6462  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: "Thomas Nasakioto" of ixcoin is OldMiner... on: August 17, 2011, 12:11:32 PM
Oh and i forgot to add that he registered on the 14th of August.

That's a nice climb, from registration to moderator in 3 days.

Especially because moderators need to have given proof that they are sensible persons and not mix their own feelings with the forum moderation, and yet, even on this forum you never showed something like that.

Or he is Nasakioto or Nasakioto is a true moron who can't even manage a forum properly, much less create a viable competing blockchain/currency.
6463  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: "Thomas Nasakioto" of ixcoin is OldMiner... on: August 17, 2011, 11:40:08 AM

A moderator with 14 posts... Nasakioto sure trust you...

You got nailed. Face it.  Roll Eyes

You, as a designer, should know better than anyone else what a logo is and what it's used for...  Roll Eyes
6465  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: IXCOIN Crashes from 0.006 BTC to 0.0003 BTC on: August 17, 2011, 11:25:46 AM

When I say design I wasnt referring to the coin itself. I was referring to the infrastructure around it. You know, the promotional aspects of it..the bounties..the website..the forum..

You mean the website that they/him/you copied from bitcoin.org and replaced bit by ix like they/him/you did with the code? lol
6466  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Win a Free Bitcoin on: August 17, 2011, 10:56:46 AM
1 BTC for each follower or 1 BTC divided by the number of followers?

1 BTC for a "random" follower, most likely lol
6467  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Please remove Bitcoin from Sourceforge.net on: August 17, 2011, 10:23:15 AM
Why "remove"? It`s not a Bitcoin way Wink Add some mirrors, diversification will solve the problem.

Do you think it's a good idea to take the risk?

I'm fully aware that the source code is hosted on github, but I'm also aware that 90% or more of Bitcoin installs come from the exe's on sourceforge.

I know I'm not trusting SourceForge anymore...
If they are willing to punish people that live under oppressive regimes just for fear of US law i wonder what else will they do when said law "asks"* them...
*forces them to
6468  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: first time transaction on Bitmarket.eu -> money gone? on: August 17, 2011, 10:12:01 AM

If you have no idea what blocks are I think you shouldn't be messing with Bitcoin and much less with exchanges.

I really hope this is not Bitcoin's future. I use euros and I have no idea how paper is impressed. Why does he have to know what is a block to use bitcoins?

daarsaars, your client is not connected to the network. Are you sure you are not behind any proxy or something? You can try to reinstall the client, but backup your wallet.dat file first. Otherwise your money will be lost forever.

Because unfortunatelly Bitcoin is not newbie friendly, unlike paper money Wink

What are you going to say next, that people with no sense of security or lack of knowledge about technology should use homebanking systems?
We all now how that turns out when it happens... Trojans installed, thousands of euros stolen.
6469  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Please remove Bitcoin from Sourceforge.net on: August 17, 2011, 10:08:00 AM
It has come to my attention that Sourceforge only does what the U.S.A. government wants, so it isn't the right place to host the Bitcoin client nor the bitcoin.org website.

You can see what i mean here: http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/sitelegal/wiki/Terms_of_Use#ProhibitedPersons

It came to my knowledge because of this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=37402.0

Probably you guys chosen the wrong place to host such a project.
Free hosting is good, allright, but not when it comes with this price tag Wink

If they let the US government tell them what to do, i ask: What's next? Giving the authorities access to repositories so they can install backdoors?

I think this is a very serious issue and I bet a lot of people will agree with me.

Let the discussion begin!

PS: Sorry for not being eloquent enough but I guess you all understand what I want to say.
6470  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: No bitcoin in Iran on: August 17, 2011, 10:02:25 AM
Well, if sourceforge is such a puppet in the U.S. government hands, i say take the client out of there, because it doesn't seem the right place to be hosting it.

This.
People in Iran are not "bad". They are normal people who want to live their lives.

No reason why they should suffer because of the things their government does.
I don't think it sits well with the concept of bitcoin to host the client on a site, which blocks certain people in the world from downloading it.

Every single person in the world should have equal access to the client and blockchain regardless of their location.

And even worse is that they also host the website... Can be seen in http://whois.domaintools.com/bitcoin.org on the "Server Stats" tab.
6471  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Physical Location that accepts bitcoin on: August 17, 2011, 09:43:16 AM
Perhaps we should create a separate wiki, run by people that have more commitment?
A wiki is made by people. Creating another wiki will not help. If there are people with more commitment, just point them to the current wiki.
The Google Maps extension cannot be installed by the people ; it requires shell access to the server.
thank you for your contribution.

Shell access isn't needed, just filesystem access. But yeah, nmat was wrong Wink
6472  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: first time transaction on Bitmarket.eu -> money gone? on: August 17, 2011, 09:29:28 AM
...
also, what are these blocks?
...

