6561  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X Battery Pandemic on: January 01, 2022, 07:50:11 PM
<Snip>
The Nano X has become a suck fest of a hardware wallet to the point that there is no more turning back. I am so glad that I got the Nano S a few years ago and was never tempted to acquire version X. More precisely, the older generations seem OK. It's these new ones that are completely messed up. They should just get rid of it and replace it with the Nano S Plus. They obviously don't know how to fix the problem or are looking for the cheapest possible solution that turns out not to be a solution at all but the birth of new problems.
6562  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Fixed mindset you shouldn't crossover to 2022 as a BTT member on: January 01, 2022, 12:25:55 PM
That PI network crap is still around? I thought it would be burred until now. Don't the people who "mine" and use that find it weird that the asset is not listed anywhere and can't be traded? I think Borat's Kazakhstani pubic hair could have a greater market share and use case than PI.

You can always mine bitcoin with your PC. It is just usually not worth it.
Or you can be rewarded with Bitcoin for cloud-mining an altcoin. A friend of mine used Nicehash I think (or some similar platform). His GPU worked on some altcoin while the platform was giving him his share in BTC. He did make certain gains, but very little. Generally speaking, most cloud-mining platforms are pure scams. I suggested that if he is interested in mining, he should simply check what is the most profitable currency to mine with his GPU and once he has enough, covert his profits to BTC. After a while he abandoned the idea altogether.
6563  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Create and earn on: January 01, 2022, 12:03:59 PM
Generally speaking, thread starters earn a lot of merits. In many cases, they will be rewarded more than those who reply in their threads. But that's not always the case. The thread needs to be of a good quality. It can be interesting, unique, tackle a problem in a different way, solve a certain issue, etc.

However, if the OP contains wrong information, lies, incomplete data, plagiarism, is badly written with wrong grammar, and is just ugly-looking, those who find mistakes, make corrections, and suggest ways to make it better are the members who will get the majority of the merits. Not everyone knows or wants to create interesting threads. But they can still provide good feedback and they know how to get their message across.

Many members in this forum receive high amount of merits for things that doesn't require a perfect understanding of Bitcoin. Scam busting and reporting for example. Or those who search and find plagiarism or create stats, reviews, etc.

You need to stick to your strengths, and do the best you can. If the community notices that you made an effort in whatever you wrote or created, you will be awarded with merits.
6564  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Your gambling mistakes and amendment on: January 01, 2022, 11:04:24 AM
I have kept my betting activities during 2021 to a minimum. It wasn't an easy year for anyone considering the pandemic, the lookdowns, and all the deaths. Since I didn't travel a lot, I didn't gamble either. The last thing I want to do is cause further harm to my family by making reckless decisions such as gambling away funds that could have been spent in a smarter way.

Stay safe out there during 2022. Don't be weak and become a victim to all kinds of addictions.
6565  Other / Meta / Re: Report plagiarism (copy/paste) here. Mods: please give temp or permban as needed on: January 01, 2022, 10:06:46 AM
I noticed the same thing. I only did a plagiarism check on Chapter 1 and noticed that it's copied word for word, so I never checked the rest. But since the other sections have the same subject titles, most of them (if not all) are probably copy-pasted as well. I posted in the OPs thread asking him if he is the owner of the website where the information was taken from. Let's see what he says.
6566  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: How To Verify the Downloaded Version of Ledger Live on: January 01, 2022, 09:59:04 AM
Another thing that I realized with the Ledger Live download signatures page is that they removed the links to download the Windows version of Ledger Live. When I initially created this thread, it was still available. While going through the older versions from the dropdown menu, the last release whose Windows link was posted was v2.34.4. Starting from 2.35.0 and onwards, there are only download links for MAC and Linux.

Doesn't really make sense to me. Having them all there would make it easier to download all the needed files for the verification.
6567  Other / Meta / Re: @theymos - Request: Multisig addresses for treasurers on: January 01, 2022, 09:36:47 AM
Interesting, I didn't know that but then again I don't use TOR, it's slow af for me and I don't see the benefit when most exit nodes are NSA from what I read...
TOR is made up of several circuits. The exit node doesn't know where the original message came from and who sent it unless the same party also controls the entry node. So in theory, you should be safe if you use ONLY an NSA controlled exit node, but not an NSA entry node.
6568  Other / Meta / Re: Have you had the feeling of a certain arbitrariness by moderators? on: January 01, 2022, 08:54:35 AM
I sometimes see threads intentionally posted in the wrong sections and I don't mind it. For example, I remember instances where some users created threads in technical Bitcoin sub-boards, apologized that they did it, said they knew it doesn't belong there, but asked to not have the threads moved to where they belong. Honestly, I don't mind it. And since those threads remained there for days (no idea what happened to them once the problems were solved), it's safe to assume that the mods didn't mind either or that they weren't reported by other forum members.

If someone has a genuine question about an altcoin and the topic of discussion may be somewhat related to Bitcoin, why not start such a thread in a board not frequented by shitposters? A user may be interested in an altcoin, but still care what the forum's Bitcoin maximalists have to say because he values their judgement.
6569  Other / Archival / Re: What really is bitcoin - Explain it from another point of view on: January 01, 2022, 08:36:36 AM
I just checked chapter 1 and the parts which I entered into a plagiarism checker match 100% with the information provided on https://www.what-really-is-bitcoin.com/. Is that your site? Did you write the content or copy/paste it from there or from some other source/sources?

