621  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Scammer lead developer resigns from honeypot Wasabi Wallet on: January 26, 2024, 05:06:41 AM
Wouldn't it be more likely for all privacy minded users to abandon Wasabi entirely? Even if the current bad reputation isn't enough, that will end the moment it's bought by a blockchain analysis company.
The "privacy minded users" are not their target. Instead their target is the majority who don't really understand how to improve their privacy and are too lazy to do any research so they end up in a honeypot like Wasabi wallet.
That's more than enough for a blockchain analysis company to get ahead in the competition and make a ton of money selling its services to bitcoin businesses who are forced by the authorities to subscribe to such malicious services.

In my opinion the danger Wasabi poses which needs to be emphasized is not to its own users, it is to other privacy oriented projects and also to privacy in general.

Think of this scenario: a user who mixes their coin using anything but Wasabi (like centralized mixers, other CoinJoin implementations, etc.) has their transaction rejected and their account restricted by a centralized service they're using (like a CEX). But users who use Wasabi don't face the same problem since the blockchain analysis company knows their coins origin and has the "link" which they provide authorities.
They start complaining on the internet and start being advised to use the Wasabi (they honeypot) because they didn't have their coins seized when using Wasabi.

Before you know it the number of users of real privacy improving tools fall, their volume falls too making CoinJoin and mixing harder while making banning them a lot easier and less costly for centralized services making those services comply more willingly.
622  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if you plan to buy BTC for big money: Would you reuse a tested address? on: January 25, 2024, 05:25:56 AM
Or would you trust the wallet's algorithm and use a new address, even if you buy for a lot of money?
Your question answers itself in a way because of the contradiction inside of it.

If you are worried about the "wallet's algorithm" when generating a new address then you should also be worried about that wallet in general when doing a lot of other things such as signing your transaction, generating the first key in first place (ie. having used a weak RNG) and stuff like that.
This means you should not even be using that wallet if you don't trust its security. Testing it once with any amount is not going to be enough to trust it.

The solution is first find an old and trusted wallet that has been around for a very long time, is used by a lot of people and also had its code reviewed by enough developers to not have such serious bugs in such basic functionalities like generating keys, addresses and handling transactions. Something like bitcoin core or electrum.
623  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Spot ETFs approved, Bitcoin is not fraud. Where is Jamie Dimon? on: January 25, 2024, 05:16:07 AM
But does Jamie Dimon hate Bitcoin? YES because the "idea of Bitcoin" is a threat to legacy finance. Is he stupid in anything about Bitcoin? YES, this man is absolutely misinformed.
Fair enough.
Regarding this part about such people "hating bitcoin", I'm not so sure. It is a possibility but it may also be that they just see Bitcoin as another tool to fill their pockets. Right now it benefits them to spread FUD about it and it could change in the future.

Remember Musk? He did this in reverse. It benefited him to praise Bitcoin while it was going on and he had a stake in it and was making profit but when the profit stopped and he wanted to exit, he started spreading FUD. Then he did the same with a shitcoin called Dogecoin and made some money there too.

I'm almost certain that if JPM were allowed to open bitcoin accounts (like they do bank accounts) for customers and they saw a profit there, Dimon will start praising Bitcoin. After all it is all about making money for this type of people.
624  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Mempool fees and Solutions on: January 25, 2024, 04:06:26 AM
The Ordinal hype is still there but somehow the mempool fee is considerably down now. You may get the low to medium priority in 27-28sat/byte and this number looked like a dream few weeks/days before. Although it is not so low but still now we can make the transactions if we were waiting for the low mempool fees and those pending transactions now can be executed.
This spam attack has always had its ups and downs. It may be because of the scam market, since that is how they have been able to sustain the attack.

Like any other market (eg. the altcoin pump and dumping market) it has ups and downs meaning times where more newbies are falling for the scam and try to buy that garbage in hopes of making a profit hence increasing the "volume" and the number of on-chain spam.
But after being scammed, losing money, etc. they go away and the "volume" comes down which means less Ordinals Attack on Bitcoin therefore the small drop in fee rate.

