. (That's average, proposed by Satoshi Nakamoto)

But; Check the block count by calculating the difference between block heights: 376576 - 376445 =  132

That shows 2 blocks away from the average.

Wow thank you for doing this!   Truly made it easy to understand.  I think i now can calculate it.   Bookmarked this even Smiley

Thanks again for your time doing it. We are less then a dollar away from 240.... crossing fingers for 240 value hopefully in near future.

Thanks for all the time you spend on this campaign.  It has been a great campaign and a fun thing to be apart of.

I have been apart of it for over 6 months.  I can say it is the best campaign around.    Happy to be a part of it.
6172  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Sidehack stick solo pool club on: September 28, 2015, 11:44:59 PM
i dont think you guys are understanding.

its not 1 stick = 1 share.. its 1 user = 1 share.. i dont think he will ever put it 8ghs = 1 share, so if you OC yours to 16ghs you get 2 shares, because that would be extremely complicated..

so if you had 5 8ghs sticks and 1 had 2 8ghs sticks and this pool found a block we would get equal amounts.. if there was 50 users it would be 1/50th of the 25 bitcoins. or .5 btc

this is why it wouldnt matter if you had 5 8ghs sticks and 1 450ghs s3 and i had only 2 8ghs sticks.. if we get a block we would get equal amounts..

what this pool is doing is letting the people that have more hash, or rented hash, help the people that have 8ghs sticks get a chance of a block then if they just went solo, and getting more then they would if they just mined on a pool (if this does find a block)..

this pretty much captures my intentions. i want every person to have at least a stick and an equal share.

right now i am pointing two down clocked s7s twenty sticks and part of an s3.
It is close to 9th.

i get that some will try to game this by running 1 stick for 30 days. i dont mind if people do this as long as they use a compac.

a better setup variation of this idea is the home miners future.

and it is viable if it is low watt power effiecint gear.

I need to show the math and it is a long thread. but think of this pool like playing a three digit number the real odds are 999 to 1 the state pays 500 to 1 . playing this pool club with one stick is like getting 2000 to 1.
I think this is the future for a small miner.

Thanks phil for taking time to anwser this.   I think I am understanding what you are sayng.   1 stick - 1 equal share is pretty simple to understand.

Hopefully we can get the social part now we know how it will be done after 30 days Smiley.

Well, I forgot about the sudo apt-get update, being done first  Roll Eyes

As long as you got a good powered hub (2.0 for the Pi's) you should be good to go.

Here's 1 week running 5 stick's on a Pi-2 @ 175 freq. in balanced with 4 pools, so I think that's why the GF is 16, + the phone company has been working on the lines, which doesn't help, but still managed to get a best share of 197M (now all I need is ~65B share  Grin).

I will warn on powered hub not all 2.0 does the PI's like.  If you have trouble and cannot get to it try to use.   Some have a power feedback - https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=91&t=17560 .  If you cannot get the hub to work try the compac directly on the pi and you can see if you have a hub problem.

I was kinda a pain for me and my hub but I got it working after some reading.
6175  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [SIDEHACK STICK] Official sales thread for everywhere not already covered on: September 28, 2015, 11:28:56 PM
As of right now, I am coming up on the end of my available parts so am suspending sales until we're ready to start rolling the next batch. This will probably be a week or two from right now, since we're waiting on some funds to arrive and then go right back out for parts.

All pending orders will go out within the next three days.

Once we start rolling on the second batch, unless orders come flying in, we should be able to ship from standing stock without a backlog. Hopefully some of the issues with this batch that caused a lot of manual work requirement will be resolved on the next batch.

Thanks for update.  It could be a horrible idea.  But it seems people like to collect the colors on a lot of USB sticks.  Have you thought about using a different color heatsink for second batch?
6176  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: September 28, 2015, 11:24:05 PM
I paid $.65/watt including shipping (bought from a wholesaler on eBay), $2800 for 2 inverters, installation was $1.10/watt (1 inverter would have worked if I went with SolarEdge w/optimizers). I had to take a break from mining when my Edison bill hit $900 last November for running about 8 TH.

I'm guessing you did the ROI math for the solar factoring in other uses at your home, because otherwise I fail to see how spending thousands of dollars in solar equipment is a good "investment".  Don't get me wrong, I think it's really cool, but the finances rarely make sense to me.

Thank you for sharing price.   Gives me kinda a estimate.   Sadly I cannot justify it with my electricity.   Just will take too long for me to ROI on it.    I can see long term though it would be very nice to have but longer term then I want currently on investments.

Over lifetime of house if you used that as scale I'm sure it will pay off sometime, and then you would have a great setup.  Just seems to take a while compared to cheap electricity.

Your picture is from the older version of S7, manufactured from S5+ leftover components. Controller and housing. Now we have a new and "better" S7.

Except this housing is difference to that of the S5+? The ones I saw certainly weren't extruded aluminium.

New S5+ housing is from aluminium. Exactly the same shape as your old  S7 miner.
S5+ pictures

New S7 housing  from philipma1957 picture

damn it looks like mine are the same as Dogie's review unit (the older style I guess?)

thats kind of a rip, I ordered day 1/2 .. do we know what "better" means on the newer S7?

the main tell is the controllers power connector on the older S7 is pointing out the side just like the S5+.. the newer S7 looks like its pointing up

I see the difference on controller on PCI-e going up.  Does the "new" one have 9 slots for blades still I could not tell from picture looks like still nine i'm estimating after looking at it again..

Is there more details as far as the housing?   I guess I would love to see side by sides if anyone happens to have both.

Would be nice to get a couple SP50's running in a beast like this:

http://www.grcooling.com/containerized-carnotjet-data-center/

It would be nice, but we'll never ROI that investment!

There are at least two copanies on here that sell pre-done containers.  They seem very high to me and I don't think they will make sense for most.  If you are dragging the entire thing from place to place..... i guess so but chances are once you sit it you will not be moving it again.

GND seems to be watching which is actually nice to know a data center is looking at thread.   GND I know you have talked about prices likely to go down again sometime in future (I believe).   If there was a big group buy of hardware sent to you could you do as far as lowest price that is your next drop?  And when would you expect it to happen?
6180  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cloud Mining - Please help a newbie on: September 28, 2015, 09:50:06 PM
So, please stop promoting this Bit-X scam for a few Satoshi in sig campaign, while you are calling other services like www.CloudMining.website, which are paying longer than Bit-X, as scam. This is sheer hypocrisy.

Here is a link for bitfury showing they allocated 1 PH to Bit-x https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=896350.0 .  Remember I am not tied with company so that is what I have. I ask you to show what hardware you are using.   You never have said anything or a company vouch that you have hardware.  Their main business is being a exchange United Kingdom as far as Bit-X.

As far as me pushing.  I am only pushing research.  EVERYONE should do their own research before investing anything specifically cloud mining, as sadly a lot of sites are scams.  If you buy bit-x hash I personally make ZERO off of it.   I am paid as a signature campaign person who a specialty in hardware mining.  Do not invest in anything because of me pushing researching before buying.

If you have a question for Bit-X - https://bit-x.com/customer/support .  I believe you can even call if you are able to call UK numbers.    That is where to ask questions to them.  Not through me as in no way am I an official proxy of support.

I am not perfect I lost some during the gawminer day's.   This is why I know everyone should do their own research.    And I have made it clear I mostly do hardware mining as I like playing with hardware.

Again be careful with any investment espically cloud investing.  Always do you research and never put more then you can lose.  As true cloud mining does not guarantee ROI just like hardware mining.  Hopefully this message is a little clear that I am in no way pushing for investments.
