661  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: if you are just investing in Bitcoin now, you're an early adopter or innovator on: June 04, 2017, 08:11:36 AM
I agree with OP.

My friends said that bitcoin was dead about a year ago because he said that if it was something that was going to succeed in the long term - it should already be adopted by a lot of people. I think that this sort of skepticism is held common by a lot of people, making them afraid to invest in bitcoin or simply not bothered to check bitcoin out.

If you believe in bitcoin, and therefore hold at least some BTC, then you are already more open-minded than 99.9% of earthlings.
662  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if in future btc transactions will only confirm via an accelerator? on: June 04, 2017, 06:49:24 AM
again you pay the fee in your transaction, if it is 0.01BTC fee then you pay it with the transaction and if one miner rejects it then another will pick it up and mine it for the reward.
and if someday fees grow that high, for example $25 for a simple small transaction then people will just stop using bitcoin and the backlog will clear and fees come down because there no longer will be any competition.

and if miners continue being malicious in your scenario we can always fork to a new algorithm that prevents them from doing such things.
i am not an expert in this matter but you can check out the POW change proposal. that can work in a situation like what you are describing.

Thanks for the response.

Maybe i'm just overworrying things because right now i cant really use bitcoin anymore without having to try to get a spot in Viabtc(very unlikely) or pay for a transaction accelerator. And I can't control the fees all the time because others are sending to me.

Hopefully this can be sorted out in the near future... Fees are way too high.
663  Economy / Speculation / Re: Took just 3 months to double in price. Bubble!!!!! on: June 04, 2017, 06:45:27 AM
The price was average around $1,000 around February. The momentum seems to be only picking up. The bubble has a long way to go. Who thinks we will see $3k? $5k??

There were definitely a lot of hype and buzz about the price level. I think it is completely legitimate because we have already recovered from the correciton and the price seems steady, but with no further major bull market runs after that recovery.

I do think that we won't see anything under $2000 soon.

$3k is entirely possible but in my opinion that's not the natural price at least in the short term. $5k? Probably not until the next halving imo.
664  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Anyone used Bitfinex? Other recommendations-least intrusive/expensive? on: June 04, 2017, 06:22:05 AM
Jeevy Computers offers a service but charges a whopping 5% fee. Ouch.

I'm not sure I trust Coinbase. Some of their behavior is sketchy.

Just wondering what others' experiences are here.

I'm not ready to sell. I'm holding long, but when the time comes......?

And does everyone care whether or not you're employed at the time?

Why do you think that Coinbase is sketchy?

It's not very clear what you're trying to achieve here. Are you trying to find a site to sell when the time comes or am i reading your post wrong?

Coinbase is by far the most convenient way, IF you are able to verify yourself. They have probably the best rates as well. Bitfinex has experienced a hack and then liquidity problems, i wouldn't recommend using them because there are so many waits and stuff.

If you can't provide id, use localbitcoins/paxful but make sure you deal with someone with more than 500 trades at least.
665  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Advcash | a new "anonymous" bitcoin debit card [EUR & USD] on: June 04, 2017, 06:14:41 AM

I think it's better to use BTC-e codes to load your account with Bitcoin

How to buy these BTC-e codes via Bitcoins (balance Bitcoin Core) outside advcash?
Safely!!!

Go to BTC-e, open a new account, deposit your bitcoins, trade your bitcoins for USD on their trading platform, go to your account wallet and then go to the withdrawal section for bitcoin. You should see an option where it says withdraw to btc-e code. Simply select the amount you want to withdraw and a new code is generated for you.

Even with the new fees on advcash i don't think it's worth the trouble and the hassle to go to get btc-e codes first. No point in doing that when btc-e rates could be worse than the rates advcash is offering, and btc-e has its own fees.
666  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: My first day of trading on: June 04, 2017, 06:11:12 AM
A couple days ago I transfered enough from my bank account to buy 1 Bit coin.  While waiting for the $ to make it from the bank to the exchange I had $75.00 invested so could use it to practice with.  Keep in mind that I had no experience with bit coin trading and my past day trading did not go well.

Today I saw that SC (Siacoin) was above 10% and volume was above 10,000.  It was also very active pumping up and down.  I did four buy and sell trades, not aiming for much more than 5% profit on each one and increased my $75.00 to $91.00.  It was a great leaning experience.  Also very humbling because on the first trade I made a mistake and lucked out.