However, just like the pump and dump altcoin market, this scam market is not going to die as long as there are newbies and gamblers who would buy the junk hoping to make a profit.
This is why as long as the exploit in the Bitcoin protocol is not fixed, this attack will continue and fees will spike.
625  Economy / Economics / Re: How will the BRICS currency influence Bitcoin? on: January 25, 2024, 03:56:54 AM
since the noughties, such events have OFFICIALLY taken place:
- Signing of bilateral agreements on joint work between Russia and NATO
- Putin personally voiced the idea of Russia joining NATO (easy to find - the truth cannot be deleted).
- Since 2003 Russia has opened several NATO bases in the framework of cooperation with NATO and provided them with all necessary assistance. The most famous base is the NATO base in Ulyanovsk, a major NATO transportation hub in Russia. Which was allegedly threatened by NATO. When you are making up lies, try to do your favorite "job" more qualitatively  Grin
You can always interpret history however you like but it won't change facts Grin

Russia, like a lot of other countries, decided to eliminate the colonizers' threat by joining the globalization bandwagon. That meant begging to join NATO, the economic relations with Europe that included selling them super cheap gas, etc. Sooner or later they all realize the colonizers don't want to add new members, like the truth Turkey faces over and over including recently when they outright told Turkey that "they're not worth it and can never join EU"!

It's funny how you had nothing to say about other threats I mentioned in my tiny comment regarding history and could only come up with the NATO related propaganda Cheesy
626  Economy / Economics / Re: How do you consider the prospects of global economy in 2024? on: January 24, 2024, 03:50:31 PM
There will be no war. Uncle Sam already stated they're not going to support Taiwan.
One can only hope so because I don't think the global economy can endure the consequences of the US proxy war with China.
However, they've said this before too. With pretty much the same language too "We don't support independence" but then they sent Pelosi to Taiwan and increased weapons sale!

Translation: Sorry guys, we don't have enough money to support you. We gave away too much money and military aid to Ukraine and Israel so you're now on your own. Nothing personal, just business.
That's true but remember that they weren't bored in Washington one day that they decided to start this proxy war. They were seeking to contain China and significantly damage its economy and expansion. If they don't start that war, China will continue getting bigger. This proxy war is not something US can postpone!

Chances are, the Republicans are going to win in the US. Which means the war is going to stop (no chances for Ukraine without US support).
I don't think this is a Republican/Democrat thing, there are certain things that everyone in US regime agrees on. They may only have different approaches and in some details.
The NATO vs Russia thing is the same as NATO vs China thing. They have certain goals they won't stop without achieving some of them at least.

All wars end with a negotiation but for NATO (which is basically US dictating everything of it) to enter negotiation phase they have to have some advantage or have some wins on the battlefield. So far they have none otherwise they've been trying to get there. In fact the largely advertised "counter attack" months ago was supposed to be that "win" they needed. Ukraine was supposed to gain some ground defeating Russia in some fronts then they could start negotiating a truce and hope to stop the invasion by having some advantage over the Russians.

What can they do now though? What advantage does NATO have over Russia? The counter attack failed because Ukrainians listened to US/NATO and postponed it so much that Russia fortified its positions making any counter attack impossible.
And at the same time Russian advances is getting faster these days (some say at 2x the normal speed and it is winter). They can't negotiate anything with Russia at this point since they have nothing to bring to the negotiation table. Russia will demand a lot and the smallest one would be complete withdrawal of NATO from Russian borders. That term alone means they can't end the war with Russia regardless of who is the POTUS!

P.S. Don't be fooled by Trump's advertisement when he says "he will end the war if he wins". He was saying the same exact thing in his previous advertisement and about ending the war in Afghanistan and exiting there too if he won. Years later his own defense secretary colonel Miller said it was all bullshit Cheesy
627  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What do you think about the freedom of speech in the USA? on: January 24, 2024, 02:23:29 PM
And what do you think about the freedom of speech in the USA? How massively are the Trumpists blocked in the media? And do the Trumpists support the censorship in their media, which is consistent with their views?
Freedom of speech has pretty much the same definition everywhere: You are allowed to say things that the regime likes, otherwise it will be silenced.

The only difference is their methods of silencing it and what the regimes doesn't like aka the "red lines".

For example in US the red line doesn't seem to be about supporting or not supporting a president (previous or incumbent). This is why you can freely find a lot of content pro and against both the incumbent president (Biden) and the previous one (Trump).
In Russia this may be different and the red line could be any content against the incumbent president (I'm guessing based on your comment) hence Russia censors anti-Putin content in their platform.

