6501  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Andreas Antonopoulos says to stop using paper wallets, do you agree? on: January 02, 2022, 02:20:51 PM
He’s stating paper wallet tech is simply outdated, but I don’t see how?
I saw this video few days ago and I would somehow agree with him that average users, and tiktok generation should better stop using and generating paper wallets because they are obsolete.
There is nothing wrong if you already have some old paper wallet, and you can use it just fine, but it's much better to have option for easy generating of new addresses, that is impossible to do on paper wallets.
If I had to choose between open source hardware wallet and paper wallets, I would always choose hardware wallet option.

Let's counter his arguments: how often has a paper wallet leaked millions of customer addresses? I've seen countless people enter their mnemonic seed into a phishing website. I've seen even more people lose their funds because they left them on an exchange. Paper wallets aren't perfect, but they serve a purpose.
Remember when one of those online website generating paper wallets got compromised, and I think that even you (correct me if I am wrong) had to change recommendations for using that website?
Thousands and maybe millions of people used that website that had a flaw, meaning that information was leaked, and who knows how many people used that website incorrectly while being online.
No company or face behind them, so you can't really blame them like you can blame ledger and owners from French village.

While a cypherpunk myself; and a fan of fully trusted setups, generating seeds with own entropy and stuff like that, I think Andreas is speaking to the 99% of the crowd who probably aren't even on this forum and would 9 times out of 10 mess up a paper wallet.
Even people on this forum would mess up paper wallets, and I guess people could still ride a horse today if they want, but most of them still opted out for driving a car that is faster.
You could die in some accident using any of this options, but you have airbags and seatbelts in cars so it's more likely you would survive a car crash.
It's similar thing with paper wallets and ''faster'' hardware wallets, but I guess you still have to secure your PAPER/metal backup even for hardware wallets  Cheesy

6502  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Mining on: January 02, 2022, 01:49:41 PM
How can I mine bitcoin from my android mobile phone?
You can't use your android phone for mining anything, you would only destroy your battery for nothing or get scammed and infected with some malware, so stop thinking about this.
Bitcoin needs much more expensive special ASIC machines for mining and you need to spend more more electricity for them.
6503  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Chain analytic tools for public on: January 02, 2022, 01:42:35 PM
Centralised crypto services are well known for using tools like chainalysis to comply with the authorities, are there any such tools open source and available for general public?
There would be no profit for anyone that would release any alternative software that would be open source, and it would than be much easier for good guys to create counter tools against blockchain tracking.
That is why I don't expect ever to see something like this being released because there is no financial incentive, and risk is to big to go with open source development.
You can partially use explorers posted by other members in this topic, and you can check list of all alternative tools for Chainalysis:

6504  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bitcointalk Charity and its funds on: January 01, 2022, 08:38:37 PM
According to the first site I found, over $8k is average in the Philippines. I don't expect the newlyweds to pay it all though: "Traditionally the groom’s family pays for the wedding and the grandparents act as the primary witnesses or sponsors".
Check out youtube video from several years ago with Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera's Grand royal wedding from Philippines (they sure paid much more).
I don't know how much they paid for this weeding and it's fine for royal grandparents to pay, but I don't think that poor old grandpa from Philippines have anywhere nearly 8k for any wedding ceremonies.
Average Monthly Salary there is only around $300, so they must save all their lives, and sell a land or house, just to pay for one wedding.
It's much easier if you have some Bitcoin... just saying.  Wink
6505  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X Battery Pandemic on: January 01, 2022, 08:24:29 PM
If that turns out to be true, then they really need to set their priorities straight [scammers will surely try to capitalize on this situation]!
I don't know anyone who purchased Nano X device recently so I can't verify that, but it would be interesting to get in contact with Kraken dev team who tested many hardware wallet devices.
I would love to see one more teardown and review from them, or from some other similar team (Not counting ledger donjon obviously).

The Nano X has become a suck fest of a hardware wallet to the point that there is no more turning back. I am so glad that I got the Nano S a few years ago and was never tempted to acquire version X. More precisely, the older generations seem OK. It's these new ones that are completely messed up. They should just get rid of it and replace it with the Nano S Plus. They obviously don't know how to fix the problem or are looking for the cheapest possible solution that turns out not to be a solution at all but the birth of new problems.
It is a total suck fest, and I never saw any other hardware wallet with so many problems like Nano X, but they have good advertisement and people still buy it.
I hope that new model S plus will fix some of this problems because it doesn't have any battery, but only if it doesn't adopt anything from model X.
It sure is going to be very interesting next few months in hardware wallet world, and I can't wait to hear feedback from people.
6506  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: German Bank announces to support Bitcoin; says it's important to own private key on: January 01, 2022, 08:15:41 PM
Banks like Volksbanken Raiffeisenbanken are a bit different from what we know about Americans banks, so profits are important but not that important.
Banks only exist because of profits and control of money, so it sounds a bit suspicious they would allow customers to own bitcoin on their own wallets.
I am thinking how they are planning to make their own centralized wallets, something like it was done in El Salvador with Chivo wallet, but that is just my speculation.
I also doubt bank would allow anyone to hold Bitcoin without revealing kyc customer information, maybe even worse than some centralized exchanges are doing now.

