621  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mempool Observer Topic on: January 08, 2024, 05:15:35 AM
I still do not expect Ordinals to last for a long time, but it will crash like NFTs. (and we will have James Jani probably make another video documentary about that - crazy how people have not learned their lessons with NFTs).

NFTs are the new altcoin, which are the new bitcoin... A lot of people still believe bitcoin is a ponzi scheme. But the truth is, the situation is a lot more complex than that, for all 3 entities.

A lot (the vast majority) of NFTs are produced for the sole purpose of making their creator money -- no doubt about that. Same thing with altcoins. Yet there are still some NFTs that have real-world utility, just like with altcoins... even if that utility is just being a collectible.

I've been going on about it for close to 2 years here now: there is a legitimate demand for some NFTs as collector's items. There are also flippers looking to sell them to other flippers and collectors at a higher price than which they bought them. This is true in every area of collectibles.

Like Bitcoin did for money, NFTs are an attempt to recreate a physical good in the digital realm. They are ownable, transferrable, and often immutable (though not always).

A lot of it is very silly with valuations driven purely by well-oiled hype machines. But sometimes they are just endearing to collectors, who want to own one simply because it makes them feel good to know that its in their wallet.

Case in point, I'm about to make a trade for one of these Bitcoin NFTs... Its my second and I have no plans to sell one, I just like knowing that I'll have 2 of them:

Is it silly and stupid? Perhaps to a lot of people. But the point is, there is a legit market for a lot of this stuff, driven by legit demand from collectors. These collectors could care less what the non-believers think. As Bitcoin grows more popular, so will the collector base for such items (including at least some Ordinals).

The Cleveland Browns were scammed.

Except they did make it to the playoffs for the first time in several years, so it wasn't a total scam.

@Everyone ---Boys and gals... are any of you interested in doing a playoffs fantasy league?  It's of course nothing complex and time consuming and what, not like regular fantasy football is.  It's not as fun of course, but it does help provide a little fun/actions for the playoffs. I've played it maybe twice and always found it kind of fun.  We could do something simple like a $5-10 buy in or something.  What do you all think?  (as I type this I'm struggling to find one, but I will).

I'd be interested but would need more info about how it works.

Won 2 of my 3 bets, so I placed a small ML bet on the Dolphins for shits n giggles. Been a close game so far. 2 INTs by Allen & 1 by Tua in the 1st quarter.

This kind of looks like it's ripped out of context. By 'we' he probably means institutional investors.

By "we", he means Wall Street-level corporate psychopaths who don't give a shit about anything but extracting as much wealth as possible from the American public. Stop simping for him. Its embarrassing.
624  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: January 07, 2024, 04:17:10 AM
On the Texans vs. the Colts, both of these teams are still considered in the hunt, correct?

The winner advances to the playoffs, which in this case, appears to be the Texans.

This was my first time watching CJ Stroud. He's certainly got some power. I don't think the Texans will get too far in the playoffs but their fans have to be happy with how things finally turned around for them this year, after years of suckiness.

Do you think you are being respectful right now? Because with that attitude, I will gladly do bloody nothing to prevent the next 5 pandemics. This means that you will get Asspox,Covid-26, Gaybola, Muffin Fever, and Goose Lumps. Do you really want Goose Lumps?

I have no choice but to apologize to the OP, because I checked his post with only one tool that I was sure could successfully detect content generated with AI, given that many people use it in the thread where AI generated posts are published. Obviously, it is a tool that no longer makes sense to use because it detects most posts as if they were created with AI.

It still makes sense, it just generates false positives from time to time. That's why in the thread I have this clause:

At least 2 of the 6 AI content detectors mentioned below must give a result of the post having a strong likelihood of containing AI-written material (with "strong likelihood" defined for each one):

1. Hive Moderation* - 70% likely to contain AI generated text or above
2. Writefull GPT Detector - 70% likely to come from GPT-3, GPT-4 or ChatGPT or above
3. Writer AI Detector - 30% human-generated content or below
4. Copyleaks AI Content Detector - 70% probability for AI or higher
5. Contentatscale AI Detector - 30% likely to be human or below
6. Sapling AI Detector - 70% Fake or above

I've found the 3 best ones to be Hivemoderation, Copyleaks & Sapling.ai... but you can't rely on just one. Ideally 3 should be used if there's any doubt whatsoever. There's also this other one I forgot to try out but apparently it does a decent job as well:

To achieve 100% accuracy check the content using Easy AI Cheker https://easyaichecker.com/

A skilled copywriter will easily "tweak" the text so that it looks more like it was written by a human. Honestly, that's what it looks like the most to me.