Scott

Congrats on executing your first trade. Just keep in mind whenever you are trading that trading is highly risky. It COULd be a good, sustainable long term income for an experienced trader with thousands of executed trades and knowledge, and it could lose all your money.

It's not wise to save up money and then putting all of it to trading. 20%, 30% max. Don't put all your savings into trading altcoins. Trust me, i've seen people go into debt even because they want to get even with a trade they're doing.

Good to see though that you're enjoying it.
667  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if in future btc transactions will only confirm via an accelerator? on: June 04, 2017, 06:03:24 AM
the transaction fee is the fee you are paying the pool to mine your transaction!

when you pay lower fee (like zero fee to 50 satoshi per byte) you get stuck and need to seek alternative methods like paying the additional (300 satoshi per byte) to the pool so they can mine your transaction. if you pay the higher fee in first place you won't have to pay anything else.

and the solution is scaling! and it will happen sooner or later, there is no escaping it. the miners can delay the inevitable but eventually something will be forced on them.

I understand this. But what if the miners decide to just not confirm any transactions outside of the transactions that people pay them for BEFORE they even mine a block? Do you get what i'm saying here?

Basically, a way more extreme situation than the one we're currently in. Right now you can pay a 0.001 BTC fee on your average sized transaction and get it confirmed in the first block. But what if in future, even if you pay 0.01 BTC for it, it won't confirm without an accelerator? Undecided
668  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What if in future btc transactions will only confirm via an accelerator? on: June 04, 2017, 05:52:20 AM
Namely, no matter how much you pay originally in your bitcoin transaction fees, you have to still go to a pool to confirm your transaction and pay a fee for it. We can see this sort of happening. Fee used to be 0.0001 BTC but now if you pay even 200 sats/byte it's not guaranteed to confirm in the first 6 blocks.

So what if in future confirmations will only be given if you pay a fee to a certain pool ahead of them even mining the block?

Will this result in the centralisation of bitcoin? How can we mitigate this???
669  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 7 years ago... you could have earned almost $15,000 at today's value in 3 sec... on: June 04, 2017, 05:41:49 AM
Funny how life is Smiley 5 BTC for free in 3 sec... today people are working hard to earn 0.01 BTC

https://web.archive.org/web/20100703032414/http://freebitcoins.appspot.com/

Batk then people didn't even know about bitcoin let alone having to waste 3 seconds of their precious life for 5 worthless pieces of virtual crap that nobody uses anyways? No thanks.

This is why you keep your minds open-minded. Don't focus on the old stuff. Look into the future.

Sometimes you don't even need to invest anything to it, just a few seconds and you might be rich.

Wish that faucet was still open. Lol
670  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are You Holding On To Your Bitcoin? on: June 03, 2017, 10:52:46 AM
I'm basically hedging my bets by selling a large portion of my coins for fiat and other investments whilst still holding a portion of my bitcoin position so that when another pump happens or comes by I'm not caught off guard without any coin that I can dump quickly.

I believe that diversification is the key to investment success. If you don't diversify then you are going to be prone to wild markets, etc. Simply saying hold hold hold isnt wise. Bitcoin isnt guaranteed to go up. It always seems like it's going up when it's a bull market, and always seems to be going down in a bear market. This is trading.
671  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Advcash | a new "anonymous" bitcoin debit card [EUR & USD] on: June 02, 2017, 08:25:02 PM
Any idea as to whether they are operating on a fractional reserve system or a full reserve system? I tried this payment processor out and enjoyed it very much. Clean interface and no fees to transfer between users which is a rarity with irreversible payment methods. Even perfect money has .5% fees for verified users and around 2% for non verified users.

Still though I've heard people say that this company is lacking liquidity and whatnot. So thus I'm asking this question.
672  Economy / Services / Re: Got scammed? Get your money back! Deanonymizer service. on: June 02, 2017, 08:11:42 PM
The thing is that even if you get the true ID of someone, there is usually nothing that you can do to catch that person. They may be overseas, laws may be different in their country etc. Your travel costs would be probably more than the amount scammed, and to track the person down is a completely different story.

Therefore, Do you offer any sort of guarantees where if the scammed amount is not recovered, no fee is paid to you?

Thanks for your time
673  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Do you think ISIS uses Bitcoin? on: June 02, 2017, 09:19:40 AM
It seems logical for a global group like them to use btc, yes.

It's not really in our interests to even care though whether or not they do use bitcoin to fund their terrorist attacks. Nothing we can do about it. It's like the drug dealers using bitcoin, there is really no way that anyone can simply ban them from using bitcoin.

