642  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt marketing & promotion :: Nxt is now 100% Open Source! And on Cryptsy! on: March 08, 2014, 09:03:47 PM
Wikipedia should not be used to promote yourself. I hope the article gets deleted soon.

Nxt should be promoted in mainstream media. It needs to become notable. Once that is done, it will show up in Wikipedia -- without you doing anything.

I hate when Wikipedia is abused for self promotion

Sorry?
Have u ever looked at the article I wrote? >>> http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nxt

I invested more then seven hours to write, translate and compare the different cryptocurrency-articles in the german wikipedia to strike the right note.
This was not just a copy of an early article! As you can see it is already reviewed and with some little changes now allowed to stay.
It is absolutely crazy that there was in this stadium no article!

Do you really think somebody who is not interested in cryptocurrencies will write articles about it in wikipedia? No. People with interests have to start it and others will review them and so on... there is nothing wrong about starting articles of your own interests. This is integral in the logical wiki-structure.

This one seems to have slipped through my net completely!
Can we get translators on this ASAP?

And thanks to w4llace!
643  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 08, 2014, 07:47:12 PM
This is largely true, but I am applying how cash is legislated (at least here in the U.S) to crypto and I'm pretty certain that setting up a USD mixing service would be stopped immediately and the proprietors would possibly be prosecuted for violating money laundering laws.

No one is going to care about small transactions. But if there's a way to make large amounts of money untraceable (which is also very very difficult to do with cash as well) using crypto-currency then I can guarantee that powerful forces will put a stop to it or at least make it a very dark and dangerous activity to engage in. I'm not risking my freedom so I can buy a beer with my cell phone.

I think the mixing will be an add on layer on top of the Nxt as the gateways and it can be located in any where. Users can stay away from it if they are afraid because of government's regulations.

I am totally fine with that.

Guess what? I'm fine with that too. No need to insult people after all. Cheesy

Hugs?

I love the fact that Emule is against private payments Smiley
Good attitude for an investor, that.
645  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 08, 2014, 07:24:30 PM
Found an interesting link. Nxt community became a victim of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ringelmann_effect, IMHO.

I shall tell you what is wrong in this community!

If you pay one person 40,000 NXT /month for stealing more nxt and sit on his ass whole day typing crap that get us nowhere, and hard working members getting nothing

what do you think other members will do? Right nothing than waiting to sell out and leave nxt behind

When will it get through to your skull that the 40,000 isn't a community payment?
It's done by a private person, and it's his right.
Or are you denying private persons the right to spend where they want to?

I just had a bit of an overwhelming meeting with the outside investor.

He is the creator and owner of this/these projects:

https://www.trackprotect.com/
http://www.sustainsound.org/
http://www.rhosmovement.com/

Basically, he wants to use Nxt as a vehicle for his business and to power his system of distributing music.

I just spent two hours talking with him and he is immensely energetic and serious about this.

He sees the potential úse of Nxt and digital property and talks will continue.

From both a marketing perspective as a purely investment perspective, this could be a significant step forward for Nxt!

Music is the #1 attracting factor for users anywhere and we would be tapping into a worldwide userbase with these guys.

Even better is that his development cycle is almost finished already (I saw his already working product) and he is looking for a good "fit".

He is OK with me sharing this, because he wants to be open about his project. Have a look and see what it is all about.

Girls 'n boys,

I don't know why until now there exists no Wikipedia-Article about NXT in the main Wikipedias (English, German, Netherlands, Swedish, etc.)?
Besides our own wiki these are the simplest and I think the easiest possibilities for marketing! John Doe will search the internet for NXT if he heres the first time about it.
People in this thread may think that Wikipedia isn't a trustworth source (especially for financial decision), but for the normal guy in the neighborhood it is more suspicious if there is NO article about a unknown cryptocurrency in his native language at Wikipedia instead of there is JUST an article there Wink

I hereby (I like this word, yeah) invite all of you to write an NXT-article in the main Wikipedias or just contribute a small piece of text (could be a improvement of a false info or a big chapter about a special function of NXT) there.

