6581  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Investing with crypto and other coins in the UK - The future of crypto? on: March 03, 2018, 02:41:32 PM
The Bank of England is owned by the Rothschilds and not the Government, so you don't have to worry about their comments. The Royal Mint created a gold backed blockchain called Royal Mint Gold ( RMG ), so the government is not opposed to the concept of crypto. There does seem to be opposition to unregulated exchanges, especially if they allow Bitcoin and other crypto to be purchased on credit.
6582  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Requirement for Member Proposal on: March 03, 2018, 02:31:51 PM

ps English isn't my native language. And I just want to improve it. That's why I post in English threads. I'm not interested in merits here :/

Well that raises an interesrting possibility. How about an english training board? If membersare going to use the general boards to improve their english, then it would be better to have a special interest board where english speaking members could help them.

I thought the farmers were the ones with all the merits. Smiley

6585  Economy / Speculation / Re: The first chartist - this will surprise you. on: March 03, 2018, 11:03:33 AM
Wikipedia seems to link him with Cambridge, but I remember him as bursar of an Oxford college. I need to do some more research I guess. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_Bacon

Don't believe everything your read about America inventing everything. It was an Englishman who invented the Internet. Smiley

I posted this from memory, and it's a long time since I had associations with the stock market and Oxford. In fact, at that time the London Stock Exchange had stock jobbers as well as brokers, and you weren't allowed on the floor of the stock exchange if you were wearing brown shoes.
6586  Economy / Speculation / The first chartist - this will surprise you. on: March 03, 2018, 09:34:04 AM
Studying charts has become an extremely complex science, but who was the first person to use charts, and when? The  answer will surprise you, and it shows that the science is much older that you probably expected.

Francis Bacon ( 1597-1625) was the bursar at an Oxford college, and he was responsible for investing some of the college wealth. He developed a price movement theory which became known as " Random Walk" ( Brownian movement in physics ). Here is an article that discusses it.
https://corporatefinanceinstitute.com/resources/knowledge/trading-investing/what-is-the-random-walk-theory/

Francis Bacon made a lot of money for his college by basing a short term trading strategy on his random walk analysis,

I have so many members on my ignore list, it's insane.

I had to sit on my hands to stop myself suggesting that we had a central ignore list. Smiley
6588  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can I still claim my free Bitcoin Cash and/or Bitcoin gold? on: March 03, 2018, 01:22:29 AM
NO, you can't claim it now it was only available at the time of launch.

HaHa! another know-nothing newbie to put on ignore. Smiley

I found this tool useful to check for the availability of forked coins
https://someone235.github.io/btc-forks-balance/

which reminds me - I need to claim mine.
6589  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any Newbies on here have a steemit account? on: March 03, 2018, 01:15:37 AM
I'm a newbie to Steemit. My account was approved yesterday, so I haven't had a chance to do anything yet.

I plan to use it to brand a new range of products, and I have never done this before. The brand name is upr8, and I own the .com. I won't have any stock, and I won't charge for any products, the idea is to create your own product from everyday items that you already have, or you can get for nothing. For example -

upr8 healthy gums. Gum disease is painful and can lead to loss of teeth. Current remedies are based on the use of antibiotics, which affects the whole body and can damage the immune system. upr8 healthy gums goes straight to the problem, and just treats the damaged area. This minimises any risk of side effects. The treatment is simple, just add a bit of sea salt to some warm water, and rinse the mouth twice a day. This kills the bacteria that causes most gum disease. It can be used as a prevention as well as a cure.

I'm looking at video editing software that I can use on a notebook ( core i5 at the moment ), so any tips about this would be really helpful.

Shocking to hear that - he doesn't look to be very old.

I hope he can rest in peace.
6591  Other / Meta / Re: Does merit really helping the forum. on: March 03, 2018, 12:22:24 AM
Of course it is helping the forum - look how many merit threads and posts it has created. Smiley
6592  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is the hashing power of the users insignificant? on: March 02, 2018, 03:53:59 PM
I suspect he is trying to harness some of . the processing power on all the nodes that are online, and use that for a bit of mining.

