presumably most people who are able to navigate CLI transaction creation from scratch would also be able to read code well enough to vet a wallet like Electrum. I love CLI, but I can't read Electrum's code. I would guess that applies to more people, thoroughly checking a lot of code is much more work (and more complicated) than following CLI-instructions. |

i know it's still running today. the question is how and why? can i prove to myself somehow that the site is a scam? maybe that's why it never got took offline because they can't prove it 100%. Scammers make a living by scamming people, of course they don't take their site offline. What might work, is going through their registrar of web host, but in the latter case they'll just move somewhere else. Perhaps there is a market for a bare bones wallet which can only generate segwit addresses, sign transactions, and nothing else, but I can't imagine it would be a very big market. Hard-core CLI transaction creation? I think you're right, there's not much of a market for that. |

when I set my host file to use time.google.com’s IP address and try to run BTCapsule, it never starts. Which means I need to add another “Please enable internet” somewhere, but not opening at all is still enough to keep the private keys encrypted. It sounds like you're patching holes, while the setup is fundamentally flawed. The next step would be to run your own DNS server. If you keep altcoins in hardware wallet, how dependent you are from the model of hardware wallet? To stay on-topic, I'll answer this for Forkcoins (but it applies to altcoins too). You can use your seed words to restore all private keys. The easiest way to do it is using Ian Coleman's Mnemonic Code Converter. DO NOT use this online! You should use it offline, air-gapped, on a system without storage space that runs from a Live Linux DVD with the curtains closed. Even then, you should probably consider your seed words compromised, just in case. Btw, I also wonder how it works technically, when the same seed "remembers" and "keeps" many altcoins while every altcoin has its own blockchain? Every altcoin then should have its own seed. But somehow all of them are stored in the wallet with only 1 seed. How? :-) The key word is Derivation Paths, which convert your seed words into private keys. You don't need a blockchain to do this. |

how is that scamming? You're trying to sell private keys. If you want to sell secure vanity addresses, use split key: InstructionsI can just create an address, and send you the private key. This means you have to trust me, my computer, my cat, both our email clients, and by definition it can no longer be used for cold storage. So let's not. Instead, use split key: Step 1: Goto https://www.bitaddress.org/ move your mouse/type in the field until it shows 100% and wait a second. Step 1.5: Optional but highly recommended. Download the page, verify the download and run it locally *. Step 2: Click Vanity Wallet click the Generate button next to Generate your "Step1 Key Pair"Step 3: Reply to this thread with your public key and the prefix for your address. Save the private key somewhere safe. You will need it later when I generated your partial private key. Also, let me know if your preferred prefix is case sensitive, or any case is okay (the latter is much faster) Step 4: Once you received your partial private key, go back to bitaddress.org and click on Vanity Wallet. Step 5: Go to step 2 Calculate your vanity wallet. In the first field put the private key you saved and in the second field put the partial private key I gave you. Click Add and Calculate Vanity WalletStep 6: Copy the Vanity Private Key (WIF) and import it into your preferred wallet. Credits to shorena for most of these instructions! Would it be considered as formal work even though I think it's more like freelancing? I mean, in formality can you include that on your Resume or CV? You can include freelancing on your CV too, as long as it's relevant to the job you apply to. most of the people here are under pseudonyms, and therefore I don't know what it was possible to reveal about the identity, let alone add it to the CV. I personally keep my forum activities away from my real life, for privacy reasons. But if you offer for instance website development on Bitcointalk and have a portfolio of the projects you've done, you can use that to your advantage if you apply for a job as a website developer. In this case, you don't even have to specify Bitcointalk, you'll probably use other freelancing sites too. This got me thinking: how many other forum activities would you add to your resume? Pornhub? I think you made the right call; I don't like making life harder for people, but accounts should never change hands, no ifs, ands or buts. They never seem to learn that posting anything Merit-related gets their account scrutinized  I don't get those people: Detritus has earned 86 Merit since he gained access to the (Member) account. Even though he's " nonstop shitposting in very broken English", I've definitely seen worse and only 3 deleted posts isn't much. If he would have started with a Brand New account, he'd be close to Full Member now. Allow me to highlight that "broken English" is allowed: I do want to hear the thoughts of people who can't speak perfect English, people with extreme/offensive ideas, people who are rude while still making legitimate points, etc. |