To set a good example I created in the last hours the structure of the german article (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nxt_(W%C3%A4hrung)) and filled some of the parts with information.
It is far away from being perfect and somebody should immediatly have a look about my lousy compilation, but it is a start!

I'm willing to create some infographics for the wiki-articles - please write me a PM with your ideas!

we had one but it was deleted b/c it "looked too much like advertising"  so not sure how to make one that they would accept

Good point. I changed the chapter title "myths" in "critic", now it looks more serious Wink

It was branded as advertising because all the links were from us.
That is how they judge a page to be biased.
If you include enough links that are from outside sources, it might stay up.

Just be sure not to just link to our own sites.
And also keep an eye on the page discussion page to see what reactions there are.

Is it safe to use weshleys awesome interface in the main net?

EDIT: More importantly, with a real account.

From the web interface

Log in with your TestNet account - not your real one!

From wesleyh's post on nextcoin:

I advise you to only connect to testnet (it is set as default) for now.

Guys what about the distribution?
Somebody was revealing top 60 accounts holdings spreadsheet a month ago for a week or so. Did the distribution change any since? It is well obvious that we have whales unloading and keeping the price down for last couple of weeks.
It would be interesting to see these distribution numbers at the moment.

i can tell you they are selling like crazy.

now they sell slowly not to trigger panic
one problem...

when panic starts and they all running to the exit.. that door will be way to smal. to bad for the bagholders DISASTER!

imagine sell off millions and millions in few minuts aaaaand its gone.

this will unfold within one week

look for price nxt 0.000000000

when can we expect rewards for wiki's translation? Smiley

I'm very sorry -- I missed seeing the deposit from the marketing fund and haven't been into this thread for a few days!

Bounties have been calculated and are being sent out this evening, time-allowing.  See this spreadsheet for full info.

Thank you, joefox. Have you decided to pay 15000 bounty for February wiki's translation even though total February score is almost the same as in January?

I had nothing to do with the decision to pay 15000. I asked for 50000.

I was wondering about this, too.
654  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt marketing & promotion :: Nxt is now 100% Open Source! And on Cryptsy! on: March 07, 2014, 04:23:20 PM
Update on the branding:

- I have been terribly frustrated this week, because the people I asked didn't deliver
- Today, I decided to call them again and give them a last chance to come up with something to actually show and use.
- The agreement I have with them now is that I decide if it's good enough to form a basis to continue work, or to stop.
- If I think it's good enough, I will show it here. If it is not, i will inform you here.

I find it very frustrating to work with people who don't deliver and am quite angry right now.

This weekend we wíll have an answer to this and I sincerely hope it will work out.
If not, my commitment stands, and I will continue in a different way to work on this, as it ís important!

 Angry

Could you please elaborate on exactly wht it is these guys are supposed to do?

Provide a comprehensive branding package for Nxt.

656  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 07, 2014, 03:35:29 PM

We will only get the attention of the mass community of Bitcoiners if we come up with a marketing theme / campaign that engages people to adopt NXT.  The will not adopt NXT because it is better or technically superior.  They will only adopt NXT if it meets a need of theirs that Bitcoin does not already currently meet.

We could focus on the decentralized asset exchange. It is something for selfish, technical interested or financial people.

The average people doesn't care that it could sell its stocks using AE...

The dialog should be like this:
We: With NXT and its AE you can do <some specific, really useful stuff in the daily life>, bam!
People: Really? I can do that with NXT? How can I get some NXT?

+1.  This.  Pay attention to this.

Somehow in my gut I feel like this NXT conversation, when it happens, will have something to do with smartphones - probably iPhones.  One of the people I talked to (a group of two guys, actually) claimed to have the only Bitcoin wallet for iPhone because the Apple Store has kicked Bitcoin out of the Apple App ecosystem.  They exploited a clever loophole - an organization can send apps to its members.  So they set up a membership plan which qualifies you to download a group Bitcoin Wallet that is not available to the general public.  Clever.  Maybe NXT could do the same and become the iPhone Cryptocurrency app.

BUT FIRST WE GOTTA GET MERCHANTS TO ACCEPT NXT.  I am going to be doing some research into this, stay tuned.

