6781  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best Bitcoin Wallet for Android Phone on: September 05, 2021, 10:37:03 AM
I have an android phone. I am looking to install a bitcoin wallet. What are my options and which bitcoin wallet is the best one.
Some people here suggested Electrum wallet for mobile phones, but I actually don't like their mobile version like one that is used for desktop.

It's important to choose Open Source wallet, use mobile hot wallet only for smaller amounts of Bitcoin, and remember to keep seed words offline and safe.

Mycelium wallet was fine but they started with adding lot of ads so I switched to BlueWallet now, and you can also check other most used android wallets with comparison on bitcoin.org website:

6782  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Strange error while using my Trezor wallet with the RBF feature on Suite on: September 04, 2021, 02:51:30 PM
Perhaps that was the case when they first released it but at the moment, you can generate multiple addresses without having to use the previous ones [screenshot].
Yeah it looks like they fixed it finally, I just generated few addresses for testing, and I can confirm it's working just fine now.

For your RBF issue you can send them feedback directly from wallet or you can create issue on their github page.
6783  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My ledger got hacked on: September 04, 2021, 02:18:32 PM
Nobody knows my credentials (as far as I know). It was just me and noone else around.
Google knows your credentials, and what's the point of hardware wallet if you are going to keep seed words online...
Your ledger was probably not hacked, but you made some mistake, and it's possible that you had some clipboard malware on your computer.

Is there any possibility that anyone could guess the 24 words correctly randomly?

6784  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador rolls out 200 Bitcoin ATMs in a bid to speed-up nationwide adoption on: September 04, 2021, 01:37:39 PM
Didn't people protest against trains and cars in the past? Or more recently against cell phone towers? It's normal Smiley
Maybe it's normal for humans to oppose anything that is new at beginning, and yet again it doesn't mean that everything that is new is always better than old.
Bitcoin is much better than any fiat currency system for sure, and I think that president said that Bitcoin in El Salavdor will be optional not mandatory, so this means  that only smart people will use it.
Latest research is showing that 70% of people in El Salvador are against new Bitcoin bill, meanwhile protests are not allowed and people are getting arrested for doing that.
History showed us many times that majority herd is usually never right Wink

As we are talking about Bitcoin ATMs one interesting news is that Lamassu released code for their machines as Open Source!

6785  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: ODROID-XU4 Anybody gotten a wallet to run on it? on: September 04, 2021, 12:49:31 PM
I have seen some people running Bitcoin and Lightning node in similar way like you would do on RaspberryPi but on different ODROID devices.
Not sure if this is possible on ODROID-XU4, but I think that even Bitnodes used Odroid based devices in past:

6786  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Strange error while using my Trezor wallet with the RBF feature on Suite on: September 04, 2021, 12:00:03 PM
Fees for Bitcoin have been low in recent months so I didn't have problem with sending transactions, even now it's only 1 sat/vB.
I am using Electrum in combination with Trezor so I didn't have a chance to test it myself in Trezor Suite, but you can follow instructions from their wiki page, just make sure you have latest software and firmware version:
https://wiki.trezor.io/Replace-by-fee_(RBF)

There is one RBF sending bug reported yesterday on their github page, I don't know if this is you:
https://github.com/trezor/trezor-suite/issues/4223

One more thing I don't like with Trezor Suite is that I am not able to generate new address if previous one was not used :/ so I just use Electrum.
6787  Economy / Exchanges / Re: NO KYC Exchanges kycnot on: September 04, 2021, 11:24:41 AM
I'd like to see a little bit more elaboration on some of their ratings. For example, with Hodl Hodl they state that "This exchange may request a KYC verification if it finds your movements suspicious." I was completely unaware of that, but can't find any more information about it on a web search. What I did find, however, is that apparently Bitfinex recently purchased a stake in Hodl Hodl, which is pretty concerning if you ask me.
I never used it so I can't say more about it, but no surprise there if Bitfinex exchange is new partial owner of HoldHold, we know they are doing random KYC checks for similar reasons on their exchange.
Only thing I don't understand is how can they prevent you from withdrawing your money if they don't hold any coins or fiat, that is even stated on their website, so maybe it is mistake made by kycnot developer.
There was some news about HodlHodl forced liquidations last month when they said they are doing some security upgrades.

No KYC/AML – because, again, we don't hold users' funds.

Here is HoldHodl latest security report, showing they had some vulnerabilities before:

I want to get more inspiration and thinking from your gays
I hope you got inspired, but with all due respect we are not all gays here...

My God... Shocked Mr.Kun you are obviously trying to get in the Guinness Book of Records with one of the longest written posts in bitcointalk history.
I have to give you credits for this, you probably spent days and hours writing all this stuff.

