6201  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First dental clinic in Budapest to accept bitcoin on: September 04, 2019, 06:00:07 PM
Is dental services so cheap in Budapest? Didn't know, btw there are really some countries where people go for that and also for hair transplant because these both service costs a lot in major countries. It's nice they accepted bitcoin, maybe a better payment way for international customers but still it will be interesting to see how much demand will be on that. You know we are happy because of bitcoin integration but sometimes it happens that this integration doesn't come with great results.
I've lived in Hungary for a while, and I also never knew people came to Hungary specifically to attend certain medical procedures, but it's actually very common. And while Hungary is not a very cheap country if you compare it to Turkey, Ukraine or Georgia, it's an EU-country with the EU quality of medical services and lower prices. I had an extreme situation with my tooth in a terrible condition and only eligible for the extraction, so I had to visit a dental clinic there. It cost me around 80 EUR, and everything was very smooth and professional.
It's good that now people can use cryptos to pay for such services.
6202  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Adoption: First Ever Bitcoin Movie Storms Chinese Cinemas In October on: September 04, 2019, 05:36:01 PM
Well, anything is better than Crypto (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYZut3DWvek&t=3s), I guess. Because this movie definitely shows that not any advertising is good advertising. However, the trailer does not show clearly the attitude to cryptos. So yeah, the woman says how banks are doing whatever they want with the money, whereas blockchain makes everything transparent. But then there's that guy laughing, and it might be that the woman is actually the villain and these people are trying to scam everyone else or something... China is not a pro-crypto country, and as long as the current government is in power, it probably won't be. So I'd be cautious about this movie, it might also be the pro-government one, even though we cannot see it at first.
6203  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoiners in Hong Kong protests? on: September 04, 2019, 04:18:32 PM
Are there Bitcoiners in Hong Kong? How is the situation over there? I believe it should be Bitcoin's time, and help protesters in collecting donations, and help move value in Bitcoin.
I am not sure people who take part in Hong Kong protests will be glad to share their thoughts. After all, the Chinese government can try to use this data to trace and repress these people, so it's somewhat dangerous. Just think how convenient it is for China, the country that's not very welcoming when it comes to cryptos, to arrest people with a combo: cryptos + protests.
But these two things are not completely unrelated. I've found the following article explaining the connection between crypto adoption and Hong Kong protests: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/hong-kong-protests-accelerating-bitcoin-184623552.html.
6204  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible to receive a donation in bitcoins? on: September 04, 2019, 04:09:05 PM
Sorry to break it to you but most people on this forum are terribly greedy.  Crypto usually attracts the type of guys that don't like to share wealth, usually the libertarian types that thing everyone rich is self made and actually did it through hard work, lol.

The members here in the forum aren't greedy at all. We are at least skeptical in these kinds of situation where someone online is asking for our compassion to help him with his financial needs the only problem is there is no part of his post the proves he is in a bad situation all we see are words but no evidence that he needs financial help from us. The way I see it is he is just trying to scam people who are weak against this acts of desperation of help. You can't really blame them for keeping there money especially in this kind of situation where until is still unbelievable.

I asked for advice. And I'm a real person and I really need help. You can connect via social network or video connection.

Look, mate. Bitcoin is a type of money. So you can expect people to give donations in BTC pretty much as if it were hryvnias or some other fiat. I'm also from Ukraine, and I get it that life can be very complicated here. There aren't many opportunities (especially for people who are older than 40), the economic situation is very unstable. But you cannot expect people to believe a post and be ready to give money to a complete stranger!
If you really need money, I suggest you share your story on various forums (I once heard a successful story of such story-sharing on Imgur), explain how it got so bad and what you've learned from it (if it was your fault), and then just leave your Privatbank card number as well as a Bitcoin address. Perhaps some people would get interested in the story, understand you and try to help.
You should also try to earn money somehow. You have a university degree in something, so you can probably something with it? Some online content (and launch a Patreon for it), private teaching, making things... I don't know, it depends on what you do. I am sorry for your loss, but you must understand that a short post from a random account is not the way to solve this problem of yours. This forum is all about trust, and there's no reason to trust a complete stranger. Moreover, this forum is not about loans and donations, it's about discussions of crypto-related events and opinions.
6205  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Shopify is now supporting Bitcoin Lightning Payment on: September 01, 2019, 07:44:51 PM
However, you need to read about this, OpenNode requires KYC now!.