My node is only online whilst I am synchronising the blockchain, and it runs as a background task. I'm afraid that I wouldn't want to give up any processing, especially if I didn't get any reward ( would I keep the coins if I found a block? )
6593  Other / Meta / Re: You are unable to post. How to enable posting. on: March 02, 2018, 02:40:09 PM
I like the idea of using a dedicated address. This means that if I sell something to someone who doesn't have a Bitcoin address, he can still pay me by giving his dedicated address to an exchange, and then paying them in fiat.
6594  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: In Germany, bitcoin was recognized as legal tender on: March 02, 2018, 02:01:26 PM
I don't understand how any country can rule that Bitcoin is legal tender. Legal tender is a means of payment that has to be accepted in settlement of a debt. In view of the fact that only a minority of the population are able to receive Bitcoin, I don't see how any government can enforce a ruling that it must be accepted.
6595  Other / Meta / Re: I've still got 80 sMerit to give away. on: March 02, 2018, 12:27:23 PM
I'm locking this thread because I am still getting PMs and posts from people asking me to review their posts. I don't do this, as I have posted several times.
6596  Other / Meta / Re: A juniot members suggestion for newbies first posts. on: March 02, 2018, 12:22:11 PM
we are not here to know each other which we can't even do knowing the number of people that exist on this forum.

So the trust system is a waste of resources, and should be deleted.

Similarly, it's a waste of time reporting sold accounts, merit traders, ICO spammers and people with no interest in Bitcoin or crypto.

I don't agree with the comments I made above, but then I believe that letting spammers consolidate their spamming into long tail threads is a good idea where some of the posts are constructive. Obviously board policy agrees with this, and this can be confirmed by looking at the index pages on many of the boards.

It looks as if the majority don't agree with me, so I'll close this thread.
6597  Other / Meta / Re: A juniot members suggestion for newbies first posts. on: March 02, 2018, 11:30:16 AM
Any thread on the Bitcoin Discussion board with more than a few hundred replies is a redundant spam thread with repeated and copy posted replies in my opinion.

An introduction thread on the Beginners board would consolidate the individual new threads into one place, and this would clean up the index page.

It's really just a suggestion that I am repeating. I don't visit the discussion or the beginners boards for reasons that I have already stated, so it doesn't affect me directly. Moving the newbie spam off some of the other boards would be a great help though.
6598  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Bitcoin - HYIP? on: March 02, 2018, 11:17:35 AM
Who really knows why Bitcoin was created - it certainly wasn't as a HYIP.

My own view is that it was created by a Government or Deep State agency as an experiment before releasing a global coin to replace fiat  currencies. It has been adopted by a number of very talented people and communities, and the creators must have learnt a lot from its evolution. So where does that leave its direction for the future? They were clever enough to build in limits that prevent it from becoming a world class volume payment service, so it will never be able to threaten the banks' own systems. Now they have to reign it in, and the likes of Goldman Sachs have been manipulation the market, and buying coins for long term holdings. This provides them with a great store of wealth, and it restricts the availability of Bitcoin for more traditional payment options. I think they will continue to do this, and that will lead to a steady and strong growth in the price of Bitcoin.
6599  Economy / Speculation / Re: Best alternative investments? on: March 02, 2018, 10:54:01 AM
I think stocks are on the edge of a massive drop, and I'm pleased that I'm out of them. p/e ratios are insane, and the prices have been ramped up quite shamelessly. Companies have been saddling themselves with debt just to buy back their shares, and now they don't have the revenue to service their debt.

In fact there is so much government, corporate and personal debt that is turning toxic, that anything that is fiat based looks risky to me.

This guy spends quite a bit of time talking about copper in this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnT6NNRaAFE
Copper has been considered an economic barometer for many years, and infact many people refer to it as Dr Copper because of this.

The English Royal Mint has two ranges of gold coins - the Sovereign and the Britannia. They are legal tender, and thus they are VAT and CGT exempt. I'm a bit late to start collecting them, but they are looking attractive at the moment.
6600  Other / Meta / Re: A juniot members suggestion for newbies first posts. on: March 02, 2018, 09:22:02 AM

@Jet Cash, at first I agreed with your opinion, but after reading hilariousandco explanation... he is totally right. But I can't get rid of the feeling that somehow it would be good to have introduction thread. Maybe in the future...

My original idea was a new member introduction and questions board, and all new members would have to make at least 5 posts in it before they could move on. That didn't seem to meet with much approval though.

With regard to the comment about it becoming a large spamming thread - we already have several of those, and they serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever. Why aren't those deleted? At least an intro thread would serve a useful purpose.