RainbowKun isn't a scammer, so he shouldn't be tagged.
I have a funny suspicion that LoyceV might be one of Mr.Kun's alts or he likes his long posts very much, because he is always protecting him.  Smiley
Seriously now, I don't think he should be red tagged for his doing, but not only scammers are being tagged here.
6789  Other / Meta / Re: Copy/paste only with source on: September 04, 2021, 10:02:11 AM
There are a few users who used to copy/paste from different sources and share the article/news on the forum and share a source link below of the article. Basically, the users don't add anything of their own which really seems awkward. If you are not putting your opinion, why would you only copy/paste this?
You should post some examples or members you noticed doing this, but I see this thing more and more especially in Bitcoin discussion section.
I doubt moderators will do anything about it because it's not strictly against the rules, and I don't think it can be fixed.
What I would do is move all this posts in Press section, if they don't have anything to comment or if they copy-paste everything from original source.
Temporary solution for me is Ignoring members who repeat doing this, and my Ignore list is growing every day Sad
6790  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [General] Bitcoin Wallets - Which, what, why? on: September 04, 2021, 09:41:19 AM
Anyone know the most popular hardware wallets of the new generation? I have been searching for a hardware wallet that is both new and reliable. I came across and was thinking of ordering Opolo Cosmos, but it's still not available. Is there anything similar that is verified?
There is no hardware wallet that can be new, verified and good, especially not Opolo wallet that is still in presale, it's like you are purchasing experimental cat in a bag.
If you are interested in hardware wallet check out few topics like LIST of Open Source Hardware Wallets and Hardware Wallets with Secure Elements to get better picture of your options.
Going exotic and checking Big List of Hardware Wallets is also an option, but I don't recommend experimenting so much with more than a crypto pocket money.
Best hardware wallet should ideally be Open Source, with secure element, airgapped and tested by security professionals.
6791  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Agora: Sell files on the web for Lightning Network payments on: September 03, 2021, 11:58:27 AM
Did you try it yet?
I downloaded and tested it but I never used it for receiving or sending any funds because I didn't like it and I think there are no options for running your own node.

Because I did. Put like 100 bucks on it, and everything above ~2€ needed an on-chain transaction. Muun folks told me part of funds isn't in the LN part of the wallet to facilitate larger transactions (so no swap is needed).
I don't understand how this is possible when there are two different type of addresses, one for Lightning and other for Bitcoin (segwit and legacy)
6792  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Agora: Sell files on the web for Lightning Network payments on: September 03, 2021, 11:29:04 AM
Muun is not a Lightning wallet. Any more significant amount of funds is stored on-chain, there is no way to manage channels on your own if there's an issue and transaction fees are much higher on even small transactions than on real non-custodial LN wallets.
Wrong.
Muun is open source self-custodial wallet for bitcoin and lightning network, but I agree there are other wallets that are better for LN.
Here is one good list of most known LN wallets, and running your own node with non-custodial wallet would be the best option:

6793  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: ColdCard hardware wallet on: September 03, 2021, 11:06:35 AM
but even I put that warning on links I post when dealing with things that have to do with wallets and such here on the forum.
It was reference link for quoted text, because forum anti-plagiarism machine is working non-stop.

As for the forking of the code and changing the license, I am beginning to kind of, sort of, a very very little bit more take their side.
Dude, they literally used Trezor code themselves, so I guess it's just open source karma Tongue
Forking will cause no issue on Coldcard code, same way like changes in Coldcard does not affect original Trezor code.
6794  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What the heck is Blockstream doing now? on: September 03, 2021, 10:52:35 AM
I guess in the end it's going to completely depend on context. Artist just straight off selling his/her art NFTs? Not a scam. An artist selling his/her NFTs while directly/indirectly claiming that it will go up in price? A scam.
NFT's are tokens by definition, non-fungible-tokens, and most of them are scam with few exceptions maybe.

One more free USDT Tether promotion by Adam Back, and Liquid is advertising as better version of ethereum with cheaper fees for sending USDT...

6795  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase Sponsors New MrBeast YouTube Video! on: September 03, 2021, 10:21:01 AM
Looks like they heard you loud and clear.  Today Coinbase teamed up with MrBeast to give away $100,000 in Bitcoin.  You can read the details in the thread I made specifically about it, as a $100,000 giveaway deserves it's own discussion.  Kudos to MrBeast and to Coinbase for doing something cool!
This is only available for citizens of United States and United Kingdom so good luck Tongue
It's time for someone to create event like this globally for all countries and people, that is the whole point of Bitcoin, no borders and limits.
No discrimination Coinbase and MrBeast please.
6796  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: ColdCard hardware wallet on: September 03, 2021, 10:09:04 AM
For Dave and others who are using Coldcard hardware wallet, it's time to upgrade your firmware to latest version 4.1.3.
They fixed some bugs and increased Bitcoin Core Airgap support, but I am still disappointed they decided to switch their license from Open Source to MIT+CC.
Funny thing is they first forked original Trezor wallet code that is still Open Source, but then they switched their license when someone else (read Passport) forks their code.
Now you can only read their code, but you can't contribute anything and you can't really verify and reproduce the code.
Instead they use something like this:
https://gist.github.com/xavierfiechter/0b7323318ada8937f817606dff8fdb57