Obviously for a lot of reasons these "red lines" are different in different countries.
In my opinion the best and most recent example of the true meaning of "Freedom of Speech" in United States is the medieval style inquisition of presidents of 3 universities (Harvard, MIT, UPenn) by the Congress just because some students protested and wanted the genocide of Palestinians to stop. Or the arresting of hundreds of Jews in USA just because they protested against Israel.
628  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Spot ETFs approved, Bitcoin is not fraud. Where is Jamie Dimon? on: January 24, 2024, 01:54:56 PM
It's how Jaime Dimon, who's truly a smart banker who saved J.P. Morgan during 2008 Financial Crisis
Did he really? As far as I know the government had to bail the banks out because if they hadn't the banking system and their own economy would have fallen apart. Maybe he is really smart to run such an elaborate scam and get away with it Wink
629  Economy / Economics / Re: How will the BRICS currency influence Bitcoin? on: January 24, 2024, 05:40:20 AM
Yeah, sure, autocratic states like russia and China are choosing to become a commonwealth. That is ridiculous. All of their policy is build around the idea of opposition to the Western world. Both in terms of values, religiously and traditionally, as well as military and economically. Moreover, they don't have an agreement about those issues within themselves as well. And the only thing that joins those countries is the above mentioned opposition to the Global West.
A common enemy has always been a good reason for creating coalitions, even short term ones. If you check the history of each of these countries, their main threat has always been the "West". Off the top of my head I can name some of them like Napoleon threat to Russia in the 1800's, Nazi threat to Russia in 1900's and NATO threat to Russia in 2000's. British threat to China in 1800's (Opium Wars) to today's NATO threat to China through Taiwan.
630  Economy / Economics / Re: How do you consider the prospects of global economy in 2024? on: January 24, 2024, 04:39:39 AM
Another important thing to consider this year is that 2024 is the year of elections. There are a bunch of elections that could change the course of the world this year.

For example the elections in Taiwan that was in January 13. I don't follow that closely but some summaries from reliable source I read say those who won, moved China and Taiwan a big step closer to war. We know that this war would affect the global economy and the size experts suggest is $10 trillion.

Other important elections are US presidential elections in November, Russian presidential election in March both of which could affect the proxy war going on between NATO and Russia and consequently the economy.
And of course a lot of other countries that are seeing significant changes in their political scene (like in Europe) moving towards more "radical parties" that are making more radical decisions for their country which makes things unpredictable.

631  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Israeli-Gaza War: The biblical History and the Sentiments of the West. on: January 24, 2024, 04:29:12 AM
You can say all the trash without giving an abusive thought
I'm sorry you found it "abusive and trash" although I wish you were specific about which part and why instead of quoting the whole thing with an insulting comment.

besides there is no important thing you have said that is totally different from the OP post.
Are you sure you read my post at all? Your OP is about the history, I'm providing a different point of view regarding the conflict itself and the only solutions!
632  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Mempool fees and Solutions on: January 24, 2024, 04:06:26 AM
All done in prep for the 1/2 ing big changes are on the way come April.

Just study last  years fee charts as compared to any other year's
That's because of this prolonged spam attack against Bitcoin that is taking place under the codename Ordinals. It has nothing to do with halving, since those fee spikes are usually the result of the market activity where price starts rising rapidly which then attracts more people to the market who would transfer their coins to and from exchanges more often creating higher on-chain traffic. Such spikes are smaller in comparison and don't last this long.
633  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Mass BTC Wallet Generator with mnemonic and bip39 on: January 24, 2024, 04:02:11 AM
I want to search addresses similar to Vanitygen but so that I can use the 12 words in a mobile wallet or on the pc and have full access.
There is a bit of an oddity in your question. Do you mean searching for a mnemonic that starts with certain word(s) like vanitygen does to addresses or actually deriving a single child address that starts with certain characters?
There is no tool for the former and it is not efficient or useful to make one for the later.

What exactly is your goal here? Why not use a simple mnemonic generated by the usual deterministic wallets? You can use that on your "mobile and PC with full access"...
634  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Israeli-Gaza War: The biblical History and the Sentiments of the West. on: January 23, 2024, 07:42:42 AM
That was a funny take on history with a lot of mistakes but lets forget about that and let me raise some rhetorical questions.
Why should a certain religion or more accurately why should a cult (since Zionism is more of a cult than a religion) have a country? No other religion or cult has its own country!
There is no Christian State.
There is no Islamic State... oh wait there used to be and it was called ISIS or Da'esh. A multi national terrorist organization that took over other people's homes and claimed it is their "country".
But then all of a sudden we have a Jewish Zionist State under the codename Israel; a multi national terrorist organization committing genocide to take land similar to what ISIS did!!! and call it their "country".

It is also specially absurd when Zionists try to use some "ancient document" from their fake books to prove ownership on other people's homes then migrate from another part of the world (like Europe and Russia) to these people's homeland, murder their population and take their homes by force. Why stop there in history and not go further back to more ancient civilizations that lived in those lands way before Zionism was invented and their descendants today have a much stronger claim over those lands!!!

