What will you bump with if they turn out to be accurate to the pre-released specs?

That I have proven the Riemann Hypothesis.

For those who don't know (including me):  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riemann_hypothesis
Im being serious here. I have read that thing twice now, And have no fucking idea what you could use it for/what the hell it is, Could someone graciously explain to me WTF that is?

tbh I don't quite understand it myself, I've read a book on the subject titled "music of the primes".
It's "uses" are limited, and I don't think there really is something to do with it other than in math. You could for example derive a function to know the exact quantity of prime numbers below some particular value without calculating the primes themselves. (Don't nail me on that though, might be wrong)

Whatever happens, it's going to be spectacular.  There's no way this scheme ends without drama.

+1

one of the few things that still keeps me posting here  Grin

Because the people aren't starving. There's an excellent book titled The Great Wave which shows a strong correlation between food prices and revolutions. During the French Revolution, many people had a clear cut choice: starve to death and watch your family do the same, or starve while fighting the aristocracy (and maybe steal some of their bread). I believe that if conditions get so poor in the US that people can no longer afford food, then people will find a way to revolt. At that level, it's simple survival.

I can assure you, there are will be plenty of fast food available :-) Even for free. And true that, mostly most of the revolutions were due to hunger. The russian one happened because workers were starving.

Where we are headed that doesn't matter. One way or another we gonna have the system Neal Stephenson envisioned within one generation, and I have no issues posting that here, the existing power structure has already accepted that they will only play some minor role as one of these distributed systems.
6285  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Wiki Weapon on: August 07, 2012, 09:10:36 PM
The thread is not about homemade weapons imho, it's about one of the first projects related to open source automated physical object development (may be we need a revised version of GNU GPL?).
Oh well lets see we have

a complete civilization: http://opensourceecology.org/wiki/Global_Village_Construction_Set
about every gadget you can imagine: http://www.thingiverse.com
a car: http://wikispeed.com/
a plane http://makerplane.org/

not to mention various electronic devices from computers, game consoles and instruments (I own 2 of them actually)
It is hard to think of anything not being developed in a open source model...

Yes it's time.

You are entitled to your opinion, but you'd have a hard time arguing about it in a thread about selfmade guns Wink
6287  Economy / Auctions / Re: US 1 Million Dollar Bill on: August 07, 2012, 08:47:16 PM
A interesting tidbit:

100,000*1612/35=4,605,714

So in theory that note would be worth quite alot more than 1 mil of todays usd Wink
6288  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Wiki Weapon on: August 07, 2012, 08:40:23 PM
Well, wachtwoord has a point though:
There isn't a 2nd amendment equivalent in most countries around the world, where I live that is only formulated as a grant not a right, and only granted as a relic of reformation period of monarchy in my county, although still valid. And in some countries there is nothing, except that mocking UN-declaration.

Hi to all pentagon cyber-security employees!  Wink
6290  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL ASIC is bogus on: August 07, 2012, 08:10:28 PM
Even a 180nm full custom chip would blow away today's fpga solutions and - I am almost certain of that - the actually to be released BFL products (if any).
FYI all those small microcontroller ICs from PIC to AVR to the Parallax Propeller and so on are done in 180nm and they are very competitive.
6291  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Does increased processing power deflate bitcoin value? on: August 07, 2012, 08:05:58 PM
Increased processing power provably increases Bitcoin value. There are many methods of obtaining Bitcoin, and one method is mining. With a higher processing power, and eventually a higher difficulty, this method decreases in effectiveness. The net result is an increase of Bitcoin value.

This was the conclusion that coined the term "difficulty drives price", which is a fundamental principal of Bitcoin's market. However, although its converse principle "price drives difficulty" is expected to remain useful, DDP is expected to decrease in strength as the mining industry becomes relatively smaller compared to the rest of the Bitcoin economy.

no it's complete nonsense and everybody except the diehard delusionals agrees that it is nonsense.
stop spreading nonsense.

one 4th time: NONSENSE
6292  Economy / Speculation / Re: Best Time To Sell In Over A Year on: August 07, 2012, 07:30:06 PM
I can't wait for it to punch $30, screw around for a month at $35 then go towards $40's. Perhaps then all the bubble idiots will shut their pie-holes. Hell, they don't even know the definition of one - not that we haven't tried to educate them, of course.

You sound kind of mad!

Silly question: Your name suggests you do trading, that is buying and selling with no particular preference on whenever the price goes up or down. Yet you are one of the loudest bulls in this forum currently... somehow this doesn't fit that well together.
6293  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How Large is BTCST exposure? on: August 07, 2012, 03:59:30 PM
Why would he be in any rush to sell it all at once?

I don't think he would want to.

But it would depend on the public reaction, if people start selling after the default, the word goes around that bitcoin is doomed now, etc...he might have no choice. If that doesn't happen I consider it unlikely.
He might do it regardless if he wants to get out of BTC in order to take out the motivation of the angry mob upto him.
"All your BTC are already sold, there is no way you can get them back" - is a strong argument.

thanks, lethargy FTW!
6295  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Daily Speculation Poll] :: Even numbers on: August 07, 2012, 03:45:16 PM
where is the no buy/no sell option?
6296  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What is the next big thing in Bitcoin services? on: August 07, 2012, 03:40:59 PM
wiki Open Source P2P manufacturing, production, distribution, logistics and supply
That will be part of the thing that will replace bitcoin.

God I'd love to be proven wrong on that.

6297  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Best Pool as of August 2012? on: August 07, 2012, 03:11:30 PM
Alright I understand it now, still you might be wrong.... I'd look it up myself, thanks Wink
6298  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Best Pool as of August 2012? on: August 07, 2012, 03:06:47 PM
and the reason for this not affecting payout would be?
6299  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Best Pool as of August 2012? on: August 07, 2012, 03:00:56 PM
strange I always assumed efficiency is equivalent to payout. What else would it be?
6300  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Revisionism in Bitcoin Magazine on: August 07, 2012, 02:59:00 PM
So tell me how to fix this little problem? Would sending out one more pdf with original text help?

I'd do that. Perhaps use PDF annotation feature as said by casacius to add a note stating that when the magazine was published, Bitcoinica was still operating normally.

I meant do the opposite - publish the PDF to match the print edition, and add annotations to say something happened after it was published.  No revising the story!

I think I'd have no problem with revision of minor obvious typographical errors... but changing a story is a huge journalistic no-no.
+1

I would be severely disappointed if you change the story after it has been published.
