661  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] [Highest Paid Signature] Earn up to 2.4 BTC/Month by Posting on: March 01, 2014, 07:31:34 AM
Can we do a workaround and add it to our posts instead of our signature space? At least for the members and under

pretty sure that will get members suspended and eventually banned.  Circumventing the rules is not a good idea.  We don't want the mods around here deleting the sig option altogether.
662  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Official CaVirtex.com Thread on: March 01, 2014, 01:30:24 AM
I'm gonna add my level 1 verification experience with CaVirtex.

I started the procedure on February 13th around 8pm at night when I uploaded my documents and entered my phone number.  They called my on February 21st to verify my account, a call that I missed. So if I would have answered my phone it would have taken 8 days roughly.

They sent me an email asking when the best time to call was.  They called me back on the 24th.

The lady was super nice on the phone and the verification over the phone lasted around 5 minutes.  It took about 15 minutes after the call to get an email saying my account was verified.

*whoops, didn't realize that I mentioned my account was verified. Oh well, this post is a little more detailed.*

663  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] [Highest Paid Signature] Earn up to 2.4 BTC/Month by Posting on: February 28, 2014, 09:54:31 AM
If the rates are reduced since the sig isn't as big, I can understand that. I'm not gonna be really happy about it though.

If the rate does get reduced for the lower members, I hope that we can at least get paid the full amount for the eligible posts that we did make before the forced sig changes.
664  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin now at $600 and will never go under this price again on: February 28, 2014, 08:34:01 AM
Right now, we are playing the  waiting,  until we have a valid confirmation of the Gox Question.

Until then, it will be from 450-550.  If gox comes back up, we might see 800+ within a month or two.  IF IT Doesn't, then flat 450 maybe to 380.00

As someone who just deposited $2000 into an exchange, I'm trying to figure out what price I should buy Bitcoins at.  This fluctuation in price makes me nervous. Obviously I'm in this for the long haul, but buying at say $300 or up to $600 to $800 would have huge ramifications down the road if Bitcoin hits big numbers.

The more I read, the bigger my headache and indecision gets, LOL!

Do I wait or do I buy now? Well, in a few days when my money hits the exchange.
665  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cavirtex.ca has obtained a Money Services Business License In Canada on: February 28, 2014, 03:47:48 AM
I was at the bitcoin meet up on wednesday and a Cavirtex representative announced that Cavirtex is the first bitcoin company in Canada or even the world with a local Money Service Business License. This means that Cavirtex will be under FINTRAC compliance. Cavirtex will announce this news soon.

Since my account:waldoxwaldox was barred from posting on reddit.com/r/bitcoin im breaking it here first

I've been leery about depositing money after the gox incident.  I have completed my verification, but have been on the fence about them.  After some reviews I've seen from people and now this.  I'm gonna assume that they are 100% legit.

Great news going forward

Thanks IamCANADIAN013, it's always on the page I didn't look at, sigh. sigs are useless here.

Has no-one thought forward as to the implications of this rule that has been implemented.

A newbie is now encouraged to make a pile of useless posts, in order to earn the capability of a full sig.

Now, what appears to be a contradiction.

From the page for newbies.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=177133.0

Don't make threads or posts solely for putting up referral links, that's what signatures are for.

and from the very next post,

FORUM RULES

    NO SPAM
NO BEGGING (AKA ASKING FOR BITCOINS)
    NO REFERRAL LINKS

If no referral links are allowed, why does it say "that is what signatures are for"?
If no begging is allowed, why are there so many sigs with wallet addresses?

I hereby reserve the right to appear stupid, I am a newbie. :-)

Post count doesn't really influence your rating on here a great deal I believe. From here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=237597.msg2513302#msg2513302

The activity number is determined in this way:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Activity is updated every 30 minutes.

My understanding of that is that posts are a very small portion of your rating, its more about the time you are on the board.

If a person make a pile of useless posts they can expect to be reported and eventually suspended or banned is my guess.

