661  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A New Competitor for Bitcoin on: April 16, 2015, 07:57:22 AM
My problem with it is that humans need to trust other humans in a manual manner (If I understood correctly).
That's just not as elegant as other consensus mechanisms where the protocoll does that for you.
Same problem with DPOS where people have to vote for delegates.

If you want fast adoption then everything needs to be as easy as possible. You can't bother avg people with voting or "trusting". They wanna use the system and that's it. The security should "just happen".

Having had only 1 comment while being terribly suspicious doesn't make somebody a sock puppet. Innocent until proven guilty.

You would think that would be the case.

I recently found out I was on the very last sockpuppet list, not from pm, but from finding my stake account empty after the launch, which I'm still patently waiting for an explanation from makoto1337 as to why!

Bith IP and browser-fingerprint where used to group people. Noone got put on the sock puppet list for not being active. This has been stated dozens of times.
Activity was only used to CLEAR people. I.e. if you were very active or at least logged in recently (and very is really relative here, i think it was like 50 posts or so - not that active) you were cleared.

@yshin365new : could please register at https://forum.ournem.com we usually analyze problems there (we got a subforum for technical discussions there). Here at btt we only have one thread and we shouldn't use it for technical stuff.

It's also much easier for other people with the same problem to find the solution there. Burried in this thread that's almost impossible.

When will the sock-puppet list reviewed?
I was put on it, but i am not a sock puppet.

I believe this is ongoing. Have you messaged patmast3r or makoto?

Plz msg both of us (makoto1337 and patmast3r)

Hi,
what are the benefits of the Delegated Harvesting instead of local harvesting?

You can harvest from an empty account. So basically you delegate your importance to the remote account (which every account has).
That way you can also harvest on a remote location without having to put your private-key there (you use the private key of the remote account which has no funds).

many thanks!

so, Delegated Harvesting, is a lot more safe than local harvesting... great Cheesy

you can use delegated harvesting on your local NIS as well.

Well I didn't see this coming.  I thought XEM had promise but this downward slide since launch is disconcerting.  I expected an initial dump but also expected a correction upward that hasn't happened.  There doesn't appear to be any kind of game plan.  Those behind this coin need to get out front and center now to rally the troops.  I'm not selling my stakes but I hate to take a loss and add another blemish to my almost spotless track record of picking coins.  And I'm getting that uneasy feeling that you get when something doesn't feel right.  So is there a plan for this coin and if so what is it?

I have a buy order at 61 on Poloniex. Care to fill it for me?

As for your questions, I don't know where you've been but if anything, NEM errs on the side of overplanning and overtesting and overthinking and overdeveloping and even, overinventing. It's actually kind of funny that you are saying "there doesn't appear to be any kind of game plan." I don't think I've run into a coin with MORE game plan since DNotes.

Are you serious?  The value plunges and you come back with an offer to buy at 1/3rd of the price when the coin launched.  Why would you even make such an absurd post.  There are many people that are wondering what the fuck is going on.  I'll take a loss and not miss a step.  Some won't be lucky enough to have the cushion to write it off.  This is crypto, months don't work.  Where have you been?  Amazing.

Show me a single project that did not have a lower value than at launch 3 weeks after launch.
And factor in that a lot more people have been given coins initially so initial dumping will take longer as many don't check btt regularly.

Hi guyz, I've downloaded & installed Java8 x64 on win 8.1
Also windows nem installer from here: http://bob.nem.ninja/installer/ (installed)
But when I run the wallet, it doesn't start. What should I do?
wallet starts to work then it's killed.
here's a vid: https://vid.me/riLS
How can that be possible? How to avoid this?

I had the same problem. Fixed it like this;

Go to; http://bob.nem.ninja/

Download nis-ncc-0.6.26.zip
Unzip

Start runNCC.bat (wait a moment until it has started properly)
After waiting;
Start runNIS.bat (wait a moment until it has started properly)
After waiting;
runMON.bat

This will start a browser with the NEM wallet.

At step Start runNCC.bat or Start runNIS.bat a pop-up will appear asking you for 'Allow connection'.

Ps. This is a one-time process. After that you can start the wallet like you try to do now.

Are you also on Win 8.1 Fatih ?

I do not understand why no one does anything. a few months ago the devs were´much more present on Forum then now!

it seems as if even the devs lost interest. from the "over 70 team members" we see nothing here

that's because btt is a toxic dump and everone is using other channels. Most really active people are on telegram.

Link to this "telegram"?

...