I won't be using Shopify or their partner gateway for Lightning

Mass adoption surveillance or not?

fixed

I reckon this is what is going to become the trend in the future with large companies like this. Once they know that the supporting services adhere to KYC requirements, then they would be more willing to accept Bitcoin as a payment option. I can use Bitcoin with most of the local e-commerce sites, but they only accept it, if you do this through payment processors that adhere to strict KYC requirements.
But why? If these are merchants, things should be easier. When I go to the supermarket, I don't have to show my ID every time I want to buy something. In fact, I can always use cash, and nobody will know whether I am a criminal or not or whether this money is clean.
Quote
I think a lot of them are scared that their services or companies would be used as money laundering operations to "clear" dirty bitcoins and that would threaten the future of their business. We cannot blame them if their local laws and regulations stipulate certain requirements for them to accept Crypto currency payments. <Most countries only define Bitcoin as a commodity and not as a currency, so this pose a challenge to these companies.>
It's true, unfortunately, that Bitcoin is mainly considered some sort of asset or property, rather than money. Well, I think that most Bitcoin users don't consider it money as well, but money laundering has nothing t odo with it, and blaming cryptos for something fiat and banks are involved in way more often is not fair.
6206  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: RATING of TOP 20 BITCOIN SPORTSBOOKS on: September 01, 2019, 07:29:36 PM
Well there are many who have open accusations and have a feedback regarding their shady behaviour. As someone to do this kind of work, you should also consider rating such books with the accusations and how safe it is to play there.

Agree with Avirunes.

You could not just rely on a website that is making a list just for their own profit in advertising.
There must be real experience and stories to let us see who is really on the top which are answering most of their customer problems specially when there is an issue with deposits and profits.

Those ranking could just be the number of visitors and clicks for the website which could be done in an easy way paying a little money.
When compiling a rating, we use a combined approach, so this generally reduces the risk of obtaining an unfair rating.
I think it's pretty clear that your approach is a complex one since the list mainly makes sense. For one, I completely agree that Sportsbet.io belongs in the top-three websites. But the first two... They are definitely popular, but Avirunes is right about trust. BetCoin is involved in probably the most popular scam story with the jackpot. However, the owners are now different people, and the website has been working on regaining trust and reputation. As for Nitrogensports, it's also a pretty popular website, but there are two red flags for their official bitcointalk account. Take a look at this list, perhaps it can help you to take another factor into consideration: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5154971.0.
Good luck!
6207  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What's your best profitable live casino game. on: September 01, 2019, 07:21:26 PM
These days you can play online cards games and gamble with low amounts without going to real casino with high minimum bets amount. And many of us are playing these games like roulette, blackjack, dream catcher, deal or no deal and so many online games.
For me i spend a lot of time playing blackjack with low amount but i get some real profits everytime and i think because i stop playing in the right time when I'm in the top and i don't gamble with high amounts.
In your opinion what's your best profitable game and do you have a good experience with it ?
Some say that Blackjack is a skill-based game, so one can indeed maintain good profits on a regular basis if one is playing good. Honestly, I think that it's better to view casinos as entertainment rather than a way of earning money. It's interesting to make some bets, enjoy the animation and, most of all, this feeling of anticipation of the result. As for profits, I believe in jobs  Grin If I had to choose a game to make money, though, I'd choose poker, because it's definitely possible to succeed in it, and I already have some experience with it. But no, I am not good at poker. I just know that I probably could be if I set such a goal.
6208  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Suspected Bitcoin mining scam on: August 31, 2019, 03:53:06 PM
Hello everyone, I invested with Mr William Morgan he has a instagram account that goes with user name "btc_mine".
I invested with him 700$ for a month and when I had to take my profit from him I deposited 50$ as transfer fee and 25$ for MSWO and QSWO, my profit as said was 1300$ and when he was about to make the transfer he said that his mining platform requires my wallet to have 80% of my profit(1072$). I some how managed and paid him but the process got delayed by 72 hrs as It took me 3 days to manage the money.
But then he said that to get the process on pending he invested 150$, then he transferred 2250$ in nonspendable bitcoin format. And then he said that due to delay in processing I require 600$ more in my wallet.
In all this transfer process he asked my wallet id and password my wallet is empty as of now.
The non spendable 2250$ btc are also gone.
And now he is saying that I will have to deposit another 600$ in my wallet to get all the money and profit back.
Please help me I invested what I had.
You can see his profile in instagram as "btc_mine".
N
Hi, The said William Morgan has regularly shared with me the screenshots of his transactions daily and are verified on blockchain myself. His address is "1Kr6QSydW9bFQG1mXiPNNu6WpJGmUa9i1g".
He is very active on Instagram as well and has uploaded a photograph 5 mins prior only. He belongs to Romania, his watsapp no. Is +1 (610) 910-9598. But whenever I try to do video call with him he says that it causes signal interruptions in his mining farm and hence cannot pickup the call. Please can you guide me further
Okay, it's definitely a scam, and an least you now know how to spot them:
1. The conditions are too good to be true. Doubling your investment in one month with mining? Doesn't sound realistic.
2. Whenever you're shown or told that you are eligible for big amounts of money but to get it you need to deposit a "small" fee - it's a scam.
3. Instagram is not the place to look for professional miners.
4. Non-spendable is not something Bitcoin can be.
I suggest you contact the police (cyberpolice, if you have it in your country), tell them the story and everything you know about the guy (that is, of course, if mining Bitcoin is legal in your country, you should probably check it first).
6209  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Attending cryptocurrency events on: August 31, 2019, 03:41:44 PM
I'm going to a cryptocurrency event next week and am really excited to meet people who are interested in blockchain technology like me. Have you guys ever been to a cryptocurrency event and if so, how was it?
I've been to one lecture on blockchain adoption and one discussion of cryptocurrencies. I was also planning to attend another lecture, but I accidentally missed it. It's nice to meet people who know what cryptos are and believe that they can be good for society one way or another. Such events can be very different, but I hope you'll like the one you're going to attend. Unfortunately, some of them are basically just making money, they have high entrance fees and unpopular projects being presented. Unless you're planning to sign a contract between your company and some crypto token company, I wouldn't go there. But meetups and lectures and be nice.
6210  Economy / Speculation / Re: BITCOIN FALL 7% IN A MINUTES on: August 31, 2019, 03:24:15 PM
Bitcoinc falls 7% in a minute.