It is more absurd after you look at the origin of those in Israel "government"! They are all from elsewhere. For example the butcher of Tel-Aviv Natanyahoo is originally from Poland.
Do you know where those in democratically elected Palestinian government aka Hamas are from? All their ancestors are from Gaza.

There are only three ways to end the Israel - Gaza war.
1. Monetary compensation to Gaza to buy off the lands occupied by the Jews.
2. It is also advisable for Gaza to resort to go the international criminal court of Justice.
3. Or relinquish the political control of the territory to Gaza and ensure the gradual relocation of the people.
That's absurd. There is actually only two ways to solve this whole thing.
1) People of Palestine, regardless of their religion, have to decide democratically about their future. They can vote for it. But first, all the foreigners (ie. the Zionist occupiers) have to go back to their real homes in Europe, Russia, etc. and have no right to decide what happens to Palestine.
2) Or the alternative is war and the winner of it will decide what happens after eliminating the other side.

So far the world seem to be interested in the second option since NATO keeps arming Zionist terrorist to help genocide of Palestinians and Palestinians aren't going to go down without a fight nor are they willing to give up their ancestral homes to the invaders.
635  Economy / Speculation / Re: Post-ETF effect: Has Bitcoin Bottomed yet? on: January 23, 2024, 06:46:11 AM
I wasn't expecting a big rise after ETF since it was mostly empty hype without an actual direct and immediate effect on the price but I was expecting a small rise at the very least. With the drop out of nowhere and without reason the only conclusion is market manipulation and panic sell specially when you consider that we are at the pre-halving-period which is known to be a bullish trend!

Has it bottomed? Probably not but the dump doesn't seem to have the biggest strength to continue for that long.
636  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 1st and 2nd version on: January 23, 2024, 06:39:33 AM
coinbase.com is not Bitcoin and what you create there is not a bitcoin wallet regardless of what they may call it. You are creating an account with a centralized company that may or may not hold your real bitcoins with them with full control over your money.

With that distinction, what you are describing here is not about "bitcoin wallets" and "logging into bitcoin wallets" you are describing "hacking into a website's database". So the answer to your question is that their database is not public for you access it whether it is wallets added to it today or years ago.
637  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying houses with BTC on: January 23, 2024, 06:32:55 AM
People who make silly statements like this don't live in the real world and have never conducted any kind of business in their lives!

In the real world we have laws and courts. You can't take someone to the court and say "look we have something on the internet we call NFT and it says I own this house". That court will kick you out of the room!
You have to actually register it in that centralized government controlled database to have the ownership of that property change.

Another flaw in this silly statement is that NFTs are not unique nor secure. Anybody can create any number of them anywhere at any time. Meaning the same so called "NFT" that supposedly refers to ownership of a property could be recreated by other people at any time on any other token platform so that others can make the same exact claim on that property Cheesy

The reason is pretty simple, "smart contracts" by nature can only operate within that system. For example in Bitcoin, the smart contracts (in simple terms a bitcoin address) can only operate inside Bitcoin with Bitcoin rules, dictating who owns that coins locked up in that contract and how it can be spent. It can not be linked to anything outside the system (eg. physical property) and be enforced at the same time in outside world.
638  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: custom mnemonic wordlist to generate deterministic keys and compare to addresses on: January 23, 2024, 06:27:06 AM
What exactly are you trying to do that requires high speed? Is it some sort of brute forcing? Because in that case optimization is more complex than just using a certain programming language and a library.
639  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: custom mnemonic wordlist to generate deterministic keys and compare to addresses on: January 23, 2024, 04:31:12 AM
other special characters.
Electrum (https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/blob/master/electrum/mnemonic.py) allows you enter your own custom word list and uses that when generating your BIP32 seed without a problem and in case by "special characters" you mean stuff that are outside of UTF8 range, Electrum handles that well too since it treats all inputs as Unicode (eg. it covers emojis). It is also not strict about the word count in that list.

The rest of the stuff like generating keys at certain derivation paths, storing to disk, etc. is something you should handle yourself by writing some script on top of mnemonic.py.
640  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Explain Bitcoin to A Second Grader in Four Sentences? on: January 22, 2024, 05:28:40 PM
Bitcoin is a new and unique form of money that has no physical form (is only digital) and has a cap. You have full control of your funds and nobody can put their hands in your pocket (bitcoin wallet) taking your money (like banks and governments do with fiat currencies).

I think that's as short as it gets while telling an end user all they need to know for their "introduction" to Bitcoin.
