I have couple of questions around this project and I hope someone would be able to help. How are the people paid for sharing the content saved on their system? In other words when they are seeders, do they earn coins from this? Also, if this legal, I mean one can have all sorts of pirated info and could be sharing via vTorrent. How does this work?
How safe is our system when we share such contents?
How much is the earning from sharing contents by acting as seeder?

as far as we know, buying and selling prices are set by individuals. as long as people use this for legal sources of media, files, etc, any pirated materials are down to those individuals. the cops or rights owners would go after them personally.

Actually, the size of piece I stated here is only related to the way BitTorrent protocol works, by slicing up different size of torrent file in pieces and have each pieces verified by leacher's client using the SHA1 algorithm against the seeder's piece after each pieces is transferred, for example with 512kb piece size, 700mb would be divided into 1,400 pieces, piece size is the key that can make a torrent seeded on a slow connection scale well.
There is actually no theoretical limit for the bandwidth or file size that our network can handle at any given moment.
Moreover, each pieces of torrent file is unrelated to each transaction on VTR network, all of the transactions made to each seeders will be in micropayment channels which most of the transaction will be off-chain, and hence there should be no bloat issue for the VTR blockchain to handle.

These two days I had short conversations with pnoch. He's now outside Thailand to attend a conference, but will be back in a few days. Please give your suggestions on which coin do you think our new fork should be based on. I will work 6 days in a row and I have Wednesday and Thursday off. Hey dev, if you are still doing zero coin intergration, and you DO have working torrents on the chain, I put it to you as long as you produce working code, why not do a swap 1/1 and add 10% to the supply for your self, I don't think anybody would mind if you were to take the extra coins, but you must produce the code.
This silence has gone on too much now.
We all see the potential marketcap of this, given the way crypto is now this would be a top ten coin.

Should vtorrent wish to monetize/legitimise their work and business model, a similar legal agreement with the industry will have to be made.
It's a must do, a legal agreement will boost the value of vTorrent, and who doesn't want that ?! I hope the team makes a priority out of this. Yes. The .8x "classic" client will become community-supported and carry the pirate stuff, while .9x will be the DMCA-approved content sharing client. if people decide to upload pirate content, that's down to them - they carry the risk. As long as people are able to upload legal content they own and control, the network is just that - a legal network. |

Shadowcash, which this wallet's code is based on, rebranded and refocused their target market for this reason. Bittorrent = legal Bitcoin = legal ZCash = legal I'm struggling with the legal hurdles you are trying to say need to be confronted. This project is indeed still being actively developed.
Due to nature of BitTorrent sharing, we have been experimenting with the possibility of migrating ZEC's zero-knowledge to VTR core to improve users anonymity and try to do without needing of reseting the current chain.
vTorrent 0.9.1z will be the first version to incorporate the zero-knowledge protocol and if resetting the chain is needed, there could possibly be a fork of vTorrent-Classic running by community keeping the 0.8.x chain.
There are some other plan along with this new chain, which is still being in discussion in our team.

At the very least I think we can all agree the dev must realize how much control he can have over the price of VTR, depending on how he crafts his next project announcement/reveal/news/etc. Whether it's vapor or real, whether he's dedicated or lazy, he still can make this do a x10-x20 easily with a single post. This can be done even if this project was never real and the tech doesn't exist - just make some claims, provide some confidence/expectations and off we go. Add some screenshots or a video and x20-x100, again, easily faked even if this is vapor.
The dev logs in every day from what I can tell, he reads this thread regularly, and as we've seen pipes in every now and again to let us know he's not completely gone. With all of this in mind, why would this die without at least one exit pump? The wait may suck, but the risk/reward ratio is too good to pass up.
They probably got a bunch of investors who have asked them to delay release of information so they buy up dumps from people fearing the worst or those that give up too quickly. |

it's pretty obvious what is happening here. The coin has had these random spikes for months but overall the price has fallen. What we're seeing is the coin supply changing hands from weak holders to the dev and his friends. Dev is purposely trying to make the coin look like vaperware to get the price to fall so he can accumulate (remember, he didn't have any ico). Every now and then he spikes the price to get rid of bagholders (the above poster is a perfect example of how this tactic works). Rinse and repeat until they've got enough coins to get insanely rich when they drop the torrent functionality.
Could well be true, but they've had over 2 years to accumulate at much lower prices and they hold a 3% premine. Also, if the coin is to have any success once torrents are dropped there needs to be some kind of distribution of the coin. If they were looking at getting rich quickly they could have pumped it earlier. I agree, they had years to accumulate at extremely cheap prices. But then there is always the chance that they sold into every single spike and now need to repurchase those dumped coins. Could be true, you never know. They have had the new 0.8.2.1 wallet ready for months.  Looks like they are withholding releasing it for a reason, despite saying it would be released earlier this year. So they have a working implementation of bittorrent, and so they are manipulating the market. |

Guy is on holiday and logged in to let us know he ain't gone awol. Like I said he is not a scammer but the price rises and falls based on his lack of updates and now even if he logs in or not. That's a shit place to be, especially when you've backed him with everything you've got and then borrowed even more. At the moment the outcome of my life revolves around scraps of information. |