What triggered the fall?
Okay, let's start with a proof that it really happened because I can't see it. If we look at today's price dynamics on coinmarketcap, it seems that Bitcoin did not have any changes above around 2% from today's maximum price. I also don't see a 7% drop yesterday even within the whole day, whereas you're talking about minutes. If it was a momentary thing, it can be hard to find it right now, though, so it would be nice if you specified the day the hour at least. But even if something like that happened, I don't think it's a reason to panic or something the reason to which can be found easily. It could be a big selling order, but what's important is that it did not affect the market much.

Thank you guys.
I suppose it's down again or it depends on the location of the viewer. I tried accessing it just now, and the website is not loading at all, even though it normally loads smoothly. Well, maintenance is important, so it's not a big problem to wait until it's working properly again. I am just leaving my reply here in case the website is supposed to be up already and there're some issues with particular territories or something.
Sorry for all affected by the downtime.

Enjoy the EPL (& ofcourse Watford Grin), guys!

6212  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SPORTSBET.IO / SPORTS BET IO ... SCAMMED ME FOR $150K USD + on: August 31, 2019, 02:48:55 PM
It's a sad story, and if you disagree with the actions of Sportsbet, you can try to contact them again and explain your situation. You should not expect to get your winnings, but there was a scam accusation before, and in that case, Sportsbet returned the deposited funds to the player. Move this (or make a new topic) to the Scam Accusations (if you go with moving this thread, you can do it by scrolling to the end of the first page and finding the 'Move' bottom near the left corner). Unfortunately, the website is not opening right now (at least, on my laptop), but you should check whether they state that using software that hides the IP is illegal and whether they have the UK in restricted areas. Maybe it can help you to make your point. And I agree with SyGambler that it feels like creating multiple accounts was your biggest mistake since gambling websites normally don't tolerate such behavior.
Sportsbet is respected, they don't scam people and tend to make well-motivated decisions. I am sorry your experience with them was not good.
6213  Economy / Gambling / Re: Pnxbet.Com - Live Casino, Sportsbook, Slots [BTC/ETH/LTC/BCH] on: August 30, 2019, 02:09:17 PM
I think you should add the link to the website in the original post. It would make reviewing the website easier. As for the website, I guess it looks alright, but I wanted to ask why the jackpot sum is in USD and not Bitcoin. I  also wondering whether you could provide a proof of possessing the funds for the jackpot (after all, we are talking about thousands of dollars here, so it's a big deal). You have to understand that it's hard to trust a new casino claiming to have that much money.
6214  Economy / Gambling / Re: ✅ Cryptolot.cc ✅ The best most honest lottery game! Contest|Jackpot|Affiliates on: August 30, 2019, 01:59:56 PM
Indeed some of people are avoiding lottery because it's very difficult to get money from it so it's normal if other lottery site failed to get more players however i just quick jumped to the site and currently tickets sold only 4 tickets from 100 tickets total with the price of each ticket 10k satoshi but in my view to sell all of the tickets lately it's very difficult and i highly doubt 100 tickets will be sold out
When I am thinking about lotteries, I recall the famous saying that the chance of winning the national lottery is lower than the chance of being killed by a car on the way to buy the tickets. It's nice that one doesn't need to drive to buy the tickets these days, of course, but I am not find of lotteries, because I don't see much fun in doing something fast, paying for it and waiting for quite some time to see the result. Crash and even dice seem way lite engaging to me. But I guess people that but lottery tickets are attracted by the sums one can win, no matter how low the chances are. And this new lottery seems not worse than others, so good luck to the team.
