Do you have anything interesting to sell that you think we might be interested in?

This.  Sell things for bitcoin, buy them with fiat.
6483  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mexican Standoff on: February 22, 2012, 03:09:22 AM
The one with the most ammo.

And who is that?

That's the million dollar question.

yes that's what makes this situation so interesting. Feels a bit like a spring ready to burst one way or the other...but even if it did move so many people are split in opinion that they can't let it.

That's to say, that the difference in ammo is close to zero.

I would say if the difference in ammo is zero, then we have an accurate price.  Of course, Bitcoin still being so new any "accurate" price is still highly vulnerable to new information.
6484  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Defying Mining Probabilities with Willpower on: February 20, 2012, 05:10:47 PM
And AFAIK to do it you need support from your subconscious, that is incredibly hard. You have to be totally convinced that it is natural for the block to be solved this way for you. So that you don't even thave to think much about it.

Right, it's more about believing that is how it's supposed to happen so you stay out of the way.
6485  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: February 20, 2012, 05:08:55 PM
ahh I see what your saying

hehe I bet your a lot younger than me, I can tell by your style of doing things in windows

I come from the days when you needed batch files just to boot your computer,,, so I guess I look at things in a different way Smiley

I got into computers because I wanted to play Comanche on my dads 486 DX2 and I needed to create a boot disk in order to make it work. Sometimes I miss those simple days

Simple?  Meh I remember having to mess around for hours configuring XMS and EMS just right to get Civ to play on my 386 SX.  Or how about running cable everywhere and having to terminate ends to set up networks just to play Doom multiplayer.  Oh the exhiliration of hitting the turbo button and hearing the computer's pitch turn higher as you went from 8MHz to 16MHz  Grin

Is the failover in GUIMiner using pocblm adequate? I never got that to work right?  I may just have to follow gigavps's advice and switch to cgminer.

Man, I got so used to command prompt with DOS (was still using command prompts to move files in XP until a few years ago).  Finally retrain my brain for all GUI and now I need to learn Linux.  *#&^$^%@#&%$  Tongue Cry

If you have any questions, feel free to bug me (DrG only).  I've been using Linux since I was 12.  The Unix design is beautiful, and is not just the best model for computing, it teaches you much about sharing limited resources between agents with disparate goals.
6486  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoinica's Interest System on: February 19, 2012, 08:15:42 PM
So I can just plop 100 BTC over to my Bitcoinica account... and start seeing .0417% interest on that 100 bitcoin deposit per day?

Everyday?

You get the buying interest rate, so it can be lower. The rate is dynamic, but 3% to 6% APY should be the norm.

Yes, you don't have to do anything, and you can withdraw any time. Interest is calculated hourly and paid daily.

I put BTC100 on Friday just to test it out and I've received 0 interest. So?

So you should get a payment as soon as your 0.0048 BTC/day (at the moment, interest rates will vary) accumulates to the 0.01 payout minimum.

I want to learn Javascript [...]
Where do I start?

www.python.org

That's just ignorant. You're going to confuse people who don't know the difference between server-side and client-side languages. Ignorant people like OP.

Wait.... I know the difference, but now I'm confused.  WTF does that have to do with Python?  Python is very useful both client-side and server-side.
6488  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: $500 000 worth of BTC sold in last ten days - price drop. on: February 19, 2012, 03:26:18 PM
In other news, $500,000 worth the bitcoins have been bought in the past 10 days.

For a group of people technologically sophisticated enough to invent an untraceable substitute for all modern currency/banking, the number of ridiculous comments related to "value" and "trading" is astounding.

You're only astounded because you're confusing the group of people on this forum with 1 smart guy who went by "Satoshi".  This forum has plenty of idiots.

Check that your clock is correct.

This.

If that doesn't do it, check your messages.
6491  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 0 connections? on: February 19, 2012, 06:49:53 AM
Use the option '-connect=ip.to.first.computer' and it will connect to your other machine.  That should get it bootstrapped
6492  Other / Off-topic / Re: Important! Regarding Restaurants Accepting Bitcoin on: February 19, 2012, 05:34:27 AM
No.  Not like that.  That is 1 address for all transactions.

I'm talking about 1 address per transaction.  Nobody else will ever see your address besides you and your server/cashier.

So, if I'm a rogue competitor, and I come into your restaurant and pay with Bitcoin, I would not be able to reverse engineer blockexpoler or blockchain to see your other transactions. Is that what you're saying? And is this fact? Is this easy to implement for the restaurant owners?

Right, if I use a new address each time and forward all my funds straight to MtGox each time I receive, the funds will be mixed together with all the other MtGox deposits and can't be linked.

They will need integration with their existing payment systems.  Alternatively, servers could generate an address and display the QR on their smartphone.  There is work to be done here, but a system could be built to guarantee one address can only give you info for a single transaction.

Even if the transaction is conducted via mental telepathy, it'll still be transparent on blockexplorer.

I meant generate a new address for each receipt.

As for expenses correlating addresses, you can make a few wallets and mix them up, or send them all to MtGox or any other trustworthy site.

Any sane business owner that wishes to remain competitive would use unique addresses to receive funds.

You saying that they use a different address for every transactions, oppose to only using the same one, e.g., 1TacoBell1.......dVh7n? I not only envisioned them using only one address, but a vanity address to boot.

I'm pretty sure GrubGo is using only one address: http://blockexplorer.com/address/18n4wFPmLgZSz4GQJ6Kf6M93JE8eePWMAX And it would be nice if it were a vanity address: 1GrubGo1...........................

~Bruno~

Just print a QR on the receipt.

http://tech.shantanugoel.com/2011/09/19/chrome-scriptextension-installation-error-could-not-read-source-file.html

Basically, I had a bitcoinica.user.js in my downloads folder that needed deleted.
6498  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoinica Helper (userscript) on: February 18, 2012, 11:43:30 PM
I've updated the script to v1.2.2. Changes:

- Fixed liquidation price (which was broke by swap addition on Bitcoinica)
- Fixed re-enabling amount buttons
- Removed LIMIT order option (it's now directly available on the UI, just click on the crosshair)

Chrome is giving me "could not read source file".  Same error even after downloading it and opening it from the HD.

I think he might have been misreading at the difficulty numbers.

Bitcoin never closed a week above $20, so price was never really "in the high $20s" for an amount of time that can effect mining power.