This also could be the case. But if the author is going through the trouble of doing some re-writing, that's OK with me personally, as it means they at least put some thought & time into it. If just one or two words are changed, they add the words "I personally believe" at the beginning, or they add extra punctuation or something cheesy, that's still bad.
627  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Michael Saylor talks about Bitcoin, and you WILL be disappointed on: January 06, 2024, 11:59:04 AM
He's certainly a controversial figure, and I don't particularly like him, but the fact is he has wormed his way into the hearts of permabull maxis everywhere. Thus, we have to accept the fact that he's here to stay.

He straddles the line between iconic leadership figure and hapless cheerleader, just as he is somewhere between brilliant corporate strategist and shrewd megalomaniac sociopath. Even if his conviction is all for show, its conviction nonetheless, and I've come around to respecting that.

Moderators don't always delete AI posts. Just look at this account; it looks like nothing will stop him from using AI. And the moderators simply turn a blind eye.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3590890

It could be because most of their posts are in Off-Topic, and maybe moderators are slow to notice or take action there. Nevertheless, these posts should absolutely be deleted as AI spam. Perhaps they will get around to it shortly.
629  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NFL Playoffs & Super Bowl Prediction Thread on: January 06, 2024, 07:31:38 AM
For the last week of the regular season, I ended up taking Buccaneers @ -4.5, Jaguars @ -3.5, and Packers @ -3.

The reason being these are all teams that absolutely need the win to advance to the playoffs. Additionally, they are all playing teams that are out of playoff contention entirely. So the thinking is they will all play extra hard to make sure they get a playoffs spot. Will be really interesting to see what happens.

I'm thinking we're going to see a Ravens vs. 49ers Super Bowl -- that would be an excellent rematch, with the Ravens having won in their last encounter -- but don't quote me on that just yet... still too many variables at play.
630  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: January 06, 2024, 07:13:03 AM

Who do you guys like for this weekend?

I'm taking:

Jags @ -3.5
Bucs @ -4.5
Packers @ -3

These are all teams that need the W to secure a playoff spot, and they are all playing teams that are out of contention.

The games I'll be watching for fun are Texans vs. Colts and Ravens vs. Dolphins. Both should be tight-scored games.
631  Economy / Reputation / Re: @Lucius accusations: is there hope for all newbies? on: January 05, 2024, 06:30:49 PM
It appears he was a bit premature with this statement:

Most AI detectors show that the OP generated the content with the help of AI

I ran it through two other detectors - ones I frequently use and suggest others use for the purposes of this thread - and they both came back as not AI-generated:

and

I wonder what other AI detectors he is referring to when he says "most." Your post would not be worthy of referencing as spam in my thread as only 1 of 3 of the best detectors says its AI text... This is because false positives indeed happen from time to time.

Having said that, I'll probably take a look at your other posts tomorrow just to be sure I didn't errantly give you the benefit of the doubt.  Cheesy

Good luck and don't be discouraged.

Just putting it out there
...

OK so it appears the actual problem is you downloaded some malware that is designed to steal passwords. I hope you ran something like Malwarebytes on your computer and got rid of it. You should just assume that all your passwords are compromised... For anything important, change your password immediately.

Here's the thing: you could also have been using a VPN to pretend your account was being accessed from somewhere else. However unlikely, we have no way of knowing what happened for sure.
...
I can't go back in time to change my ip with vpn. See the date and login info. If you thik that it's edited or something like that you can ask me in dm i can screen record refresh every page and show you.
Drop a dm if you want any further info.

That's not what I'm saying at all. You don't have to go back in time to use a VPN... Its weird that you would even suggest that. But I suppose its a moot point now.

