621  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The general public still doesn't understand Bitcoin is still growing on: January 01, 2024, 02:15:33 PM
How do we educate people that Bitcoin is a continuously growing global currency that is still in its early staged and each big boom and crash is just its early growing pains? Its just crazy to me that people see Bitcoin becoming more and more valuable and its much much more valuable than the few thousand dollars it was worth when they likely first heard about it in 2017 and yeah they all think it was just a bubble that has passed and they missed out and there's no reason in paying attention to it or owning it now. And then of course they'll be surprised in 2024/2025 when they start hearing about Bitcoin again but then by 2026 when the next bear market hits they'll forget all about the past market cycles and go back to thinking oh it was a bubble and is now dead.
The internet has a lot of material about Bitcoin for anyone who cares to invest in the sector. That is why we are encouraged to do our research. Most of the books that have been written are authored by humans that has emotions and limitations. Some of these authors are sponsored by forces that are against Bitcoin to right rubbish about the sector. Others claim to be crypto experts when they know nothing about the industry. We just have the responsibility of educating people who are interested in Bitcoin but they have the responsibility to do their research.

And what they saw with FTX was the market crash and not Bitcoin or even the altcoins. Maybe later, there will be a market that experiences something similar, and they will also think the same thing. We can't educate them if we don't want to learn the truth. So leave them like that until they really realize it.
FTX case was a collapse of a firm and not a crash of the crypto market. The company was managed by a group of inexperienced individuals who misused the money of investors. It was nothing but a clear scam case and has nothing to do with the crypto market

624  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's about time the USA found out that the BTC doesn't revolve around them on: December 31, 2023, 12:02:42 AM
I think it's about time the USA found out that the world doesn't revolve around them. They cannot and will not ever control Bitcoin.

We are done with Bitcoin ETFs. We do not care if it's approved or not. We use BTC as a means of freedom from the US dollar.
Bitcoin is indeed decentralized making it very difficult to control by any institution or government. But this doesn't dispute that the US crypto market is the biggest and most influential. Currently policies by US regulators always significant impact on the price of Bitcoin. The common truth is that the Bitcoin ETF is one of the biggest upcoming events in the crypto industry and almost every investor or trader is anticipating the positive impact it will have on the price of Bitcoin. As we are all aware Bitcoin's survival is not dependent on any event because they.will come and go. However, we will always enjoy the freedom and privacy that this currency offers.
625  Other / Archival / Re: Generational wealth on: December 30, 2023, 11:49:25 PM
What would be your advice for a pharmacist hoping to create generational wealth in the pharmaceutical industry
I will assume that the generational wealth you mean is the transfer of riches from one generation to another. The first thing you should do is do comprehensive research about the pharmaceutical sector you intend to invest in to ascertain if you have the right qualifications to venture into such areas. I think the pharmaceutical industry will have areas that deal with drugs and vaccines. A business plan will also help to determine how profitable the business might be in the long run.

If your target is to create such kind of wealth, teaching your next of kin or offspring how to manage businesses will also be very important in building a profitable business. If you have the intention of transferring the business to your children, they should be trained on how to manage the company because we have seen many heirs to big businesses mismanage them. However, the business can also be managed by a good management company and your offspring might be given some percentage of the firm's profit.
626  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: December 30, 2023, 11:30:49 PM
Juventus won and they are now +12 from 4th spot.

That is the 1st target of the season, ending in Champions League zone.
It was a tight game against Roma but the good news is that Juventus got the maximum three points. I was pleased with the attacking football by both sides because it made the game entertaining. It is common to see Jose Mourinho unleashing a defensive strategy that will make them park busses, but this was not the case in this game. I have missed Juventus in the Champions League and it is clear that they are becoming unstoppable to grab a top-four finish this season.

But who knows if they can win the Seria A because they are just two points below the league leaders inter Milan. Massimiliano Allegri deserves all the accolades for his love and determination to rebuild Juventus after that club faced many challenges last season. Their next game will be against Salernitana, a team that got an away win today against Verona.

629  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Should mentally unstable people be allowed to gamble? on: December 28, 2023, 10:03:32 AM
And for the record depression as you had defined as a mental disorder is actually not correct as you had defined it. According to the Wiktionar-Dictionary defined depression as  (psychology) In psychotherapy and psychiatry, a state of mind producing serious, long-term lowering of enjoyment of life or inability to visualize a happy future. There was no mention of a mental disorder.

