I like this forum, and I have understood little about it, it makes use of merits and activities to rank members. I have checked few threads and I saw well written posts. The forum is a bit hard for me to start but I know the beginning could be hard but the later would be easy. I have also noticed few other things about this forum.

The forum to earn but quality contributions are prerequisites
Yes, this forum can be used to earn but I like it that only Full members and more ranked members earn better, I noticed the more the rank the more the possibilities of opportunities. But, before we can earn here, we need to be patient and contribute qualitatively.

Importance of the merits
Merits is a very good thing because it will makes this forum clean, making it full with quality threads, if the merit is not implemented, there will be more spammers and people that post uselessly will abuse the forum, I like the merit for this reason.

Low rank members are still ranking higher
I would have complained saying this forum is full of cheaters but with the profile of some members I checked, I noticed people are ranking higher, which means I just need to think of a way to post like them so to habe merits.

In conclusion, bitcointalk a good forum
It is hard for me to earn merit now, but I know I just have to contribute qualitatively before earning merits, and I will try my best towards that.
6222  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to Differentiate Between Trader and Investor on: June 17, 2020, 10:26:58 PM

But what I personally see to be the major difference between the crypto investor and trader is the length of coin holding of the two. While investor is in for the long term, the trader is in for the short term.

Anyways, let me allow you to comment. What's the major difference between these two actors in the crypto industry?

I have made a simple difference table that is distinguished from 4 main points, maybe someone wants to add it welcome

Nice one, but one point of correction, for holding, you also need technical analyses. Technical analysis is a prerequisite to a successful trading or holding.
6223  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Suggestions about the best ways to backup seed phrase on: June 17, 2020, 10:08:51 PM
Shamir's Secret Sharing is one of the good ways to backup the seed phrase, according to Wikipedia:
Shamir's Secret Sharing is an algorithm in cryptography created by Adi Shamir. It is a form of secret sharing, where a secret is divided into parts, giving each participant its own unique part https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shamir%27s_Secret_Sharing

Using Shamir's Secret Sharing, the seed phrase can be divided into two in a way that each halve will be useless to hackers if seen. But using the common sense to separate the seed phrase, if one halve of it is known to hackers, it is possible to know the other halve of the phrase.

After using Shamir's Secret Sharing to divide the seed phrase, it can be replicated and the four can be stored in four locations. I will prefer it laminated or on metallic sheet and be buried in a safe place.

Electrum wallet is an online wallet, I even read is an open source wallet created long time ago, people claimed online wallets are not secure but electeum wallet really is worth of saving bitcoin. We are different people with different opinion though, I just like electrum for saving little amount of bitcoin, and I have coinomi for sophisticated reasons. I do not have hardware wallet for now, but planning to get ledger nano x which I believe has overtook paper wallets trend of last decade.

It can also be used offline, so you could use it as a paper wallet (by generating keys on a machine that has never touched, or never touch the internet), or even a de facto hardware wallet (by using a persistent Linux flash drive that will never touch the internet).

I know about this, but you need two device for this, one will be used for making transaction and for knowing about bitcoin balance, it will not contain the private key, the other device will contain the private key, not connected to bluetooth or internet to make it safe. You can also use phone for it or computers.

Paper wallets are better than hardware wallet even but it is only best when you follow the safe strategy to generate paper wallets.

A complete holder, can still withdraw to stanble coins or fiat as a safe haven when bitcoin price is falling.
They are trader, not holder. Holders don't sell their bitcoin frequently on price pump and dump. They have a target point where they will sell their BTC. No matter how dump bitcoin have, they will still hold their coin in their bag. You have messed up trader and holder.

I agree but can you see this in another way around also.

If you buy bitcoin for over a year before selling it means you are still a  holder, some hodl longer. There are whales that hold even for long before selling and the selling can mildly shake bitcoin price. Of you do not sell bit coin for a long time means you are investing in it and t means you are hodling.

Take a look at this good example
When bitcoin price was decreased last year in March 2019 to $3800, someone can buy bitcoin and be so lucky to hold until the price was $10000 again this year before selling it. Is that not hodl?

And, I did not mean selling bitcoin frequently, it can take six months or longer but in a way that will favour them.

a good holder need a hardware wallet which he can still be able to convert from one coin to another, make transactions.
Why would someone who is planning to hold bitcoin offline for an extended period of time be wanting to convert their cold storage to some useless altcoin? If you want to make frequent trades and transaction, then obviously a paper wallet is not the right choice.

I just like the type of holding in a way holders sell before bitcoin price decrease, or should I call it swing trading which is the right term. And some traders always hold stable coin or dollar as a safe haven. For instance, in March 2020, bitcoin price dumped from $10500 to $3600, some traders holding tether or dollar converted it to bitcoin because they knew the price will pump up again. This is what new holders are actually doing now unlike last decade and old holders. That is why I still always recently thinking paper wallet is not the good option for me.