It's not like this is some kind of race or status thing.
668  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Disallow Ads in Signatures on: February 27, 2014, 06:43:59 AM
I have just now attempted to create a new sig.
It keeps getting chopped short.

I attempted to use blue and mysite

It won't let me create a sig.

I can use this
Code:
[url=http://www.vk3ukf.com]VK3UKF[/url]

but not this
Code:
[url=http://www.vk3ukf.com]My amateur radio website VK3UKF[/url]

It appears to have a character length limit imposed on it.
Why?

Where are the instructions to new users on how to use BB codes for signatures on this forum?
I can't find them, despite searching.
Is someone fiddling with the sig code?

It's because of your member status.  From earlier in this thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=484259.msg5393088#msg5393088

- Newbie: No styling (including links) allowed. Max 40 characters.
- Jr. Member: Links allowed. Max 100 characters.
- Member: Unlimited length.
- Full: Color allowed.
- Sr. Member: Size allowed
- Hero: Background color allowed

Since you are of newbie status, you can't can only use 40 characters, that is why it keeps getting chopped off. Same goes for the color, you have to be a full member.

669  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People actually thought bitcoin was dead because of MtGox? on: February 27, 2014, 06:06:44 AM
Collapsed? That certainly is worrisome... No worries we will take a look and see what is wrong.

Please show me on the chart exactly where Bitcoin collapsed:

Funny, I have been trying to get an acquaintance to help out financially with my mining operation. He's a financial advisor for a reputable bank in Southern California and has been a top producer in large county for 17 years. I have been advising him to get involved in anyway possible, even of he doesn't go my route. Yesterday we had lunch and we were talking about various things and Bitcoin came up. I touched on throwing me some capital and he responded, "you obviously haven't been watching T.V this week." I forget sometimes that people are satisfied with reading headline news all the time to get their share of information. Not that it doesn't suffice in some circumstances, but damn you'd assume educated people would do a bit more research to realize that this will be nothing but a blimp in the timeline of Bitcoin's lifespan.

Sometimes it can be frustrating talking with people about Bitcoin
. People see EVERY SINGLE con of crypto-currencies, and essentially forget about all the negatives of fiat we have experienced in the recent past.

It really can be, and it's why I stopped trying with some people.  I figure time will prove them wrong, and/or they will take the time to learn about it as I did. People can be so narrow minded when it comes to things they don't understand.  I have to admit, I thought bad about Bitcoin as well when I first heard about it.  At least I was willing to go into learning about it with an open mind.
670  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Disallow Ads in Signatures on: February 27, 2014, 05:44:49 AM
While I'm not really a fan of this, I can see why it's needed.  I liked the fact I could see my post so much easier when scrolling by my sig.

I've never understood why people do spam posts. I try to make my posts worth while and hope they add substance to the discussion.  It's a shame we all get punished because of the actions of others, but that's how society seems to work.

I do have a question regarding reporting posts.  If someone reports a post does the person got notified their post has been reported?
671  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People actually thought bitcoin was dead because of MtGox? on: February 27, 2014, 05:15:48 AM
I've been messing around with Bitcoin for a little over a month now.  So many people have called me an idiot for getting involved in it and laugh at the concept.  They are the ones that no nothing about it.  I've explained to a few close friends what it's all about and now they're learning about it as well.

When gox hit the fan and Bitcoin "collapsed" the phone started ringing and the Facebook messages started to come.  The "I told you so" was in full force with some people saying I had thrown all my money away and everyone lost all their Bitcoins.  The mainstream media coverage of the death of Bitcoin didn't help.

I'm actually surprised that so many people not only think it's dead, but are happy that it's apparently dead.  It's like they enjoy being ripped off by central banking.
672  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Official CaVirtex.com Thread on: February 27, 2014, 03:49:08 AM
So my account has finally been verified, it only took a couple weeks.  Was thinking about depositing some money to get some Bitcoin, but reading the last couple comments, i'm now nervous to do so.