We're all here to learn and it should also delight you to know that I have learnt new ideas from your Op post but that being said we still have to sharpen some edges and not agree to all things uniformly.
I am glad both of us have learned from this thread and we are also aspiring to understand more. The process of brainstorming is filled with claims and counterclaims. But is inappropriate to base an argument on just a definition. The term "do your research" means gathering information from different sources, analysing them and reaching a conclusion. Don't also expect to have the exact words in a definition before you can dictate a relationship. If you just do a quick search on Google about types of mental disorders, I can guarantee that 60% of the results you will get will include depression. Even in your definition, it includes that are depressed person is prone self inflicted injuries and suicide (are these states mentally stable). The field of mental health is broad, you and I need to take a course on it to be able to gain foundational knowledge.
630  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Should mentally unstable people be allowed to gamble? on: December 28, 2023, 08:02:24 AM
Mentally deranged or unstable persons are well known for their violent behaviors of causing harm to others, they don't work for money neither have a sense to gamble for money but this man from the op does the opposite which makes me count him as not mentally unstable but as someone suffering from a depressive condition from life's challenges that had overwhelmed him making him to care less of himself
I don't think it is all mentally unstable people that are violent. I also feel that the ability to work and gamble is not a yardstick to conclude that somebody is sound. Many emotionally unbalanced people still work and are not violent.
Alright, they may not all be that violent but still normal people won't feel comfortable occupying same space with them knowing that this person has a mental health problem.  And one more thing @fiatless, a depressed person isn't same as a mentally unstable person, the two conditions are entirely a different health issues, so a depressed person can still work and not be violent but I don't think this can be true with a mentally unstable person. He's mental so what sense has he to work ?
I don't understand your point of argument because you keep contradicting your former stance. You stated in your former post that mentally unstable people are violent and might not have the ability to earn a living and gamble. There was no time you made any effort to distinguish the type of mentally unstable people you were referring to when you generalized that they cannot work and are all violent. You never said anything about discomforting other gamblers, and neither did I mention any of the concept of depression. Come to think of it depression is a mental disorder and some of the cardinal signs of this condition (especially in extreme conditions) are anger and aggression which is the root cause of violence.

However, I think I have learned some lessons from this thread which include that everyone has the right to gamble as much as his presence doesn't cause discomfort to other gamblers and the casino management deems them fit. Also, we shouldn't judge a person's mental state by merely looking at their physical appearance. And it seems that most terms of service of many gambling platforms are silent on this issue. It is also evident that some national laws might not have covered this area.
631  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Microstrategy Acquires 14,620 Bitcoin, Don't get carried away. on: December 28, 2023, 07:12:21 AM
What do you think?
Unlike Elon Musk who has been inconsistent in his support of Bitcoin, Michael Saylor is a strong believer in the cryptocurrency. He has been one of the vocal voices speaking up for the sector even in times of fierce attacks. I am not surprised Microstrategy is still buying because the firm has the backing of someone who believes in the potential of Bitcoin. People keep asking if it is too late to buy Bitcoin, but I think this news is a good response to them that it is never too late because Bitcoin has so much future potential.

Don't trust them. They will sell their bitcoins in future.

They are a strong investor and strong hodler but they will sell bitcoins in future.
Does anyone intend to hodl Bitcoin forever? I think Bitcoin investors will sell the coins when they get to the predicted price in the future. Every investor intends to make a profit, hence it is not out of place for Microstrategy to sell and make money in the future.
632  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: December 28, 2023, 06:25:35 AM
Chelsea is my club but the performance, I would say they're more comparable to any random mediocre club in EPL this season. Mauricio Pochettino is not to be blame if Chelsea players misses crucial chances of scoring. They has everything to make the game 4 nil but wasteful all the chances and the little chances creates by Ayew and Olise, they nets a stunning goal to equalize the game. Chelsea have one of the very stellar performance against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge and they failed to make the supporters even more prouder ans happier. Noni Maduake and Myhailo Mudryk are on the scores board.
Chelsea has not settled its attacking problems. I thought that with the recovery of Christopher Nkunku, they would be able to maximize the goal opportunities they always create. It is sad to see a team that plays good football and has all possession, yet always lose games. Maybe we can assume that Nkunku needs more time to recover and fit into the games but the club don't have so much time. They are stuck at 10th position and might end up losing the vision of making it to the top four position.

To be honest, I enjoyed yesterday's match between Manchester City and Everton as well. Both teams take their games very seriously, and Everton's opening goal had me wondering if Manchester City really wanted to lose this one again. However, after looking back, I realised that Manchester City is a team that never gives up. Folden's first goal was absolutely fantastic, and the team scored two more goals to make it three. Manchester City showed Everton that they were returning to the top of the league, and I think Pep Guardiola will do everything in his power to ensure that they do, unless Arsenal and Liverpool also refused to give up.

