How long will it take to run initially to rebuild the database to the point where your aws instance can take over?
If it's only about 12-240 hours I can run it on my normal computer, if not, I'll purchase a vps from somewhere.

For the amount of time it would take me to reprogram the tool, I would want you to run it all the time. Smiley
It would take both of us 11-12 days.

Look into Amazon - they offer a free VPS with many OS for free - you just pay for usage over the free amount.
With my parsing tool running 24/7 it cost me about $3 last month.

6522  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BPIP problems on: April 14, 2018, 09:00:03 PM
Is there anyway other users can help? perhaps trusted forum mebers could scrape portions of the data on your behalf using their IP's.

They would need to clear it with Theymos first and get a special code to bypass the captcha.

Can I be of any help here Vod? Is it just a bot that can be run to gather the data for you - if I get a code from Theymos and use an account to gather the information (with your self-made code that scrapes the data).

Sure, I can make changes to my parser to allow multi-user.  Just PM me the user name and password once Theymos approves you.

Currently I have it running on an Amazon Windows instance.  Costs me around $2/month.
6523  Other / Meta / Re: Is this acceptable use for the merit system? on: April 14, 2018, 08:18:42 PM
I've recently created a thread in the services section where I'm giving out merit for leaving a constructive comment on my thread.

You should never give merit for a service provided; that gives merit a financial value.

Feel free to award users merit for constructive comments, but don't promise them any.

I will keep looking for investors, and retract this topic.

Lock link is at the lower left.

You sure its some bozo, and not someone who *hates* you? Undecided

Aren't they the same thing?   Grin

Aww man that sucks it'll take 22 days to get it back up.

Yep - that's the time it takes to scan 2,000,000 records at one record per 1.5 seconds.

Is there anyway other users can help? perhaps trusted forum mebers could scrape portions of the data on your behalf using their IP's.

6526  Bitcoin / Project Development / BPIP problems on: April 14, 2018, 06:06:43 PM
Some bozo has decided to attack my "unofficially announced" website - BPIP.  :/

Because the site was a hobby I did not prioritize backups.

I lost all current profile information in my MSSQL database.  Sad

I'm using this as an opportunity - since I started this as a hobby the database is a mess.  Great time to organize and make things better.  Smiley

Sorry to everyone that used the site - but it will be down/incomplete for at least 22 days.  :/

6527  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos, why are you hoarding your sMerit? on: April 14, 2018, 05:26:50 PM
I couldn't help but notice that according to your website, Quickseller is the most trusted user on Bitcointalk:

https://i.imgur.com/DNM3ub7.png
Lol, that is really there.

For the record, I had nothing to do with that. But it looks like someone might have hacked Vod's website

Yep.  Got into my database and deleted my primary table.

I have to figure out how they did it.

It may have been QS or it may have been Theymos as a revenge for this thread.   Tongue

Thread locked.  Please see

6528  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos, why are you hoarding your sMerit? on: April 14, 2018, 04:13:50 PM
It's a bit ironic that he's being stingy with his sMerits, but not surprising.

IMO the administrator of this board should be stingy.  He should be impressed only by the significant comments, and spend his energy on Administration.  Smiley
6529  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos, why are you hoarding your sMerit? on: April 14, 2018, 04:11:30 PM
I'm still waiting for a destroy merit option.

Ouch.  I'm not that far into despair yet lol.

This forum could very well be my purpose in life, so I am attempting to use all my sMerit in a responsible way.  It's just taking a lot of time I don't have at the moment.

6530  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos, why are you hoarding your sMerit? on: April 14, 2018, 04:06:42 PM
When I get back to my PC I'll investigate it.

Ok, I don't want to turn META into a troubleshooting board for my app  Tongue so I'll just post this last thing.

I recently refreshed my merit database with the database dump from Thursday night.
https://bitcointalk.org/merit.txt.xz

The probability is 57820/58119 (99.5%) that your problem lies in those records.
6531  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos, why are you hoarding your sMerit? on: April 14, 2018, 03:18:04 PM
Hmm, I tested my account but the calculations are not correct,
http://dev.martinlawrence.ca/bpip/profile.aspx?p=iasenko

It says that I have at least 36 smerit but I actually have only 21.

I'll upload a screenshot for proof when I get to my PC Smiley

How can that be?

You have received 175 merit means you have 87 sMerit, of which you have spent 51.

