6701  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What's your opinion on cambridge analytica facebook scandal? on: May 14, 2018, 02:26:51 PM

It’s actually very scary and I believe if you watch House of Cards, the corrupt Underwood used the same thing to win the election and now it’s been used here in the real world and it goes on to show how Facebook is really capable of which data from the website was used to win an election.

Scary as hell. And yes, good recommendation, in House of Cards you will be able to see how far it can get.
Since we are making recommendations for nice tv shows that can show this kind of reality, I will recommend:
- Black Mirror: a different approach in each chapter about how technology is messing humankind.
- Westworld: in a world with no consequence (as the internet), how the people can become the biggest s***t or the best person ever, there is no a middle point on it.
- The film ANON, in which we will be able to see how people who don't share everything in their lives are seen as "strangers" and "dangerous", for, of course, if you like to conserve your privacy is because you have something to hide (sarcasm).

I think those willing to use Facebook should, at least, get informed about the consequences. It is sad how all the people I know always share anything in their cyberlife as if it were more "real" than the real one. Maybe by watching some impressions in the shape of a film or a tv show they can understand how scary the situation is.
6702  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-05-14] 5 Arrested in $1 Million Bitcoin Strong Arm Robbery Conspiracy on: May 14, 2018, 02:15:37 PM
As it is said in the press article, there's no doubt on how important is to keep your keys really hidden.
Regarding the last question of the author, in my case, I always use an old computer to keep my wallet. The computer is most of the time offline and I never use it to search on google, be on the internet and much less, to watch a movie or stuff like that.
Printing your key is also recommended, under my point of view, but you can cut it in several parts and hide each one in different places, having always a key-piece with you.
Anyway, I'm far or having such an amount in BTC, but, even so, I always am careful.
This is the new kind of burglars we're going to hear about.
6703  Other / Meta / Re: 100 Days of Merit on: May 14, 2018, 02:04:58 PM

Even with the lack of merits to give I do still think that there is no need to add more merit-sources for now as we still need more time for the merit system to do its thing which is to reduce spam and create more sensible post.

Well, I have to disagree. We often forget about the local boards, in where there's a lack of Merit Sources, I'm afraid. Also, the decay in the merit distribution can discourage good posters to keep going with their amazing activity.
I think we need more Merit Sources, trustful ones (maybe the own mods) to encourage good posters to keep going. This is kind of unfair to make a real effort and can't rank up due to the lack of merits, either in your local board or in the English one.
The graphics are clear about that: the merit given-away are less and less every day, and even if it is based on the decreasing activity of farmers, the collateral damage is kind of dangerous, for it can discourage amazing posters to keep going.
6704  Other / Politics & Society / Re: China's feminism is abnormal, men and women are increasingly intolerant eachother on: May 14, 2018, 01:52:52 PM
When a movement becomes extreme, there will be always extremist.
There are many people against feminism nowadays, but let's explain what the term means: Feminism is a movement seeking equality:
- Same opportunities for both genders.
- Same responsibilities.
The same for both, in short.

Also, the Feminism is after the equality of men in the sense of feelings and such. I mean, many men are educated under the false image of men being unable to cry, to feel depressed, men are ordinary told to be strong to support a family and such. And this is unequal too, so the real Feminism is against that too.
But, of course, there are many extremist people, and they are giving the feminist movement a bad shape. Few beliefs women and superior to men, few believe men need to be under the power of women, but they are FEW.

The Feminist movement is seeking equality, never forget that. All around the world a new contra-movement has emerged against the feminism by talking about them as extremist. But they are just a few and this is unfair to talk erroneously about a whole movement by the acts of few.
6705  Other / Meta / Re: I can't keep track of the discussions I'm interested on: May 14, 2018, 01:11:37 PM
I use the watchlist, but if you don't like using that for whatever reasons you could just bookmark the threads you want to follow or keep a text document of the url and copy and paste it into your browser when you want too.

Although, the watchlist should be adequate for your needs.

Agree, this is kind of messy. The tool I use the most, to be honest, is "see the last posts of this person" in my own profile, so I can go back to the thread I replied, and check -out if there is any interesting debate on course.
The checklist maybe can result too general, you're right.
6706  Other / Meta / Re: Request: add bitcointalk.TO to [phishing] list on: May 13, 2018, 03:02:25 PM
Oh my god, i almost opened that thread yesterday, too sleepy to do that, and come back to pc this morning hoping to read it, but i found this thread instead. Maybe, yesterday, i will click to that link because news about satoshi is interesting and intriguing but thanks i didnt. This phishing case should be moderated fastly by moderator or admin, and automation on replacing the link to [phishing] is a great way to deal with this case. Just need a lot of database of phishing link so it will run perfectly.

Thanks LoyceV, you saved my life.

