6521  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you think Michael Saylor is a bit dodgy? on: July 01, 2021, 06:52:36 AM
The overall idea of bitcoin is not particularly complicated to understand (the nitty gritties of bitcoin might complicated but not the general idea). Ideas such as governments printing money, devaluation of currency, bitcoin's fixed supply and incentive driven network aren't foreign concepts to someone like Michael. It's not something that will take years to finally understand.

Yes and no.
Bitcoin is indeed scarce. Bitcoin has indeed limited supply. Indeed, as long as there's demand, with the supply remaining fixed, the price will rise. But imho it's not that easy to grasp why there's such demand for Bitcoin.
All in all, the internals are clearer than its economics, because the economics imply human reactions, which, as you noted, can change over time.

So while I expect him to understand (if he cares) the internals, it could have taken indeed some more time to digest its economics and understand its potential.

Elon Musk

Here's a difference. This guy is posting whatever suits him now, whatever he feels now and doesn't give a shit about the consequences.
Keep in mind that he's a billionaire hence he can live very well with or without Bitcoin ever existing. And he doesn't seem to take anything serious enough.

Edit: fixed typo
6522  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you think Michael Saylor is a bit dodgy? on: July 01, 2021, 06:20:40 AM
This is an educated, intelligent and high profile and long standing CEO basically doing a 180. How does that even happen?

How about JP Morgan's Jamie Dimon who wrote the bitcoin is a fraud and some years later he admitted that he was wrong? He's also a person with BMA at Harvard.
People can make mistakes in their judgement. Admitting them, learning further, ... and I'd say that educated people have better chances to learn and move forward.
So I don't see anything fishy there. When Saylor finally understood Bitcoin, he also understood that it can easily be a gold mine.
6523  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-06-23] South Korea seizes crypto assets from wealthy tax dodgers on: July 01, 2021, 06:09:42 AM
I am shaking my head. The regulators are taxing cryptoholders but they are removing taxes from banking and financial institutions? These people are sticking it in the backside of the poor and they are laughing while they are doing this.

Banksters were always working together with the governments. They always afforded to pay for lobby or directly the politicians, they were lately considered crucial for the economies (remember how much of tax payers' money these private companies received in order to not fall when their gamble didn't pay off)...

One year they receive money from governments, another year they don't pay taxes... caviar and luxury cars/boats have to be paid from somewhere and they don't intend to work for that money. Wouldn't you do the same if you could? Of course, they can declare another financial crash and receive even more money: your call.

Sadly, as long as politicians rule the world, this kind of things do happen.
6524  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is China's mining industry completely extinct? on: June 30, 2021, 05:09:06 PM
Now China's Xinjiang, Sichuan, Yunnan and other places have completely shut down all mines. At present, the computing power of the entire network has dropped very severely. There is no place for mining in China. Is it hiding at home?
Moreover, China's four major banks have already issued announcements prohibiting all transactions with digital self-currency. Without realizing channels, does mining still have a meaning?

1. We don't know for sure if this is indeed the case, we don't know if this is temporary, we know only whatever information we are allowed to find out.
2. Mining is a business. If a business man cannot do his business in a place, he may stop or may relocate. Mining can go well without China.
3. This world is way bigger than China. If China bans mining, it hurts temporarily, but it's good for long term. If China bans the use/trade of Bitcoin, it also hurts, but there are plenty of people in this world, Bitcoin will still be increasingly used and traded. And, as history has already shown, China bans on crypto just don't stay there forever.

Quote from: arrogant bastard and his lawyers
Dr Wright does not wish to restrict access to his White Paper. However, he does not agree that it should be used by supporters and developers of alternative assets

And this reminds me....
I know that this forum is very open with the freedom of speech and obvious scams are not moderated. Still, maybe that Faketoshi Vision altcoin should no longer be allowed on BitcoinTalk. "Quid pro quo"
6526  Economy / Speculation / Germany is about to allow legally the funds to invest in crypto, from July 1st on: June 30, 2021, 04:37:49 PM
I was thinking if I should post in Press or here, but I find it more appropriate here.
The news is rather old (April), but it's tomorrow when the act comes into reality.

Starting tomorrow, the investment funds from Germany will be allowed to invest up to 20% into crypto assets.
I guess that it won't be the full 20% of 1.87 trillion euro Cheesy tomorrow, but it's a good news and a good start.

