641  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [wts] mabie todd swan snakeskin lizard red eye fountain pen on: April 30, 2023, 03:19:45 PM

Mabie Todd Swan Self-filler fountain pen
- Classic
- Stunning rare golden snakeskin lizard red eye marble
- Fitted with a Swan semi-flexible 14ct Solid Gold Nib

Mabie Todd Swan - Up here is a vintage Mabie Todd Swan Self-Filler pen, which was manufactured in England circa 1940s.

The pen is in nice condition, only some wears due to age.

It is in stunning rare snakeskin lizard red eye marble, very attractive and highly collectible pattern, with gold trim.

The pen is superbly detailed, with 'SWAN' signature all around. On the top back of the cap is a 'SWAN' embossed. Also 'SWAN' brand name is embossed on the feed and section. The imprint is impressive on the barrel.

The pen bears a SWAN 14ct solid gold nib, semi-flexible, writing smooth line. A new ink sac has been fitted to the pen. The self-filler system is in perfect working order. The pen has been serviced and tested for its full functionality.

This stylish SWAN is a fine example of Mabie Todd - The pursuit of excellence. This Swan is a classic elegance and has been produced to the highest standards of craftsmanship. This would make an excellent gift to treat yourself or for someone special.

Mabie & Todd Co Ltd was started circa 1845, when Henry Todd and John Mabie combined their business for the manufacture of pen holders, pencil cases and the other related products. Around 1878, the company began its production of fountain pens.

The 'Swan' pen trademark is first adopted in 1884.

In 1909 production of pens is begun in England and the trademark 'Swan, the pen of the British Empire' comes into use. Eventually, 'Swan' became another word for 'pen' in the popular lexicon.
Around 1923, the firm began production of its line of 'Eternal' pens, featured the lever fillers. These were very solid and well made pens, with several attractive colors available.

Till now, Swan fountain pens are highly sought after by collectors around the world.

Keep us in the loop when they make a Bitcoin-themed pen.

Do you collect these pens yourself? Tell us more about it if you want to generate some attention for some of the crypto- and coin-collectors here - just copy pasting their website info does nothing for me.

And what's your affiliation with the shop  - is it yours? Where do you get your supplies, are these brand-new products or did you stock-buy and now resell after several years... questions upon questions.
642  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin wallet address types and balance Distribution on: April 30, 2023, 11:00:53 AM
Nice graphics and interesting statistics.
I just feel the scale / categories used could be optimized. Logarithmic would make more sense.
Also, would be very interesting to split all <1 BTC holdings into further categories. With an average ov < 0.04 it would make sense to check for 0.1 to 1.0 and 0.01 to 0.1 and below 0.01 addresses, too.
I see it's taken from Binance - wonder why they created these very arbitrary categories.

@tread93: Yeah, whichever it is, all keys kept or "just some", as soon as you keep ANY keys as a maker, you have already stepped on the stairs to scammer-hell imho.

I agree with this. I have made errors when making keys (one I put the pub addy in and the pk facing out - this was fixed before any loading was done - thankfully.

But I have never kept any keys - fuck that. No amount of funds are worth that.
A "fun" sidenote, even with the total amount of money swept by yugg, my guess is the value of his brand name was well over what he got out so far. Not an expert on such a valuation, just a gut-feeling.

From the article I also came to notice that Microstrategy were the pioneer company to hold bitcoin as a company.

Micro Strategy statistics
[...]

Pretty cool gstats, quite interesting.
I wonder if this could be considered a nice indicator as to when the market is above-average low - making for a good entry point. Ofc I wouldn't rely on it but when in doubt it's a nice extra to look at I guess.
A graphic to overlap their purchases with the corresponding market situation could be interesting to see if in retro they found good entry points. Just looking at their recent history of purchase it does look okay-ish to me.

On April 18th he swept the Diwali edition…. Fucker was planning this for years - check the address

bc1qckqrfwdcykcwvmzqxrg4vuvhs6ty5d2pjjvhw0

He stored the keys for years - - if my losses were bigger - I’d be on a plane. The world isn’t that big. Can get anywhere for a few thousand dollars

Not fully familiar with coldcuck product palette - what's a Diwali edition?
Sorry to hear it, hope most people swiped their remaining cards already.

