641  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Reliable Risers on: May 26, 2017, 12:47:15 PM
the 1080ti don't anything more than unpowered risers because it come with 2x 8 pin, which deliver 300 watt, and 300watt are more than enough to power this beast

Thanks - yeah they definitely are beast ... I threw these

https://s12.postimg.org/fhsw41v8t/tis.jpg

into 5 dual rigs last night, been up all night playing with them.

Such a PITA finding not 1 but TWO freaking 8 pin ports on each PSU lol.

My EVGA 1500 has I think 8 so it will support 4 cards at least

Time to place the order for the risers now, more Ti's are already en route Smiley

642  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Reliable Risers on: May 26, 2017, 12:28:33 PM
Just trying to see who has some really reliable quality risers - hawk doesn't seem to have any in stock atm

Will be for 1080 ti's if that even matters
643  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fourth alt coin thread last three got oversized. on: May 26, 2017, 07:17:25 AM
I have 4 x 1080tis and 4 x 1070 currently.

Thanks to the BTC rise (even at 2300 something it is still an incredible level).... ordered another 4 more 1080ti

I decided to standardize on the MSI Z270A-Pro for NVIDIA farm -- compatible perfectly with fullzero's nvoc Linux OS.

Late last night, my group put another early order of 12 x MSI and Aorus 1080ti but....... it fell through..... got email from supplier NO STOCK and both MSI and Gigabyte have not updated next shipment schedules.

Supplier has indicated that crypto currency boom basically getting practically all NVIDIA GPUs off the shelves as soon as they are available in store and basically no stock for online sales.

If you have not bought that 1080ti or still deciding..... my advise is get them now before its too late.

Its bad enough that practically RX500 and RX400 cards are hard to come by nowadays...... now NVIDIA has gotten the crypto bug too.

I suspect that by the time VEGA comes in.... every card from AMD or NVIDIA will be above normal price.

I think Intel will soon come to play in the GPU arena.

I will not be surprised if we will see "unknowns" from China coming out ...... like this brand called COLORFUL.

http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/colorful-launches-igame-geforce-gtx-1080-ti-vulcan-x-oc.html

What scares me is I called all of this so perfectly since last April .

I would argue and fight with people that alt coins mined by gpus would take off due to so many economical factors that we all need to have a piece of it.

13 x 1080 ti's earn good coins. Around 100 a day.  That is a 1080 ti every 8 days.

I run them at 70% tdp. And if it gets too warm I will drop power to 55%.

Thanks to you I've decided to run all 1080 Ti's, tested 1060, 1070 and RX 470's and 1080 ti's just fit for me because I don't have enough power. All the rooms in my house are on crappy 15A breakers so I'm screwed on running a lot of rigs Sad

Do you tweak anything else on the 1080ti's besides bringing tdp down to 70%?

Thanks agian for the help!
644  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 3 Dual Rigs completed for now - testing underway :) on: May 26, 2017, 04:47:56 AM
Z270 only had room for 2 onboard - I'm thinking about getting a couple of these:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130968&cm_re=MSI_Z270_XPOWER_GAMING_TITANIUM-_-13-130-968-_-Product

They look like they can have 4 GPU's on board which I wanted to test out - if anyone has any experience I'd like to know.
As long as the motherboard has any sized PCIe slot (1x - 16x) you can purchse PCIe risers like this: https://www.amazon.com/PCI-E-Powered-Riser-Adapter-Extension/dp/B06XHVTCRF/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1495766268&sr=1-6&keywords=pcie+riser and just plug the riser into the motherboard and the card into the riser. Mining doesn't use that much slot bandwidth so mining performance is unaffected on the bus speed.

I'm currently using a mobo with 3 16x slots and 3 1x slots and using those risers in all the slots to be able to use 6 cards.

Since you already have an AX1500i you could just buy more cards or use those 470s and the 1060 and the risers and plug them into any open PCIe slot on your motherboard but you might have to do some research to see if your motherboard can hold 4-5+ GPUs.

Yeah I wanted to do riser-less builds to test them out for now - I'll probably toy with a riser build in the future to run it side by side with a 4 card no riser build.

For now I just came home to some different 1080's to play with Smiley

645  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fourth alt coin thread last three got oversized. on: May 26, 2017, 01:56:53 AM
yes;  8 sucks donkeyball$.  Plain and simple.   Another Vista/Me, if you ask me.