The site is still working, despite the links to it are closed by now:

Also, the scammer has won some dollars by creating this site, taking a look at the BTC address he/she posted on the fake site, the winnings are:

Fortunately, it doesn't seem a phishing site but a static copy in where you can only find this false thread, but you cannot modify in any sense the site, you cannot log in, so your Bitcointalk identity is secure.
I've tried to make a google search regarding the topic and it is not positioned, gladly, in fact, this is really difficult to find if you don't know with precision the name of the fake site.
Nevertheless, this piece of shit, this crap, this scammer, has won something with it, and at the cost of 9 people here...
6707  Other / Meta / Re: I can't keep track of the discussions I'm interested on: May 13, 2018, 02:45:21 PM
I ended up posting my many topics, but when I hit the "Show new replies to your posts" button it literally show every single post that I went to and it's not dead, a big list of which I need to lose minutes looking for and I feel severely discouraged, is there any idea to improve this list? Also, I'm 100% sure nobody really uses the "Show unread posts since last visit", since it will mostly show updated topics from the market list (that is normally the most updated for obvious reasons), I don't know if this came with Bitcoin forum template, but I believe there are better options in order to improve it.

You can configure your own watchlist in order to keep the track in those posts, boards, etc in which you are interested, and to clean-up your feed. This tool is in your profile user, and, to be honest, is useful, for, as you said, there is too much noise in the "unread post since your last visit" tool.
6708  Economy / Economics / Re: Overcoming inflation with cryptocurrencies on: May 12, 2018, 05:24:39 PM

There are few but functional pages where you can sell your BTC in Bsd (Bolivares). For example LocalBTC
e their wealth.

No, we do not use Petro, for the same reasons that you would not use it. However, the government wants to force the use of Petro in stores and franchises as a method of payment. But tell me, does it make sense that in a country where poverty is high and the levels of investment in technology are low, a cryptocurrency is used as a payment method?

I'm glad to hear LocalBitcoin actually works in there, for I've heard from some Venezuelan friends that it was somehow pursued by the government.
Regarding Petro, no one should use this scam, for the only goal in the creation of Petro seems to extortionate their own population, as well as earning more dirty money.

Anyway, I'm glad you made it, man. You're making such an example.
6709  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk vs marinecoin? on: May 12, 2018, 05:14:28 PM
Take over of bitcoin??? Are you out of your mind.
Bitcoin is the most popular or in one word KING in crypto currency world. Bitcoin the best crypto currency because bitcoin had successful became a trustworthy crypto currency. If you invest in crypto currency world then definitely the first currency you will think of is bitcoin. Not only this bitcoin has also expressed as a good currency which is now giving a competition with flat currency. Ethereum is also a good trust worthy currency but it's not above bitcoin. Bitcoin is the 1st and bitcoin is the biggest crypto currency which will dominate crypto currency world in future also.

Seriously man? Have you even read the thread?

Regarding the OP questions, well, if you try to sell this kind of crap, probably you will get banned, this is not surprising at all, also many megathreads are being deleted from the last month in order to clean-up the forum.
6710  Local / Esquina Libre / Re: Estadísticas del Foro - sMerit por Sección/Subsección on: May 12, 2018, 05:09:13 PM

6711  Other / Meta / Re: Merit network analysis: merit rank distribution and satellites on: May 12, 2018, 04:58:46 PM
These are very useful analyses, great job!

I am particularly interested in identifying people who should be made merit sources, or existing merit sources who should be given a higher monthly limit. When I originally created the system, I thought it'd be fairly easy to look through the stats and figure out who would make good sources, but it's been more difficult than I expected. Is there any additional data I can provide that would be useful?

Maybe mods in each section should be also merit sources. Local boards as the Spanish one are running out of merits, and there are many well-deserved topics, so maybe the Spanish mods should become merit sources as well as any local mod.
Given mods spend their time in searching for bad content, surely they usually find good as well, and if we trust them to moderate the evil, for sure they will be really efficient moderating the good stuff too.

To the OP, Amazing (and also beautiful) work!!! Thanks for that!
6712  Other / Off-topic / Re: Domestic violence on: May 12, 2018, 04:41:13 PM
Domestic violence has been on societies for centuries. But, fortunately, now the people are willing to see what is wrong with abuse. Since the last decade, women are beginning to talk about what are they suffering in many houses. It has, also, a cultural component, so in many places, it is still well-seen to behave as a dominator, for it means "being a man".
Nevertheless, men also suffer from domestic violence. For instance, due to the legislation in many countries, a man has to provide everything to his ex-wife, or if a man is accused of domestic violence, he will be guilty before innocent is proved.

Anyway, this is a new state of society. Women have suffered from violence (and still suffer) historically in many ways, and now they have a voice. I think the next step is to give voice to men suffering from the same too and seek for equal policies that provide both genders a legal basement. The domestic violence is a serious issue and too normal, I 'm afraid, and it can happen in many ways:
- Psychological abuse, for instance, is one of the most dangerous. There is a phenomenon known as "Gaslighting" based on the abuse of a person above another: the abuser convince the other person to be crazy and positioned him/herself as the only one able to understand and support the abused. So, they make the other completely dependent. It is really difficult to prove and the victim takes much time to realize the nature of the abuse (if he/she ever realizes what's going on). Of course, there are many other types of phycological abuse, but this one is truly interesting and also dangerous, of course. You can read more about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaslighting
https://www.theguardian.com/science/2017/mar/16/gaslighting-manipulation-reality-coping-mechanisms-trump
- Physical abuse is the most well-known and denounced one nowadays. It can be seen in a form of bruises in the skin, an, of course, is easier for people to believe the victim.

