6621  Other / Meta / Re: Finding quality posters from the Altcoin boards on: March 30, 2019, 10:55:35 PM
If this thread is going to have only good posts from alt board, i am willing to eat my cheeseburger if it goes pass 10 pages.
6622  Other / Meta / Re: Getting merits for talking about merits - let's just call it merit board? on: March 30, 2019, 10:50:54 PM
"if there's nothing good to merit, wait" don't merit something with 29 other meriters because it does nothing.

If it does nothing then why do you bother ? You talk about the orginal purpose of the forum, which merit is no part of, so why give it much thoughts if you think it is not important, let those who value it worry about it.

Yes there are tons of valuable information in this forum, but you can't force everybody to go look for them, some people prefer the content of meta , some exclusively post memes in the WO mega thread, why do you think that everyone has to think the way you do? Sorry nothing personal against you, i know you are a great tech guy and it is hard to find members at your level, not having received so much merit does not change that fact.

Also another thing regarding the great posts that go unmerited, there are a dozen of topics made just for that, yet only a few good posts are pointed out, i spend a good amount of time looking for those posts and i usually end up meriting half-good posts because i don't agree with Hodling merit, merit is not a certificate for "bitcoin experts " it was meant to stop spammers from ranking up and that is all about it.
6623  Other / Meta / Re: Getting merits for talking about merits - let's just call it merit board? on: March 30, 2019, 09:45:08 PM
I think the reason why those topics get a lot of merit is because they are special, almost every meta topic is about "accounts banned, spam accusation and why was a post deleted" .

So when I see some analayisis nicely presented i do tend to merit them, regardless of who made it, and this probably how most members think, maybe they get more merit than they should, but that wouldn't happen if there was a "competation" going on the forum.

If you have other "types" of posts that you think we should merit instead , please post away, show us some examples of what you think people are being unfair to.

6624  Economy / Reputation / Re: 50 merits for the most idiotic post on: March 30, 2019, 09:30:41 PM
And they still have newbie ranks!
That was during the old days when merit did not really matter, i think as time goes by people will start to understand the importance of "how" they spend their merit.
6625  Economy / Services / Re: [OPEN] BestMixer Signature Campaign | Sr. Members - Legendary | Up to 0.01225BTC on: March 30, 2019, 02:14:04 AM

That's how i do it as well, however DdmrDdmr's Merit dashboard is not always up to date, , AFAIK , he updates it every Friday, so it can be 6 days off.

so after having done whatever you suggest above , you need to check merit count on forum website then - whatever the total merit shows on DdmrDdmr's website , then add that number to total date-filtered result you got.
6626  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core - storing blockchain data on: March 30, 2019, 01:47:08 AM
I understand that the default setting in bitcoin core is that non-wallet transaction data is not stored on your harddrive in the blockchain data. My

as far as i know, if you are not running your node in pruned mode then you are actually downloading everything including non-wallet transaction to your hard disk, which is the default setting in bitcoin core  IIRC.
6627  Other / Meta / Re: we need more "child boards" in " Mining (Altcoins) on: March 30, 2019, 01:23:22 AM

makes sense, but this pretty much how the Altcoin mining section looks atm, it's a mixture of mining software / hardware and  support ,each could very likely make  +50% at any given time ( rotating )

Bitcoin mining has 5 child boards and all of them are pretty alive, the logic states the alt mining should have the same number of child boards at worst case scenario.

6629  Other / Meta / Re: Being able to comment on the merit given. on: March 30, 2019, 12:17:01 AM
if you think you need to "justify" why you merited a certain post, then you better not merit it in the first place. and sense there is no rules on what exactly should you merit someone for, there is no point of knowing what did someone merit a post for, as long as they are not sending the merit to their ALT.

but that's my sentence  Embarrassed

Heat evacuator through window for 12 asics

Category: Invention !
Section: Mining

might not seem like a good post at first glance, but his idea is amazing and can benefit home miners a lot.
6631  Other / Meta / Re: Zero To Hero in under 4 months. (My Merit Journey). on: March 29, 2019, 11:48:14 PM

skimmed through your posts, quality and content seem to be improving a lot, and so is your merit score, keep up the good work , you will eventually get there.
6632  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] Members who have a lot of earned sMerits on: March 29, 2019, 11:36:34 PM
guess i will never be on this list, i always empty my bag , i never understand the logic behind Hodling merit , IMO "today" is always the best time to send merit, the forum is full of shitposters, post quality is quite low, thus and we need to support even half-good posts to stand out of the spam crowed, many people eventually get discouraged and leave, this is why the forum is getting worse in terms of quality to shitpost ratio.