Win 7 is useful, and doesn't fail... yet...

Win10 is pretty solid;  but once you get past the need for auto-updates, etc... all that phil mentioned.

I wont be using win10 on my "off the grid/satellite" mining locations I am working on.  Cellular connections are not data friendly;  and having a whole farm on a cellular connection try and process updates is retarded (so far the PC-PC on LAN update sharing has done d!ck for saving me some bandwidth every month).
I have finally worked on a huge group of IP range bans, and other firewall/hosts filters to prevent machines on win10 from updating.  One trick is to keep only a few hundred Mb free to not make it possible for it to even download them....

But, in locations where data count is going to matter,   I can; and will not use 10 for that reason.

Otherwise its my first choice honestly.

I upgraded al my win 10 to enterprise and then did some command line crap.  and it is pretty much update free.

but frankly for me win 7 was a pleasure and still is a pleasure to use.

I am not anti linux or anti mac.  or anti amd or anti nvidia or anti much of anything at all.

two exceptions are windows 8 and  segwit. but I just want the thread to be friendly more then anything.

The world of crypto coin has just had insane monster growth and a ton of money is moving around.    So lets party.

I just got another  nvidia 1080 ti and have one coming on tues

tomorrow I am bringing a 1080 to a friend in Brooklyn.  I have an asus strix 1070 and a msi 1060 3gb which have to go.

I may get 2 more galax katana 1070's.

so final gear would be 13 x 1080 ti's
4 x Galax katana 1070's

both zec and skein are doing  so well I find it hard to believe things are this good.

That's super kickass! I'm building more 1080ti rigs because of you guys as well lol Thanks for the inspiration!

What miner u using for ZEC? I am using Nemos as you guys suggested which is going well with the 1070's and 1080 Ti's.

Only getting 800-850 on the 1080ti's and getting around 400-450 on the 1070's. I just don't think my afterburner settings are that great.

CPU's: i3-7100's
HDD's: Kingston 120Gb SSD
RAM: 8GB Corsair DDR4
MOBO: MSI Z270 A Pro

They look like they can have 4 GPU's on board which I wanted to test out - if anyone has any experience I'd like to know.

I also have a Corsair AX1500i ready for the 1080 Ti's when they arrive.

Sad to see these spare parts - 1060 and 2 RX 470's that I won't be using ... well maybe who knows. Smiley

648  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / 3 Dual Rigs completed for now - testing underway :) on: May 26, 2017, 12:20:33 AM
First thanks everyone I've bugged and who's helped me out - you guys are great and there are so many awesome people here!

After TONS of reading and then more reading and searching and a few questions I finally built 3 dual GPU rigs to test out for myself.

For my test run I only bought:

2 RX 470's
2 1070's
2 1080 Ti's

Here they are

Currently just running NiceHash with Claymore Dual Miner but if anyone can suggest something better I'm all ears Smiley

The nVidia's I have on zpool using nemos 1.7.3

Always looking for better way to set up -

In the garage I also have 8 more RX 470's but I just bought 10 more 1080Ti's to replace the RX 470's since they are not earning much on NiceHash at all.

I don't have anything flashed, the nVidias are just tuned a tiny bit with Afterburner.

Thanks again for all the awesome info - my journey couldn't have even began without all you lovely people!
649  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How will AMD Vega affect GPU mining? on: May 24, 2017, 03:04:58 PM

TL;DR  Is the vega worth the wait over the 5xx series ?

The price point for Vega is rumored at 499/599$.

Now unless one card hashes ETH at 50Mh/s, so let's say, what 2 RX4xx/5xx can do, the price of one vega card doesn't make it super interesting, unless you have loads of cash or have a nicely sized farm that has ROI'd already and you can play around, when you're a small time miner it doesn't look like a very good investment for a new rig, for now that is.

Some think it'll drop the price on the RX series. My view is rather that everyone will keep purchasing RX cards because their cheaper, effectively drying up stocks just like we are seeing now.

No matter what it costs, it can still be interesting if you care about card density/performance and are limited to X number of cards you can run Smiley

I'm limited to X cards so I definitely understand.
650  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fourth alt coin thread last three got oversized. on: May 23, 2017, 06:40:25 PM
Pointing the entire farm to Nicehash ZEC for a week of bliss.....

I am speechless what people pay to rent equihash....

