6761  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hey bitcoiners if you are interested in the rebrand from Cobo to Keystone... on: September 18, 2021, 12:34:14 PM
Let's say you decide to transfer your seed from Cobo wallet to Keystone wallet. let's hypothetically assume that after a while you have lost funds from your Keystone wallet. Who will you blame Cobo or Keystone? Are you 100% sure that Keystone is to blame? To avoid such incomprehensible situations, it is better to transfer your funds from Cobo to Keystone.
No.
I am not a child, so I won't blame anyone if I am hypothetically so stupid to lose MY coins or MY seed phrase, but I guess other people may have a habit of blaming others for everything that happens to them.
6762  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Offline onboarding on latest Trezor suite update (21.9.2) on: September 18, 2021, 11:59:27 AM
What's the benefit of this improvement?
Well it's obvious really, you are not leaking your IP address and you are improving your security and privacy, but you don't have to worry about that because you are stuck with ledger ticking bomb  Cheesy
You can't really have airgapped Trezor but you can enable Tor switch in Trezor Suite later to hide your IP with transactions.
Trezor had many security issues in past and, but you can see bunch of them being fixed all the time:
https://trezor.io/security/

Before anything else, I do agree with both of you about the spying/privacy problem on windows and while you can limit it to a large extent [some parts require a workaround], it's not good enough and the only thing that's stopping me from making a switch, it's the compatibility issues with some of the apps.
Sure, if you need to use Adobe software like Photoshop and Illustrator than you are stuck with Windows or Mac, but if you are not pro you can always use alternative apps like Gimp and Inkscape.
Linux alternative apps are often times even better than original win aps, and last option is to use WINE or create dual boot with both Linux and Windows.

6763  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hey bitcoiners if you are interested in the rebrand from Cobo to Keystone... on: September 18, 2021, 11:33:45 AM
I wrote that Cobo and Keystone are completely different companies. And each of them must be responsible for its own generated seed.
They are not completely different, not long ago they worked together, and both devices are almost identical with few small changes.
There is no company here that is generating seed, only user can generate, import or transfer seed, and nobody can access it even if they want to do it because Keystone/Cobo is airgapped device.

Personally, I think that such wallets as Keystone and Ellipal are the most secure, although they are not very popular yet and must be present on the market.
Ellipal is not most secure device, it's really just a closed source mobile phone with android os, there is no multisig support and no basic coin control feature.
I would never use this device as my hardware wallet, especially with price they charge now $139.
6764  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: September 18, 2021, 10:43:54 AM
This was done through Exodus wallet, and when the exchange was taking to long I emailed them and they Pawn you off to "one of their API partners who does the actual exchange" Once I receive the funds back or not, I will then say the exact name and either thank them or Scam accuse them.
Exodus wallet have multiple centralized exchange partners but most notorious one they use is Changelly and they are often time asking for kyc.
Changelly have several scam accusations in forum, but you can never know what exchange Exodus really used.
I would recommend that you stop using Exodus wallet, it may look fine and flashy but it is closed source software and your IP address is recorder by their exchange partners.
6765  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [LIST] Bitcoin Seed Backup Tools on: September 18, 2021, 09:29:59 AM
I'd probably use a small tin can and screw it together, then put some 2 part epoxy on it, then glitter and other creative stuff. You'll have to break it to open it, and it will be obvious.
Just don't make it super-complicated and don't go crazy with epoxy that would make it impossible to open the can Cheesy
Maybe one more step would add extra complexity but I like the idea of using binary form for seed words, so that most people wouldn't even know what those dots really are.
https://github.com/jakob6102/seedcard

As I noted in my above post, you ultimately need to store all information required to access your coin, including any passphrase, and additional keys if using multisig. You can store this information in multiple places if you so choose.
Well you need to store everything in this world somewhere, and I would not count on my memory and brain to remember anything important.
You are obviously not going to keep all that in one place, passphrase should always be ins separate location, but what if you forgot where you put all those stuff?
Alzheimer's disease and other neurological disorders are getting more common, and our memory is getting worse and more full with age, that is the case with all hard drives  Wink