6527  Economy / Speculation / Re: Using BTC only for Trading? on: June 30, 2021, 03:50:31 PM
When I did trade, I traded certain altcoins vs Bitcoin, back and forth.
But @Yogee is right. Altcoins, especially those with lower volumes, can be (and are) much more manipulated than Bitcoin markets.
Also if something exceptionally good or bad happens on Bitcoin market, it's reflected automatically in the altcoins too, so if you trade altcoins vs dollar/stablecoins it may be even more complicated.

However, my advise is to trade the coins you know, those you are familiar with the development and whatever happens now in "their world", else you may get (easily) surprised by the price movements.
6528  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and pension fund on: June 30, 2021, 10:11:55 AM
Pension funds typically provide investment options such as shares, property, cash and bonds.

1. Is Bitcoin likely to join the mix in the future?

2. Why is gold not usually available as an investment option for pension funds?

Pension funds are usually handled by private companies. So it's not actually Bitcoin who has to join, it's the companies who have to decide to make the step. And it's really up to them whether or when they do that.
Since Bitcoin is still seen as high risk, highly speculative and highly volatile asset, no wonder that most are afraid. But time works in our favor. Institutional investors "just" started coming in, we need a little more patience and probably the "labels" will become softer and more (including pension funds) will join these markets - directly or indirectly.

About gold I don't know, sorry.
6529  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gov must have power to reverse transactions, says co-chair of blockchain caucus on: June 30, 2021, 10:04:46 AM
There’s a significant sentiment, increasing sentiment, in Congress that if you’re participating in an anonymous crypto transaction that you’re a de-facto participant in a criminal conspiracy.

And here comes the way the state and government gives a shit on peoples presumption of innocence.
These rednecks ruling the countries already see us guilty until proven innocent, just because we noticed that their printed paper is not as good as they want us to believe.
6530  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: June 30, 2021, 08:33:37 AM
I was disappointed by Sweden, big time. They played pretty good until that red card (they were somewhat unlucky too). But afterwards they were busier to demolish the opponents than to actually play football, and that's a shame.  Sad

England did very good against Germany and it could have been even more interesting if Mueller wouldn't have missed. The game could have ended with any of the teams wining. England was better and luckier.

And about the previous day's (wonderful!) games, did you see this? (I don't know if it's for real, but allegedly it was also published by Bild)
6531  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: In desperate need of a Coach/mentor. on: June 30, 2021, 08:15:40 AM
with the help of a Coach

Sorry, but you're doing it wrong. If you go in this direction, you scream loudly that you have a burning desire to... get scammed.  Sad Sorry, but the world is full of bad people too and you should be fully aware of that.

No. Don't go on that path. Really.
Just start from somewhere, anywhere. Think on what you want to know (internals, use, trading, collectibles, ... name it) and start asking clear questions. The people around here is very helpful and you'll get your answers, or you'll get directed to where you can find your answers. And don't forget to search too, since many starting questions may have been already answered.

Just do all on public posts, no private messages, no telegram and other channels. This way it'll be much more difficult for anyone to scam you.
6532  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China's game plan on: June 30, 2021, 08:08:09 AM
1. So you're saying the Chinese government told the miners to temporarily shut down their machines just to create FUD? Seems a bit far fetched to temporarily shut down 60% of the network. What's in it for the miners?

I don't think that one can run a big scale business if the party doesn't know about it.
So it's actually possible to do this as a "return of favor" for allowing you to run your business and good electricity prices.

2. What about gold then? Why is China accumulating so much gold. Gold is arguably a competitor to the e-CNY too if you believe Bitcoin is a competitor.

e-CNY is central bank owned and, like the paper currency, needs to be backed by gold, nothing has change there. I think that you may be mixing up certain things...
6533  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China's game plan on: June 30, 2021, 07:15:40 AM
Hash rate has dropped by over 60% in the last few weeks
What? I saw it dropping from ~21 exahashes to just ~19.

Well, from what I see on Coinwarz chart, it was 191 EH/s in May and it's 89 EH/s today.

6534  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China's game plan on: June 30, 2021, 06:56:46 AM
How does a Bitcoin exit benefit China in the long term? What do you guys think is China's game plan?

There are here 2 direction of thought:

1. China is known for big announcements that bring the price down. We don't know if and how much hash rate was taken down in order to be relocated and how much hash rate was just temporarily stopped in order to support the FUD/pump and dump game. And yes, I tend to believe that China together with N Korea may play pump and dump games with Bitcoin.

2. Bitcoin leaving China may be somewhat beneficial for their game. They are already beta-testing e-CNY. They gave out for free quite some nice amounts of their coin in order to have it spent and tested out. Bitcoin may be seen as an unwanted competitor for this project. And yeah, you may have to read how many things a govt can do with their own centralized e-coin, from surveillance to (automatic) seizing the funds of undesirables.
6535  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Legacy Wallet on Android app? on: June 30, 2021, 06:47:20 AM
Hi, I have some funds on an old wallet that only has legacy addresses. Unfortunately, Electrum does not accept legacy deposits.