Manchester City remains a strong contender for the EPL title. They recovered from one goal down after the defensive blunder that gave Everton the lead. The equalizer was an excellent strike from Phil Foden and the team kept putting pressure on Everton until they got two more goals. With 37 points and an outstanding match, the Cityzens still have great potential to give Liverpool and other top a hot chase.
633  Economy / Economics / Re: Sometimes tips the securities at the mall or local shops on: December 27, 2023, 08:36:42 AM
I haven't worked as a security before, but from my observations, I would say the securities are really doing a pretty good job. Securing whatever we go to the mall, we keep an eye on shoplifters to avoid thefts and nuisances. Personally, I am scared of that kind of job because you have to sign an agreement that stipulates that anything could happen while you are on duty, and only your family will be compensated on your behalf if it eventually leads to death. But I see those guys do their jobs with passion and happiness.
These days technology does much of the security jobs. There are CCTV cameras and censors in almost all major shops or malls. Security personnel might not be inside the mall because they are in the security room watching the store through the CCTV screens. Since most of them are not permitted to have firearms in my country, they are not expected to confront armed robbers. They should take cover like other staff or shoppers in case of such violent attacks.

Quote
When we walk into a mall, I believe they are the first person we see, and I have seen most of them with a lovely smile and welcome message. While you are leaving as well, they say goodbye and thank you for shopping with us. Don't you think they are worth tipping? Sometimes we should tip them and appreciate them for their services because it is not an easy one and their salaries are low as well. Tipping them will help solve some other needs, or if they have a family, it will help provide extra money for the family.

They are trained to be nice to customers so they are just doing their jobs. They might lose their job if they are not respectful or friendly to the customers. These workers are underpaid mostly in developing nations where the minimum wage laws are not enforced. In developed nations, they are well paid based on the stipulated remuneration benchmark for such jobs. Giving them tips is optional because the economic situation is also affecting everyone adversely.
634  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How many hours is the best time for a gambler to last while gambling? on: December 27, 2023, 08:03:58 AM
In my opinion,  the more time one decides to spend on gambling, the more money they lose. For example, if I spend like one hour gambling and another gambler spends like six hours gambling, which one of us do you think will spend more money?
The person who will lose more is not determined by the number of hours spent at the casino. The amount used for the game will also determine how much you can lose within a specific period. Somebody can lose thousands of dollars in a few minutes while another person who has been in the casino for six hours might have just lost a few hundred. Another factor could be the level of skills and how lucky the person might be. A skilful gambler might spend less even when he has spent so much time.

Quote
So the question again is: how many hours do you gamblers think are more appropriate to spend while gambling?
The amount of time I spend gambling depends on my schedule, how much I have and how fast I win or lose. My best gambling time is weekends when I don't go to work because I have more free time. But there are times I don't have much spare time on weekends so I have to spend limited time. Immediately after I have exhausted the money budgeted for the day's game, I will end gambling for the day. But I might keep gambling if I am lucky and keep winning. Generally, I don't see gambling as an important activity, so I just assign some of my time for leisure to it.
635  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Is binance doing a any giveaway? on: December 27, 2023, 06:14:22 AM
Maybe you should contact the Binance support service to confirm if the message is fake or real. There has been an increase in phishing scams so you have to be careful. You have to check the email/message carefully to see if it is coming from Binance because it might be fake. Ensure you don't click on any link in the message or provide any sensitive information such as password to them. I don't use Binance maybe members that use the platform might give better advice.
636  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tips to avoid compulsive thoughts related to anxiety on: December 27, 2023, 05:50:13 AM
Feel free to share any tips if you have them.  Cool
Thank you, OP for your write-up that identified anxiety as one of the triggers of gambling addiction. I have indeed learned from this information.

The problem is that many people who are going through gambling disorder will never acknowledge that they have a problem. They will give you every reason why they are okay and don't need help. Now when they believe they are okay, it will be difficult to help them. Most of your words are true but many factors will limit these gambling addicts from accessing the needed help in my location.

Most countries don't have access to the right materials that will offer them the needed help. I heard the OP talk about how he visits his local library to get needed materials. We don't have a functional library in the entire region where I stay. Our only source of information is the internet and this channel is filled with junk. We have so many people on the internet parading themselves as professionals, meanwhile, they have no qualifications or experience.