Full list of changes:
Quote
Version 4.1.3 - Sept 2, 2021

- Enhancement: support "importdescriptors" command in Bitcoin Core 0.21 so that a descriptor-based wallet is created. PSBT files are then supported natively by Core, and the resulting desktop wallet can be used for spending (ie. create PSBT via GUI) and also watching. Translation: Easy air-gap PSBT operation with Bitcoin Core!
- Enhancement: remove "m/0/0" derivations from public.txt and address explorer, since that path is obsolete and not used by any major wallets now. We can still sign PSBT files with that path, but it's an unnecessary risk to show derived addresses for a type of wallet that doesn't exist anymore.
- Enhancement: if PSBT input sections don't contain the key path information we need, show a more specific error message.
- Bugfix: a PSBT which provided the wrong pubkey (based on UTXO being spent) was not flagged as invalid, but instead we proceeded to do nothing. Now says "pubkey vs. address wrong".
- Bugfix: if asked to serialize a partially-signed transaction, we did. Now fails properly.
- Bugfix: if multiple copies of the same BIP-39 passphrase were saved to a card, the menu would not display correctly and you might not be able to select your saved value.

6797  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Attack vectors for Hardware Wallets on: September 03, 2021, 09:57:43 AM
They are only a character or 2 shorter
Correct, and I think that other smaller coins that have more characters would be a bigger problem, and it would be easier to generate fake addresses.

But yes, hardware wallets give people a bit of a false sense of security. But they are still better then nothing.
Sure they are much better than regular hot wallets, but you still need to confirm addresses properly, and not everyone is ''perfect'' like Pmalek  Cheesy

The point is not that they like ETH, but that it is easier to generate an address base for it, since it uses hexadecimal encoding. Such addresses need to be generated 168 (4 characters at the beginning and 4 at the end). Bitcoin uses Base58 encoding, so you need to create significantly more addresses 588
You noticed I put a smiley at the end of that sentence, and then in next one I said that running something like this for Bitcoin would be more expensive.
However, this is another good reason not to use any altcoins on hardware wallets.

Is it just the shear volume of available replacement addresses that is news?
It's not anything new, it's just an improved version of clipboard attack with using of similar addresses.
Classic clipboard attack just replaces original address with any randomly generated address.

E, gde si snimio Edu "dilera"? Nevidim nista novo u Trgovini.

Ja sam odbio ponudu ali pitali su me znam li nekog drugog.
6799  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Attack vectors for Hardware Wallets on: September 02, 2021, 06:35:18 PM
I guess it was expected that sooner or later the time will come that we can no longer consider hardware wallets to be safe to use on compromised and malware-infected computers.
I never consider that to be safe because clipboard attacks existed before, but this is some next level stuff and small script like this probably wouldn't even be detected by any antivirus software.

I only read some of its parts, but just to be sure, this could affect [in theory] other cryptocurrency addresses [apart from Ethereum] as well, am I right?
Yes all other coins including Bitcon are affected, but they obviously like ethereum so much they named this malware ethClipper.  Wink
However, I think that cost for running Bitcoin related ClipperCloud distributed service for generating addresses would be much higher than for Ethereum.

Part of the question is how many characters (other then all) makes it safe. 6 at the beginning and 6 at the end. 7 & 7?
Example they gave is for first and last 4 characters in address and I think that Bitcoin addresses are shorter than for Ethereum.
My thinking is that a lot of people would fall for this scam even with minimum changes possible, and hardware wallet is just giving them false sense of security.

6800  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Can't withdraw money from LocalCryptos on: September 02, 2021, 06:16:48 PM
Did someone hack LocalCryptos or what?
Nobody hacked them, but I heard that some government agencies infiltrated that website and created one or more accounts so I suspect they are under some investigation including all people who trade there.
They created account called Mr.Coins and it turned out it was controlled by IRS for catching small fish who avoid paying taxes or who knows what... it's really pathetic, but LC don't have kyc so something like this is expected.
They even built 100% positive feedback and traded around $200,000 with 50 trades, so I would be extra careful trading from United States and suspect in everyone now.
Maybe your incident is related with this event, so I would follow instructions that OmegaStarScream gave you in previous post and withdraw coins with other wallet.
