6181  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: New fake ETH giveaways sponsored by Facebook on: February 25, 2022, 07:40:26 AM
According to a study by Pew Research Center, nearly half of adult Americans are getting their information about the world on the Internet through a variety of channels, but the primary way is through social media and Facebook.
Just imagine what kind of opinion they will get if they get scammed by this or similar campaigns? People tend to generalize. It's easier to say crypto is a scam than to admit that you got tricked into handing over your hard-earned money to a bunch of Facebook scammers. Many aren't ready for the responsibilities of self-custody and won't be for many more years.
6182  Economy / Gambling / Re: List Of Crypto Casinos with The Best Faucets on: February 24, 2022, 05:43:55 PM
Update:
Wintomato has been removed from the table!
There has been a valid scam accusation against this platform since February 03, 2022 and they have failed to provide any information to the community as to why they confiscated $20 worth of DOGE from one user.

A warning to those thinking of playing at Wintomato. Read this scam accusation first.
I asked them twice to share their side of the story here and here. Their forum admin was online two days ago and there is still no response regarding this issue.
6183  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S Plus on: February 24, 2022, 05:34:31 PM
That's where I come in and mention open source code & code 'reuse' though: By Foundation forking off tried & tested ColdCard code, essentially large part of the Passport's codebase is already at least reasonably trustable to be secure.
If we can assume that Coldcard's code is secure enough and has been put under the microscope back and forth to look for vulnerabilities. I am not saying it hasn't, nor am I an expert in that department, but Coldcard is not even nearly as popular as Ledger and Trezor. I am sure that more security experts have looked at Trezor and Ledger, be it for the right or wrong reasons. Passport will surely add plenty of their own code and improvements in areas they didn't like with the Coldcard. Those new snippets will also need to be checked thoroughly.

This is a general concept: if there was more collaboration of HW wallet manufacturers and developers, it would be possible to create a 'master firmware' for hardware wallets that everyone, also new companies, could use & hit the ground running. Beneficial for (new) businesses and users.
It's still business. And business is competition. Everyone wants to be on top and get the biggest piece of the pie. When it comes to money, the big fish will always go for the small fish. Reusing open-source code is a double-edged sword. You inherit the good, but you also inherit anything bad, assuming there is something bad. If a serious vulnerability gets found in Coldcard, and Passport uses the exact same code, users of both wallets would have problems until a fix is found.
6184  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X - Black box 2022 on: February 24, 2022, 05:20:03 PM
When I remember that I bought my X for about $90 at the end of 2019 (35% discount for Black Friday), I wonder how the price is even higher than then -
A combination of several factors probably. You mentioned the pandemic. That's certainly one element. The global chip shortage is another one. Inflation and its effect on prices is felt almost everywhere. And Ledger has spent plenty of money on promotions, marketing, and shills recently. Someone has to pay for all that and that would be their customers.
6185  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: New fake ETH giveaways sponsored by Facebook on: February 24, 2022, 05:12:07 PM
What baffles me is, are there people who might believe in a quick profit or doubling the money like this? You need to be really desperate to believe such a scam.
I think there are still many people who fall for things like this. Otherwise, scammers wouldn't continue creating fake campaigns and sites like the one I just posted. Anyone with common sense would just read that message, smile and think how pathetic, and and go about with their life. I don't know how much these Faceobok ads cost, but whatever it is, it certainly generates enough profit for the scammers to keep doing it.
6186  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S Plus on: February 24, 2022, 12:20:31 PM
I would not pay 119 euros for nono S plus because it's untested, closed source device and I bet it's going to have similar problems like terrible model X.
Double the price for a bit more memory and larger screen is not a good deal in my opinion.
I wouldn't buy it either. First because I couldn't care less about their DeFi and NFT support, and second because I don't need it to store my Bitcoin. The Nano S works just fine after many years. Yes, I know it's closed-source.