They could be using cash more than btc, precious metals, collectibles to finance their activities for all we know. As I said it isn't really a valid worry at all.
674  Economy / Services / Re: Debt collector from Bitcoin loans. on: June 02, 2017, 08:59:37 AM
I really don't get why if someone explains their method of sent collection to you they won't be able to work with you. Are you afraid that people are going to use illegal methods etc to be able to collect info on the person in question?

Potentially interested, do you have debt that is outstanding right now or only preparing for the future?
675  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Selling paypal funds for BTC, PM, WMZ on: June 02, 2017, 08:48:18 AM
Most likely a scam. You can never tell whether someone is going to chargeback or not until they do.

And the 180 days isn't a safe period either - if they used a stolen credit card to obtain the paypal funds/the paypal account is stolen in the first place, then a chargeback may be done after 180 days.

Stay away from trading with a member with 0 trust.
676  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Gloryninja and mytaptech on: May 31, 2017, 09:36:57 PM
So are you saying that loan scamming for a measly $20 is some sort of professional behaviour? You are one delusional bastard.

If you plagiarized the content why should he pay you? You deserve zero. ZERO. I think that gloryninja, you should just post the articles he wrote and demonstrate to us where it was plagiarized, so this idiot can shut up.

And you still owe me .01 from over 2 weeks ago.
677  Economy / Speculation / Re: the biggest Forex broker in the world is adding bitcoin, and it is in Japan on: May 31, 2017, 10:01:33 AM
First of all i never knew that a Japanese forex broker was the number one forex broker in the world. But this is obviously extremely positive news for bitcoin as Japan has recently just legalised bitcoin, and now that the number 1 broker in the world has started to accept btc as well it's just a cherry on top.

Other online brokers have already offered btc trading pairs for years and it's really popular as btc prices fluctuate a lot, and traders love that.

Decent news? Yeah definitely.
678  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Any way to have cheap transactions now? on: May 31, 2017, 09:36:29 AM
Due to the increased on-chain tx fees, typical fees has become 0.001-0.002 BTC.

However, poloniex is still able to provide 0.0001 fee withdrawals (which merge a lot of payments together, while having overall 400-500 sat/byte fee, resulting in 0-1 block delay confirmation)

My question is, are they any other (centralized) how wallets where I can keep small amount for daily usage (payments in the range of a few mBTCs)?

I know until recently xapo had free on-chain tx..but now their fees is also in the 0.0005-0.0009 BTC range, which is impractical for $2-5 payments.

The only option that I can think of right now is indeed poloniex. I remember thinking that they charged quite high withdrawal fees as you know coinbase, and other bitcoin exchanges processed withdrawals free of charge at the time.

However they are the only service still providing the original 0.0001 btc withdrawal fees, but you do have to be very careful as they might run on a fractional reserve and some day have liquidity issues.

Don't forget Mt Gox....
679  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA FINALS (Golden State Warriors vs Cleveland Cavaliers) on: May 30, 2017, 09:51:09 AM
For the 3rd consecutive year these teams are about to settle their score. I think it will be GSW this time.

It's amazing how some teams after 5, 6 years still never get into the playoffs even if they get a few high draft picks and others like Cavs and Warriors just keep prosperous and damn, 3 finals appearances consecutively for both teams. Not even saying what the result is right now but it's going to be a heck of a series. I personally think that the biggest player in the series is going to be Kyrie as he is just awesome to watch down the stretch, ball is always in his hands. If he can make these clutch shots then cavs have a big chance of winning this year.

I'm going for cavs in 6 or 7...
680  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: user to user betting on: May 30, 2017, 09:41:29 AM
any sites out and around that are popular?

Im looking to do micro betting on outcomes we can deem are guaranteed fair and not relying on knowing how to verify provably fair.

Fairlay is a good option. It's not p2p by itself but you are indeed matching up with other people who have different opinion than you. So I guess that's P2P in a sense. It's a betting exchange which means that you can set your own odds on an event but for the bet to be valid someone else has got to be able to match your bet. Betmoose runs a similar betting exchange, you can bet on anything from politics to sports p2p.

But if you're looking for pure luck, then go for what xypos said, bitcoinrush.io. Bitdouble recently also introduced p2p coin flips i think. But looking at it right now it seems like bit double bots are the only ones that are betting so i'm not sure whether it's against the house or pvp.
