Saw the title and thought 'Shit, atlas is back!'
Oh lol. I did the exact same.
682  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Import private key without special software? on: April 25, 2012, 10:36:26 PM
Is there any website that can import a private key and send all of those Bitcoins to a new public address? I know that some special clients can do this, but I don't want to download them.
I think blockchain.info can sweep funds

Thanks, it appears to have worked.

I think a single functionality website that does this might be a good idea. Just have one field to import a private key, and another address field to pass all of the bitcoins to.
A site like this could steal all of your funds.

I guess Blockchain.info must only sweep when you login since the keys are all encrypted.

Obviously any site handling bitcoins could steal. Instawallet, Blockchain, Mt Gox are no different. But people trust them because they have been around. The site I proposed would be even better because that nobody would be holding money on that site, so at most they can only steal whatever funds go through in the time it takes people to realize they are stealing.
The point of blockchain is that they CAN'T steal your funds.  The keys are all encrypted on their servers and only the customer knows how to decrypt them.

Although now that I read this... https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=78081.0

Yeah... this does sound like a little scary

Sounds like he did have the e-mail in at least this case though.

686  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you use Skype, read this thread. on: April 25, 2012, 09:25:27 PM
I still prefer IRC for text and TeamSpeak for voice, but I use Skype as well. I don't usually care about video chat, but it can be useful.
687  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mining rig extraordinaire - the Trenton BPX6806 18-slot PCIe backplane [PICS] on: April 25, 2012, 09:21:38 PM
Can they handle more than 5-6 GPU's? I heard that a Windows Cat/Forceware Driver cant handle more than 5 ore 6 GPU's, not sure.
I wonder if I should consolidate all the information into a new topic, since no one ever reads the posts in this one.
It is kinda sad.  I mean you are talking about virtualizing on this very page.  It's not like they had to even read the whole topic...

Also line 32 of index.php should probably be changed to:

$result = $dbh->query("SELECT * FROM hosts ORDER BY name ASC");

I may setup a git and issue pull requests, but it's not worth it for the small changes I've needed to make so far.

You can actually edit a file and make simple pull requests right on github.com.  No need to manually fork and all that.
689  Other / Off-topic / Re: TOR users be aware, Flash and Javascript reveals IP address. on: April 25, 2012, 08:25:50 PM
Hello,

just setup a vm or real hardware working as a proxy to route all the traffic from eth0(internal network) to eth1(external network).
eth1 routes then all traffic through tor.
Now setup a 2nd vm which has only one port directly connected to eth0 on the proxy.
ALL traffic is now routed through tor and immune to those attacks.

I think there is a tutorial on the torwiki too.

kind regards,
a nice guy

no kidding, Sherlock?

I mean, thank you for rising awareness but it's really well known or at least documented and the bundled browser has the settings right by default.

Any link on this forum that I missed?
Well there are warnings on the actual tor download page.

Also, http://panopticlick.eff.org/ is a much more informative page than your link.
693  Other / Off-topic / Re: TOR users be aware, Flash and Javascript reveals IP address. on: April 25, 2012, 05:23:07 PM
Good information, but not new news at all.  This is why the Tor Browser Bundle and Tails have javascript and flash disabled by default.
694  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Best Mining OS on: April 25, 2012, 05:19:31 PM
Does BAMT works with the Single from Butterfly Labs?

It depends on which version of cgminer it comes with.  If its 2.3.1 or later than it should.  I think gigavps is doing it that way.  Smiley
I'm running an up to date 0.5 and its 2.3.1f

Code:
root@bamt-miner:~# /opt/miners/cgminer/cgminer -V
cgminer 2.3.1f
695  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: US citizens, do you pay taxes on bitcoin exchange? on: April 25, 2012, 01:09:39 AM
btc is supposed to be independent of other currencies, so you shouldn't be taxed at all.
That isn't true.  If you got paid in chickens, you would pay taxes based on the USD value of the chickens. It doesn't matter that you aren't paid in USD.

697  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Best Mining OS on: April 24, 2012, 10:15:48 PM
Another +1 for BAMT.

Been using it for months and it is so much easier to maintain than the custom scripts I was using in ubuntu and LinuxCoin before.

699  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What level of tyranny will you live under ? on: April 24, 2012, 09:57:39 PM
Tyranny is such a strong word. The more people you cram into a state (ahem, CA) the more "tyranny" youre going to need. Less elbow room, less resources, less privacy for everyone simply because theres so many people trying to get along with each other, so more regulation of what you can and can't do. By contrast lets head over to North Dakota where there is miles and miles of nothing and no one. Who is gonna care if you do 90 mph down an empty highway, or light some firecrackers, or build a 25 ft tall wind turbine? Who is around to even notice? I guess my point is: population density leads to "tyranny", and it might actually be necessary to force everyone to get along.
So a 7? Wink
