A possible cause of what you are seeing.
How the bitcoin URI code works is that when you click on a link:
1) The OS starts up a multibit instance with the required bitcoin uri as a parameter. 2) As only one copy of multibit runs per machine (see below) the new instance of multibit checks if there is another multibit instance open and, if there is, passes the parameter to that instance and then shuts down. This is done over a socket. 3) The existing instance then deals with the bitcoin URI.
It is possible that in your URI testing you got a copy of multibit running in the background which would give similiar symptoms to what you were experiencing. If you close down any copy of multibit running and look in Task Manager: if there is a java instance running with about 100 MB of memory space running that is most likely a 'lurking' MultiBit. Just kill it.
The reason only one copy of MultiBit runs at a time is that it is frequently writing to your wallets when you get new transactions etc. To avoid nasty filelocking bugs it is simpler to enforce only a single instance running.
Yea I think is what most likely happened. Thanks for the explanation.

Rarity, augustocroppo and mlawrence please continue your debate elsewhere and quit clogging up this thread. I had to split the discussion between Matthew and Chaang-Noi here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=97141.0 and it's a PITA to do so. Looks like you forgot one person. LOL You got a point there. Bruno, please stop clogging up this thread, and make one of yours. And probably name it 'The Hunt for Zhou Tong - Uncovering the man behind Bitcoinica' or something like that. So should the title of the thread be changed to: "Anything but possible suspects of the recent Bitcoinica hack"?

I think that at this point we can safely move away from the idea that Zhou Tong is some 17-year-old kid. I believe that the only reason funds are trickling back is because Kevin Lim has a lot at stake, and it's his reputation that is at risk, not a made-up avatar named Zhou Tong.
Now, who is going to be the first to disprove that Zhou Tong = Kevin Lim?
~Bruno~
I and the user dishwara already figured this out at page 22 and 23, post #427 and #452. You, the "we", are more than late. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=95795.msg1063040#msg1063040Also when i read all his posts, i don't think he is 17 year old person. He using English language very well & not typing as a normal 17 year old do , like using smileys, acronyms....slang language, meme.... I think he must be at least 25+ years old to type with out using any normal 17 guys use to chat. His replies shows a professionalism. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=95795.msg1063434#msg1063434There is a ghost writer following the instructions of another person which dictates every answer. Once we get an consensus that Kevin Lim = Zhou Tong, we can move on to who's in cahoots with him. ~Bruno~ Now that we got those two to chill, John, perhaps we can see if there's a consensus that Kevin Lim = Zhou Tong. ~Bruno~ Wow, when did this happen? What ethnicity is Lim?

I introduce Stochastically.com, a resource for BTC denominated securities. Current Functions: Past 7 and 30 day dividend returns. hyperlinks to GLBSE asset pages scrollable and sortable dividend tables. Future Plans: 1. Add other exchanges as they become more accepted. For now only GLBSE is supported 2. Allow access to exchange trade history by date and security. 3. Have individual pages for each active security with information similar on Google Finance.

When will this transfer happen?

Hello! I jointly operate:
BMF: Bitcoin Mining Fund CPA: Crimson Permanent Assurance Insurance Company YARR: A Pirate Pass-through security NYAN: Nyancat Financial
I would very much like the following: 1. Logos (Poptart logo and logo with acronym and/or company name) for EACH company. 2. A banner image add for each company. Preferably something animated. Like that catchy Islamic Bank of Bitcoin add. That was good. I want somehting like that. 3. A poster add for each company which will fit in the sidebar of a normal wordpress theme. 2x as tall as it is wide, or so.
I am willing to PAY for this. Oh yeah, we're talking bitcoins here. I assume this is going to cost me 80 to 100 bitcoins for the whole package, but we can negotiate either way. Lets do it!
PM offers with a link to your portfolio and/or examples of your former work. This is a serious offer! We can do one company at a time. Thank you.
Do you have a link to the IBB banner?

It did not seem to be a symlink problem as I did not open Multibit before mounting the encrypted drive. To fix the problem I just re-opened each of the wallet files through Multibit.
The problem might have been from the bitcoin magnet links. I was testing out my own earlier in the day and after I closed Multibit it would not load the rest of the wallet files.
|
|
|
I have an encrypted volume that when mounted is loaded to the symlink where multibit looks for the wallet.dat files. It worked perfectly fine earlier today but now it fails to open my other .dat files that I have. It only will load the multibit.dat file and skips the others. When I remove this file multibit crashes.
Has anyone had this problem?
I am using Multibit version 0.4.4

Wow.... that's really nice... I couldn't find a donation address. Where can we send a couple of bitcoins if we want to donate to support this project? Thanks for reminding me, donation address is 15kSprJzSimzRsKC8s4Lh1qjjV1h7vWz9o

Hmmm, with all these failed sites, maybe I should insure my coins with CPA.