I wish I have a massive 1080Ti farm....

I wish I had a massive 1080Ti farm too lol

How do you tell Nicehash to only mine ZEC? Sorry for the newb question - but I'm a newb Smiley
651  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Review of Galax 1070 Katana GPU ( it has arrived) on: May 23, 2017, 03:50:22 PM
With skein and other algorithms performing much better returns on Nvidia cards, why are you still mining zcash Phillip? Is it because of the stability?

ZEC changed that for a brief while this morning during the spike - it's still up a LOT even now, but I think it fell back behind some of the skein and groetsl coins (intermitantly, those coins are ALL small network hash and tend to bounce around on profitability a LOT).

I bounce from all zec to all skein to some of each.

I guess and do it manually as switching multi-pool software is always chasing the hot coin.

It is also far harder on the gear.

those two katanas want the asus to leave them and they want 2 more katanas

Sexy beasts there!

what miner are you using for ZEC?

652  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Beginner] Looking for mining help [Beginner] on: May 23, 2017, 03:26:51 PM
My buddy and I are getting into mining.  We both work good jobs and want to start with altcoins.  We basically wanna be able to mine different currencies depending on how markets are going. We plan on getting our first 6 gpu rig within a week and continuing from there.  We want to get cards that are versatile for switching currencies if need be.  Money isnt an option, we want a top of the lane versatile rig.  Were looking for some help.  If any1 has any good ideas or places to start, that would be great.  Thanks for the time friends!

I'm new as well - and pretty much came here with the same plans.

There are tons of threads and topics that would be great if there were step by step tutorials and a wiki or table of content of sorts but there isn't. Best thing to do, is dive in and read everything you can.
653  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1300-1700$ desktop PC for mining on: May 23, 2017, 03:00:39 PM
Hi,

I can choose my work PC specifications, budget is around 1300-1700usd.
Of course I would like to use it for mining as well since there is free electricity in the office.
What hardware should I choose? Intel vs AMD? Gefore gtx vs quadro? Maybe Xeon-processor?

Thanks!

Literally sky is the limit - I am using the following and all parts are overkill but it's my first computer/miner:

i7 7700 quad core 3.6 GHz/4.2 Turbo (you can get away with a Celeron)
16gb DDR4 (you can get away with 4gb)
120gb SSD

I went with 1070's because 1080tis weren't available for local pickup, and also I know I'm going to be building a few more machines - I would just go with 1080 ti's if I were only building 1 machine.

655  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: building rig on: May 23, 2017, 02:39:54 PM
Check out the computer hardware section in the marketplace, there's someone selling a whole farm of cards there.

Its seems that I cant find the forum cam you send me a Link to the forum?

Thank you

Maybe I'm being a dick but I'm not TRYING to be one ...

If you can't find a subforum on this site... do you think just diving in and sinking 50k without doing some A LOT of research is wise?

This should get you going.

replace my BTC address with your BTC address; and either delete " **INSERT ID HERE**, " or change it to " SOMETHINGELSE, "

thanks a ton! i have so much to learn it's staggering

Once you get your feet wet you realize its actually somewhat simple.

The hard part is testing everything over and over and over again....  Its taxing....  This is why I support minerx in what hes doing here with his version of my batch;  it surely lightens the load Wink  He goes that step further and provides a whole package.

I'm an ass and make people do their own work... lol

If you haven't yet, reading through my posts via the batch file link in my signature;  you could learn a lot of the juicy stuff.  Things like the normalization, the original batch file, etc... they all do (hopefully) a good job at describing what's what and how it works and will bring more scope to what you must pay attention to.

Thanks again I definitely will have have a few, I've basically been reading non stop for the past week - the problem with this the more reading I'm doing, the more money I'm spending on GPU's lol. I just pulled the trigger on 3 more 1080 ti's for a 3 card non riser rig, just trying to figure out which mobo will be able to do this at the best price.

Ok now that I've spent money, back to more reading. Smiley

And again, thanks for your help and time, much love!

658  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fourth alt coin thread last three got oversized. on: May 22, 2017, 11:57:49 PM
after all my hyping up skein;  the hashrate on zpool has over tripled in the last week.... (just looked, actually more than 5x)  So I am glad that some people are finally coming around to seeing that everyone jumping on the same horse slows down the ride for everyone aboard.