One last big lesson from Texas Bitcoin Conference - perhaps the bigget one of all.  People want to hear confident leaders on a stage.  People want to hear confident leaders  on a stage.  People want to hear confident leaders  on a stage.

Until NXT can provide these, we are in the ditch.

Man, I wish it was tomorrow, because I have a business meeting with an outside investor who wants to use an AE coin for something quite mainstream, very mobile, very smartphone and the like.
I will be setting up wesleyh's client tonight and show him the Testnet tomorrow at noon.

I cannot go into details at the moment, but I already have confirmation from l8orre that he wants to help out with this.

I am not surprised in the least that tech doesn't interest people.

I hope I will make you and a few others very happy by tomorrow afternoon Smiley

Could somebody sent TestNxt to the  ....
- if someone needs testNXTs - ask them here: https://forums.nxtcrypto.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=832&p=4237#p4237

So embarrassingly enough, I can't remember my nxtcrypto pw, with no reset button. Who should I contract about this?

Just to save time (sorry), here is my testnet account:

No, nothing specific; Anything I can help with. I have strengths in writing/ publishing, sales/ marketing/ customer relations. I am new to NXT and have little technical knowledge. Not very strong in computer techs but I am a fast learner if someone doesn't mind answering questions. But generally will do what ever anyone needs help with.

And honestly meant no offense. But I think it would help if there were a way to find out what is going on and if there is anyone in need of help. Or if there is such a place that it be easier to access or more publicized.

If you are interested and n writing, look at least in the marketing thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=412243.new#new

There are bounties for articles and sites.

You might also want to talk to apenzl from the Next Newsletter: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=198847

He and I are working on a comprehensive news site and writers are sought.

And again:I don't take offense and can understand i's difficult to find things. I am glad you want to do things!

Feel free to contact me in PM with questions. Going to sleep now, but will answer when I can Smiley

I didnt say that people should become devs. I said TEST. ANYBODY can test.

All this complaining is getting me depressed. Maybe I shouldnt bother with any of the projects I am doing.
All people seem to do is complain about this, a release is not done, I dont get anything from forging, blah, blah blah
I am working 18hr days trying to bring significant improvements, but if this is the attitude people have and they wont be forging because it doesn pay them enough, then why am I bothering?

STOP COMPLAINING
START HELPING

Is that too much to ask?

For people that want to earn stuff from forging, there is nodecoin. That should be end of story on that issue. Not only do you help secure the network, you will get nodecoins. Unless I get so depressed from all this nonsense that I dont bother making nodecoin. Is that what you want?

James

You are appreciated James. I do understand your frustrations. Is there anyway, that I can help? I am not a coder, and really not all that skilled with computers, so that will limit what I am able to do as far as helping on your end of things. But I will help how I can.

If I could make a suggestion, it should be a point of interest for someone to organize and administrate the community in such a fashion as to facilitate helping, as you suggest. If there were a clear and pointed way for people to be able to get involved and to use skills and talents they posses it may eliminate some of the complaining. It seems as though there are a lot of active people in the NXT community. That is evident from all of the complaining. Cheesy Someone should set some goals and get these people organized to some purpose. This should be a purpose of the new commitees. A wise captain knows that idleness is the seed of mutiny.

Please read my post above.
There are plenty of tasks and projects to organize. Pick one and "do the needfull" as my indian collegues say Smiley

Where is the list of tasks that need to be done? who is in charge and how do I apply? Or should I just spend my time doing what ever comes to mind and hope that it is something that will be of use and coordinated with what is going on in the community and not just a waste of my time? I would like to help, but what specifically can I do to help? Who do I need to contact? What is the process for getting involved? Is there a process or does everyone just do what every they feel like doing and make no effort to work together? Tell me what I can do or show me were to find out.

My way is to just to contact the person that makes the posts.
I work together with many people. Just approach them and offer your help. PM works best, in most cases, otherwise it gets "washed  away" in this thread Wink

Some groups use IRC or other systems for coordination, or google docs. Whatever works.
Some groups are looser than others. You can always step out as long as you don't commit to something and then leave. That's always bad form.

Are you looking for something specific?
