6621  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Taproot proposal on: November 03, 2021, 03:38:18 PM
I know we are looking for exact block height for taproot activation not so much for exact time, but I see different predictions on taproot.watch website saying that we have eleven more days left.
Nicehash also released webpage for Taproot fork countdown that is scheduled to happen in less than ten days, somewhere around November 13th.
What would you say is more correct from this two predictions or is there even something better?
6622  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Not your vault, not your money. Why some nation-states will HODL Bitcoin. on: November 03, 2021, 02:51:51 PM
The Taliban will never EVER see that money again. If only there was a robust, self-sovereign, censorship-resistant currency that an entity can actually HODL in their own actual custody, without any counterparty trust. Cool
Reports showed that United States army left talibans billions of dollars worth military and other equipment, over 200 aircrafts, 45 helicopters, over 75,000 vehicles, drones, rifles, bombs and who knows what else.
That is more than many countries have combined, and list is much longer, that makes you wonder why they really did such thing and not destroying it if they couldn't bring it back.
Regarding Bitcoin, I would not count on any government (legal or illegal) to hold Bitcoin for me, and if someone really want they could track and try to blacklist their bitcoins for any trading, and CZ can't washtrade anymore.
I think that citizens should should be responsible for their Bitcoin individually, not some institution.
6623  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Air Gapped on Windows or Tails? on: November 03, 2021, 02:12:17 PM
Regarding the part where you mentioned vulnerabilities in software on Windows. Are there no similar cases to the ones you mentioned on Linux? I don't use Linux, so I really don't know. But the fact that something is open-source doesn't make it safer and more secure.
Fact is that Linux is 100% more secure than windows, that is why all servers and important information is kept on Linux operated systems not on windows, and all security experts recommend Linux.
Open source software is much more safe because anyone can inspect the code and propose bug while, while microsoft bug fixes are just creating more problems and only closed groups of people work on it.
Best things in the world are open source like Bitcoin code, or internet browsers we use every day, and closed source means you are hiding something from public for whatever the reason is.
One more plus for using and donating to open source is that you are directly supporting developers and not big tech corporations.

BitLocker will do it, but it is only available on Professional or Enterprise editions, which most people do not have. So you are left either trying to set up your own system which is likely to beyond the capabilities of many users, or not encrypting the whole disk but only encrypting your wallet files.
Bitlocker is closed source software and Microsoft with government agencies probably have backdoors for that encryption.
It's also trivial to bypass log-in in windows or access any files you want, so I won't encrypt anything important with that.

If you want to make the jump from Windows, then try out Linux Mint. It is designed to be as similar to Windows as possible to make the transition almost seamless. You can even boot it from a USB just to play around with it, or set up a dual boot so you can you always fall back on Windows if you need to.
There are some Linux OS that looks and feels even more like windows (Zorin OS) or like mac (Elementary OS), and best thing is to check website called Distrowatch to see most popular Linux OS.
One more interesting Windowsfx 11 Linux OS:

6624  Economy / Economics / Re: [Coinbase] Bitcoin Collateral = FIAT Loans on: November 03, 2021, 01:28:33 PM
I think that Coinbase could face some problems with regulators in near future after they started offering fiat loans, but there is a saying not risk no gains.
People can borrow up to $1,000,000 but I think they are giving up the custody of their Bitcoin to get some inflationary fiat that is on the verge of hyperinflation.
I understand that some people want to earn more money holding Bitcoin, but giving some company custody over Bitcoin is not acceptable for me.

The Bitcoin you use as collateral remains safely held by Coinbase.

