That is what the developers of bitcoin are doing, they are promoting bitcoin to the other people to add something on it because like you said that if there is nothing new in bitcoin then the people will get bored and they will transfer into an exciting cryptocurrency that is good for long term also so i think it is better to create new ideas with the blockchain technology and not just let bitcoin to stay what it is from the start.

If you want to have a cold storage for your bitcoin then it is not about the storage in pc because it is still risky because your pc is connected in the internet and the best thing to do is to have an offline wallet like paper wallets and hardware wallets that will secure your bitcoin well because they are not connected to internet so the hackers cannot access it but you only.

Just an advise, do not put all your bitcoin in exchanges and online bitcoin wallets because they are risky and you can lose your bitcoins because the exchanges are not worthy to put your bitcoin because you don't have the private key of their wallet where you can recover your bitcoin once they got hacked or have some problems in handling bitcoins. So it is better to have a personal wallet like hardware wallet in keeping your bitcoins.

If you will invest right now and hold it for long term then you can easily earn profit after a few months because even the price of bitcoin is already high for other people. I think that the price of bitcoin will be on a low because that is when the fork of bitcoin gold will happen and that means that the bitcoin gold will be distributed and the exchanges will have bitcoin gold and you can sell it immediately when you already receive your bitcoin gold and that is why the price will go down because that day might become the harvesting of profit.

Bitcoin is a new currency or money in the world and we can expect more good things in bitcoin because it has a cheaper system which you can send bitcoin to another wallet which is own by a person too and you can do it and expect the delivery time to go into at least few minutes and you can also use it into different opportunities to earn more money by doing trading and investing and i think bitcoin will become the new kind of money that will go on mainstream.