If you have no idea what blocks are I think you shouldn't be messing with Bitcoin and much less with exchanges.

Go read the wiki first, and deal with Bitcoin later.

6473  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The new Bitcoin on: August 17, 2011, 08:18:53 AM
...
This is no logo, it's a coin to be used by people who want a pretty bitcoin image to use when trying to spread the message on their website or wherever.
...

So, now it isn't a logo...

One little piece of advice that i see you are in desperate need of:
When you start a thread saying "I have this logo here, what do you guys think?" and everyone tells you it's bad, don't try to turn it on the opposite direction and deal bad with criticism, because, after all, you asked for it. The only thing you are gaining is getting out of this thread sounding a major "know it all" a-hole.

I wouldn't hire you as a designer, that's for sure. Or else you would end up giving me the most shitiest design ever and try to convince me it was the greatest design ever.
6474  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Site off and on on: August 17, 2011, 02:44:27 AM
try ctrl+F5 to re-download the stylesheet files Wink

On the note that the site is slow: This all https policy gives a lot more load to the server, so maybe they should revise their https policy or move to a more powerful server.
6475  Economy / Services / Re: [Bit-Coin-Trading.com] Bitcoin Classifieds [Free 0.03 BTC for new users] on: August 17, 2011, 02:19:28 AM

It's called "bumping" lol
6476  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTB 1.5BTC on: August 17, 2011, 02:13:54 AM
I'd buy with Paypal

I have plenty of references (List of honest traders, #bitcoin-otc, post count, Smartcoin software author).

PM me if interested

I want to BUY bitcoin, not sell Smiley But thanks for the offer.

The thing is, I bought this vanilla visa card, but only US businesses can accept it, and I'm based in Europe, so i only spent like $6 from it online. Was just trying to let the card go in exchange for some BTC because they are going to start deducting fees sooner or later and keep the remaining balance in it.
I guess vanilla visa will just eat those $19 or maybe I'll need to go to amazon and buy a book or whatever just to spend the money lol
6477  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: No bitcoin in Iran on: August 17, 2011, 01:38:32 AM
source forge blocks countries such as iran out of their own sense of right and wrong. not due to the US laws.

Read first, talk later...

Quote
Prohibited Persons

You represent you are not a person on a list barring you from receiving services under U.S. laws or other applicable jurisdiction, including without limitations, the Denied Persons List and the Entity List, and other lists issued by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security, detailed at http://www.bis.doc.gov/complianceandenforcement/ListsToCheck.htm (or successor sites thereto). Users residing in countries on the United States Office of Foreign Assets Control sanction list, including Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Syria, may not post Content to, or access Content available through, SourceForge.net.
http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/sitelegal/wiki/Terms_of_Use#ProhibitedPersons

I would agree with you if you said they do it because they fear what might happen to them as US based company/service, but punishing the people that live under oppressive regimes doesn't seem very open to me.
So maybe we should boycot Sourceforge out of our own sense of right and wrong...  Roll Eyes

Now I'll never download any other software from there. Imagine they start giving US government access to the source code repositories so they can put backdoors in softwares, for instance bitcoin, would that be a good thing?

I think this deserves a thread of its own, but I'm not eloquent enough to start it myself probably Cheesy

Holy Shmoly dude... 4 posts in a row? I know some forums where you'd be banned for 1 week after doing something like that. Double posting would be just a warning, but 4 Shocked
FFS, when you are replying you have the reply list below the text field and you just have to press the link that says Insert Quote and do it all in 1 post.
No wonder you have almost 600 posts lol
6479  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Support For new Bitcommerce site. on: August 17, 2011, 12:54:28 AM
Joomla? For an ecommerce site? Are you building a custom solution to integrate bitcoin payments? Or is there already one thatI'm not aware off?

Not bashing, just curious.
6480  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Justin Bieber & Bitcoin on: August 17, 2011, 12:36:07 AM
Well, in his first posts in the cryptography list, Satoshi gave the example that public figures, like Justin Bieber, could use Bitcoin in the following way:
Code:
It can already be used for pay-to-send e-mail.  The send dialog is
resizeable and you can enter as long of a message as you like.
It's sent directly when it connects.  The recipient doubleclicks
on the transaction to see the full message.  If someone famous is
getting more e-mail than they can read, but would still like to
have a way for fans to contact them, they could set up Bitcoin and
give out the IP address on their website.  "Send X bitcoins to my
priority hotline at this IP and I'll read the message personally."
The original posting can be found here http://www.mail-archive.com/cryptography@metzdowd.com/msg10162.html

Sooooooooo... Let's convince someone famous to make money with their fan mail and we'll have all the publicity bitcoin needs to be mainstream Wink