Yes, could be planned, but my guess is he "somehow" kept lots and lots of private keys on different devices and his business structure was a mess in that regard from the beginning. Now, that he decided he really doesn't give a shit anymore, whenever he stumbles upon some keys he just goes ahead and swipes whatever he can grab.
Whichever may be the case, just disgusting.

Thanks for the heads-up, PMICT.

those were the ones commissioned by Agrawas to celebrate the holiday.

here is a raffle where he did 3 of them with a silver piece.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5287983.0

31 were made
Oh, these flew completely over my head back then. What a shame, yogg not hesitating to touch anything, even all the private/personal projects, Playtoshi, now this.

647  Economy / Collectibles / Re: TESTING- Submersing paper wallets printed on water proof papers on: April 28, 2023, 03:57:27 PM
Pulled out the paper....tested all qr codes...Papers are in excellent shape with no signs of any erosion from being in the water almost 2.5 years!

This December will mark the third year from when the test has started and will stay ongoing for as long as I can possible do it.

I just think that nothing will change...time will prove me right or wrong. Below is a pic of the papers and their respective company brand.

A for awesome effort.
Paper and ink having some promised specs is one thing, but seeing these hold up in a real world test is still something else.

Not sure if it fits your setup, but a reference test with normal paper and/or normal ink would be cool, too.
648  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why does Bitcoiner still support the use of centralized exchanges? on: April 28, 2023, 07:09:25 AM
I did some research on Bitcoin because I was interested in it, and I discovered that the key principles of Bitcoin are peer-to-peer, anonymity, pseudonymity, decentralization, and operating without a middleman to ensure that Bitcoiners can have financial freedom. However, despite knowing that Bitcoiners adhere to these tenets, why do some Bitcoiners act contrary to them? Why do they continue to support centralized exchanges, use them, and retain their Bitcoin there?
Because, lets face it, there are way too many people that came from the idea to do some "investment" and even worse from a "get rich quick" mindset. And not from a "oh, what an incredible technology, let me explore this thing that will change the way our financial-world works" point-of-view.
I'd go as far and say 80%+ of people holding Bitcoin have no idea what it really is and what its core values/strengths are.

If you keep that in mind, it won't suprise you that still the majority doesn't care about using a centralized exchange service - to the contrary even: These folks may feel that with a company owning an exchange instead of a peice of software that allows p2p exchange (such as Bisq for example) there is someone that can be held accountable if things go wrong. Ofc that's wishful thinking but that's how things have been for ages and the only thing they know.
649  Economy / Speculation / Re: this pump is because of russia? on: April 28, 2023, 06:59:49 AM
I read this news about Binance returned to Russia,
https://www.coindesk.com/business/2023/04/24/crypto-exchange-binance-is-back-in-russia-lifts-restrictions-on-russian-users-report/
i think just returning a exchange don't cause it, but pretty good news for russians

Please avoid these kind of dumb questions in the future.
"this pump is because of russia?"

-> Any complex thing, such as Bitcoin, something that is interconnected with hundrets of markets, influenced by millions of individuals, by thousands of news, hundrets of governments and instituations, tdoes not follow any simple A -> B causality.
It's always a mesh of factors, extremely rarely can a movement be broken down to a single cause, but surely not in this case.
The last such event was probably the FTX exchange scam, but even then the real causes of the market movements were connected to lots and lots of other factors.

tldr: Just avoid any black and white or A->B thinking in a complex market situation like Bitcoin.
650  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I may sound really stupid right now, but it's what I noticed on: April 28, 2023, 06:47:36 AM
I am present in crypto space years ago and I have witnessed two bear market, and I couldn't take advantage of one because of the condition that I was into at the time, but I heard about every good and bad things about crypto.

But I am curious about something and I will like to ask you old Bitcoin OG on here .

Why is it that bad news always comes in a bear market and when we are in a bull market, all bad news about Bitcoin vanished? Are they doing this on purpose? It's always the bear market, after halving everything will disappear and some bans will be lifted, and so on...

