621  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon batch 3 ROI on: August 01, 2013, 05:07:58 PM
This ROI issue is the reason I setup a ASIC miner co-location facility.   With the unknown amount of difficulty coming online you, you need that guaranteed 1 year+ of hosting mining to make sure you get all you can from your miners.   We go live today.   First batch of hardware will be firing up very soon.

622  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: WTF Avalon? Ship the Chips! on: July 31, 2013, 03:37:33 AM
Tomorrow will make 15 weeks since I made my payment.

It's strange how $75k order does not even get you a phone number and personal account manager on Avalon's side, isn't it...

I think what's going on right now is that they have realized that they will be unable to maintain their "leader" position in ASIC development and they are trying to milk the network as much as they can delaying the shipments knowing that they will effectively decrease their network share.

And I for one hope that K&C and bitfury devices start shipping on time so then both Avalon and BFL will never ever get another customer.

Question?   How would they "milk" the network by not delivering chips that have already been paid for?
623  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KNC ROI Figures on: July 30, 2013, 10:31:21 PM
Op, there is no way you will have  KNC in hand by september. November is a more realistic start.

Nor is there any 'way' that difficulty is going to keep rising 62% each month for the next year.

It really depends on how much foolishly purchased pre-order hashing power has already been purchased.  Once ordered the hashpower will eventually be delivered causing the difficulty to keep rising long after new sales no longer make any sense due to negative ROI%.

A miner who has ALREADY bought has no reason to not mine because the purchase price is a sunk cost and difficulty would need to be > 6 billion before the electrical cost was greater than the mined coins (at current exchange rate).  So you "could" see this scenario were difficulty keeps rising and rising and rising and despite everyone saying "buying new rigs is stupid now" it keeps rising as ALREADY purchased rigs are slowly delivered.

Sounds bittersweet.  I wonder how many people will actually bang their head on a wall.  You have an interesting angle on how the slow deliveries might of maintained an artificially low difficulty rate that allowed more people to think it was a good idea to purchase new asic hardware.    Don't see any major holes in that D&T.

Just so people know, B3 units with 4 modules have shipped.

Do you accept Ripple (XRP)?
627  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ACCEPTING HARDWARE] ASIC Hosting - Electricity @0.02/Kwh on: July 30, 2013, 06:57:10 PM
I am in.

Great news.  I really believe in this as a long-term option.
628  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: BitCoin ruled illegal in Thailand on: July 29, 2013, 09:06:02 PM
All they have done is create a black market for Bitcoins.    Unforceability is the problem.
629  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Accepting Hardware] ASIC Miner Hosting (Managed) - Electricity @0.02/Kwh on: July 29, 2013, 08:57:09 PM
Thanks... i think then its best to create everything before, test it so that it runs fine and ship so you can turn it on and it mines.

What about merged mining? Did your coder look into it and was able to create something? Maybe he should check out what markm did here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=224087.0 It might be useful to work on this. Maybe bringing it forward will help your pool and markm's code, so you help each other. Merged mining seems to me like the best opportunity to maximize the mining income at the moment without having to switch coins to mine every hour. Would be a nice plus.

Yep my engineer looking into.  We currently only primarily mine with pools that offer merged mining.   As long as its assembled and you can send me the drivers or what ever is needed to run the mining function.  I will test it and then get it hashing.
630  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon F/W for inverted PWM fans on: July 28, 2013, 04:44:51 AM
If it helps, I got the 4400 RPM model from that company and I have had no issues and they all run great with the avalon OC firmware.
631  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [OPEN] ASIC Mining Host Management - Electricity @0.02/Kwh (dang!) on: July 25, 2013, 08:29:29 PM
In what form to send the miner? completely assembled burnin miner or should they be built into a 19" case?

Built into the 19" would be best for speed of getting them hashing.  Or if you send the board and the parts with details instructions on how to mount them, I can mount them for you.   Either way works, I am pretty handy with tools and computer equipment.
632  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Best Way to Power an ASIC / Free Power ? on: July 25, 2013, 05:09:40 AM
Host with us.  We have give you .02/Kwh along with proper cooling and monitoring in our custom built data-center.   I fully believe this will be part of the next step in mining.
633  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Switching off and on a powerboard from internet? on: July 23, 2013, 09:52:51 PM
I know your offer from the start. 2 things kept me away for now from your offer. The management fee, even though the power is low cost, will eat much more than in a normal datacentre. I would need to ship it out of EU into USA. I fear problems at customs.

On the other hand... at some point i need to find a solution of some kind...

Just for discussion sake, pretend your unit generates 1 BTC a day @ $100.00.   Over a months time your hosting would be $270.00 a month.  In a DC, you are looking at over $125 a month alone.   In our case, we actually manage the box and keep it online.  You would not get that from a DC.  Next, I would point out that these boxes make less over time so maybe right now it seems higher but we are hosting boxes for 1 year at a time, so in 6 months from now it will look like a good deal and you will still be hashing.  Last is cooling, we are tailoring our DC for ASIC mining so we are going to cool it more than what is required for a normal web or database server.   Something to think about, I am looking long-term when going into this and over time, I will provide much more value.
634  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: So i got my BFL 50GH+ but the fans noise ... on: July 23, 2013, 08:43:19 PM

On a serious note, make sure you get a fan that has the same RPM rating or you could damage your machine by under-speccing the fan.