6625  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: BitBox 02 -- Has anyone here actually used it? on: November 03, 2021, 09:33:28 AM
You mean like this
Exactly like that, but I have to admit it could be tempting at first to just remove the foil  Cheesy
Other way for protection would be to buy some small bags that will protect wallet from any damage, I even think they sell some specialized leather cases for hardware wallets.
Trezor sells silicone protection cases but I think there is a hole for screen in them, so it makes no sense to use it for screen protection.
6626  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Exchanges with no KYC Policy on: November 03, 2021, 09:12:57 AM
What are some other exchanges/platform which allow trading without KYC?
Best exchanges that don't ask for KYC are decentralized like Bisq, but you can can find many others on kycnot.me website.
Some of them that are not on list is Okex, Poloniex and I heard about one called Mandala that is using Binance liquidity and has similar interface.
However, I would be careful using any centralized exchanges that can ask your for KYC at any time, even if it is not mandatory by default with some limitations.
6627  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the effects of the G20 Summit on the Crypto Ecosystem on: November 02, 2021, 04:15:51 PM
Did anyone noticed that G20 also announced war on cash?
That means they are getting ready for their centralized digital fiat currencies they could control even more than now, charge taxes whenever they want, and ban your accounts if you are not good little boy or girl.
Bitcoin could have a chance here but I am afraid that most of the people are not able to think clearly and they still trust their governments... big mistake.

How will this affect crypto mining, are miners going green after this or we might change our mining methodologies?
I wouldn't be surprised if some countries ban mining ang go crazy road like China, while others may introduce some extra taxes.
Some research also showed that Bitcoin mining is already more renewable than before, and we don't have China anymore.
6628  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Selling items for 0.0004 Bitcoin. on: November 02, 2021, 04:08:34 PM
I want to list a number of items for sale at a fixed price of 0.0004 Bitcoin. Do you think that in view of the current high price of Bitcoin, it is worth doing this over the regular blockchain, or should I open a lightning account?
Why don't you use both regular Bitcoin and Lightning Network and provide more choice for people?
Transaction fees in previous period was very low and it was easy to use 1 sat/vB paying minimal fees, but we can't expect to have that always.
Lightning Network could be a good alternative when mempool is full, but I think that LN can still be complicated for some people unless they use some custodial wallets.
6629  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger nano X discount on: November 02, 2021, 01:12:15 PM
I think that's a bit exaggerated. They messed up big time with the database leakages, but they aren't the first nor the last company that will have their site/database hacked. Future events can't be predicted based on what happened in the past.
That is my own opinion, history often times repeats itself and I don't see anything good in their recent amateurish behavior with faulty batteries and bad updates.
If you want I am willing to make a public bet with you (in Bitcoin) that more information will be leaked from them in 2022 or 2023 by ''accident'' or some ''cyber attack hack''.
You can't run a serious company like a village circus and expect any security for customer information.

I have had the Nano S for years and have never experienced the firmware breaking anything.
It is breaking many things if you are using any shitcoins, and I have ledger reddit to confirm that.
Do your own research and don't trust my words.
6630  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: [VELIKA LISTA] Hardverski novčanici (80+) on: November 02, 2021, 01:05:25 PM
Podržane kriptovalute: BTC, ETH, BCH, UNI, USDT, LTC, DASH, ZEC...

6631  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: November 02, 2021, 12:12:49 PM
I swear, 1984 is here, but it's not the government that's completely playing the big brother role.  I'd say corporations are filling that one nicely.
Yeah governments and politicians are just parasitic puppets controlled by big corporations and people behind them.
If anyone thinks that Twitter and other social media is any better, think again because I just saw that Luke Dashjr is most recent ban on twitter, and I don't event know the reason why.
For anyone who don't know Luke Dashjr is Bitcoin core developer contributing Bitcoin since 2011.

Ridiculous. I didn't think I could hate Google more before this.
Ignoring and not using their services is much better option than hating.
Decentralized alternative for youtube would be great to have but I don't think most people is ready to give up their google addiction.
6632  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I have 500 lost Bitcoin - need help on: November 02, 2021, 11:25:49 AM
The problem is that I do not remember what my password was to the site where I deposited the bitcoins and also do not remember what the password of the email
If there is anyone here who understands computers I would be happy to help me.
Whoever helps me will receive 200 bitcoins from me ($ 12 million)
You didn't say what website exactly you used for depositing bitcoin, but there is nothing anyone can do if that website is not alive anymore or if you don't have any private keys for that Bitcoin.

