643  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: September 09, 2014, 05:03:41 PM
May I ask what determines load?  I have two Antminers,

#1 using cat5 connection and its wifi connection disabled has:
loads of 2.70, 2.56, 2.51,
hashrate 441.03,
DIFF 354,
Fan/Temp 3000/41 & 2220/41 room
Temp/Humidity 83°/-%;

and #2 at some distance running via wifi has:
loads of 1.62, 1.47. 1.42,
hashrate 440.80,
DIFF 367,
Fan/Temp 2040/40 & 1860/39,
room Temp/Humidity 80°/39%.

So the first has loads 147% higher than the second?  Both S3's at stock frequency.
The biggest load is on an Antminer is cgminer, because it does all the work.
Installing the latest cgminer (which does NOT void your warranty) will, it has been shown, reduce the load by a significant margin.

I am actually surprised at your results, I would have thought the wifi connected antminer would have a higher load than the cat5 connected one, and that it would be reflected in the Diff that has been allocated by the pool, aka I would have expected the cat5 connected ant to have a higher Diff. Could you check your pool-side speeds and see if they reflect the GUI speeds? Also, what are the DiffR numbers for each? (PS. I'll expect a slightly higher DiffR on the wifi connected ant, assuming they are connected to the same pool)

Do you know by chance how much of a load reduction is realized with the new CGMiner?  We've ordered a number of the new S3+ units and am wondering what PSU wattage would be needed for 1 unit pending they've rated it with the older version. I was planning on 500w PSUs for singles... Perhaps 400s would work?

Thanks!

I don't have the build environment to create a full binary image, and the code will need a LOT of work to actually become part of mainline cgminer it seems, but for the time being here is a link to a bugfixed binary of cgminer 4.6.0 for the S3 based on the bitmain code. Copy the file into /usr/bin/ on the S3 overwriting the existing one:
http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/antminer/s3/4.6.0-140908/cgminer

Wow if this works as I'm sure it will I think we owe ckolivas a BIG thank you.

Will give it a shot. Expect a tip to your BTC address ckolivas ! Smiley

Exactly. Meaning everyone using Bitmain hardware is at risk having their hashing power redirected to a different pool without their knowing, losing valuable BTC to a third, unscrupulous party/person.

Not good.

But wouldn't the attacker have to know or have some information about your miner? Such as IP, etc?
649  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: September 06, 2014, 08:54:18 PM

All of my 15 Antminer S3   (Batch 4-6) work great with this new firmware.

I'll wait until they sort out the MD5 problem. Can you tell me what version cgminer is in there? Cheers.

the same, 3.12.0

What? Why on earth are Bitmain still using this old, outdated, inefficient & security flawed cgminer version in a new firmware release? It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.....

@ Bitmain:  You promised the community that you would update to the latest cgminer version that fixes the security vulnerabilities and includes many improvements weeks ago - yet you are still using it in a brand new firmware release? Cgminer version 3.12 is not safe to use & is inefficient - please use the latest version as you promised us you would.

Edit:  This firmware adds support for the S3+ - does that mean that you will be shipping all S3+'s with known security issues & outdated cgminer software?

Could you elaborate on what the security issues are, and what you mean by ineffecient?

I don't mean to be lazy, but if I read through the boards on these issues I'll likely find lots of conflicting information.

Security issues... What if I'm behind a Barracuda Firewall?

Inefficiency... Meaning a more current version of Cgminer would hash faster?

Many thanks,

Strato

652  Economy / Services / Re: Discount Bitcoin Mining Contracts - 30/60 Day Contracts --UNDER-MARKET RATES-- on: September 03, 2014, 07:31:57 PM
Do you accept escrow?

EDIT: why would anyone take up this offer? They would not ROI even if difficulty does not go up.

Compare the prices we are  offering to other services and sites. These prices are lower. Were also not forcing you into a 6 month or 1 year deal where ROI is impossible.

Difficulty could stall, it's already happening.

People want to mine other coins besides Bitcoin. You can mine any SHA 256 Coin.

Lastly, compare the cost of buying an Antminer, PSU, time to set it up, paying for electricity, etc...

It's, at least to our research the best deal out there.   Were getting prices higher than this, but all 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 day contracts. We're willing to take a small cut in what we make just to not have to hassle with constantly updating rig parameters.

No were not doing escrow. But look at my profile.  Look at my Twitter. I've been around for a long time, I'm not going to ruin my name over a small contract amount like this.

I'm US based. I run a decent sized farm. Legit. I'm not out to scam, just make my life a little less busy. Our miners are solid.

If you or anyone needs hash power, let us know.  We will come through. Our rigs are on BetaRigs. USER CoinRocket.

All 10/10 Reviews for rentals, and comments by renters prove than any issues (rare) we made good and refunded/accommodated. Customer Satisfaction Guranteed Smiley

This may seem quite obvious to some, but I can't work it out from your figures at all...

For the smallest package what is the expected BTC return per day?

Right now according to BitcoinWisdom dot com - the 2.850 THash would yield 0.05226  BTC /Day at current difficulty. Halve that for the 1.425 = 0.02613 / Day @ current difficulty.

Hi,
We would honor the promise of earlier shipping than Sept. 20th  Grin Grin Grin Grin
Today I saw the new price to 0.46 BTC but the price is again 0.58 BTC. when we can see a new price on S3?

Really where did you see that?  The website still says .58.

Well I really hope Bitmain gives thought to expediting out B8 of the S3.