If you used other sources while creating your thread, you need to indicate which ones. Even if it's your content from a different website.
6570  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to send wallet to wallet while protecting your private key on: January 01, 2022, 08:26:53 AM
Custodial service providers decided that they could call their accounts "wallets", and the community let them get away with it. That ship has sailed, and there's no getting it back. So, now we're stuck distinguishing between "custodial wallets" and "non-custodial wallets".
That's because the majority of users don't care where those coins are as long as they can see the correct balance and have the ability to trade or withdraw "their" Bitcoin when they want to. Most people aren't even concerned that they don't own the private keys of "their" coins, let alone that a P2P account balance update between two customers of exchange X was involved in a Bitcoin transaction or not.

Nice of you to chip in. So Jerry PMed you as well. I guess there are very few people who weren't contacted by him with the same questions.
If you PMed him with the same exact instructions, he is now going to ask you about each step and ask if that is the best way to do it and if everyone else does it that way as well. I can't figure out why he needs instructions in a thread that has provided those instructions by myself and other users who have chipped in and explained various ways to do it.
6572  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Sportsbet.io End of year PROMOTION! win CASH+FREE BETS easy! on: December 31, 2021, 05:26:09 PM
I was surprised by a number of sports in the list.
I would never guess that Baseball is more popular than American Football. I also expected that table tennis would be further down the list.
When comparing Aussie Rules with Volleyball, my bet would always be that Volleyball (a sport popular in many parts of the world) would have the bigger market share than Aussie Rules (exclusively played on Australian soil).

Thanks for the this interesting competition.
Happy New Year everyone!
6573  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why should Gambling be legalized ? on: December 31, 2021, 10:59:59 AM
Prostitution is the oldest craft, there's no way it can be totally banned, and some countries are trying that... the same is with gambling and drugs! We should be free to do what we want with our money and body!
Making something illegal just creates greater desire to pursue that illegal activity.

A friend of mine had an apartment that he rented out to students. One girl who lived in it proposed after a while that they change the original agreement. He found her very attractive and she noticed it. One day she proposed three scenarios: She says: I can continue paying rent as we originally agreed. Or I pay 50% of the original fee, and we have sex a couple of times each month. The third option would be having sex a couple of more times for no rent at all. That's prostitution for you. Good luck to governments trying to control that. Roll Eyes

She caught him off guard because he didn't expect it and never before got such an offer. I am not going to tell which option he chose and if I "helped" in any way. Use your imagination.

6576  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to send wallet to wallet while protecting your private key on: December 31, 2021, 09:14:49 AM
OP could have a paper wallet. He might have been told or read that to spend the coins from the printed address, he needs to import the private key into a wallet. Well, that is true. If your address and private key are printed on a paper wallet, the only way to spend those coins is by importing the data into a wallet or scanning the corresponding QR codes.

But if you are dealing with a software, you don't need to worry about copy-pasting or importing private keys during the transaction broadcasting process. The software signs the transaction with the needed private key. What you should be worried about is not storing sensitive data like private keys or seed phrases in a digital form or on online services.
6577  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Recovering wallet with .dat files (no key phrases) on: December 31, 2021, 09:01:22 AM
Will you tip all of us or give reward it would be nice of you then.
Why do you think you should be given a reward because of your post in which you think prune mode needs to be disabled? All you did was to repeat what nc50lc wrote. OP can reward those who helped him if he wants to, but he shouldn't feel obliged to do it. Information is free. If he does though, you shouldn't be among those who receive anything.
6578  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: what is data size of a transaction? on: December 31, 2021, 08:42:31 AM
Every node maintains it's own mempool.  The transactions in one node's mempool will generally be pretty similar to the transactions in another node's mempool simply because they've both received the same transactions relayed throughout the entire network, and the same blocks.  However, there is no guarantee that any one node has exactly the same list of transactions in their mempool as any other.  One node may not have heard about a transaction that another node did, or one node may have already dropped a transaction from it's mempool that another node has not.
And as a node operator, I could configure my node not to accept transactions with low transaction fees. For example, anything below 3 sat/vByte won't be included in my mempool. Another node might not include transactions below 5 sat/vByte. The reasons why they might want to do that aren't important, but it is possible. With such a difference in the configurations, nodes A, B, and C can't possible have the same unconfirmed transactions in their mempools because Node A accepts a minimum fee of 1 sat/vByte, Node B requires 3 sat/vByte, and Node C accepts nothing below 5 sat/vByte.
6579  Other / Meta / Re: Is raffling an NFT for free breaking any forum rules in the collectables section on: December 30, 2021, 02:45:29 PM
The forum might want to get better at deciding whether it wants to maintain its "we only have unofficial rules" stance.
The rules are official, it's the list that mprep made that is unofficial.

The way I see it. If I am not allowed to give away altcoin A, you shouldn't be allowed to give away altcoin B. If altcoin B can't be given away, altcoins C and D shouldn't be either.
I wouldn't have anything against the idea, same way as I wouldn't mind people give away altcoins if that is what they desire. But, it's not allowed.
6580  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Donation Campaign For 15-Year-Old Swimmer Lana Pudar on: December 30, 2021, 12:59:07 PM
It's funny that her own website don't have translation in local languages but only in English, that makes me think how someone else (maybe Blocsport.one) made this website for here to advertise their own (BLS) token(s).
Yeah, probably Blocsport.one in a partnership with nftdeals.io. If you go to https://nftdeals.io/ and check the Athletes section, you can find many similar collections for other world athletes.

Let's wait and see if she replies to you Smiley
I am not sure how Instagram classifies messages and is there such a thing as spam messages if they are received from someone outside your friends circle. The other option and way of contact would be to go through the TV station and TV show she was a guest on (owned by the same person) and try to establish contact that way.