I had a bit of extra time over the weekend so I set up a site on a friend's server and put up the Dividend Return Table on the server. Just point your browser to http://www.stochastically.comI still have a lot to do to make it more usable like creating clickable links for the asset names but I feel it will be useful and see the server load I should expect in the future. The table is updated at about 20:00 EST. All the columns are sortable, just click the column title.

Lots of news!
General Announcements * Payouts for this week have been paid * Last week 37,000 bonds were sold bringing the total hashrate sold to 176,276 Mh/s * No BITBONDs will be issued beyond 100,000 bonds (200 Gh/s) * The final 11,862 are available to large investors (200 btc and above) * The 110% PPS special rate has ended as a part of the recent sale of bonds. BITBONDs will return to their 105% PPS rate for the foreseeable future
BITBOND ASIC Upgrade Program Announcement A while back I put in an ASIC order with BFL. Today I am announcing my plans for the BITBOND ASIC upgrade. I have shared the plan with large investors already and would like to have your feedback as well.
Here are the broad strokes. When the ASICs arrive, BITBONDs will be converted to BITBOND.ASIC. BITBOND.ASIC will be a 100% PPS bond and act just as BITBOND does today, except at a higher hash rate courtesy of the ASICs. All bondholders at the time of the conversion will receive a free upgrade. Bondholders have the option of a paid upgrade as well, as outlined below.
* Free: 2M/s BITBOND converts to 12.5Mh/s BITBOND.ASIC for free * Small upgrade: 2M/s BITBOND converts to 45Mh/s BITBOND.ASIC for 0.25 btc * Large upgrade: 2M/s BITBOND converts to 450Mh/s BITBOND.ASIC for 5.5 btc
The bond will continue perpetually. The bond issues reserves the right purchase back coupons at 110% of the 15 day average trading price on GLBSE. Since BITBOND will not be continued in perpetually (or will it stay around alongside BITBOND.ASIC?) will those that don't switch be purchased back at 110% of the 15 day average trading price?

1) zhoutong can refund the money he made from selling Bitcoinica to whoever it was and give it back to the clients of bitcoinica that lost money from his negligence. 2) If you can't read Chinese then translate it in google translate (if not I am sure you get the idea). If there is a Chen Jian hui (陈建海) then he can just search his name and bitcoin and find: http://cnbtcnews.com/bitcoin-news/economics/statement-about-the-suspect-of-recent-bitcoinica-hack.html周同指控陈建海才是黑客 2012年07月26日 ⁄ 经济 ⁄ 暂无评论 ⁄ 被围观 97+ 编译:cnbtcnews

I don't know whether I'm being really slow here or if you're not making sense, but what are you trying to say?
Someone posted a twitter link with an affiliate ID in it?
The godaddy code comes from the magazine Zhou used to write for and if I am understanding things PG has linked it to the same code being used on mybitcoin.com or related sites owned by the same people/s. So - tom williams owned both techxav and mybitcoin, and thats possibly how zhou tong heard about it At least thats my educated guess wow, is it possible all bitcoin hacks since 2011 are linked together and came from the same group of criminals... The Bitcoin Crime Syndicate? First they open up a website and collect not only coins from users, but also usernames and passwords. Then they claim the site failed and lost all the coins. With the usernames and passwords they log into email address and bitcoin exchanges and clean them out again.

So what are you going to say? We think your son is responsible for a major crime and we want you to do something about it? A crime which hasn't even been reported to the authorities? What ability do they have to determine whether or not Zhou is responsible?
This isn't being proposed as a "your kid's got himself into a tight spot and he could use your help" kind of thing. What additional benefit is there to involving Zhou's parents?
Don't get me wrong, I think the way this is being handled is sketchy as hell but I don't see how involving Zhou's parents is going to make it any less sketchy.
As strict as his parents sound from an interview with ZT by the Bitcoin Magazine they might whoop his ass like no other. Q: So, let’s start out with the basics. What type of family did you grow up with? What portions of your childhood do you think contributed the most to your character and work ethic?
A: I grew up in an ordinary Chinese extended family with hard-working parents. My grandparents were the ones looking after me in childhood. Up to the age of 12, I had no pocket money at all because my family pretty much decided everything for me. The only thing that I had to concentrate on was studying. I was not good at anything else, basically.
I would say there’s nothing interesting in my childhood. No toys, no cartoons and no comic books. I stayed happy because I could always get very good results and everyone in family was proud of me, and luckily I loved most of the compulsory subjects in school – especially Math, Physics, Chemistry and English.
The greatest influence to myself happened after going to Singapore. After being posted to The Affiliated High School of SCNU
