6602  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Tax bitcoin as a whole or only capital gains once sold? on: August 29, 2014, 01:08:56 PM

For trading, it should be straight forward. You would have to pay capital gains only on your profit. That might be taxed at some concessional rate or may even be exempt from taxes, depending on your jurisdiction.

That's correct. But note that you must be able to provide evidence that you bought BTC at certain price etc, otherwise they can expect you to pay tax based on total value.
In case of any doubts, don't be afraid to ask relevant tax office, as there may still be some uncertainties in interpretation of tax rules.

okay that part i got but what about all the other stuff botany said? is he correct?

What he said makes sense, but I'm not an expert. If you want to get the proper advise, you should start with providing more details (where are you from? How many BTC have you mined, do you mine as continuous/commercial activity or was it just one-time only etc). Hopefully someone better informed will help you a bit more.

But again, if you're talking about significant amounts, seek for professional advice (or ask your tax authorities directly), never rely entirely on advise from forum.

Mining is different. In your example above, I don't think you should be paying tax on $490 of income and $40 for capital gains, because it is double taxation. Common sense tells me that you should pay income tax on $490, but that would again depend on which country you are in.

Agree, you pay either CG or Income Tax, not both. Although, if you mined 1 BTC and sold for $490, you should pay income/CG tax on that amount LESS electricity/mining hardware depreciation costs.

I've no idea whether you are liable for tax if you mined BTC and didn't sell them, if it's a significant amount, I'm guessing you'd be expected to declare them at current value.

And retirement at 19  ? Some young big lottery winners spent all millions in few years. I can imagine going back to regular life is very hard and frustrating for them Smiley

I've read somewhere that MOST of the big lottery winners go bankrupt eventually. For some people the huge money injection is the worst that could happen...
6605  Other / Off-topic / Re: Would you either No. 3 (better then the last one) on: August 29, 2014, 09:35:04 AM

Do the most Awesome/Good you can do that affects everyone's lives in a very positive way, but no one knows you did it and someone you hate gets all the
credit and they will never let you forget it.

Option 1. Easy choice. Not only you did something amazing, but you still remain anonymous (like Satoshi?). Usually only weak minded people crave for fame.
6606  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: RIP Hal Finney on: August 28, 2014, 08:47:54 PM
Sad news...

Being quite new to BTC didn't know Hal very well, but remembered this post:

RIP
6607  Economy / Services / Re: [DiceBitco.in] [Make the most out of your sig!] Make coins by simply posting! on: August 28, 2014, 04:12:24 PM
Will there be a minimum post count for Sep campaign (max is 200)?
What if the rank goes up during the month? Would you pay at higher rates for every post?
6608  Other / Off-topic / Re: Full, Member. Sr. Member and hero member account worth? on: August 28, 2014, 03:42:32 PM
So the question is simple how much are these account worth BTC?
Hero?
Sr?
and Full member?

They're worth as much as someone is willing to pay...

The price would strongly depend on available signature campaigns. Since primedice is not open to all anymore, the value probably went down (especially for full members and members).
6609  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bought another bitcoin... on: August 28, 2014, 11:55:29 AM
Western Union, really? There are tons of great exchanges and you select the most expensive way.
Don't have online banking

Are you UK based? Which bank are you in that doesn't have online banking?

Just curious, have the WU informed you why your transfer has been declined?

Yet to see an intellegent argument against Dogecoin here. All we can see here is some stupid people with pure hate for Dogecoin. If you can't see dogecoin is gonna have massive growth within 1 year, you guys are just dumb.  Grin

Any "intellegent argument" to support your prediction?  Smiley

If doge-dice gets alive again then it will survive, but without it, it is gonna be hard...

You can invest DOGE on prcdice.eu (you can switch between BTC and DOGE), also on dogeking.com
Obviously neither of those 2 is anywhere close to DogeDice in terms of size and popularity.

EDIT: If anyone knows any similar sites when you can invest DOGE please share
6612  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will there be a rally in September? on: August 27, 2014, 03:54:29 PM
Not a chance. Price has been stable for too long, it would take something really big to create a mega spike.
Even if Amazon/ebay would start accepting BTC, that would likely increase the price by ~20-30% rather than few hundred % (unless you could get a discount for using BTC).

Then again, it would only takes one big investor to drive the price up... You can't predict those things.

I don't expect to see any major spike until there are clear and stable regulations regarding BTC in US/EU.
6613  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Your dream political system on: August 26, 2014, 03:09:06 PM
Monarch is able to use democratic methods to optimize decision making processes, he can delegate some power to democratically elected institutions(...)It's still an absolute monarchy because monarch always has the power to dissolve any governmental body and able to interfere in its actions if he wishes.
Agree, but it works both ways, you can have monarch with the ultimate power (able to dissolve any gov body) and on the other hand you can have people with ultimate (voting) power to get rid of the monarch (ie every 4 years). Monarch can delegate his powers to democratically elected institutions, but people/dem. elected institutions can opt to delegate some of the power (temporarily) to one leader (ie in the event of war, when fast decision making is necessary). Therefore both, democracy and monarchy, should either be or not be in the poll.