Our next problem is the lack of qualified addiction therapists. You will hardly see any seasoned counsellors in my area, maybe this might be because the field is not lucrative so most of them have diversified to another profession to make a living. You can only access this therapist in big cities which are very far from my location

Poverty or low standard of living caused by bad economic conditions is another shortcoming. When the economy is bad people don't care about addiction because they see gambling as a major source of income. Even when they want to get help, many of them don't have the money to pay qualified gambling counsellors. The government is doing nothing to help gambling addicts, so they are left to suffer from these problems.
637  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reports emerge suggesting Mt. Gox creditors are receiving repayments on: December 27, 2023, 05:11:59 AM
Creditors of the long-defunct Bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox have reportedly started to receive fiat repayments for their Bitcoin, which had been trapped on the exchange since February 2014, according to numerous reports across social media.
Great news and good work from the trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi. I was thinking they will still postponed the payment for they third time. But it good to see that these creditors are receiving funds after waiting for this long. They might have made some profit but some persons might have died before the release of this funds which means they have lost all. This is a reminder to everyone to be careful of centralised platforms.

My speculation: If Mt.Gox paid all they owes, I think this will give a good impression for people to trust more in centralized exchanges because they will think it's safer as the coins can be recovered than non custodial wallet where you lose your seed phrase, it's gone. Tongue
Your speculations are correct this news will encourage people to keep large sums in centralised exchanges because they have a hope of recovering the funds. But this case is just one out of many exchanges that have gone bankrupt and many people lost money that they will never recover. And how many people will be willing to wait for ten years before having access to the money they Invested?
638  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA World Cup 2026 :Canada/Mexico/United States: Discussion Thread on: December 26, 2023, 05:07:30 PM
I am not sure what impact the new coach will have on the performance of the Brazilian national team. Their poor performance in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and also during the CONMEBOL World Cup qualification tournament so far can be attributed to imbalance in the team and overdependence on certain players. Even if Carlo Ancelotti becomes the coach, what he can do about it? And the recent injury issue with Neymar also contributed a lot to their poor form. These are things beyond Ancelotti's control.
Nobody should expect Carlo Ancelotti to perform miracles in the Brazilian national team. He will need time to study the players and build the team to become more standard. The Italian is known for integrating young players with experienced ones like we are currently seeing in Real Madrid. The 2024 Copa America will be a big test for the current Real Madrid coach if he is finally hired by the Seleção Canarinha.

I don't think the Brazilian national team is still depending on players like Neymar. For the past three years, the Brazilian international career has taken a downturn due to injuries. Young players like Raphinha, Rodrygo, Vinícius Júnior, and Gabriel Martinelli can easily prove the quality they are worth in Neymar's absence.  Ancelotti have refused to refute the news that he might move to Brazil but it seems he is more focused on his current job making him unable to speak of his future.
639  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Could newbie ask their unsolved crypto related questions ? on: December 26, 2023, 06:02:12 AM
Recently I have registered my account and read a lot of sinior member post to increase knowledge about Bitcoin,Altcoin and crypto currency. But sometimes I face many unknown topics, short forms and words too for that reason I can't achieve deep knowledge and I stuck . Maximum time I solved those from Google and dictionary but not go in deep.so if I stuck any problem could I ask here please acknowledge me .For example: FOMO ,how it is interrupt treading ?
The crypto space is vast and versatile and you need to keep learning and relearning. Just like other fields, there are many terms or concepts that you have to learn before you will begin to understand the space. You will keep using Google as much as you want to learn and you can also use the search option of the forum. Newbies can ask questions because this forum is a free one where both old and new members can gain knowledge. But before you ask such a question you should first do research within the forum and if possible outside the forum. This is important because asking very trivial questions might not be proper.
640  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: It is you who can't stop betting. on: December 26, 2023, 04:53:19 AM
Happy Christmas to all gamblers. I have been reading some threads and comments that many people have been saying that they find it very difficult to stop gambling (not only gambling addicts), but on one hand, I really think that it is not hard to quit gambling even when you are winning and not winning, but it is you who can't control yourself. Bets can not force one to stake, but a gambler can force themselves to stake a bet, even when he or she does not have money to bet. Some gamblers did not learn how to gamble. They just see themselves doing it, but they can't stop it. Why because they can't control themselves, even when they are not an addicted gambler?
What do we have to say about this?
I am not sure you have experienced any form of addiction because if you have I don't think you will just come up with this post. The post looks like gambling addiction could be easily overcome but maybe these individuals just choose to be addicted. I don't think any addict is happy about his inability to control his gambling activities. Most people are adopting several strategies to reduce the rate of gambling but it has not been fruitful. I can tell you that addicts are going through alot and it is not easy to break free from a behavior that you are used to. You will always have that strong desire or drive to gamble even when you have vowed never to gamble again.

But I share the same view that winning addiction depends more on you than anyone else. We need to develop a strong desire to overcome gambling addiction and do everything possible to avoid over gambling. We can achieve much by having a gambling budget, avoiding friends or activities that motivates us to gamble uncontrollably and we could also seek the guidance of a addiction therapist if we need more help..