However, your argument that the Nano S Plus shouldn't be bought because it's untested can be used for any hardware wallet or any piece of equipment that is brand-new. It can't be tested before it's developed and released to the general public. So, I would like to expand on your thought process and say that you shouldn't buy any new hardware wallet by Ledger, Trezor, Passport, (insert company name), for at least a few months to a year to give those who know what they are doing enough time to test it and try to break it. Those who can do it themselves, even better.
6187  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X - Black box 2022 on: February 24, 2022, 12:02:01 PM
I don't think they made significant improvements or hardware changes, otherwise they would be marketing and shilling it as crazy. I just went through some of their most recent social media posts and there is no mention of any improvements to the Nano X.

Whether it now sells in a white or black box, the device costs €149 if shipped within the EU. It's still the same old thing.
6188  Economy / Scam Accusations / New fake ETH giveaways sponsored by Facebook on: February 24, 2022, 11:39:40 AM
Our favourite social media platform, Facebook, is being flooded by new fake giveaways. I have seen a few already. The posts are sponsored and paid for.
The creators are pretending to give away 50.000 ETH to speed up the adoption of cryptocurrencies.
ETH, Elon Musk, and Vitalik. It's all mentioned to create an impression of a genuine giveaway.

Like always, don't trust anyone promising you free money and report such posts to protect those who don't know any better!

6189  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: February 24, 2022, 11:22:46 AM
Since all these votes are highly subjective, I don't think that's injustice at all, to not nominate someone who you think is doing a wrong thing by giving merits in exchange for votes.
I like to stay away from drama and not get myself involved in such contests. I didn't vote last year. I forgot, but maybe I wouldn't have even if I didn't forget. This year I voted because I got tagged by icopress, so I put that on my to-do list. Had I known we would be having this conversation, I would have stayed clear. I stand by what I said previously. If I think that member X is the best in that particular category, I would vote for that user. Him or her meriting people wouldn't change that. The contributions to the forum don't change with those merits. For example, If I knew that you had the same or better results as the user who merited my post, I would put your name instead.
6190  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: trusted recovery agent on: February 24, 2022, 10:55:17 AM
i agree but i could see lot of people recovered by contacting the people like

fastrecovery02@gmail.com
cryptoshades@yahoo.com
cryptomundia@yahoo.com

even if u google these emails those are popular in recovery of btc kindly clarify
I am not sure who those emails belong to. Are they supposed to be for companies that claim they are successfully recovering stolen/lost coins, or are those people who have used such services "successfully"? Anyone can create a Gmail and yahoo account. That doesn't mean their stories are fake, but it also doesn't mean they are true. Shilling and providing fake feedback is done to trick more people into believing that it's a legit business. But anyone can write how they used Company X, how trustworthy they are, cheap, and professional. Don't trust anything you see online, especially when it's about crypto or the recovery of funds, keys, seeds, etc.
6191  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: February 24, 2022, 10:43:20 AM
BTW, you haven't said anything about these websites. What have you thought about them?
I haven't checked any of them out yet. I will do that the next time I decide to add new casinos to the table. I am currently working on some other topic that has caused a backlog of the things I need to update. Soon, hopefully. Wink
6192  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA Champions League Discussion Thread -- 2021/22 Round of 16! on: February 23, 2022, 01:18:04 PM
And they did their thing as always by trying to keep their 1-0 advantage until the end. Because it was going to be enough for Juventus for the second leg. But Villarreal finally scored the equalizer however couldn't get ahead. And now, Juventus are still holding an advantage.
The away goal rule doesn't apply any longer. Therefore, no one has an advantage for the second leg. If the match ends with another draw, no matter how many goals are scored, it's heading into overtime.