Maybe I'm just paranoid since the gox thing, but I'm not really a fan of losing money.

Are there any users here that are using them without issues?
673  Economy / Economics / Re: Worst bitcoin decision you've ever made? on: February 25, 2014, 06:49:26 AM
To not take it seriously when I first heard about it. Someone posted about it on an online forum I belong to and I laughed it off.  I wish I would have researched it more than just what was posted in the thread.  The mining portion was never really explained but if it was, I would have been greatly intrigued.

I was off work waiting for back surgery so I was looking for a hobby.  Instead I ended up dropping a couple grand at an online casino. I would have much rather "gambled" with bitcoin.

Oh well, what could have been.
674  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why are BTC prices not moving ? on: February 25, 2014, 05:38:17 AM
Mtgox seems down still. Not loading for me.

MTgox is done. So is the twitter account. Likely insolvent. (Bankrupt)
675  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why are BTC prices not moving ? on: February 25, 2014, 04:14:44 AM
I haven't been to this thread in a while, but BTC prices are definitely moving now...just in the completely wrong direction.   I wonder where we are going to stabilize off.  I will admit that I thought we had hit the bottom, and purchased some more, so I am definitely in the red on those coins so far Sad

Until gox is officially done the price is going to drop further. Mark Karpeles resigned from the board of bitcoin foundation earlier today. It would also appear the gox is down, perhaps for good.  Things are going to get much worse before they get better, if they get better than the price currently is.

I feel for anyone who has money in gox right now. Pretty sure they can kiss that money goodbye.
676  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup on: February 24, 2014, 07:57:24 AM
I have a question regarding the Miners user:pass field.  I've bounced the cube around to a few different pools to mine different coins and I haven't changed the field once.  I'm also using different Worker names and passwords as well.

Does it affect the cubes performance at all?
677  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Tell me what's worth mining today. on: February 24, 2014, 06:39:13 AM
I've been mining Battlecoin for a couple days just to try something different. I've trying to find what the most profitable SHA-256 coin to mine right now is. Is there a site that shows all the SHA coins and where they stand probability wise? I've found a couple sites that kinda do, but all it does is make me more confused.

Hell, is Battle coin worth mining?

At this point, my graphics card sucks, so scrypt mining isn't much of an option.
678  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Best sites for mining gear / in stock / quick delivery? on: February 24, 2014, 05:23:24 AM
I am also curios about this word "furyminers" - what does that mean? Can anyone tell? Thanks in advance
furyminers?

Red Fury Miners that you can plug into a usb port to mine for coin.  I believe it's only for SHA-256 coins.

They hash at around 2.2 to 2.7 gh/s and do not use up very much power, 2.5 watts each.  Best way to use them is with a powered USB hub.

679  Other / Off-topic / Re: Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics Thread on: February 24, 2014, 04:08:37 AM
Wow can't believe Olympics are over already. So short. Canada-Sweden game was good although the Canadians dismantled everyone. I'm happy that my home country got #1 in medals, would be a bit awkward if we didn't considering we're the host.

Not sure if there are any Jimmy Kimmel fans in here, but he pranked the Olympics HARD!

Kate Hansen from the States gave him access to her twitter account and he posted this as her:

Wolf in my hall?!? #SochiProblems #SochiFail http://youtu.be/3qZA-xOeQmE

The media jumped all over it and freaked out.

The video was actually taken on a sound stage where Kimmel is shot. They recreated the Olympic hallway.

Heres the video from Kimmel, LOL!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hze_6-f5KNA

What a stupid ass video that's not even funny.

It's funny that so many people actually bought it.  Actually, its funny and sad all at the same time.  The internet is turning many people into idiots.  They see something on the net and take it at face value without asking questions.  Some of what people believe because it's posted on the net is actually scary and could potentially endanger their lives.

Remember people, don't believe everything you see on the internet, thats how WWII got started.
