NSA showing proof they are behind Satoshi :?
That is the only thing that could be worse right now .

In Japan people usually write the family name first, so his name woud be written "Nakamoto Satoshi", or "N. Sa." for short.  Grin

You mean N.S., or do you suffer confirmation bias?

In kana, there is an "n" glyph and a "sa" glyph, but no "s" glyph

Good thing he's not writing in Kana but has instead anglicized the glyphs.

How can we rise $130. In less then 12 hours?

Bitcoin is built with sunshine and rainbows, with a bit of ground unicorn for good measure.

Eggs, scrambled. Side of bacon, please. Prefer English Muffins over toast if you have them. Grape jelly. Thanks.

To be honest I'm not the greatest fan of forums: there always seems to be this tyranny of age whereby the younger cohort bamboozle you with jargon and slang and the oldies take refuge in the fallacy that age equals wisdom (which seems to be some sort of syndrome when you hit 40).
I hear you. I have a love/hate relationship with this forum but I've been using forums since 1600 baud modems were all the rage and it's tough for a zebra to change its stripes.

For what its worth I never made any sports team or went to a 'prom' (or school disco as they were in the UK)...so, I've always enjoyed being an outsider  Grin
I kinda prefer "school disco." Sounds more fun. BTW, thank you for all the great rock and roll you blokes exported over the years!

LOL...imagine I'm old enough to be your father.
Interesting that you thought I was young based on the fact I care for the environment, its sad that younger people are so cynical about caring for the Earth.  I don't know if you saw my post with regard to the oil 'fact' I quoted but I'm sorry, being up to date on the US oil export figures isn't my biggest priority.

Just joshing with you. I don't care how old you are. I'm over the hill myself. I didn't really think you were 19, I was trying to clarify my point that it had been a long time since the US was a net exporter. I don't even think 19 year olds are in high school unless they'd been held back.

Pretty sure gox will be dead within a month or two

If I only had a bitcoin for every time I've heard this...

Normally I agree with you. This time is different. Mark is blaming his failures at operating a business on the reason he has a business in the first place. It's just bad marketing.

You have no argument from me that Gox doesn't provide good PR or that Mark may not be best suited as the public face of Gox however he bought an unwanted exchange (from a person who went on to build another one which failed) and turned it into an honest money gushing enterprise. It very simply was the economic backbone of the Bitcoin universe for a number of years. Gox helped make the Bitcoin economy what it is today.

Mark had challenges that caused him to close his doors for days/weeks but he always re-opened. He was (and may still be) a beacon of trustworthiness in a community nearly bereft of it.

He's guilty of the sin of being nerdy in a world that loves to point and laugh. He may have been quick to rush to judgment against some in order to protect his business. And now he's earned the ire of the ADHD children of the Bitcoin community by blaming his bad judgement on the protocol's weakness. Yet how many exchanges have now "adjusted their software" since Mark spoke out?

I haven't quite counted him out yet. If he manages to guide Gox back from the brink he will have *the* exchange to trust. If he absconds with the treasure it would surprise me, and I'm pretty jaded.

You think I'm 19!!!
That's fantastic (when you get to my age any hint of youth, however misplaced, is always welcome).

How did you fair in last week's high school football game? Are you going to the prom this year?

Just saw this near my house. Blood in the street. Coincidence? Omen? Statistic probability?

This is quite obviously street art. It is a beautiful butterfly. I believe it means "BUY!"

The point I'm trying to make is that the malleability issue cannot be easily or quickly fixed, and the work-arounds have consequences themselves and take us a step-backwards in usability.  This will all be resolved eventually, but in the meantime, we've presented the forum trolls with an all-you-can-eat smorgasbord of troll food.

Years ago I recall the conversations about how safe zero conf transactions were for small amounts because "who would want to race attack for a soda from a vending machine?" While actual race attacks and double spends and all this are different attack vectors from this malleability issue, I remember thinking, "if there's a vulnerability someone will attack it." Because... humans.

But I figure Bitcoin is in beta. Bitcoin *is* high risk, still, and for some time yet. Folks much smarter than me are working to keep it strong. I'm confident devs'll work it out. And as "smart phones" became "just phones," the "smart wallets" you talked about in your post will just be regular wallets that account for all the security silliness. Eventually.

Usability is almost always sacrificed at the beginning stages of development. It's a can that keeps getting kicked down the road. The issue is that most developers seem to have a preternatural disdain for usability. They "just want it to work." This is rightly important, at first.

Seeing both sides of the code vs. art world, I believe it is usually because backend deveoplers work incredibly hard at the magic it takes to make highly functional software. Then, once it works smoothly, someone comes along and says, "yeah, interesting, but i won't use it because it looks like a child made it. It could use some panache. The buttons are too square. How about some gradients and such?"

The truth is that people can get by without an overly usable product, sometimes for a long while. Amazon was horrid for a while and even now isn't much to look at. If someone comes along with the same functionality plus better usability then the first to market may not survive. MySpace was a neat idea but a gargantuan mess, then Facebook came along which was a step up (and continues to improve). Awesome usability plus great functionality can change a marketplace.

i have my own bio-diesel processor in my VW campervan - last year i travelled 2000 miles in Europe just using used cooking oil from restaurants - which cost me nothing at all - and i will be leaving the cold UK to do the same in 2 weeks time..Portugal here we come.

You, sir, are awesome. Unfortunately I must tell you that I noticed from over here in the U.S. that you smell a bit like french fries (perhaps you know them as chips). I will not let that come between our friendship however, mostly because I smell like sweaty bum nuts so I have trouble making friends.

consumers will be made to pay at the pump (charging station). Guaranteed.

Of course, except now one's pump can be at home. After materials it is free-ish. I suppose it's only fair to include the cost to replace batteries (if used), panels, etc. in one's own solar charger at whatever interval required. This is the "ish" part. Maybe $2000 every 20 years...? $100 a year?

By comparison it is a rare individual who has his own oil rig and gas refinery in his backyard producing free-ish energy for himself.
