I'll sell you 20, if you are willing to use btcrow.
6742  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin addresses FAST! on: July 04, 2011, 04:06:59 AM
Am I reading this right, that it generates 23k addresses per second?  And this particular address was found after 80,000?

Quote
Neither of the two parties offer "small government" in any real sense and military spending is evidence of that, but that doesn't mean that meddling in the housing market is not still unwise in ways that go beyond the (minor) direct effect on individual tax burdens.

So the government not meddling much at all in the largely deregulated housing and home loan market from 2000-2006 was a good thing?  Do you think deregulation of home loans, deregulation of mortgage backed securities, deregulation of collateralized debt obligations, and deregulation of credit default swaps are good things for the average American?  Do you work for Goldman Sachs by chance?
Offering incentives for banks to back risky loans on sub-prime borrowers (i.e. Fannie May and Freddie Mac were created with the purpose of backing these risky loans) was what got us in the whole housing mess to begin with.

So yes, I agree - the less government involved in the housing sector, the better.
6744  Economy / Goods / Re: Dirt 3 code - highest bidder on: July 04, 2011, 03:59:53 AM
i'm not.

im also selling a Dirt 3 code and a Uncharted 3 beta code also
Yes you are.  Someone before you bit 1BTC, two posts up, then you promptly bit .49000036.  You're bad at reading.
6745  Other / Politics & Society / Re: I am willing to argue public education has ruined this country... on: July 04, 2011, 03:58:19 AM
For once, I completely agree with you Atlas.  Public education is constantly being dumbed down to the worst students in the class.  It's actually becoming more difficult to fail than to pass.   Roll Eyes
6746  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you protect bitcoin from an Electro-Magnetic Pulse? on: July 04, 2011, 03:55:49 AM
Have you tried putting a CD on a microwave oven? Is that too far from an EMP?
Pretty sure that microwaves and EMP waves are completely different, but you could be right.
6747  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you protect bitcoin from an Electro-Magnetic Pulse? on: July 04, 2011, 12:42:18 AM
CD/DVD backup.  Make one.  That's about the only storage medium I can think of that would survive EMP.  Even a flashdrive would be toast - it doesn't have to be connected to the grid (or anything) with an EMP blast.
6748  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to I build repute? on: July 03, 2011, 10:26:33 PM
Use bitcoinfeedback.com.  Any time you make a transaction with someone, request that they leave you feedback there.

The OTC web of trust is nice for geeks who understand IRC though...
6749  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I'm an undeserving early adopter, and here is my side. on: July 03, 2011, 08:39:53 PM
If the pricing you bought your coins at was similar to the pricing of the infamous 10,000 coin pizza, 1000 euros would have bought you roughly 550,000 BTC.  Hello, $8.8 millionaire, good to meet you.  Wink

I don't think that anyone has 550k BTC, according to the following list the richest address is less than 300k BTC, but maybe one person has more than one of these addresses?
http://bitcoinreport.blogspot.com/2011/06/bitcoin-top-1000-rich-list-6th-june.html
Yeah, you can't rely on that at all.  Every wallet has at least 100 addresses, and some BTC can be stored on each of them.
6750  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Announce] getblockchain.com on: July 03, 2011, 08:36:38 PM
In my humble opinion you should mirror:
http://bitcoin.bluematt.me/bitcoin-nightly/blockchain-nightly/

It's from a trusted developer. Then people can verify md5 etc against his and if it becomes popular we won't overload his server.
I'll mirror it.  What's the best way to do so - just set up a nightly cron-job to download the latest?
6751  Economy / Goods / Re: Dirt 3 code - highest bidder on: July 03, 2011, 08:46:35 AM
You guys are bad at reading... just sayin'.
6752  Economy / Economics / Re: $50,000 Loans that Don't Have to be Repaid on: July 03, 2011, 07:19:30 AM
I don't remember signing anywhere that my neighbor's mortgage was my problem.
Yeah, and in return, your neighbor helps you when you're in trouble. As I said, I don't see the problem.

I think you're being intellectually dishonest in your use of the word "help", which implies a voluntary offer of assistance. My money being confiscated by government force to be redistributed to those deemed more needy is not an act of compassion, but tyranny. Lest you dismiss me as a would-be hypocrite were I the one in need, let me assure you that this not so.

I have been unemployed for many months after being downsized from a company that I was with for six years. I have not and will not apply for unemployment benefits because I don't believe that my misfortune entitles me to the fruit of others' labor. I am able to rely on myself because I made good financial decisions for myself, having zero debt, excellent credit, and a good amount of savings at the time that I lost my job. I also have friends and family that I could turn to for *voluntary* assistance if I needed to do so.

The welfare state will destroy individual initiative and make us slaves to the government.
This man needs a round of applause.  This is exactly what Americans SHOULD be.  Instead, the government has taught us that we don't need to be fiscally responsible.
6753  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Announce] getblockchain.com on: July 03, 2011, 06:59:51 AM
What about blockexplorer, or another trusted site md5-ing the blockchain after every block, saving that information on each block page, then the getblockchain.com site can say what block their download is updated to, and a user can download it and check the md5 against the blockchain md5 for the same block number.
6754  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How hard would it be to pitch a bitcoin investment on "Shark Tank"/"Dragons Den" on: July 03, 2011, 02:50:13 AM
How does one go about applying to be on the show?

Heck, even go on as a bitcoin mining company.  You still have a 600% ROI/yr at this point with mining.  Of course, it's not guaranteed, but it'd make for an interesting pitch to the sharks.
6755  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Announcing New Product - Bitcard, digital currency in the palm of your hand. on: July 02, 2011, 06:25:46 AM
It sure seems like it wouldn't be THAT hard to set up.

What are the requirements for becoming your own payment processor under an existing platform (i.e. visa/mastercard)?
6756  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BITCOIN vanity tag / license plate for your car on: July 02, 2011, 05:49:44 AM
Haha, that'd make you really suspect if they end up banning bitcoins in the US.  Tongue

My plates are $186 for a two-year renewal of my current vanity plates.  Not sure if that's high or low.  A lot of money for me right now though.
6757  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BITCOIN vanity tag / license plate for your car on: July 02, 2011, 05:43:31 AM
Ohhhh, I need to renew the plates on my car.... you're tempting me.  Cheesy
6758  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Announce] getblockchain.com on: July 02, 2011, 03:41:31 AM
Getting close to 1MB/s download speed, which is great!  Thanks for hosting this.
6759  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How is date/time determined? on: July 02, 2011, 03:28:24 AM
Guess that answers that question.  Thanks guys.  Smiley
6760  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How is date/time determined? on: July 02, 2011, 01:01:34 AM
Excellent dooglus, thanks.  I was hoping there was some sort of peer-averaging solution like that in place.

Next question:  Could a potential attack be launched on bitcoins that involves having the block-finder node connected only to certain nodes, and have the collective time of all of those nodes set to a rather obscure time period, either in the future or the past?  In other words, what happens if someone publishes a block with a timestamp of 3:00 PM 1/1/1970?  Is that going to screw anything up?