6634  Other / Meta / Re: TK808's Merit Source Application [ALT Disc, ANN, ANN Tokens, Services] on: March 29, 2019, 11:09:06 PM
It takes balls of steal to try and find good quality posts in ALT section, I trade ,miner , hold a lot of ALTs but i am rarely active there.

even the mining board which is "supposed" to be less spamy looks scary to me, i proposed to have more child boards there > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5096481.msg49198652#msg49198652 to organize the mess a bit , only then i will be able to chill around alts more often.

but as far as having to dig into all that spam and scam b.s, , it's easier to find a needle in a haystack, so i wish you luck ( you need it) and i support your application.
6635  Other / Meta / Re: Why not Make "Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules..." Official? on: March 29, 2019, 10:31:16 PM
The word "Unofficial" represents the "List" only, the rules are still "official" , that word also gives some "flexibility" since this is not an official organization and the list is not written by the forum admin/owner himself.

it also states that

Quote
NOTE: This is meant to serve as a reference/educational/informational thread, NOT a rock solid list of rules.

which means that mprep probably wants to tell you that  " There might be other unlisted rules out there , some of these rules might not be enforced all the time, and i should not be held responsible for any flaw/mistake in this unofficial list"

6636  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain introduces the Antminer S17 Pro, Antminer S17, and the Antminer T17 on: March 29, 2019, 10:15:59 PM
I have 20 s9's doing about 250th and around 22kwatts  set to medium and to low
if they were all s17 I could do  15 x 44 = 660th and around 24kwatts

yup but you know those 15*s17 would cost you something close to 25k if not more , with that amount you can get about 90 s9s brand new 1290th ( almost double the hashrate) of course this excludes electricity factor.

that's why it's different for everyone, for someone like me who has free but limited power it makes no sense to be paying a fortune for S17, not even S11 justifies the cost, but the math will be totally different for someone who pays 10 cents per kwh and planning to have 5 gears in the basement.

i think in a few years when btc market become pretty stable and these mining giants get very close to fully utilizing the chips, and
when a 5% improvements is spoken of for a month, only then it will make sense to stay as close to the latest gear as possible, as for now to me it's always about getting your investment back ASAP and not worry much about what could happen afterwards.

not sure how others make their mining plans, would love to hear thoughts.
6637  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC might do something nice soon. TA only ( No crystal Ball/s) on: March 29, 2019, 08:34:35 PM
bitcoin doesn't really react the way you want and charts suggest most of the time

If the above theory is true, one can simply trade against the charts and become a millionaire.

If most of the time price will go against what TA suggests , go ahead make a bot that trades against the odds , it is pretty simple. Roll Eyes

The crystal ball suggest that TA should not be taken as if its 100% accurate science, but whether it works or not  this is something i hate to discuss every single day, so if you do not do charts then you need a crystal ball to trade, if you don't have at least one of those two ,then you will always lose in the long run.
6638  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain introduces the Antminer S17 Pro, Antminer S17, and the Antminer T17 on: March 29, 2019, 08:25:11 PM
I strongly agree phill, i did make a rough estimation on how many s15 are out there based on coupons circulation, someone said it was way off and far from accurate, tho i dare anyone to show me say 500 s15 coupons , while there are hundreds of thousands of s9 coupons out there, i have yet to find a single chinese supplier with say 1000 s15 for sale, everything points out to the fact that all the 7nm gears from bitmain did not have any high sales value, be it a production issue or economical limitation , that is something i do not know.

Long story short, major farms have either left the game or still run profitable on old gears, the new gen miners are being sold in small quantities to people with super high power rate and very small scale business.
6639  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S9 Hashboard error: 2 boards=0 chip, 1 board=33 chips on: March 29, 2019, 07:13:07 PM
Or they could have gotten the answer, solved their problem , and never bothered saying thanks or leaving information for the next person, i always see this shit here, telegram, and FB. Only a few people would actually report back how was their problem solved even if they did it themselves.
6640  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain introduces the Antminer S17 Pro, Antminer S17, and the Antminer T17 on: March 29, 2019, 07:08:32 PM
Hmm, so If specs are true. S15 and T15 buyers are fucked up again. Huge different on same 7nm chip. I hope Bitmain will release some good firmware for S15/T15 which will increase performance.

Keyword there is "again" s17 buyers will have to face the sane story a few months later, it has always been this way, lucky mining btc is less risky than alts, look at z11 improvements over z9, or look at x11 asics, it is even worse.

I have come to realise that the best asic is the one the ROIs faster regardless of effiecny , new gens will always most likely always have a longer ROI period.

Having said that we are uncertain of how many gears they will have to sell at this current low btc prices, they are now totally out of stock of all btc miners , not sure if production is slowing down or they are just fucking around.