I read that there is a way to create a legacy wallet on Electrum on the desktop.

How can I do this on the Android app?

Electrum allows whatever Bitcoin blockchain allows. Hence sending funds to legacy addresses is fully allowed. There must be a misunderstanding and you should explain much better what's your problem.
The only thing I remember that may not work is that certain 3rd party services cannot handle Bech32 or SegWit addresses. However, please explain better your problem so we don't have to guess.

Now, if you really-really want to create a legacy wallet in Electrum for Android, one way would be:
1. Run offline(*) https://iancoleman.io/bip39/ or, better, https://github.com/iancoleman/bip39
2. For a few addresses copy the private keys (you may need this especially for backup)
3. When create a wallet in Electrum for Android, use "Import Bitcoin addresses or private keys" path. Paste the private key(s) or scan the QR you can see if you hover the private key on Ian Coleman page.

(*) Your funds' safety depends on how you generate, use and store these private keys. If you just open a website, stop the internet for a few minutes to use it the start internet again, that's not considered safe. Storing/transferring private keys via mail, dropbox or such is also unsafe. So I wouldn't do this for really useful/bigger wallets.
6536  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The First Bank In Mexico Is About to Start Accepting Bitcoin on: June 29, 2021, 06:08:25 PM
It all depends on politicians changing the actual law if it counters cryptocurrencies adoption. I would say that once a businessman is interested in something, all closed doors should be opened Wink

That's correct. Just it takes time and money. That's why I said "slowing down" and not "stopping"  Wink
6537  Other / Off-topic / Re: What is Craig Wrights home address? (asking for a friend) on: June 29, 2021, 06:05:18 PM
How does he pay these lawyers though, I guess his scams are paying well that he can afford this scammers.

This is a good point, and imho the pumps and dumps of that altcoin should not bring him enough money.
Actually I think that it was OP who rose this valid question at some point in another topic: whose deep pockets fund all this shit show?
6538  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 29, 2021, 06:02:42 PM
Sorry, I might not have been following the default judgement matter sufficiently because surely there could potentially be ways to still make an appearance and to preserve identity, but once a default judgement is handed down, then it would likely be harder to appeal any aspect of it.. And, in any event it seems like a potentially reasonable point in terms of merely removing the posting of the whitepaper (or the cite) from the UK.  I wonder if that resolves the issue?  Of course, there is the matter of the fine and whether to pay it, too.  Seems like paying it would more clearly cause that issue to go away, but there could be some options regarding that matter too... It would not be good to cause any situation that gives any hooks to shut down an otherwise valid website, such as the nonpayment of a fine... so of course, legal counsel would be beneficial to consider the weighing of options.

First, they may have to hand him a paper telling that he has to comply to certain things. And this may be difficult without an identity.
Second, COPA has also started this year a trial against faketoshi and after they win that one a second trial may be needed to "fix" this.
But what I'm telling is what I think it's logical, I don't know that much about how legal system works. (And the result of the current trial looks far from logical.)
6539  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I'm new here on: June 29, 2021, 01:12:50 PM
Can someone do well here without having good knowledge on cryptocurrency?

Depending on what you mean by "do well". However, keep in mind that everybody (excepting Satoshi) has started here without Bitcoin knowledge.

Can I post in non crypto related thread and still do well here?

There are various non-Bitcoin areas here, some may be of interest for you. Spend some time researching the various areas of the forum, it's big.
Just, you again come with that "do well". Do you plan to learn, discuss, help others, or you want to .. I don't know, "do well"...?

If I'm ready to learn from people's ideas and write-up here, can I hope on this site since it's all about cryptocurrency stuffs.

If you're willing to learn about crypto, you're on the right place.

I have few ideas on trading stock but I don't know if it's some how related to crypto market cos I can't just wait to explore this site. The rules are somehow confusing but I'll try and go through it again.

While TA is similar, many other things - news, dynamics, FUD, and why not pumps and dumps - may be different from stocks. Keep in mind that this is more volatile and less regulated market.
So the ideas may or may not work to be adapted.

However, start by reading and adjusting. And ask clear/punctual questions.

A friend of mine wants to send Craig S. Wright flowers and a greeting card, but he doesn't know where Craig lives. Somebody?

I think that I've read somewhere that you can call him scammer on a couple of public channels and his lawyers may be searching you. It can be a start.