We ordered quite a few B7 - Which are all working great; and they inspired us to buy 34 more in B8.  But it's beginning to look a bit dismal in terms of ROI if they don't ship until 9/20.

I'm certainly watching the L1 Release, but will wait to see how they do with B8 shipments before we throw down another 20 BTC (spent on B8) on the L1.

I was highly impressed with B7. The miners arrived right on time and work great. I hope BMT realizes the value of 'customers for life' and gets those orders out the door soon.

Keeping fingers crossed!

Wouldn't a delivery of sept 20 be "right on time"?

Just making a wild statement. You all bought a unit packaged for delivery on sept 20. Why are all you crazies in here complaining that on Sept 3 you have no shipment? Mind you, this has been going on for weeks regarding B8!

I wouldn't by any means complain if the delivery came on 9/20. I was aware of that at the time of purchase. BUT the website actually states "SHIPS BY 9/20 OR EARLIER"

I'm simply hoping for earlier Wink

656  Economy / Service Announcements / Private Mining Contracts - 60 Day Term - Limited Availability on: September 03, 2014, 03:52:12 PM
3 Month SHA-256 Bitcoin Mining Contracts

Hash away on the latest Batch 8 Antminer S3+ in our Super Cooled Server Room.

Private Control of your Miner over Web Portal

We are offering 90 day (3 Month) mining contracts using our AntMiner S3+ Farm. We rent our rigs on BetaRigs with great success, but would simply prefer to lock in slightly longer contracts than 2-7 days to ease the management on our end.

AntMiner S3+ are B8 (latest version).

All Contracts include hosting, Electric Costs, guaranteed uptime of 99%, and we handle all maintenance of the miners.  Includes 3 Pools with Failover, Latest Firmware, Redundant Internet and UPS Power Supplies.

Any downtime due to issues on our end (such as failed miner, internet outage) will be immediately compensated to the renter by overhashing - meaning you get instant higher hashrates to compensate for any downtime that's caused under our control. Other sites simply add time, which is not ideal for the renter as added time at the end is used at higher difficulties.

60 Day Contracts:

1.50BTC for the first dedicated T/hash (1000 g/hash)
1.00BTC for each additional T/hash

Please PM or Post Questions!

Discount Short Term 30 and 60 Day Bitcoin Mining Contracts

Hashing away on the latest Batch 7 Antminers in our Super Cooled Server Room.

Your Pool. You Control. Lock in under-market rates for 1-2 Month Leases.

We are offering 30 and 60 day mining contracts using our AntMiner S3 Farm. We rent our rigs on BetaRigs with great success, but would simply prefer to lock in slightly longer contracts than 2-7 days to ease the management on our end.

Because of this, were offering lock in rates at discounted prices not available on any of the current Rig Rental or Mining Hash Contract Sites.

AntMiners are B7 (latest version) and we will be dropping in an additional 34 Batch 8 upon delivery on 9/20.

All Contracts include hosting, Electric Costs, guaranteed uptime of 99%, and we handle all maintenance of the miners.  Includes 3 Pools with Failover, Latest Firmware, Redundant Internet and UPS Power Supplies.

30 Day Contracts Available:

1.425 T/Hash     ---     0.02 BTC / Ghash / Day   =   30 Day Contract Starting 9/6:     0.85 BTC
2.850 T/Hash     ---     0.0195 BTC / GHash / Day =  30 Day Contract Starting 9/6:     1.66 BTC

60 Day Contracts Available:

1.425 T/Hash     ---     0.0178 BTC / Ghash / Day   =   60 Day Contract Starting 9/6:     1.52 BTC
2.850 T/Hash     ---     0.0173 BTC / GHash / Day =  60 Day Contract Starting 9/6:     2.95 BTC

We have a limited number of contracts available - but will be adding 34 Additional AntMiner S3+ Units the last week of September. At that time we will open up larger contract options.

Terms:  First Available Contracts will begin on 9/6/2014.  Renter may specify 3 pools and their failover/hash options. Renter may change pool settings via request by Email up to 3 times per week. We guarantee OVER hashrate and 99% Uptime. Any downtime due to technical problems on our end or maintenance will be immediately credited to Renter with backup miners (Added Hashrate) as soon as service resumes should any downtime occur. (Basically we credit hashrate right away so the renter catches up immediately rather than adding time to the end of rental).  Renter must provide us with their primary pool and up to (2) backup pools including worker ID and Password.

Please PM or Post Questions!

Well the B7 units we ordered (6) are all working just as they should. Very easy setup and the fact you can essentially clone the settings to other units makes it a snap when setting up multiple Antminer S3s.

QUESTION:

We have a few of these available for rent on rigrental websites - one of our units is seeing "Spikes" in Hashrate...

As in it normally hashes at speed - then suddenly the charts show a spike in hash - to the tune of 20-30 TeraHash (not a type-o). So the "average" rental hash ends up being insanely high... As in - it normally hashes at 460 ghash - then spikes to 40 thash - so on a 6 hour rental the average comes in around 5 or 6 terahash.

This is only happening on 1 of our 6 units.

Interesting though. Not sure yet if it's a chart glitch - or if in fact the unit is actually bursting to that speed for just a few seconds.

Anyways - good work BitMain!  Units are hashing just like they should! Smiley

Strato

PS. Before anyone freaks and is like how is that possible - I'll do some further tests - my gut says it's simply a chart error on the website.