Actually the key number is CFM. There can be two fans running the same RPM but one moving significantly less air because of blade pitch.

Yes, I agree.  CFM is key, but you usually see those numbers close to each other as a ratio.    Unless you have a large fan, you will likely see the higher CFM fans are Higher RPMs.    I upgraded my Avalons with some beefy server fans (4400 RPM) and have seen stable and higher hash-rates.
635  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Switching off and on a powerboard from internet? on: July 23, 2013, 08:40:28 PM
I wanted to host miners at a datacentre because of the power used. For that i wanted to use such devices: Click

Its possible to switch power on and off over the internet with it. This way i could easily restart the raspberry and the miner when something is blocking.

Since it seems overclocked boards from burnin can draw up to 100W per board i wanted to use 1500W ATX power supply per 15 boards.

I asked the provider of these devices and he claimed that only 4 of the 6 connectors can be enabled over internet and that a max of 2500W can flow through it.

This lead me to the question... can many miners be hosted at a datacentre at all? I read at the offer of a 42U-Colocation-Rack that it has max 2 x 10A: Click. For 220V that would mean a maximum of 4400W for a 42U-Colocation-Rack. Oo Am i calculated wrong? If its correct that would mean only 44 miners hosted in such a huge rack. And 40 could be theoretically pressed in one 2U-Rack.

So what to think about this now, what to do?

In case i miscalculated and its fully possible, does someone has a replacement device for european power net for enabling power over internet? One connector should at least take 1500W since thats the power supply i would plug in. I didnt find alternatives.

Take your Watts and divide by your Volts and you will get your Amps.    If they give you 20amps max at 220 then you can do a max of 4400 watts.  1U is pretty small for a miner.   In our DC, we can do 8-10 Avalons per rack as a comparison.

My question is how much Hashrate can you get per rack?   You should also ask your DC what is the temp they set the facility for.  You don't want to get into a situation where the ambient temp is normal for regular servers but too high for opitimal hashing.

In our DC (built from scratch), we are only doing ASIC so we over engineered the HVAC to keep the ambient temp under 75 degrees under full load.  In reality I am going to push it even lower.

Host with us and you will never need to hear that fan again Wink

On a serious note, make sure you get a fan that has the same RPM rating or you could damage your machine by under-speccing the fan.

637  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Hosting BFL miners at J Morgan & Associates? on: July 22, 2013, 04:18:08 PM
I have a hosting facility available for anyone who may want hosting and at a different site.   PM me for details or see my signature.
638  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Mini Rig Purchased and Hashing .... erm, so what's next??!! on: July 20, 2013, 12:39:52 AM
This sounds like a BFL shill.

Everyone knows they aren't shipping anything Smiley

He says he bought it on the secondary market. Which is possible. But, still hard to believe. Especially since you have no pictures, no hash rate proof, nothing.

I know of two units that went secondary so that is plausible.   Congrats.
639  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Batch #3 & More on: July 17, 2013, 07:52:01 PM
I am in a difficult situation...

A. I can't get a refund, because all Avalon's were bought in a group buy and some people paid 2x what we originally paid to take over shares. These people would be pretty mad if I all the sudden got a refund and they lost half their money.

B. I have paid 3 months rent and bills now at the commercial space where I have planned to host the equipment.

I hope Avalon is happy with themselves, this has been one of the worst business decisions ever for me to decide to host Avalons, due to Avalon's delays. They certainly owe it to their batch 3 customers- I hope they give back somehow, but I am doubtful that they will. Otherwise, Avalon is no different from BFL, and I will never forget about this or buy an Avalon product ever again.

Avalon got greedy and decided to jack the prices up to $10k a machine due to how much money they were making. But, since we get them 3 months late this price is unacceptable now, I don't think Avalon would pay this price themselves. I hope that Avalon and company still have a heart and realize that they screwed batch 3 customers (but again, I am doubtful we will see any recourse).

I was very jealous of your group buy. I would love to have organized something like that and was wondering how all of the escrow sellers and group buyers were handling this. I'm sorry you seem to be a bit screwed now but I still have complete faith that Avalon will make things right for batch 3 in one way or another.  Some evidence is that we have heard nothing and as we have been told, that is good news Wink

Avalon lives or dies by bitcoin and we are choosing to live or die by Avalon.  Let it ride.

I wish the Avalon team good luck in getting this batch out the door and getting back to their engineering.  I think their next gen will make kncminer, etc. look like ASIC 1.1, not ASIC 2.0 and I look forward to ordering one... if I make enough BTC back by then.

Did anyone else notice that in the photos in the latest update, the heatsinks seem much closer to the case edges??  Smaller case?  Bigger heatsinks?  Different placement? *speculates*

I have extended him an offer to host with me.   I am already committed so hopefully this will help him out.   Wanted to do something.