Im curious on how profitability will flux because of the increase in hash.  I have always maintained the belief (though my own findings over the last year) that if pool hashrate grows beyond a certain point;  you don't feel the luck spikes near as much; and in the end;  overall profitability deltas down a bit.

but then again, the markets are in such a flux recently, that it's hard to distinguish ATM.  I did however love it when I was 10-30% of the pool hashrate for only 1Gh....   Those were some damned good profitable days.  And everyone was screaming about ETH and ZEC value dropping/diff rising.

DGB almost broke 1000 satoshis... which is unheard of.  a week ago it climbed to 100.....
AUR has been garnishing buy and hold support as well, so Skein keeps maintaining its high profitability.

When I start trying to max out the wattage I can safely consume at my home (power included free with my with rent), Ill be looking to underclock my machines just so I can fit more cards in play;  I think it should make it a little better to have more cards running slightly underclocked; than to have less cards running full-ham.

Phillip;

As a test, maybe take that 4 card rig, and split it into two instances of ccminer for 2 cards each....   I wonder if it would give you a little extra on the pool-hashrate-calculation side of things and increase profitability a little.

I.E.
First instance:
ccminer.exe -d 0,1 -i 26,26 -a skein -o stratum+tcp://skein.mine.zpool.ca:5033 -u BTC ADDRESS -p  Miner1Instance1,c=BTC,etc.....

Second Instance:
ccminer.exe -d 2,3 -i 26,26 -a skein -o stratum+tcp://skein.mine.zpool.ca:5033 -u BTC ADDRESS -p   Miner1Instance2,c=BTC,etc.....

In a few instances I was able to get a little more out of some rigs.  It also helps for shotty or high latency internet connections sometimes.  More data out sometimes helps push packets through the ISP's systems.  It was a big problem for me previously on my cellular connections.

YMMV though.

they are all 3 card rigs and I am running some sidehack usb sticks and some xmr on the cpus

Power is not the issue I can provide up to 48 amps of 240 power.
I am doing only 9-10 amps.

heat is a killer
and my power bill jumps from 9.7  cents net  to 18 cents net from june 1 to sept 30

but I may run one rig with 3 instance as 1 rig has 3 different 1080 ti's

Super sick been reading all your stuff!

Are you using risers in your 3 card rigs? If not what mobo is able to fit 3 cards with no risers? My asus I can only mount 2 gpu's in there currently have 2x1070's in there but I ordered 1080ti's because reading all your posts.

659  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ROI question on mining rigs on: May 22, 2017, 11:34:09 PM
I'm lucky... I get deals on computer parts since I live in Silicon Valley....

memory is dirt to me and my friend (he used to be a head at PIIceon back in the day)...

The last H97 Anniversary We ordered for Henry's rackminer only cost $130 shipped... came with ram and processor too.

That price is bonkers if you ask me...

Let me try and break down the price of Henry's Rackminer:

$130 MB+CPU+RAM (ebay score BIN)
$100 Rosewill 4U case (he got a deal on Amazon for damaged box/returned or something retarded)
$100 Coolmax 1600w PSU (his friend sells them)
$80  6x risers (right angle, and 6 pin connector)
$2000 ($400/ea)5x GTX 1080 (used, craigslist)
$600 2x GTX 1070 (Used, CL again)
$25  Ace hardware, aluminum trim for making bracketry to support the GPU
$45 130CFM fans x3
....   I dont think I missed anything else....

That's $3080..... and it does this:
http://zpool.ca/?address=1kLsGT9egk3utSKZH46ydTbKj5oMnmBoN

Presently he has added a second 1070, so he had me put both his 1070's in his home pc so he could game on them as well... that's why you see two miners....   subtract .5Gh if you don't want to count one of the 1070's.  still quite a profit...

How are you mining skein?

I am trying using nemos zpool but it's mining everything but skein atm so I don't know how to get it to just mine skein, it keeps rejecting if i delete all algos except skein.

I only have 2 1070's on a windows 10

I invested a little under $10k in hardware, this includes electrical upgrades and also cooling units

https://i.imgur.com/MRqCW8B.png

How many kW are you running and what are you paying per kWh?  Have you seen your electric bill yet?

$0.075/kWh, used a little under 5000kWh last month

Man that is good! I pay over double that ($0.20/kWh) congrats man those are good earnings indeed for only 10k investment!