I have to say that after reading your forum post history I don't think you are telling truth, and you just wrote some sensational post maybe to get merits or some attention with trolling.
6633  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger nano X discount on: November 02, 2021, 10:52:27 AM
I think that Ledger is just a closed source honeypot so purchasing it online almost guarantees that your email, home address and all other private information will be ''leaked'' and exposed in future like it happened before.
Using PO boxes or alternative addresses for delivery might be a better option, or even better is using official local resellers like Pmalek suggested.
Good luck with ledger and be ready for their crappy firmware updates that break more stuff than they fix, especially for X version.
6634  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: BitBox 02 -- Has anyone here actually used it? on: November 02, 2021, 10:40:12 AM
which means if you carry it in your pocket it will scratch up fast. I hope they will fix this in the future, but unfortunately many wallets that have a larger screen, have this issue.
It might be a good idea to buy one of those cheap smartphone foil screen protectors and cut it down for the size of your hardware wallet, to protect screen from scratches.
Trezor wallet have some foil by default and I heard that some people never removed it and it works just fine for them Wink

What's quite interesting is the password entry. It's done by tapping the case on either side in specific locations. Compared to the BB01, where the password was entered via the GUI on the host computer, this is much better since you can't write a software that tries brute-forcing it and you can't key-log it either. It's also very hard to e.g. video record (or watch) someone enter the password and properly see what they're inputting, compared to e.g. a two-button input sequence that may be spotted from a distance.
This is much better than what Trezor is doing, so it's a big improvement especially if we know that BitBox02 is basically forked and improved version of Trezor wallet with secure element.
Oh and Bitbox is much stronger than it looks, did you see this demolishing/destroying video?  Cheesy

6635  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Air Gapped on Windows or Tails? on: November 01, 2021, 01:37:44 PM
How could they spy on you if it's air gapped? You're supposed to never connect the internet.
I was not saying about airgapped but in general, and Win OS is collecting data and all your activity even if you are not connected to the internet, so anyone who get's access to your computer will have that data.
I would say that is a security risk if you are thinking about choosing OS to use with electrum in arigapped system.
6636  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: FortuneJack making 120,000 dollars disappear from my account! on: November 01, 2021, 01:27:09 PM
Those 4 bets are clearly not the same bet. "who will win the rest of the match" is not the same bet as "full time result". They just decided that there is no God and it's not worth it for them. But people are not stupid. And it will hurt them for sure.
Strictly speaking you are right, and even the odds are different so bets are not identical, but I think you should be honest and say that you wanted to game their system and rules Cheesy
6637  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTCpay Server: A Real e-Commerce Game Changer? on: November 01, 2021, 01:19:05 PM
Latest version of BTCPay Server comes with some really interesting updates, improvements and bug fixes.
They added support for Taproot, Lightning Address and LNURL protocol, dark/light theme switch and it is still open source available to everyone.
BTCPay Server is probably the best option we currently have to add Bitcoin payment processor and accept BTC payments for your business without any fees or third parties.

Note that version 1.3.1 is released just day after to fix some flickering and payment switching bug.

6638  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: FortuneJack making 120,000 dollars disappear from my account! on: November 01, 2021, 12:49:25 PM
Correspondingly, we as a company reserve the right to cancel several identical bets and consider only the first one active as well as valid
We can't see if the same user posted those bets (username is hidden 100%) but even if it is same user he used different amount of coins for betting so that can't be considered as identical bets.
One thing I don't understand is why you deleted and edited his betting history without any explanation, and I guess only reason for him doing this split betting would be to bypass your maximum payout limit per bet.

all actions mentioned above was strictly under official terms and conditions of FortuneJack
It's your terms and conditions and players agree with them when they sign up, but I think you are only pushing people to use mutliaccounts to bypass limitations you have.
What would happen if multiple players place the same bet like in this case?
6639  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Air Gapped on Windows or Tails? on: November 01, 2021, 12:20:52 PM
Airgapped on Windows or Tails?
Tails Linux OS is obviously better for privacy than windows and you won't have nightmare tracking and spying like with win os.
Airgapped option is great if you have computer that is not connected with network or internet, but Tails is not really meant to be used as permanent OS, more as a portable option without persistent storage.
Better option could be Qubes OS + Electrum maybe.
6640  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: New project ( need help ) It's a unique idea and a new concept on: November 01, 2021, 10:53:20 AM
OP actually posted his project's site after my reply or at least that's what I think it was, and then deleted it. I didn't get the chance to see what it was about though.
Oh it's just one more ''revolutionary'' token lost in Bitcoin Project Development section.