I parse the new merits from here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=recent

It doesn't show WHO the merit is sent to, so I have to calculate that.  I hope there isn't a bug.  :/

I'll make a link to show each individual merit rating.

6532  Other / Politics & Society / Re: End his/her life because of being poor on: April 14, 2018, 06:30:52 AM
Somebody here heard a story about someone who committed suicide because of being poor? I am just curious, for until now I heard nothing that someone was committed such thing because of being poor.

I would expect that the number of poor people will increase in the future, as will the number of people committing suicide.  :/

Knowledge is spreading - it's no longer a "sin" to kill yourself as there is no such thing as a soul.

If you hate the movie so far, no sense sticking around until the end...

(Someone please point QuickSeller to this thread)
6533  Other / Meta / Re: Tools to improve your English Writing on: April 14, 2018, 06:18:02 AM
Or alternatively, learn English.

Many free English courses....
6534  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos, why are you hoarding your sMerit? on: April 14, 2018, 06:12:47 AM
Is he really hoarding it? I don't think so or maybe got no time for giving that much of sMerit to those who deserve it, after all he's still a forum member(admin) that's capable of receiving merits and we can't do anything about it  Embarrassed.

I agree.  I have to struggle to spend more merit than I take in.   It's not that there is no worthy content, it's just I am busy, and being fair in rewarding merit takes time and resources.  :/

I am going to have to increase my merit amount per submission.  Inflation I guess.  Smiley
6535  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos, why are you hoarding your sMerit? on: April 14, 2018, 05:18:08 AM
He actually has unlimited sMerit.

Only if he wants to cheat the system.

Interesting how your mind comes to that...

Shameless plug I know, but 777 sMerit?  Wow!
6537  Other / Meta / Re: Original members of bitcointalk, what do you think about BTC today? on: April 14, 2018, 03:22:06 AM
Im 34 and legitimately have just signed up to these forums im just wondering what some of the original bitcoiners think about BTC and the world today...

Hey 34.

This forum used to be an interesting place.  People talked bitcoin and the technology surrounding it.  I used to run a mining pool and was very involved.

The scammer phase didn't bother me too much, as I had fun busting them.

But when the signature campaigns started, it attracted all the desperate people from non-English backward countries that still believe in magic.  :/

This is no longer a technical forum about bitcoin - it's just an open casino where security seems to be understaffed.
6538  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why should there be a so called nuclear winter? I don't get the concept... on: April 14, 2018, 02:02:11 AM
I mean, okay, multiple strikes, yada yada... then what? why should it be cold? why should there be more clouds? what ever is in the air will fall with the rain and gravity... like the fukushima trails...

It will fall from gravity yes, but it make take many months.   Ash is so fine and there would be so much of it, the sun wouldn't shine for at least one growing season, killing off most of the human population.

If the bombs detonate above the ground then the fallout would be minimized.  The enemy would do that when they want to preserve the infrastructure.
6539  Other / Off-topic / Re: Time to pay it forward - giving away 10 sMerit points to 'Members' on: April 13, 2018, 10:28:24 PM
I've managed to reach a nice round number of sMerits to give away, so thought I'd try and help some of my fellow members bump up to the next rank. 10 sMerits on offer, so going to give away a maximum of 2 sMerit per post I find interesting

Why is this in Meta?

Everyone does this - that is how the system works.

Move this to Beginners and Help please.
6540  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: ETH SCAM --- BE CAREFUL --- WILL REWARD 2 ETH on: April 13, 2018, 02:34:17 AM
So this Joker on Twitter posted a retweet which I thought was from CoinDesk giving up to 500 ETH if you send in a small amount to the following address.
Binance had a similar giveaway like a few months ago, so I thought it was the same, but it turned out to be a scam site. I am out about 6.52 ETH and it looks like SCAMMER isnt going to give it back.
Looks like a few more people got hit it with as well.

If you can retrieve or assist me successfully get my 6.52 ETHER back, I will give you a 2 ETHER reward. At this point, I just want these guys to not get away with what they are doing. I need your HELP.
Please assist if you can...

Here is the scammer's wallet:

https://etherscan.io/address/0xe6693620c549d35c52496a1cb0105f2712baf771

You should move this (control at lower left) to Scam Accusations.

There is no way you can recover a crypto coin; you know that.  :/