That's why the psychological abuse is one of the most dangerous, for it makes the victim even question his/her reality. Of course, it happens both to men and women.
6713  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The consequences of gambling on: May 12, 2018, 04:01:41 PM
...
My question is -
______________

Has gambling left a trace on you; if it has which consequences are you experiencing right now?

I have been in the gambling world for the last 4 years, making some money from poker freerolls, having some nice wins with sports bets, and even I hit x999 a couple of times on dice and some big multipliers on plinko.
I don't feel the Physical or the Psychic Consequences you mentioned. The only hard feelings I had were related the bettor's side, for I' ve seen people loosing millions of dollars in their bets.  That's why I started working for casinos and ended on the developers side.

I'm a gambler and it probably will not change, as neither my personality, I'm more focused now than ever and still trying to grow in this business step by step.
Even when I agree about gambling can have some physical and psychic related issues, it doesn' t happen to everybody. There are many people with previous issues, as anxiety, depression, and so, and maybe they join gambling in a search of something they lack. But they shouldn' t, of course, for gambling can make any mental illness get far worst. But not everybody will be sick due to their gambling activity. Nothing is black or white, there are millions of greys in between.
6714  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Facebook and blockchain on: May 12, 2018, 03:46:51 PM
I'm not surprised, to be honest, this is the new technology and it is normal for a platform as Facebook to make their own coin in order to be ahead in the current market.
Nevertheless, the banning was related to the spamming and suspicious of ICO's activities, they didn't ban the complete world, but the suspicious ads (please tell me if I'm wrong on this point, for I do not own a Facebook account-I despise the platform- and my point is based on what I've read only).

Will Facebook seek a behavior similar to Steemit? Will they have their own currency in order to buy services on their platform? It hasn't confirmed yet. The only point confirmed at the time is the new Blockchain research committee in the Facebook industry.
Besides, if they want to stay at the top, they will need soon to join the Blockchain technology, as Telegram has already done: they've sold up their ICO, the GRAMCOIN and obtained a lot of money already.
If Facebook wants to stay alive, it will be needed for it to join the cryptopath.
6715  Other / Meta / Re: Will the forum protect a member from threats ? on: May 12, 2018, 02:57:09 PM
This is a place in where you must move carefully. If you give your personal data to another member and then it goes wrong, that's your mistake only. Consider how many people move in here: thousands. So it will be impossible for the "authority" to care everyone.
Nevertheless, there are many topics related to how to be safe, either here or in any place on the internet. To never share your personal data with unknown ones is one of the golden rules.
6716  Local / Esquina Libre / Re: Estadísticas del Foro - sMerit por Sección/Subsección on: May 12, 2018, 01:37:47 PM

6717  Other / Meta / Re: Forum Word Clouds - Which words are most common in Topics on: May 11, 2018, 08:08:07 PM
Well, it is good to see that the Bitcoin forum still has Bitcoin as the main topic.
When I took the first look to your thread I was expecting "Merit" and "Scam" as the most used words, due to the rising of scamming accusations regarding merit, as it is happening at least on the meta board. I'm glad to see "Bitcoin" is still the center of the matter in here, as well as "Ethereum" in the Altcoin Section, instead of "Bounty", "ICO" or "Airdrop".

Nevertheless, the meta activity is still somehow concerning, for maybe the correct principal subject should be "Forum", as it probably used to be.
Once more, thanks for your work, great, as usual.
6718  Local / Esquina Libre / Re: Estadísticas del Foro - sMerit por Sección/Subsección on: May 11, 2018, 07:57:50 PM

Saludos.
6719  Local / Esquina Libre / Re: Estadísticas del Foro - sMerit por Sección/Subsección on: May 11, 2018, 06:32:14 PM
<...>

What's your opinion on cambridge analytica facebook scandal?

whom do you think has done the mistake and what's your review???

There's no mistake, from my point of view. Well, if it was a mistake, it will be to be discovered.
The Cambridge Analityca Scandal is just a proof of what had happened for years regarding the Facebook enterprise, though.  In my opinion, this is just the top of the iceberg, but, sadly, I don't think it is going to be a serious investigation. Just take a look at the Zuck's appearance in front of the Congress and the US Senate, look at the questions they made to him, as in a social reunion. It wasn't serious enough, it was just theatre.

The Cambridge Analytica scandal just put into the table something everybody already knew: Facebook surveillance and how the use of the platform can even change the way you think, But nobody cares, people still use the platform, still share anything they do and their relatives...