6215  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: crypto banned? on: August 30, 2019, 01:52:22 PM
For eastern countries, who don’t have things like democracy to worry about, it was easy. They banned it.

The West took a more subtle approach using the jab-cross-left-hook of fear, dis-accreditation, and tax. Fear of capital loss and distrust. Stories of stolen coins, bankrupt and corrupt exchanges. Linking cryptocurrency to crime, and what the government will do to anyone who actually makes a profit.

It worked.

Globally the response to the rise in the market capitalisation of cryptocurrencies was not homeopathic.

Governments didn’t bring out the heat lamp and cream to soothe the problem.

In the West, while not outright banning cryptocurrency trading, the campaign to stop cryptocurrency demand moved into full swing and included…

Full KYC (know your customer) requirements to open a cryptocurrency account.

New tax laws. The IRS now treats cryptocurrency as property. Any profit must be disclosed. Not just from moving fiat currency into cryptocurrency and then back again, but on every individual transaction.

Big companies too joined the anti-cryptocurrency stance.

Facebook and Google outlawed cryptocurrency advertising.
I think you are focusing on the bad stuff. Surely, some companies and countries are fighting against cryptocurrencies for various reasons, but mainly because they want to stay in power and are afraid of the freedom Blockchain gives to people. But most of civilised countries are either avoiding the topic of cryptos or making them actually legal.  As for banning ICOs, I think it's a fair nice these days, since it's mainly scam. And many companies are actually positive about cryptos, thinking about supporting them or at least implementing Blockchain.
6216  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: John McAfee Says “Bitcoin under $9,500. If you are panicking, you are a fool” on: August 30, 2019, 01:37:42 PM
For some reason the article is unavailable, but in general I think that small fluctuations are absolutely normal. Thus is what we have to be ready for if we don't want centralised regulation. And if you look at early history of Bitcoin, you can really see how things are getting better. It's just that the price is bigger, so it seems more significant. But if we look at percentage, now everything is fairly stable. And of course, from long-term perspective even significant price drops don't matter. I am sure that eventually we'll see the new ATH, and it's a matter of a couple of years.
6217  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: All these guys claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto ! on: August 30, 2019, 01:23:23 PM
Pretty much anyone with fluent English, good knowledge of programming languages and cryptocurrencies can claim to be Satoshi. Moreover, even people without some of these features can try. It's not even about being Satoshi, receiving the credit. I think it's about cheap and effective marketing. You can be a nobody who needs to popularise a service, and then you make a revelation story that you are the mysterious Satoshi, and boom, people are now talking about you, writing press releases, reading your content.
6218  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coindesk & Cointelegraph give Fake News on: August 30, 2019, 01:14:42 PM
This is worrying because investors need good information and 2 leading crypto websites aren't delivering. I guess they don't have any journalists. They receive press releases, they send them to a guy in Asia (they probably found him on Fiverr?) to rewrite it somehow, and they publish it without understanding anything.

