got this running on my raspberry pi now for testing purposes with small amount of funds, and it's working as intended so far. But I got a little problem: how can I run the bot in background, I can't fork the process to background using "&" because I won't be prompted for the decryption password, and if I close the SSH session the process gets killed.
probably you can run it from screen

Either I did something wrong, or it didn't work for me.... First it told me to try again later (something was offline, I don't remember the exact error message)... I pressed back and tried again... Now it says "Registration is pending confirmation" and asks for 1 xrp (though I am pretty sure I've sent it).
It also shows some Issue Addresses and says that Redemption Addresses are "none" (though I specified them).
Btw, what is Issue Addresses?
Thanks for testing it out. The "try again later" message was probably just a warning that all processing was a few seconds old. I'm trying to understand the workflow, you entered your ripple address in the search bar. From there, you had the option to enter a BTC/LTC/TRC address (not necessary if you don't want to redeem IOUs in DR). Hitting 'register' should prompt you to send 1 XRP to the dividend rippler address with ?dt=1. You may be all set up. If you see issue addresses, then you definitely are set up! An issue address is how you create a DR IOU in your ripple address. Sending to that address gives you ripple credits. Sending from ripple to DR's ripple address destroys the IOU and you will receive funds at the redemption addresses. Feel free to PM/post your ripple address and I'll check to see. Thanks for the quick reply! Now I understand a bit better what a ripple gateway is, thanks )

But block reward halves every 4 years. By the time when 1 btc costs ~$1mln, block reward would probably be somewhere around 0. So miners would compete for fees. And more miners we have - less fees they charge due to competition. Inefficient miners will quit business, the ones that use cheap energy and efficient hardware will stay for long. Not sure how to estimate their total power consumption though. I think it depends mainly on bitcoin fees.

Can you withdraw from btc-e via an application?
I don't think so. Here is the API. I don't see deposit/withdrawal functions there.
|
|
|
Do you have code to withdraw from btc-e via app?
Sorry, I didn't understand the question. Did you mean withdrawal API, or btc-e redeemable code?

In future when Bitcoin dominates the universe and 1 satoshi costs a lot, pirate40 will repent sincerely and invest 0.01 btc into research of time machine.... then he will collect painfully all the stolen coins and send them back to the trusted community member in a box with his apologies...
So my guess is stolen coins and a letter from pirate

Can't you just maintain USD balances at both, and execute the trades simultaneously? Don't they have free methods of withdrawal (that take a few days). If you have a buffer of BTC and USD at both you should be able to execute your arbitrage and even the balances out periodically right? Am I missing something?
Yes, that's what I suggest too since funds transfers may take much time. But you can't deposit to btc-e or withdraw from btc-e without fees (unless you use btc-e redeemable code). If you live in the USA, you can withdraw almost for free with Dwolla, but I am not sure what is the best way to deposit to btc-e from Dwolla. OKPay is probably the easiest option and not that expensive. It also offers a debit card, so you can cash out with ATM

Current advertisers pay ~ 0.0013 Ƀ per thousand unique impressions in average (this is quite cheap, but may change anytime).

You can buy your coins at btc-e, they are cheaper there. Deposits from okpay to btc-e are instant.

so it is possible to abuse BitPay... and other buyers will pay for people that do it (since such losses will be included in BitPay fees)... interesting.

I am not an IT professional but it seems like there are some ideas to improve the situation. I suppose the next logical question is why mtgox isn't doing anything. Or why they aren't communicating. The message on their site about letting the market "cool down" was very bizarre. I am confused by all of this. Did they close to update server capacity or to let the market "cool down"? If they didn't do anything to improve the situation why are they open now? Opening again and being faced with the exact same problems isn't helpful to anyone.
I am not in any kind of hurry to buy or sell, I am just sitting on my coins and watching. It just seems that mtgox isn't doing anything to help themselves.
I think they said somewhere that they were upgrading servers... and announced that they are letting the market to cool down. But I really don't understand why they don't limit amount of orders and requests per user/bot if their engine can't process large amounts of orders in a timely fashion.

hardware upgrade obviously couldn't solve their problem...

Surprisingly withdrawals from MtGox work. It took less than an hour to withdraw from MtGox to OKPay.

Yes, it is fair. It doesn't handle load, so it is good that they stopped that soap opera and try to fix things. And it is good that other exchanges probably receive more attention. I think all this is good for the long term future of bitcoin.