Personally I don't have one but I only have electrum in my laptop and desktop. Nothing special but I backed them up in my usd drive for safety.

Electrum wallet is an online wallet, I even read is an open source wallet created long time ago, people claimed online wallets are not secure but electeum wallet really is worth of saving bitcoin. Recently, I have been reading articles about wallets, the safest I read about are paper wallets and hardware wallets. I prefer hardware wallets but they are expensive for my liking for now and I want to consider going for a paper wallet. But according to wikipeia, paper wallets generate only one address which means only one address for transaction. i think it is not a good alternative for me.

Paper wallets for hodling
Paper wallets should be used for only holding, it was common in 2012 to around 2016, but whales do like and prefer hardware wallets now because it is more easy to understand and use than a paper wallet. For now, paper wallet can still be good for holding but it is good to send the coins you want to hold on it at ones.

Why paper wallet is not encouraged now
I will say paper wallet is not good to use now, because of the price of bitcoin, it is good in the past when bitcoin price was rising but unlike now, a good holder need a hardware wallet which he can still be able to convert from one coin to another, make transactions. A complete holder, can still withdraw to stanble coins or fiat as a safe haven when bitcoin price is falling. If someone can afford hardware wallet, it is better.

Paper wallet is cumbersome to use, need good knowledge about it before use and before holding if you want one. It can be burned in fire accident, it can be destroyed by water or other liquids, that is why I do not like it. But for safety, it is still good because its private keys are offline.

Snip...

Welcome to bitcointalk.org forum! Hope that you will not be triggered by rules or merit and think that it is hard to rank up. Since everything that you ask was answered correctly. Let me just give you some references so that you can start reading about cryptocurrency.

[RESOURCES] Free bitcoin/blockchain/finance eBook. - Posted by Maus0728

If you just want to master bitcoin and learn about in internet, those books are worth to read. Actually, I am currently reading Mastering Bitcoin because I never saw any book related in crypto and finance before. I just based my knowledge on what I have read in google and forum. But because of his post, I am able to learn more in crypto space.

Another thing, just post whenever you just want to ask (but please be substantial and relevant to crypto and forum). Don't worry, we never laugh a newbie here but instead we push you to go beyond your limits!

Thank you so much for these books, I know little about crypto but these books will really improve me.

That said, I really appreciate all members that contributed by answering me for just me to know about these forum. I will give my best out and hoping for your friendliness. Thank you all.

minairia3 and Peanutswar, thank you so much for telling me all these, I have read about this, I think I am now getting familiar to this forum.

Good day everyone, I know little about bitcoin and I know there are other coins too and during my researches online, I read about this forum from three sites, so that drew my attention to want to know about this site, I am just a beginner and know nothing about here, can you people tell me what this forum is all about, I only know it is about bitcoin but I do not know anything more than that.

That said, this are my questions
1. What is the purpose of this forum?
2. What is legendary? I saw a pinned post and beside it is written legendary.
3. What are the coins under the legendary stand for?
4. What is activity?
5. What is merit?

Do not be offended if my questions look stupid, I just want to be cleared about how this forum works.

That said, I am a crypto trader, I have few advice for that can help our trading life.

1. When I started trading, I thought it was easy and just buy and sell without analyses. Analyses is a requisite to a successful trading. You will need to analyse the coin you want to use to trade, also you need to analyze the current situation of the crypto market.

2. If you want to hold, you need to have knowledge about trading too so you can buy when the market is favorable. I have a friend that bought bit coin at $17000 in few years back, we both knew nothing about holding but the high price lured him to invest, the coin grew to $20000 but later went down to $12000. He lost money and he has to convert the bitcoin back to fiat. But had it been we knew about trading, he will not fall into such trap. It is not good to trade at the top market.

3. For both traders and investors, it is good to be patient, do not just invest because the price of bit coin has risen, be patient, let the coin lower in price before investing.

4. Holders learn trading not because they want to trade, but because they want to hold so they can hold at the right time when price will later rise but not fall.

5. Using indicators to trade can be helpful but they can also go the other way. A good indicator I like using is Relative Strenght Index.

6. While trading, you need to trade with good mind and  right sense, be patient, not greedy and be disciplined.

7. Do not trade because other are doing it, trade because you learned about it.

8. Do not believe in bots and signals. Learn, have knowledge and this will lead to experience of how to analyse and predict the market.

That said, in 2019, I was scammed, not that crypto is dangerous but because I only have little knowledge about it. Let us know ways to avoid scammers and also hackers. We should be careful with our wallets, use trusthworthy exchanges, and avoid fake sites and emails. This link will be helpful,