6766  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X Battery Pandemic on: September 18, 2021, 09:00:18 AM
Guys you need to see this epic disaster from ledger and proof they are lying about number of only 5% affected devices with battery issues.
Here is one reseller that has 210 ledger nano x wallets, and his customers returned him 22 devices as faulty battery, than he opened 12 boxes himself to test it and NONE of them was working, so calculate that percentage!
Ledger company blames distributor and vice versa, they are both just washing their hands and purchasing ledger at this point would be like you buy something on flea market, cat in a bag or snake oil surprise.
There are some speculation that cargo air and temperature could affect this devices, but I think that ledger should rebrand and choose a new name for their company - Circus hardware wallet  Cheesy

In addition to this, one guy reported that ledger is trying to change contact points from 2 to 3, but it's still not working... he received replacement and nano x is still not working...

6767  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Offline onboarding on latest Trezor suite update (21.9.2) on: September 17, 2021, 01:42:55 PM
I've updated both the Trezor Suite and the firmware on my Trezor device, but when I went to check the firmware version under the device tab, it still shows the previous one
I updated both Trezor suite and device firmware yesterday, it was probably one of the easiest updates I ever done without any issue whatsoever.
There was no more clicking of both buttons on wallet and I confirmed that both versions are updated correctly.

Out of curiosity, has anybody tried testing the Win10 version on the Windows 11 insider preview builds? The release date for Win11 is in less than a month and I still haven't seen any discussion on their forum about creating a native version for the upcoming windows.
I don't plan ever installing that spying nightmare on my computer, and I was reading reviews that it is getting worse, with some serious Explorer usability issues.
They are making it harder for users to change default apps, I am not sure if it's possible to disable automatic updates, and start menu is barely usable.
Linux OS is free, open source and you can customize it as you like, without additional spying features.
6768  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Statue in Hungary on: September 17, 2021, 12:33:34 PM
I wouldn't be surprised if Craig Wright came out and demanding for his name to be placed on that statue.
One more lawsuit coming soon and this time he may try suing entire country Hungary, but he can always make his own Faketoshi statue with bsv badge so that his cult worshippers can pray to that idol  Cheesy
6769  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BETA] BTC Mempool Fees Extension/add-on for Firefox/Chrome browser on: September 17, 2021, 12:22:59 PM
I can help you code this. You don't need to collect data from any website.
Bitmover are you still available and willing to help me with updating BTC Mempool extension?

I want to introduce optional manual entering inputs/outputs and few other improvement changes but my developer friend is currently busy with other projects.
6770  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Sparrow Bitcoin Wallet on: September 17, 2021, 12:13:39 PM
10 minutes later:  I just set it up, and it looks and feels very nice as a wallet!  I was able to create a wallet with legacy addresses, which you can't do with Electrum anymore, so that's a plus.  Haven't sent any coins to it yet, but I'll bump this thread if anything odd pops up as far as issues go.
I love their initial setup with explanations and easy process for users of choosing connection with bitcoin core node, private electrum node or public server.
Tor support is great and as for coinjoin transactiuons, I didn't test it yet but I plan to do it this weekend when I have more free time.
There are still some issues reported on github and I have no idea how to remove or hide hardware wallet connection after you make it, so I had to delete wallet file and create new one for testing.
6771  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [LIST] Bitcoin Seed Backup Tools on: September 17, 2021, 11:32:05 AM
Pretty cool concept. Obviously, if your entire seed is compromised, this will not do much good.
Not if you are using passphrase or multisig setup.
Your seed phrase can get compromised without you even knowing it if you don't have some tamper-evident solution like this.
Someone can find your seed phrase, copywrite your words and put your plate or paper in place like it was before, you would never notice it on time.

I have no idea - how feasible would it be for someone to remove the bottom of the plastic container (I don't mean unscrew the lid which would obviously mess up the beads, but rather cut/melt/whatever just the bottom of the container), access the contents, and then attach a fresh piece? What about to do so in a way that it wasn't immediately obvious that it had been done?
It would be impossible to do this without owner noticing that bottom was tampered with, so you would probably get a worse results then if you just open and remove the top lid.
One thing that could happen is that someone clones or 3print identical plastic box, but easy way to protect against this would be to make your box custom and unique only to you.

