641  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Africa May Leapfrog Traditional Banking on: April 10, 2015, 02:52:11 PM
Africa may leapfrog...

That would be cool, except most Africans are still living in huts and flinging shit at each other.

Wow that's a fairly ignorant statement, I take it you're trolling?

OpenBazaar 0.4 is coming Wink

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/321sx0/brace_yourselves_openbazaar_04_is_coming/

Quote
Previous betas have had difficulty connecting to the network without port forwarding, and also had problems with stability. This 0.4 beta moved to a rUDP network, which won't require port forwarding for most users, and it also is way more stable.

It also has quite a few new features, such as an internal messaging system for nodes that are online, switching over to HD keys for signing, and the ability for notaries to charge fees and send refunds to buyer or release payments to seller (in case of dispute or non-responsive party).

Edit: To be clear, there is still a lot of work to get to a full release, but this is the largest step forward we've taken so far.

More up-to-date stuff here:  https://np.reddit.com/r/OpenBazaar/
643  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is just to complicated for the average person to use.. on: April 09, 2015, 12:02:54 PM
definitely not true, it's very easy for anyone to use it, it is only difficult to understand the technical aspects of it

and obtaining bitcoin is easy too, the problem is more related to taxes than anything else

Think that's the point of the thread, the average user wont need (nor would be interested) to understand the technical aspects of bitcoin. The actual sending/receiving btc part is just a few mouse clicks and a password, the hardest part from what I see is making sure the wallets are in a secure environment and completely foolproof.
644  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hello Is there any genuine Bitcoin Multiplier ? on: April 09, 2015, 11:20:20 AM
If there was a genuine btc multiplyer (which there isn't), none of us would have heard about it as the creator would just keep it to themselves so they can get filthy rich. The multiplier scams you hear on youtube etc are at best useless, worst they contain malware.
645  Economy / Services / Re: Contest for Coin Design on: April 09, 2015, 09:45:44 AM
Please consider using an escrow, there have been far too many coin/logo competitions where designers have be left without a single satoshi (not implying you wouldn't pay).
646  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is strategy on: April 09, 2015, 09:37:51 AM
Seems like a good plan batman! Trying to keep up with all the latest developments, legislation, alt currencies etc is a full time job and can be a lot of arse-ache when you have to spend hours sifting through bullsh*t to find the right information on a particular topic. If I was in a position to have a similar setup I'd do it straight away. See you on the moon.

647  Other / Politics & Society / Re: “Smart Meters” Being Used In Cali To Crack Down And Find People “Wasting Water”… on: April 08, 2015, 03:12:09 PM
Well, I certainly don't like the idea, but California is getting drier and drier. Something must be done, and making people consume less of it makes a lot of sense.

Can only see the situation getting worse in the future and something does need to be done. Personally I haven't got too much of a problem with smart meters as long as it doesn't get to the stage where a government official is watching me take a shit to make sure I don't flush twice.

Corps like McDonalds and Big Agro are making a much larger drain on the water table than the residents, they certainly shouldn't be exempt from meters unless they can prove they have decent water efficiency (like McDonalds using astroturf instead of grass).
648  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is Open Bazaar up and running ? on: April 08, 2015, 02:56:08 PM
Open bug bazaar is the new name.

It's still in beta so you can't expect miracles, try it out for yourself here Wink https://github.com/OpenBazaar/OpenBazaar

The Website is not working!

https://openbazaar.org/ is working fine for me.
649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DEA Agents in Silk Road Case Face Fraud Charges on: April 08, 2015, 02:41:56 PM
The journal and the chat logs were not "generated and supplied" by the two officers and the decision to "kill" instead of "beating up" was Ross' very own idea. Just having the opportunity to pay a hitman was enough for him to actually do this. Not a hero at all to me...

Next time you quote my posts instead of simply stealing them, please ...

lol that's the second time today I've seen members copy pasting previous comments, really hope this isn't the start of a new trend of shitposting! sig campaigners already get enough flak without spammers duplicating other people's posts.

650  Other / Politics & Society / Re: cop shoots man in the back on: April 08, 2015, 01:17:29 PM
cop's saying the guy took his taser and shot him with it, evidence still looks pretty daming either way

I'm sure the cop would say anything to cover his ass, shooting that guy running away in the back is one of the most cowardly things I've ever seen. There's no way the cop could have felt threatened it that situation, at very most he could have fired just a warning shot.
651  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how about removing ALL computers on: April 08, 2015, 12:46:52 PM
@OP

Your questions have already been answered, there's absolutely no need to worry about bitcoin being lost.
652  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Neobase decentralised social network! on: April 08, 2015, 12:15:54 PM
When someone says “decentralized social network”, I can only remember StatusNet and identica. A nice idea, but not much success in my opinion.