Juventus defended very well for most parts of the game. They conceded a goal after they believed that Vlahovic was fouled while losing possession and instead of continuing to play, they froze and expected to hear the referees whistle. The goal that followed was amateurishly conceded. The Mckennie injury was bad because he is the only player with guts and quality in the current midfield. Except the goal, Juve was pretty clueless in that attacking half. I remember one attempt by Morata whose shot went over the goal and one by Locatelli with the same result. In the 2nd half, Vlahovic had one more shot that was saved. Other than that, they relied on defending and being pushed back towards their penalty box.
6193  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards on: February 23, 2022, 01:05:40 PM
icopress could set a rule that disqualifies anyone who Merits posts in the topic before the deadline passes.
That could be a useful addition for the upcoming years if icopress decides to continue with the ceremony. Somehow I don't think he will make such changes for this edition. He has stated that it's his decision whether or not to ignore votes by inactive and recently awakened users. But that's about it really.
6194  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Donation Campaign For 15-Year-Old Swimmer Lana Pudar on: February 23, 2022, 10:58:28 AM
Pmalek, feel bad for you. Maybe should update the thread to say they cannot be contacted and people here should not donate. Good intentions but sad no response. Better luck next time hah
I don't think there is a need to make such updates because no one can donate anyways. I haven't posted any addresses and the whole point of this thread was to see if donations made any sense at all. It was a discussion from which I wanted to draw some conclusions on how to proceed and whether or not to do it. But after dkbit98 suggested that it would be smarter for Lana to introduce herself here and collect the donations in her own name without a 3rd party being involved, I stopped pursuing the idea of me doing it, but I wanted to find some way of approaching her.
6195  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: February 23, 2022, 10:49:52 AM
For example, I never expected crypto gambling sites to charge zero fees for both deposits and withdrawals several years ago.
Blockchain fees keep varying all the time which is why it's understandable as to why they require gamblers to pay fees.
I remember when I was part of the FortuneJack signature campaign a few years ago. Our signature earnings were deposited to our casino accounts and we could withdraw them at any time. Like today, they were free back in those days as well, but the blockchain fees were much more expensive. It wasn't uncommon to see that FortuneJack paid $15, $20 or even more for each withdrawal. And all that came from their pockets! Now imagine that on a bigger scale where all their players carry out similar withdrawals!? They obviously had (maybe they still have) enough players for that not to cause problems profit-wise.
6196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Using Waves With Nano Ledger S on: February 23, 2022, 10:43:00 AM
The way that desktop wallet aka exchange works and is designed isn't really the topic of this discussion. I don't think anyone here has ever used Waves or the Waves.Exchnage client to be able to comment on that. The things you explained about seeing all your accounts in the same place no matter how you log in to the wallet could be an oversight and bug by those who created it.

What is important is that you shouldn't have the possibility to spend from the wallet whose private keys are stored on your Ledger without the device being connected and unlocked + the Waves app being opened. You can see your entire portfolio in Ledger Live as well, with or without the hardware wallet connected. Don't concentrate on that any more.

Ask their support to precisely explain how to move your coins from whatever "seed wallets" you have created, to your Ledger. That's it. Don't confuse people with unimportant walls of text. No one wants to or can concentrate on your thought process, emotions, fears, and whatnot.
6197  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Donation Campaign For 15-Year-Old Swimmer Lana Pudar on: February 23, 2022, 10:28:54 AM
btw I found one more failed gogetfunding campaign for collecting money that was approved by her father Velibor
Now that you mentioned her father, the last thing I could try is get in touch with him. From what I can see, his Facebook page does accept messages in contrast to Lana's. But I am so tired of seeing a brick wall after each of my failed contact attempt. Grin
We will see...
6198  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: February 23, 2022, 10:21:42 AM
Without pointing fingers, some of the users who are rewarding a lot of merits to voters are nominated for a reason and deserve to be nominees, if not winners in their respective categories. So there are two choices and both are wrong and right at the same time. You either don't vote for them if you think what they are doing is not right. But that is an injustice in itself. Or you vote for them and potentially get merited, and then it looks like you only voted for someone to be merited by that same person.
6199  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: February 23, 2022, 10:08:46 AM
You quite rightly point out that there are not enough options for exchanging cryptocurrencies that are convenient for players and, in general, such cryptocurrencies, using which the player would pay very insignificant commissions.
I don't think it's something that can be done cheaply even for the casinos. Each transaction on the blockchain requires that you pay fees. Doesn't matter if it's a private entity or a big casino that carries out those transfers. If they worked with 3rd party instant exchanges, that would be even more expensive because the middlemen will take their cut as well. Casinos could allow players to swap two assets from their own pool of coins because they are receiving deposits in various coins. But honestly, I don't see this becoming a thing in the future as it doesn't generate any profit for the platforms and they aren't running non-profitable organizations after all.