Maybe, they have invested big in Bitcoin  Smiley
It's possible, but this would be major news in Germany and worldwide, and I didn't hear anything about this.
However, some of their board members and investors probably invested in Bitcoin as part of their portfolio.
6507  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: German Bank announces to support Bitcoin; says it's important to own private key on: January 01, 2022, 07:29:47 PM
Recently, a famous German Bank (Volksbanken Raiffeisenbanken, Bayern Mitte) has announced to consider offering Bitcoin services. It happened a few days ago already but it’s a very bullish news if you look at 2 facts
This is very interesting news and forum is the first place I heard about it, it's even more interesting when we know that Raiffeisenbank is operating in my other European countries and not only in Germany.
It's true that banks can't do anything on their own but in reality we know they are all supporting politicians that can speed up adoption of Bitcoin.
Question I am asking myself is why would a bank do such a big deal related with Bitcoin if they don't have some benefit and profit from this deal, there must be some hidden agenda I can't see right now.
Looks like a step in a good direction but let's wait and see what happens in next few months.

6508  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bitcointalk Charity and its funds on: January 01, 2022, 04:10:31 PM
I apologize for not having a response in quite while. As I mentioned on my earlier reply, my place was hit and affected with the super typhoon, due to this I've been struggling connecting online
It's good that you managed to post transactions and at least some receipts, that may change some negative feedback you received, but I am afraid that you won't have any reputation left to be an escrow in this forum.
I hope that you fixed the things with your house and that you and your family are good now.

I hope that cabalism do list his previous tracks as well, as he made an activity recently.
So do you still have private conversation with cabalism and do you know what's happening with him? Maybe he was also hit by super typhoon disaster??
He was not online in forum since December 19 and I almost lost hope that he will ever return here.
6509  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X Battery Pandemic on: January 01, 2022, 03:51:16 PM
New Year and New problems for Ledger Nano X devices and their owners, as more people report this new Mirror Bug pandemic with reversed characters on screen.
Official ledger account confirmed that problem is real (it's not someone making fake images like Pmalek did  Cheesy) and they plan to fix this in their new firmware version 2.0.2.

Set up a new device and it's bugged out with the text mirrored, anyway to reset? Can't move the menu

1st day of use and got strange screen errors
https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/rs4g4t/1st_day_of_use_and_got_strange_sceen_errors/

One more issue is with Power Surge like reported by one user, showing what a mess full of bugs Nano X is...
https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/rt3itc/ledger_nano_x_power_surge/

If you think that battery problems are over, I have to disappoint you and say that it is NOT over, and they are now trying to fix this with gluing battery to the PCB... yes you heard it right.
Bad thing about this is that it's not possible anymore to verify if device was tempered from inside or not...

6510  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mozilla says they'll accept Bitcoin & crypto donations on: January 01, 2022, 03:31:50 PM
They talked about Dogecoin first.
Well I guess we know one person who is going to be happy about this...and his name is Elon Musk.
They just got a new loyal fan on Firefox browser, until something else draws his attention.

The downside is that they accept payments using BitPay, I don't know but I think Mozilla is big enough to have developers running a full node of the company.
All this years and just now they come up with an idea to accept Bitcoin and other crypto donations  Tongue
Maybe that is one of the reasons why google chrome have huge market share compared to firefox browser, but I still like them more than chrome.
Instead of using Bitpay they should start using BTCPayServer, run their own node, and accept donations on their own terms.
6511  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Mjesečna Analiza za Hrvatsku Lokalnu Zajednicu (Bitcointalk Croatian) on: January 01, 2022, 02:13:52 PM
6512  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How are Bitcoin transaction fees so low? on: December 31, 2021, 02:32:49 PM
Bitcoin fees are not always so low, but they are much better with greater adoption of segwit, so much that was normal for months to send transaction with 1sat/vB and expect to be received in few hours (day max).
More people are usins Lightning Network that can reduce the load on main chain, and there is over 32,000 LN nodes with over 19,000 being active, and almost 84,000 channels.
Paying minimal fees with more private transactions sounds very good to me.