Are we been played? Are these people toying with us, knowing that crypto will work but let's scare the hell out of them and take advantage of the fear? I can't come up with anything that makes more sense than this.
You made a pretty accurate observation.
Many media outlets do unfortunatelly care less about a certain depth of the information they provide in comparison with the strength of the headline and its click-potential.
- It's a matter of simple psychology: When Bitcoin is mooning, reaching new highs never seen before, you can play into the FOMO and greed complex by portraying mistly positive news.
- Vis versa, as soon as there is a 70% drop, just go with the malice-sentiment, fueling the "I told you so, it's all a scam" narrative. Generally negative news sell better/generate more clicks, and just looking at the stats, since much less people are in any way involved in Bitcoin still, you can catch a wider audience with crypto-negative news compared to crypto-positive news.
651  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Aktuelle Gewinnspiele im Forum on: April 28, 2023, 06:30:51 AM

Ich meld mich dennoch sobald was eintrifft.
652  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] The ORIGINAL Crypto Greeting Cards WAREHOUSE CLEAR-OUT on: April 28, 2023, 06:25:15 AM
cards arrived 518 un assembled and 255 assembled ones

36 variations.

My current plan is to assemble all the incomplete ones, put em up for sale for a few bucks ea and donate a portion of sales back to the freeross.org fund.
Oh, having the option to get a full set or some individual cards would be cool. Some of the designs really caught my attention.
Reminds me to check on updates regarding freeross.

And congrats on the win, Mopar!
653  Economy / Collectibles / Re: SALE Caribbean Treasures 125,000 Satoshi Copper Bar on: April 28, 2023, 06:13:30 AM
I really like tiny precious metal bars in general and these do look particularly nice.

Damn, so pretty!

Is this also a bundle price similar to the brass coins you released or just for one bar? The latter would be too steep for me for just one 1oz of copper.

kryptowerk, Congratulations! I'll contact you when I'm ready!  Wink
Wow, that's quite amazing! Just a few days ago I gave a ledger as a gift to a friend who had some coins on an exchange - felt it was time to step up her game.
I take it as good karma - thanks a lot for your raffle!
It seemed to me that we would never start this round of raffle and not know the winner. Smiley But still, it happened, with which I congratulate the winner kryptowerk (damn, why is it not me again Cheesy).

It's funny to see karma mentioned in a tech forum. Maybe it's something else? For example, in a random coincidence of numbers or the theory of probability? Wink

Thank you for the opportunity to take part in this betnomi raffle, and now we are waiting for the next round to start (this is not the last one, right? Smiley).
Take it from someone that spent years and years with probabilities and has seen it all: This was good karma, nothing to do with regular statistics. (it's a joke obv.)

What's a random coincidence btw?  Tongue

Incredible suite, can't remember the last time I saw a full set on offer.
Out of my league, but seems  very reasonable for this unique limited to 21 set.

New Alpen coin video. Invested in new camera, microphone, and software. Still working all the kinks out but definitely better than it was. let me know what you think
Wow awesome. Haven't watched, will come back when I was able to do so (hopefully tomorrow) but just wanted to quickly chime in and say it's amazing you keep this going.
Sticking to creating high quality content for such a niche thing does require true passion.

However, you are among the first movers in this field and could become the #1 reference channel for crypto collectibles. I do truely believe you will slowly increase in followers and the cool thing is, this may also be interesting for non-crypto coin-collectors or other bitcoin-geeks that don't own any collectibles.
So I think the possible audience is huge.
Keep it up. Smiley
659  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lightning Network Observer on: April 26, 2023, 04:21:29 PM
We are already winning:
Bitcoin Lightning Network is 1,000x cheaper than Visa and MasterCard: Data

LN is proving an excellent layer for transactional bitcoin:

Quote
The median fee rate, or the cost of sending value across the Lightning Network, is 0.0029%, 1,000 times cheaper than that of MasterCard of Visa payment processors.

[...]
That's a lovely article. Wish LN got more of the attention it deserves.
Something I haven't given much thought yet, but this must be truely scary for the big players, MasterCard, Visa, Paypal and all similar payment-apps mainly used in asian countries.
-> Why would any merchant want to continue using them, draining fees over fees each day, when there is a decentralized solution with a TRUELY negligible fee. The only thing holding anyone back is adoption and legislation.
660  Local / Presse / Re: Lateinamerika‘s neue Bitcoin Kreislaufwirtschaft on: April 26, 2023, 04:01:58 PM