This is exactly what they did in the following 2 articles:

https://www.coindesk.com/crypto-traders-who-lost-big-in-poloniex-flash-crash-receive-bitcoin-refunds

https://cointelegraph.com/news/poloniex-will-reimburse-135-million-loss-from-clams-flash-crash

I'm a victim here. I've lost more than one BTC in this 1,800 BTC affair, which I explain in this topic.

Coindesk and Cointelegraph are both saying I will get my money back, but I won't, nor will anyone. It's 100% fake news, and Poloniex knows it very well. That's his plan.

What Poloniex has been announcing is that to all people who have had their money stolen, Poloniex offers all trading fees. That sounds like a nice gesture, except that trading fees for a maker is 0.15% at this exchange. As anyone can imagine, to get 1,800 BTC back from a 0.15% fee, that will take a lot of trading... And actually, no trading will happen. Because, as everybody affected, when I discovered that my coins were gone, I quickly withdrew what was left of it. Hey, when you see that your coins disappear, you don't leave them at an exchange you cannot trust!

So Poloniex won't have anything to pay, and that's what Coindesk and Cointelegraph should have they have said, if they had understood anything about the issue, or if they had any will to give good information to their readers.

I am not sure it counts as fake news, since the articles are not talking about the intentions of the exchange, and these intentions were expressed by Polo, right? I am sorry if you won't receive an adequate compensation for your loss. Unfortunately, Poloniex is not Binance (the latter paid full compensation to users after the recent hack, right?).
You are right about the general problem with news portals. Everyone is biased and dependent on the sources that finance it. So in any case we must be critical about the things we read.
6219  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is the ICO dead? on: August 29, 2019, 07:06:42 PM
Is there a demand out there for the coins/tokens that companies and startup are churning out every day?

The market for initial coin offerings (ICOs) looks like its basically dead, is it likely going to resurrect again? What we see is that market players are spending much of their time focused on finding new ways to deploy new supply of tokens, but not focusing much on long term drivers of demand. However, there are natural limits to the market's ability to absorb an endless supply of tokens, there is a limit to how quickly we can push supply into an increasingly saturated market.

Do you think the ICO is really dead?
If not, where is the market headed?
The golden age of ICOs was 2017. At that time people were generally excited about the bull run, and ready to invest in "hidden gems", "the new Bitcoin". However, as the bearish trend came to be, those investments disappointed people even more than Bitcoin. Not to mention huge sums of money simply being stolen from investors... These people never even got their tokens, and many people got shitty tokens. There've been other initial offerings looking like the future of such projects, but IMO they died almost right after being started. Now's the time for Bitcoin, maybe a couple of other big cryptos. Not tokens.
6220  Economy / Economics / Re: Fake-branded bars slip dirty gold into world markets on: August 29, 2019, 06:39:27 PM
If even gold is getting this type of scamming then there is really no point on not going over to blockchain route for everything. If you could just put up like a qr code deal or just some numbers that represents wallets or address on gold bars you can just check those gold bars on each time someone sell it and you can see where it was gotten from. That way if the company that got mimicked by the scammers (I know gold were real gold but the reputation was stolen) they would be able to refute or agree what has happened was actually what happened.

Otherwise we will keep having these type of stuff in all investment stuff, blockchain literally makes sure the owner is the correct one with many stuff like signatures and all which is the exact reason even cash should be tied to blockchain with their numbers.
QR code also seems like a good idea to me. I suggested it a while ago when people were discussing whether fiat can be made so that it's impossible to fake it. Cryptos are indeed not to blame for money laundering activities. There's been various research showing that banks launder more money than cryptos (actually, this one is simply a fact) and that terrorists prefer fiat for now. Cryptos are associated with cybercrime, but it's also growing regardless of the usage of Blockchain, just because of the general advancements in tech. It's just easy to blame cryptos as something new and suspicious, and it's also an attempt of the old institutions to survive by accusing the new thing of having negative impact.
