641  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: April 11, 2014, 12:09:37 PM
I'm following this launch with great interested and I'm keen to know does anyone who's invested in this coin even know what day of the week it is?  Grin

What is that supposed to mean ?

Are you being ironic?

Sounds to me like it's doomed from the start unless people really never realize that there better things out there than bitcoin.

People usually use what the far majority of people are using. Most people use Bitcoin because it is most widely accepted and pretty much the reserve currency of cryptocurrencies. Whether it is inferior to something else or not, people are (still) using it most -- just like you and me are too, you see.

It depends how you look this, someone could easily say that bitcoin are used only by tiny population and havent gained any significant market share in terms of transactions or fees in financial markets or as a currency system...

Client have to be easily accessible, meaning that general people could adopt and use it. Notebooks and desktop computers aint nowadays even used in every household, i know many folks who just mainly use their tablets and smartphones. I dont know about rest of the world, but in Finland banks have very sophisticated clients/internetbanks and with all the NFC and other mobile payments systems, competition is fierce.
Certainly NEM have to be better than those systems of we want to create complete currency system/finance platform.
We definitely shouldn't forget about smartphone users here. It's a vast and growing market.

+1000

It should be web based and with apps to IOS, Android and Windows. Nowadays every bank has their on app and Visa has one etc, so NEM should have it too. Hopefully i trust that our devs intend to make a ease accessible client.

IMO Cryptocurrencies as a whole focus too much in in-group aspects, with all these meetings, dick riding and cult of personality like satoshi etc.

645  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT VS NEM on: April 04, 2014, 11:02:01 AM
Its quite funny to read this thread. Seriously both of these coin valuations are based on speculations and promises, it could be take years to see if either of these coins will manage to be real currency.
I hope that NEM maybe that one, but it is not even sure that any of these cryptocurrencies will even be that popular. Many of these writers sounds like some cult leaders or religious wackos with their prophecies. Rather funny is also that majority of these btt writers will sale their cryptos to Fiat money if then they can make a fortune...

If you are willing to read some journals or books about behavioural finance, im pretty sure you will find quite of bit similarities with current behavioural in cryptocurrency markets and dynamics of behavioural finance.

Even bitcoin is at the moment niche-product and how these nxt or NEM guys are so sure that 2.0 coins will be the "thing" Sounds like narrow minded though, because i can figure that in 2015 someone will create or claim to create generation 3.0 cryptocurrencies and so on...

I think that ongoing development is really something new. Just look at the screenshots and some of the ideas in NEM, especially with NCC, cos many coins are something that avarage persons does'nt understand or could easily use.
Meaning that, they are made by coders to the techpersons, but not actually with great UX or ease of use.

Huge community, great devs and with promising NCC (nemcommunityclient) it could be the coin in 2014.

Regarding 2nd stage investments, have it allready started or did i miss something. Really looking forward to invest little amount on it. After reading the whitepapers and with escrow this could be huge opportunity, thought of course it allways risky business, but this project seems like legit one.
651  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should IPOs be banned from the site? Poll on: April 02, 2014, 05:29:53 AM
This is gettin funny.

How come someone hope the IPO ban and promote Pow-system at the same time, which as a system is very exclusive.

Quote from: zeronominal

"There seem to be two proposals, neither of which seem like particularly good ideas:

1) Proposal for hybrid POS/PON: Non-linear proof of stake rewards. Rewards are effectively per account up to a threshold. Seems ripe for exploitation by botnets.
2) Proposal for POI: Seems to be the Google Page Rank algorithm (i.e. Principal Components) with transactions replacing links between webpages, and the sum of coin ages replacing the content quality measure (i.e. the prior distribution over nodes). Seems equally vulnerable to exploitation by botnets. (Suppose there are N legitimate nodes, all trading, N botnet nodes, not trading, and 1 master node for the botnet. The botnet nodes have arbitrarily old coins so receive substantial weight, despite their lack of any trading except with the master. All of this weight then flows to the 1 master node for the botnet, who must then get the highest "PageRank" in the network.) In any case, rewarding old coins is the opposite of what you want to do. The existence of old coins implies that the currency isn't actually being used! By rewarding old coins you're effectively taxing transactions, which imposes a large efficiency cost."

Hmm, could our dev take a look at this subject?

now that you have officially stated the conditions for the second stage of the ipo, let me be the first one to ask critical questions about your proceeding.

note that i am asking this qestions under the asumption that the upper cap of the 230 btc for the second stage will be reached, but as you obviously assume that yourselves according to the follwoing statement my questions have a right to exist.

Is it possible that an early bird adapter gets less EXO for 1 btc then a second-stage adapter [...].
[...] it is very unlikely that this will be really the case. We are expecting an steady increase in attention and investments over the time till launch.

why do you think that an early bird investor deserves a whopping 67% more eXo for his investment compared to a potential investor of the 2nd stage?

even if you consider a 67% advanatage for early birds to be fair, why do you insist on the upper cap for the second stage instead of using the formula
Code:
(1.67 * early bird investment + second stage investment)/(1.67 * all early bird investments + all second stage investments) * 42000000,
which gets rid of the upper cap, but sill yields the same 67% advantage for early birds?

Sounds fair to me. Otherwise, what was the point of being an early bird?

Early bird's take more risk than late adopters, so they should get a bigger share.

How you calculate that early investor, which is in this case  just investor couple of months earlier, should have rewarded that much ?

Zeronominal check this coin, it will use Proof of importance (POI). If you check it, could you shares your views about it. NEM tries to be next big thing in world of cryptos

67% prosent more to early birds for what? Seriously they just found this coin little earlier and with escrow and promise to refund it is now that risky.

 Huh

For to the devs, it might be good to look at what this fella have said. In that topic OP tries to focus cryptocurrencies from macro-ecomics view and as i understand his points are quite interesting.
658  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Proposal from a macroeconomist for an optimal crypto-currency on: March 27, 2014, 10:54:30 PM
Interesting view, its pretty clear that there is urgent need of this kind of conversation. Personally i would love to read about cryptocurrencies in some of those ecomics journals. I know that people here are mainly tech-people but as for a currency IMO it is mandotory to use macro-ecomic theories when developing a currency. As OP wrote there is many issues related to interest rates.

As far as i know, i havent either saw much of debate how bitcoin and alts will succeed in global financial markets and espacially how the bitcoin deal with in terms of debt and leverage. My language skills are quite weak so i hope that you get my point.

I think that we can move this utopiannow guy to another thread or just complete ignore him. I see that effort to gain decent minority of NEM shares against the principles of this coin. And i dont like the way he used similary nickname with Original UP, that could be misleading.

At this point of development i cant see any real gains to sell stakes to someone, who maybe have bad intentions. I tried to ask which are his real calculations about NEMs valuation and he came back with answer 10% of nxt. I mean if thats anyway true, why on earth that same guy wanna buy 400 shares.

And as for puplic this thread should focus on news, suggestions about NEM future and bright ideas. Community base is Huge so these guys can put up another thread and continue their debat here. NEM is supposed be a whole new cryptocurrency so i would love to read about current process, not that kind of bullshit what utopiannow is spamming everyday.

No Envy Movement

Fairness and equality?

Are u mad, cos your shady little plan isnt goin like you thought? I mean, with this kind of coin you thought that it would be good idea to put such a scheme and openly brag about taking over 400 stakes, which of course would bring resistance against you. That doesnt sound well-planned or anyway constructive.