I almost forgot about that- the 2010 version of status.net looks better than the current one IMO. There was also a project called diaspora...

Was just about to mention diaspora, i've seen it mentioned a few times here and there but I never got round to signing up.

https://diasporafoundation.org/

Personally haven't got much need for social networks etc but it's nice to know there are alternatives to Facebook.

653  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DEA Agents in Silk Road Case Face Fraud Charges on: April 08, 2015, 11:50:11 AM
My thought on all this yes silk road was a dark market but im pretty sure this agents made users do even worst stuff from what their normal operations where at some point.

Cops and federal agents have been framing fake charges from time immemorial. The same has happened in the case of Silk Road as well.

There was another case recently (think I saw it on reddit) where undercover feds set up a honeypot selling arms on a dark market. The buyer ended up going getting arrested (though there was no talk of entrapment).

Framing, entrapment and corruption seem to be the hallmarks of modern day federal agents.

Who's watching the watchmen?  Wink
654  Other / Meta / Re: Please remove the Digital Goods section on: April 04, 2015, 09:23:44 AM
Seems a bit drastic removing the digital section completely, if you suspect there are threads selling dodgy software keys just report them to the mods so that they can be removed. The hard part is proving that they are not legit...
655  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where can I buy Bitcoins with my phone? on: April 04, 2015, 09:07:15 AM
I need some BTC (~$4) but the only money I have access to is the credit on my phone at the moment. Is there anywhere I can so so?
Cheers.

As far as I'm aware, there is no service that allows you to buy btc with your remaining phone credit. If you have any spare pre-paid cards, you could try selling them for btc.
656  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Factom, are you going to buy it? on: April 02, 2015, 01:32:24 PM

The presale has raised 780 BTC+ so far, and it has just started. At least the hype is there.

A fool and his bitcoin are easily parted Wink

I wont be investing a single satoshi,  every ICO is a scam until proven otherwise.
657  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk down on: April 02, 2015, 01:03:48 PM

I can confirm that this is actually true. In fact, being a scammer is one of the criteria to becoming a mod here. When theymos asked if I wanted to be a mod he also asked "are you a scammer?". I said "yes" and he said "that's exactly what we're looking for; welcome to the team".

Hmm...April 1 is already over and today is 2nd April.

I didn't realize April the 1st is the only day of the year you're allowed to make a joke.

Yep Obama's signed an executive order, jokes are only allowed on April 1st. Any attempt of humour outside of that day will result in rendition to Gitmo Bay.
658  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk down on: April 02, 2015, 12:38:17 PM
Saw a few worrying statements on reddit.

Any truth in this? Can any hero or legendary members confirm of deny any truth in this?

Presumably this is aimed at mods here.

Here's one -

660  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paid a hooker in vegas using Bitcoin Saturday night on: April 01, 2015, 05:57:56 PM
Well this thread got ugly fast. I can't believe you're arguing about what prostitutes like to be called. I can settle this for you. In Clark County, which is where Las Vegas is located, prostitution is illegal. Because it's illegal they like to be called "escorts" and most charge between $300 and $500 an hour for things "on the menu". Off menu items can increase the price to as high as $10,000 an hour. You have to drive about 60 miles outside of Las Vegas to Nye County before prostitution is legal. In Nye County they're called prostitutes and have health and work permits.

"Escorts" is a different thing.

They are "High Quality Companions" in their way of setting things (which is not bad)

Apart from that, calling them escorts is not bad... try calling them hookers and see what happens  Wink

Same difference in the UK, whores (hookers) are stereotyped as the skanky crack-addled hoes you pick up from street corners whereas escorts are women who come round to your house and generally insist on using protection (no way would I go bareback Wink)

Professional escort services also regularly check their workers for STD's so you're less likely to catch any nasties.

Fabulous...
Though I have never had the need to acquire the services of an escort,
how do you think they would respond if you called them hookers?

No idea mate, as long as the money's good I doubt they would have too much of a problem.

@Gleb Can always trust you to sift through the bullshit Wink
