622  Economy / Speculation / A little lesson learned the hard way - Margin Call on: September 12, 2011, 09:45:34 PM
I will tell you a little story from yesterday:

I opened a Bitcoinica account and played with it. Then, suddenly a big spike to 7 occured. My immediate thought: a very good opportunity to attempt a short sale, because 7 is at the moment not sustainable.
so i attempted to sell bitcoins @ 7. this is what happened: ( you have to read it from bottim to top)

BTCUSD   Market   175.0   -   Forced liquidation @ 7.4300559927762   Sep 11 04:17 PM
BTCUSD   Market   -50.0   -   Executed @ 6.9769   Sep 11 04:16 PM
BTCUSD   Market   -50.0   -   Executed @ 5.9849   Sep 11 04:09 PM
BTCUSD   Limit   -25.0   $5.6900   Executed @ 5.9846   Sep 11 03:59 PM
BTCUSD   Limit   -50.0   $5.6900   Executed @ 5.9846   Sep 11 03:59

The first mistake was i assumed i could actually sell at 7. But the spread was over 1 dollar, so i shortsold at 6.

yes, i was the sucker to buy coins at 7.4.

the second mistake: had i provided enough liquidity i could have made a nice profit by now. but i underestimated the 1:5 margin.

624  Local / Biete / Re: vk: 3x Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 Xtreme Extreme 1GB on: September 09, 2011, 12:15:05 PM

628  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rally!! Back up to $7 on: September 06, 2011, 02:46:41 PM
put in a sliding stop-loss in case the rally fizzles
629  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rally!! Back up to $7 on: September 06, 2011, 02:36:44 PM
looks like we established a bottom of 6.1, from where we can rally

631  Economy / Speculation / Re: What percentage loss have you taken speculating on bitcoin so far? on: September 05, 2011, 11:23:02 PM
i boldly bought in at 18. then some more at 22. in the long, slow slide i bought more at 13.
then i started some daytrading, which brought me down to an average investment of 10.5. i sold everything at 8.8 now waiting to buy back at the bottom.
so my loss is about 16%. - the total investment was in the low single digits of my total savings.

see? somebody admitted it.

what is even more embarrassing is i first heard about bitcoin august 2010, but decided i am too busy to further investigate it.
but i don't think it was stupid. i lost even more money percentage wise in the stock market recently, and that was recommended by my bank. its all a big gamble. don't put in it what you can't afford to lose.
632  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: EUROPEAN BITCOIN CONFERENCE 2011, PRAGUE NOV 25-27 on: September 02, 2011, 01:58:03 PM
looks good. will try to attend.
633  Economy / Speculation / Re: 8/28/11 Speculation Thread on: August 28, 2011, 07:12:26 PM
- Sell walls are fake at Mtgox.

i just witnessed the 9.5 sellwall of 5000 vanish to ~300 BTC, when the price was at 9.45. then a couple minutes later, it is here again. i expect it to vanish totally one the price gets in its range.
but in fact think it is possible that the price falls down quickly, the bids are very, very shallow. just a selloff of 1k could demolish the price, down to 8.5. so it might be a very risky thing to hold bitcoins at the moment..
634  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Bitcoin beim Elektrischen Reporter on: August 25, 2011, 09:54:50 AM

super szene:

€->paypal->mistkübel.

636  Economy / Speculation / Re: Post here when you have no idea which way the market is going to go on: August 22, 2011, 09:43:47 PM
i came here to admit i have no idea where we are heading right now

the only thing i strongly suspect is Bitcoin will take over a large amount of the Financial World once two of those three things happen:

  • Better Clients and Applications
  • Breakdown of the World's Financial System
  • Merchants will adopt it in the Internet wide-scale.

so basically - i went all-in and maybe i can avoid looking at the price longer than 24h. (Which i did not manage to do since May..)
637  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: State of TradeHill [Bitcoin.com Announcement] on: August 18, 2011, 09:33:27 PM
as long as they are clear to everyone who they are and that they are not the "official" open-source project, i see no problem.

a good set of commercial offerings is the best thing that can happen to bitcoin.com i am looking forward to see some new services for bitcoin coming up.

just make sure you have clear links to bitcoin.org on a "about" page.

+1 Danijel Habek
640  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: VORSICHT VOR OPSCHINKEN !! BETRUG !!! on: August 18, 2011, 07:57:31 AM
ebenfalls negative erfahrungen.