3) That being said, it did take way too long to get here (way, way too long - more on this in 5) ) and have to agree that what we have right now is something that, to the casual end user, doesn't amount to something that feels much different than NXT and other altcoins. Even the transaction speed is kind of underwhelming. I mean, what is it that NEM can do now for the casual user than any other coin can't do? It does beg the question of how much of what we've gotten was worth the long wait. I mean, 70 devs were involved? Really?

I think the client is great.
I think harvesting is a much more satisfiying experience than forging in other coins because even people with lower importance do forge.
I don't know what you mean about the tx spead. Blocktimes are way more consistent than other crytos.

Overall though launch was just the first milestone. It was clear at least to me that at launch NEM would not be much better than other platforms. That takes time.

...

5) I think one of the big issue facing this and a lot of other coins is that it's apparently really tough to code new features into cryptocoins -- either that or devs that code quickly in C++/Java in this space are few and far between - if that's the case - and I'm not sure whether it is or not - maybe it's because the financial rewards aren't large enough compared to what they could be getting elsewhere, or C++/Java are just tough to code period, or all of the above). It just seems to take a very long time to introduce or test even the smallest new changes on this coin and most other coins from what I've seen. I think this also factors into the delay in getting this on other alt exchanges (not that there are many left anyway these days after Poloniex, Bittrex and Cryptsy).

Agreed. There is good reason for this though. If any platform is to be reliable it needs to be developed carefully and well tested. That takes time but it's time well spent.
However even the most basic feature i.e. payment hasn't been adopted by a significant amount of people yet so that's where I'd focus on.
Everyone is eager to see new features but that's worthless if noone is using them.

Hi,

I have just installed the last client from 0.5.13 to 0.6.26 and I can't access the wallet anymore.

The wallet is found, the password is good but I have :

ERROR 128
The address provided is not valid.

Need help !

You're trying to jump from a test version to a live version. That's not going to work. You need to create a new wallet.

That post earns you a special spot on my ignorelist.

ah ok so the guy has written 15(!) very polite posts, been lead around the barn by the nose, and for documening this you decide to be offended?

so he even apologizes and explains that he is desparate for being ignored, and all you can come up with is some more arrogance?

This looks mighty haughty to me.

I wasn't offended and I told him this via pm. I simply don't like to read posts that take up 2 entire pages because someone feels the need to post his entire inbox.

Before update; Delegated Harvesting was active.

After update; Still active it says, but there is also a button "Start delegated harvesting". When I click on that; ERROR 699
Maximum number of harvesters allowed on server has been reached.

Solution: Should I choose another Node? How can I choose one?

Sounds like a bug in the gui. Delegated harvesting is most likely still active and if the NIS your harvesting on is running you'll harvest blocks.
677  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread -100% Original Codebase - Over 70 Team Members on: April 09, 2015, 06:21:00 AM

They mentioned test-driven development. I'm curious why it didn't work against that "/shutdown" bug.

I don't think NEM was developed test-driven. The devs wrote a fuckload of unit-tests but not before the implementation of the functionality.
Could be wrong.

Crypti released DPOS. Maybe you can be "helpfull" there ?

Thanks for posting it !

Did I say the price rise would be slow ? After that last newsletter......might be a bit faster than I thought.

I think the times where positive news had a great impact on value are over. Only demand can increase the price significantly especially long-term.
Maybe we can get some demand via coingateway Wink

0.01 btc bounty to whoever will help me get this shit working without just sending me to official guide or w/e

It's not that hard. The only other person I know who had trouble like this was JL777.

Its not that hard, but i still have no idea what was the problem.

I gave up trying and just moved the client to the another pc and it worked there.

So whatever the problem was, it could very well happen to someone else in the future. And as i've said before - the whole thing is about 10x more user unfriendly compared to btc or other alts.

Sure you can just label anyone who had/have problems with it retarded and lazy, but its probably not the most optimal approach.
we have barely launched a week... you may be right.. but you need to take into consideration how stable the network is AT launch compared to the vast majority of alts at their launch. stable and secure network is more important than an easy to use client.. no point it being so easy to use a 5 year old could use if its not secure and the network is hanging together by a thread..

I think NEM has easily the most user friendly client I've encountered in crypto. Very easy to install (at least as a standalone) and the user interface hasn't got too many buttons to try. Everything simply just works, and in addition looks neat too. It clearly is a product that could be very well used by the ordinary people already.

From what I can gather the installer works well too. It's just MAC users that seem to have problems. That's what happens when none of the devs have a MAC Grin

For me the the experience with installer vs Webstart was like day and night. The only downside is that there is no auto-update right now (Webstart did that for you).