I have shared non-blurred ip address screenshot with shasan too... If you want to know then you can ask him.

Here's the thing: you could also have been using a VPN to pretend your account was being accessed from somewhere else. However unlikely, we have no way of knowing what happened for sure.

If shasan had lent you (your account) any amount of money, you would be 100% responsible for paying him back. So even though nobody should lend to you ever from now on, I hope you at least learned a lesson about account security.
635  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mempool Observer Topic on: January 05, 2024, 07:59:38 AM
Hello I wanted to thank you all for this post where I learned many things I didn't know.

There's one thing I'm not sure about :

I read in many places that miners could "choose what transactions they resolve from the mempool" but somebody said quite loudly here that it is impossible ?

what's true and can you explain it ?

Sure. Its the mining pool operator that creates a template for which types of transactions they want included in blocks they mine. The miners working with such pools tacitly agree to such templates. If they don't agree with them, they can simply find another pool that uses a template more in line with their principles. Some mining pools allow individual miners to vote on or even set their own templates, but not all of them.
636  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: (Ordinals) BRC-20 needs to be removed on: January 05, 2024, 03:51:43 AM
The way I see it is that someone or a group of people managed to exploit an opportunity to make money by creating value out of thin air. And now, greedy people want to make money by investing in these stupid projects. These people spend millions of dollars hoping to make more millions of dollars in profit—not to hurt bitcoin or make things worse for other people. They just want to sell their bags to the next person at a higher valuation. This is how I view the current situation.

As someone who knows a lot of people who are into Ordinals & constructed marketplaces for them, knows where the funding is coming from, and understands how crypto influencooring works, this is the correct take.

But these are scenarios, which happen, could be considered an attack on the network, as they were trying to take advantage of a protocol for their own purposes, damaging this entire protocol.

What you're describing is a miner centralization problem and it has been an existential threat since the birth of the first mining pool.
637  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Shitcoin 3.0 - First Parody Token on the First Parody Blockchain! on: January 05, 2024, 03:00:38 AM
Shitcoin sales are once again FLYING. Its like old times.

https://dogeparty.xchain.io/dispenses

This is in part due to tentative plans to launch a Shitcoin DAO. The idea is that big holders of SHITCOIN will be able to meet in a special token-gated Discord server where the future of our beloved shit token will be discussed & voted upon. I am currently talking with BitcoinJake, creator of the DogeKord bot, about getting the bot up & running so we can get the ShitcoinDAO party started.

Also, a bunch of bounty hunters had their supplies sold. Hope they still have access to their Dogewallet.

The only failures here are the stupid losers like you who are too f@#$ing stupid to realize that I am using cryptocurrency technologies not only to solve the most important scientific problem, but I am the only one who is using such technologies to prevent the next pandemic. It is really sad that I cannot build a community out of a desire to prevent the next pandemic. Yes. People are that bloodthirsty that they would rather see the next pandemic than think and actually do something about it. How sad!

You could be totally right. Every claim you're making could turn out to be true. However, nobody will want to work with you given your extremely poor attitude and borderline psychotic behavior. Its completely unprofessional and uncompelling. Therefore, you have doomed yourself and the future of your project. For as smart as you claim to be, its a pity you haven't yet figured this out.
639  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Inverse Cramer Strikes Again on: January 05, 2024, 02:46:31 AM
I know how cherry-picking works for humour.

It's not at all "cherry-picking." Its a long-standing, well-documented behavior that is consistent & powerful enough for fund managers to have opened an Inverse Cramer Tracker ETF. People are regularly betting millions that Cramer will continue to be a reverse indicator, even when it comes to his calls on Bitcoin.

This of course offsets the Inverse Cramer phenomenon, albeit only slightly.

"Cherry picking" would be looking at only one subset of data and coming to a conclusion. I am talking about the fact that he has more wrong calls than right calls since 2008.

Given it wasn't that long ago you sent me a barrage of PM's

OK so it turns out it was over three years ago!  Roll Eyes  Not only that, it turns out the issue wasn't even really about "manipulating the DT system."

@digaran hope you learned a thing or two about why you shouldn't open frivolous flags based on non-evidence.