the only way for me to use something like this, is to give a certain type of hint [as opposed to entering my private key] that could "only" mean something to a specific person I'd love to have a secure private method to delay sharing information, but this project isn't what I'm looking for. For a while now, I've been thinking about a service that provides PGP encryption and allows to decrypt it only after a certain Bitcoin block was mined. The service can for instance create 2 million different PGP signatures, which is enough to last 30 years. The user first encrypts a text with his own PGP keys, then with the service's keys that match the desired future date (and if needed with his own keys again). This ensures the service never knows your data. Then, you give the encrypted data to someone, who can decrypt the data after a certain Bitcoin block has been mined. The flaw in this system is of course the centralized service: if it disappears, decryption is no longer possible. And if it provides the keys too early, decryption can happen before the Bitcoin block was mined. The first problem can be mitigated by having several (trusted) services that share and store the same (2 million) PGP signatures. If one of them disappears, another takes over. But this increases the risk of leaking the keys. So this idea isn't perfect either, but if someone can improved upon it, that would be great! Ideally, it should be completely trustless. |

I think some people here would be interested in playing around with something like this, so wanted to share. It reminds me of the Scrooge McDuck comic in which there's a payment machine for everything. This is so cool! I see so many possibilities to annoy the kids: watch TV? 5 sats! Charge your tablet? 5 sats! Allowance? In sats Nice find. I thought it will allow my smart lamp to accept Bitcoin, but it looks like it requires a specific microcontroller so any led/smart device is not going to cut it. Turn on your light: 5 sats The microcontroller itself looks cheap though, just $5 in my local market, half the price of most smart lamps in the market. One drawback is the energy consumption. Paying your own lamp per hour is fun, but paying for the lamp to be off sucks. It's an interesting / fun idea but with the abundance of smart home products out there and the fact that you are dealing with 'real' voltages I would not want to do it with an off the shelf controller. With a decent quality relay, I wouldn't worry about switching 230V, but it does need more precautions. Especially the housing should be safe. |

My first thought after reading the link: who runs a LN node on their phone? And would it really be that bad if LN is only available when both parties are online? I have a client on my phone, and it works fine if I use it. But most of the time, it won't be online, so I don't think it can receive a payment unless I run the app. But for LN to become mainstream, and for people to use their own node, it should indeed be possible to receive payments even when it's not online all the time, without resorting to a custodial wallet. And it should indeed be possible to run your own node on your phone to use it all day long. I don't understand the technical part (like most of LN), but if they can pull this off, it may bring LN one step closer to mass adoption. |

I disagree that they should plagiarize without consequences if they are fast enough to delete reported post which ain't that hard if you are using notification bot. If whoever reports their posts doesn't want them to be notified, they could just use Report to moderator instead of posting about it. Imho, in his case signature ban could be enough Have you seen his signature? I don't know what he wore before, but at the moment he isn't posting for money. |

I did opened up to him about moving it to non-custodial Bitcoin wallet if he wants to store and not trade, but he chose to stick with Binance. So it's his decision anyways, so I should respect that. He is illiterate in crypto as a baby boomer & senior citizen.

Maybe you can show him some of the many hacks that happened to exchanges in the past, in which people lost their Bitcoins. I wouldn't trust a Chinese website with my money for a long time. |

To get someone banned, The plagiarized post must be available on the forum. Moderators do not consider Post Scraping links like Loyce.club or Ninjastic. This is not my statement. One of the Mods said that, but I cannot find the Post now. First time I hear about this and honestly doesn't make much sense to me. I'd say it makes a lot of sense: people shouldn't get banned if they corrected their own mistake. This makes sense why wouldn't mods trust such an archiving links. It is possible that TryNinja and/or LoyceV can manipulate the content in their website since they have access to their website, though we know any of them would never do that. You don't even have to trust me on it: I create checksums of all archived posts. See this post (and read a few posts before and after). Feel free to archive those checksums as often as you want, and feel free to check if I don't automatically alter any new posts. |