Also bitcoin can never become proof of stake unlike other coins,so where does this leave us ?
That is never going to happen on Bitcoin and there is no need for that, but even if some people decide to fork off they will just create one more worthless shitcoin.
6513  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [BETA] blindmixer.com - Next-gen mixer | Chaumian Bank | Lightning | Blinded on: December 31, 2021, 12:51:37 PM
Generate a swap from LN-BTC to BTC on BOLTZ.exchange
Maximum amount that can be swapped on Boltz exchange is only 0.1 BTC and that is not nearly enough for most people.
I think that sideshift.a and fixedfloat.com offer larger amount for swapping but they are not trustless or noncustodial, but using any of this defeats the purpose of using mixer in the first place.

Politika. U "demokraciji" uvek prati "vecinu".
6515  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Where does Binance Report account owners? on: December 31, 2021, 12:25:24 PM
Anyone get charged because binance report users?

How likely binance report their users to foreign tax authorities?
They are 100% working with Chainalysis and they are working with all government agencies, so don't expect anything to remain hidden in Binance exchange.
I saw numerous reports from their customers who got their accounts blocked because they got reported by government agency from Netherlands, even if customer is not Dutch citizen at all and he is not living there.
It's best to talk with some lawyer and don't keep any money on centralized exchanges, hacks can happen at any time.
6516  Economy / Reputation / Re: 3 bounty cheaters on: December 31, 2021, 12:09:58 PM
KTChampions (and FatFork) good job on exposing this cheater.
Maybe Ratimov could help and take a better look at his other accounts, because I see this is some Russian account farm.

I really have two accounts (Dron Pelya and Lunar Crank)
Tell me, do you think provided evidence was enough for giving red tag?
There is more than enough evidence and proof that shows you used multiple accounts to abuse bounty campaigns multiple times.
You used same addresses, you used same exchanges and you abused merits sending them to yourself, and negative feedback has been given for much less things than that.
I am sure that you have more accounts that are just waiting to be discovered soon, and it's time for you to take a well deserved break from cheating sir.
Happy New Year.
6517  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bitcointalk Charity and its funds on: December 30, 2021, 03:00:00 PM
One of Best_Change campaign rules is that participant will be removed without payment if he gets negative feedback during his stay in their campaign.
It does say he left campaign himself, but it's possible that manager saw negative feedback on his profile and removed him.
I am not sure who exactly is managing Best_Change campaign and counting posts, but they can clarify this for us.

It's worth noting that bL4nkcode was last online on December 21, while the Flag and negative feedback started on December 22. That means he hasn't seen it by himself on his own account, unless he used an alt.
I am sure that he received many notifications from people who mentioned his username, but it's sure not a good sign to see him being away and not logged in for nine days.
The way things are going now, I doubt we are going to see this two back again, and at very least nobody will ever trust them again.
6518  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I need test audience for a project on: December 30, 2021, 12:30:44 PM
This response is amazing. I know it's just 3 of us now but a good start. I will start it and PM you all. Many thanks.
I am not sure you will be able to send private messages to everyone as long as you are Newbie account in forum (some people have option to block all messages from newbies).
Consider making small forum contribution and upgrading your account to Copper membership, and you will be able to post images and send messages.

6519  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X Battery Pandemic on: December 30, 2021, 12:23:22 PM
Yeah, they are still sending bad devices and I guess this will continue until they start to improve their quality check at factory facility.
Maybe good indicator will be when they start to send devices with new logo, this would mean that old ones will be gone.

It will be hard to edit. Even if it is moved, of course, the background that has overwritten the text will not be the same.
Hard to edit, and I am sure editing was not the case this time because we see more people with same problem.

One more evidence that this bug and glitch with screen is real, and it's happening to more and more people.
Like I said before, it is all related with power and battery, so they are suggesting to let the battery drains till device shuts off itself.
After that you can connect your device with computer, and if same thing repeat contact ledger support.
Good luck to anyone wasting money buying for this garbage...

6520  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Donation Campaign For 15-Year-Old Swimmer Lana Pudar on: December 30, 2021, 12:03:51 PM
I found something interesting after I sent out this message. I came across Lana's official website > https://lanapudar.com/.
Looks like she is somewhat familiar with crypto. At least with NFTs. She has a collection on sale that can be reached through her website (https://nftdeals.io/lana-pudar/?id=5). Let's see if there will be a response.
It's funny that her own website don't have translation in local languages but only in English, that makes me think how someone else (maybe Blocsport.one) made this website for here to advertise their own (BLS) token(s).
This is not a bad way to collect funds per se, but I don't understand keeping jpeg images on centralized networks like binance chain (or something like polygon) that is proved to revert transactions.
Those NFTs have her image and signature so that means she approved them and she knows at least something about crypto.
Let's wait and see if she replies to you Smiley