6772  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Sparrow Bitcoin Wallet on: September 17, 2021, 11:13:51 AM
Interesting new 1.5.0-beta1 beta update for Sparrow wallet introducing some big changes with coinjoin integration working only on testnet currently.
I was playing around with Sparrow for some time, and I have to say that like it more and more, interface is great and this could soon be better alternative for Wasabi wallet.

6773  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: September 17, 2021, 10:49:21 AM
Does anyone have an exchange that doesnt treat btc as Non Fungible?
I know that for decentralized exchange Bisq Bitcoin is fungible and you can use it without any kyc verification, or you can use P2P trading websites like Localcryptos.

There is a risk with using any centralized exchange, they can freeze your coins for any reason, but you can always do additional moving of your coins with other coinjoin wallets, or maybe even using Lightning Network.

6775  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Copper Membership on: September 17, 2021, 10:19:17 AM
We are kinda new here and want to buy a copper membership but does Bitcoin Talk only accept BTC and doesn't accept any other tokens / coins? Asking because the gas fee for BTC is pretty high.
Bitcoin transaction fees are not high now and they are usually lower during weekends, so you can easily send transaction now and you would pay only 1 sat/vB or $0.07, and I don't think that is high amount for anyone.
You can track Bitcoin mempool estimations 24/7 with my open source browser extension BTC Mempool Fees Extension/add-on for Firefox/Chrome browser.
6776  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Statue in Hungary on: September 16, 2021, 04:50:56 PM
I am watching it right now although I don't find any close captions for English, it's all Hungarian so I don't exactly know what they're saying besides the occasional mention of blockchain and it's kind of hard to get the context clues with that one, hopefully there's an English translation after this live broadcast.
They spoke in English language also, not only Hungarian, and I have to say that I like the look of this Satoshi statue.
Interesting thing they said is that statue is 175 cm tall because the year when Satoshi was born is 1975 (according to his forum profile).
6777  Economy / Economics / Re: How would Bitconia look like? on: September 16, 2021, 04:36:11 PM
I don't think the creation part is the main problem.  It's how you run the country once you have it.  How do you determine foreign policy and trade?  How do you interact with other nations?
I agree with you that countries are changing all the time and if you look at the map of Europe it changed a lot in few hundred years, some countries don't exist anymore and others are created.
How is Iran and other countries that are under some form of sanctions operate in the world? They use Bitcoin among other things for trading and earning profit from mining.

How do you fund public services and policing your borders?  Or do you have a country that simply doesn't have public services?  And how you stop the new government becoming corrupt?  That's the trickiest one.  Money and power create influence.  Influence is easy to abuse.
We tried all possible forms of governments and they all pretty much suck, including monarchy, democracy and dictatorship, so why can't we try some form of semi-anarchy.
If there is no government, there is nothing that can be corrupted, and roads will still be built even without standard form of government, that is known to be prone to be lazy and corrupt, but if people really need something they will make it.
Borders are important only as much as people are willing to defend them from enemies, you can have best army in the world and still be invaded and destroyed.

There would be so many ways an experiment like that could fail.  I just don't think it's viable.  Too many people would be looking to exploit the situation for personal gain.
I could argue that all previous government experiments failed, including one we are all living now.

Hello, thanks a lot. But I don't know how to add image. I still see only image tags there and that way only a link to the image is there.
Image posting is disabled for newbies, but you can pay a small fee for copper membership or be active in forum and reach next Jr Member rank, and after this images will be enabled in your posts.
Good luck with your sale.

6780  Other / Meta / Re: Monthly Report Statistics on: September 16, 2021, 02:36:53 PM
Not surprising that we had absolute record reports in summer of 2018 with nearly 50k good reports and only 395 unhandled... epic result.

Someone really needs to edit that hilariousandco post and convert it in readable tables with spaces, now it looks like a matrix movie opening scene, but maybe that was by design...