In other words, I do see why you haven't listed democracy, but don't get why you've listed monarchy.
Why would anyone vote for "Absolute monarchy..." ("AM") if it can mean anything. You can have AM with free market economy or centrally controlled economy. You can have AM being a total tyranny with no free speech, ruled by 'iron fist', or you can have AM with most of the power delegated directly to the people (or local governments). You can have a wise monarch or mentally handicapped one (who inherited his powers). And so on...
The concept is just too general, two people voting for the same option can have two totally different things in minds.

I would agree with that, but we don't need all 200+ possible political systems because the most of them are dead for a long time. Anarchy is an interesting addition Smiley

I'd say that most of the possible political systems have never existed.
6614  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Your dream political system on: August 26, 2014, 01:29:12 PM

This poll is pointless. It's almost impossible to list every possible system, it's just too complex. But you should definitely add 'Anarchy' option to it  Smiley

Why the fuck haven't you put Direct Democracy or City States in the poll?
It doesn't make a sense because "democracy" or "city state" aren't the political systems. Direct or representative democracy is nothing more than a tool, which could be used in any political system, even in absolute monarchy... Municipal bodies of the Saudi Arabia are democratically elected, for example.

How come you say 'democracy' isn't a political system but 'monarchy' is? Both of them only define who holds the ultimate power. In (ideal) democracy - it's the people, in monarchy - it's the monarch.
Yes, the monarch could be democratically elected by the people, but if he's elected for a set period of time, than the people hold the power (making him just a representative), if he's elected indefinitely, then you no longer have democracy.

The direct democracy can be perceived as a flexible political system, without any philosophy/ideology/economical model set in stone, when people can make any kind of changes to suit their current needs.

Doge is on the loose, he is going for a run

I wonder how far it will run.

Should reach 40 sats then drop to a 'steady' 30ish*

*completely 'out of the ass' prediction
6616  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whats the best cloud mining site? on: August 26, 2014, 09:48:22 AM
Maybe not the best, but I use bit-miner.com . They've been around for a while, had no issues with payments.
They sell a shares in mining assets, pay twice a month. You cannot sell your shares tho.

Sometimes they got really good prices per GHs
6617  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Looking for worker222 on: August 25, 2014, 08:42:13 PM
Hello.
My eBay account was hacked and someone stole server time for the BitCoin system.  I don't even understand what this is really.  But can anyone please help me learn how to find the person who hijacked my account?  Or help me figure out where to look?  I will pay a commission fee.
Here is the info the person gave to the server operator.
Pool: uk1.ghash.io:3333 Workername : etienne0815.worker222 Password: anything
does this identify a person?
Thank you kindly.

You're bit chaotic.
Do you mean that someone hacked into your ebay account and bought a bitcoin mining contract? How did they pay? Did they hack your paypal as well?

Have you reported it to police? If so, contact cex.io, they own ghash.io. There's always a chance that user 'etienne0815' submitted his personal info. Cex.io won't disclose such info to yourself, but they may share it with police (they're registered in UK, not sure which country are you from and what was the value of the purchase). Always worth a try.

Good luck

Edit:
It's interesting that in the list Bitstamp is registered in:
BITSTAMP LIMITED
5 JUPITER HOUSE CALLEVA PARK,
ALDER, BERKSHIRE, UK

Nothing strange about it. They're operating as UK company

6619  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What coin will surpass bitcoin? on: August 20, 2014, 09:26:50 PM
I think bitcoin will stay relevant for many years to come,
However I also think that we will see a new crypto coin surpass bitcoins market cap within 3 years.
Im am unsure of the coin, but it is obvious we live in a world that sees many fads, fade in and out.
Not to mention bitcoin is far from perfect, with other coins proving to provide a better system.
What do you think? What kind of "marketing" campaign is it going to take to surpass bitcoin?

Surpass in market cap? That's possible, in fact it already happened (well, sort of) I remember DOGE in its early days being 1st on coinmarketcap for a few hours or so, simply because someone bought small amounts at ridiculous price. Market cap is important indicator but can be very deceptive short-terms.

Ironically it's not really in any altcoin's or investor best interest to surpass bitcoin. Let's say that everybody jumps from bitcoin to other, better altcoin, and then jumps from that coin to yet another one that is even better, and so on... The crypto currencies market as a whole would lose any stability. No one would invest significant amount of $ in any coin knowing that it can become worthless overnight if a new 'currently best' coin is released. That's why bitcoin is still number one, despite all the faster, more secure, better features alts.

As someone said, bitcoin doesn't have to be perfect, all it needs is to be 'good enough'.
6620  Economy / Services / Re: Pocket Rockets Casino | Signature Advertising Campaign |Featuring Weekly Payouts on: August 19, 2014, 05:48:22 PM
payments will be done shortly as stated in OP
with weekly payouts I'm not available all the time but don't worry

also, everybody should've gotten a response via pm already

Never got a PM. Is this campaign still on, or should I just switch my signature to a more reliable campaign?

Lol This campaign ended over a week ago. See few posts above.

He wasn't meant to send PM to everyone, just to those who had any enquiries.
